I live in the teeny, tiny town of Taylor, NY, (Alliteration Alert!) though my mailing address is Cincinnatus, my telephone exchange is Truxton and I pay taxes and vote in Cuyler. All of these are at least in the same rural county in the southern hills of New York State; Cortland County. There are more cattle than people here. The nearest “big” cities are Syracuse and Binghamton and they are an hour away, in different directions, and not really all that big by most standards, though they both seem humongous to me. I look out my window to see rolling, green, thickly forested hills, wildflower laden meadows and wide open blue, blue skies. My road is barely paved. The nearest neighboring place is a 700 acre dairy farm.

My house is a big, century old farmhouse. I moved in here after my divorce in 2006. Just a little over a year later, the house, which I had named, SERENITY, burned. It was 99% gutted, and I lost my two dogs, Sally, an 11-year-old great Dane, and Wrinkles, my 14-year-old, blind bulldog. This was the culmination of my Dark Night of the soul, which had seemed to hit me all at once in 2006-2007. My mother died that year, after a 14 month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was only 60. The youngest of my five daughters had left home that same year, and while that’s not a tragedy at all, it felt like one to me. Then came the divorce. And finally there was the fire--it seemed my darkest night wasn’t quite finished with me after all. I had lost almost everything before that point, and as I poked through the wet ashes and soot the next day, I realized that I had now been stripped all the way to the bone.

No better time to start over. (And no, I didn’t come to that realization that day--there were a few days of wallowing in pity first, particularly the day after the fire, when I hit a deer and smashed up my car, which I was practically living in!)

That’s when I started to laugh. Just sat on the side of the road as the deer bounded, uninjured and carefree, out of sight, and laughed. It was just too ridiculous at that point, to do anything else!

And from there, I picked myself up, and brushed myself off, and said, okay, there’s only one way to go from here. Forward. And that’s what I did. There I was at the age of harrurmphemmph, living in my one, mostly undamaged remaining room, with a dorm-sized mini-fridge, a futon, a TV, my cat (nine lives!) and a laptop. And not much else. (Though thank goodness the room that survived the fire, was a room that had its own attached bathroom!)

Since then I have rebuilt my beloved home, which really has become my haven, my “Serenity.” I share it now with my fiancé, Lance, and we have accumulated quite the little family together. “Little” being a relative term. We have a pair of English Mastiffs, Dozer and Daisy, who weigh 203 pounds and 208 pounds respectively, and a little pudgy English Bulldog named Niblet, who is bigger than both of them, inside her mind. We also have the aforementioned cat, Glorificus (“Glory” for short,) who adores her canine pups and keeps them firmly in line. And we've acquired a pair of stray cats as well, a mother and son, Luna (Lulu for short) and Butters aka Buddy. Lulu showed up pregnant during a lunar eclipse, had a litter, and vanished again. We found homes for all the kittens except one. Butters. We got him fixed and kept him. A few months later, Lulu returned, again expecting. This litter was born on the "Monster Moon." Again, all the kittens were spayed and neutered and placed in homes, and this time we got Lulu to the vet in time to spay her before the cycle could repeat.

Glory is not amused.

She has a story of her own, my old Glory cat, having been with me before the Dark Times descended, she went through it all with me, moved with me, survived the fire, and remains with me still. She's tolerating the newcomers. Barely.

My partner is an artist, a mechanic, a welder and an inventor, and the rumors are true, he is much younger than I

Classic Maggie Shayne! You feel what the characters feel, and the anxiousness that makes your heart stutter while you're in the middle of all the action. Having read the entire series already, I already knew that Morgan met with Dante, that Morgan was Maxine's twin sister (Blue Twilight ~ Maxie & Lou). I got all of that. I understood how Stormy ended up getting shot (Both Blue Twilight and Prince of Twilight ~ Vlad & Stormy). Now I understood things that had been discussed but I didn't know where from.

Maggie added her humour, the action and intimate moments perfectly blended. Confused emotions ruled the book, like Maggie always makes her characters feel, and reading and watching them grow together is awesome in any book Maggie writes. I highly recommend this series to anyone looking for a fun, awesome read.

This is the only book I have read in the series, though I don't think I was hindered by that. Morgan DeSilva moves into an old home, needing a place to concentrate to start writing her next book, and discovers a treasure trove of old diaries about a vampire named Dante. They sounded so real but of course they couldn't be. Meanwhile, Dante is very much real discovers that his life, his secrets, are out there for the world to see, when the books are made into movies. He is attracted to her immediately and recognizes that her blood calls to him. She has a particular antigen in her blood that means she can easily be brought over otherwise she will die. Meanwhile a cop and a young PI are investigating a death where the victim was drained of blood. It all leads to Morgan's door, along with a vampire hunter who is determined to see Dante pay for his sins. It was an entertaining read but I am not rushing to get the series.

“Twilight Hunger” is not the first book that I read by Maggie Shayne but like the first one it happens the same thing: although I enjoyed the book I had the feeling that something was missing.

The book has very good characters and the story is pretty nice. It’s about Morgan DeSilva, a screenwriter who finds some very old diaries in the attic of an old house. In these diaries she reads the story of Dante and she’s starting to have an obsession with him. But what she doesn’t know is that Dante is a very real man….

I liked the atmosphere in the book and the secondary characters were really well written, but I wasn’t very into it. I want to read the next books of this series because I believe that the author is talented and this series seems to have some potential. The mystery and the romance is in a very good level, so I’ll keep reading!

This was an interesting spin on the vampire genre. Although predictable the plot was quite interesting with alot of twists and turns. There were however too many stories within the main story which all got wrapped up towards the end. The minor story lines could have been resolved earlier. I loved Dante as the hero, I pictured him as similar to Bill in True Blood. I however couldn't picture the heroine as she is described as beautiful but sickly, and for me it's difficult to see a skeletal corpse like person as beautiful. Overall an interesting book I would read more from the author as she keeps you engaged.

Maxine lebt im Bundestaat New York.

Will man da viel unterbringen, muss man sich schon ranhalten.

sipakah dante?? kenapa jurnal2nya tersimpan dirumah yg barusan dibeli david??

anehnya setiap kali dia bersembunyi para pemburu seperti tau dimana dia berada.
sekarang pilihan tempat dante bersembunyi hanyalah tinggal rumah tua yg dulu dia bangun...tapi rumah itu, rumah yg dia bangun sendiri & yg hampir roboh terakhir kali dia lihat ternyata sekarang sudah dibangun kembali & ada penghuninya. seorang wanita cantik yg membuat dante terpikat & tak bisa melepaskan diri.
wanita yg membaca jurnal2nya, membuka rahasianya ke muka public tapi tetap saja dante tak sanggup melepaskannya.

ehm ehm, overall nih novel no bad-lah & cukup menyentuh.
chemistry morgan & dante kerasa banget.
"adegan"nya ehm terasa "nyata" & cukup membuat nyengir :p

halaman2 awal terus terang aja rada "lebai" & terus lebai tiap dante manggil serafina dengan sebutan "fina"...duh langsung merinding bacanya, uanehhhhhhhh pollllll.

lalu siapa sebenarnya ayah kandung max & morgan??

kalo dari segi cerita sebenarnya mo ku ku kasih 3,5 tapi berhubung ceritanya lancar & aq bacanya ga berkunang2 (sesorean duduk manis ga ngapa2in cuman bacaaaaaaa doank) jadi kurasa nih buku layaklah dapat bintang 4.

cuman violet kenapa nerbitin jauh amat?? kenapa ga diambil dari buku 1 ya??? kira2 bakal ada lanjutannya ga ya????

Okay this one was a pretty good one. I liked it. There were some things that came off a bit corny to me, cheesy if you will. But for the most part, it was okay. It did seem like there was a bit too much of the stopping and starting, and the lengths which things were drawn out to keep dante from morgan were a bit too over the top and tedious @ best. That is my 1st gripe with this one. My 2nd is how could you draw out such passion between these two which was quite seriously life and death situations and when you finally bring them together, it was luke warm if that.

***SPOILER ALERT***I mean the description of when Dante took his 1st lover as a vampire and ultimately killed her, that was graphic in it's description of not only what was happening physically, but what the emotions of that moment was for Dante himself, as well as the after math.*** You did not get this with the 2 moments he and morgan were together. Plus it took a little too long for them to interact with one another without her assuming she was just "dreaming" it was happening. And I'm speaking of when they were actually talking to each other, not being physically intimate.

But the other characters.. Morgan's sister, her guardian & best friend David, her mom, Dante's aunt, his family everyone was very well written in my opinion and it helped to keep me turning the pages without stopping when I became to frustrated with the "lacking" between Dante and Morgan.

Maybe this was just a symptom of the "first book" in a series, but it was a whole lot better than alot of 1st books I've read in certain series. So I will be reading the second when it comes out next month. I would recommend this read.

I've read the translated book
no spoiler, it's safe to read
(ps : saya a.k.a pembaca)
oke, jadi buku twilight hunger ini kurang. benar-benar kurang. mari kita data sama-sama plus minusnya.
bagian plus (+) ;

Bagian minus (-) ;

tokoh;

Rational please.

Maxie, saudara kembar Morgan juga punya nilai minus yang ga banget. dia terlalu ga percaya sama seseorang hanya karena orang itu bukan manusia, padahal manusia pemburu vampir yang dia percaya justru musuh dibalik selimut. please deh, monster itu ga selalu jahat. Ga pernah dengar peribahasa 'serigala berbulu domba??'

regards,

Vei

Ms. Shayne has some skills in the paranormal romance genre that I won't deny. It was not perfection for me but the 'icks' were few, far between, and minor. The heroine, Morgan, got on my nerves but all the other characters lived up to my expectations. There were some vamp traits that I did not like such as Dante climbing a tree to get to Morgan's 2nd floor bedroom. Most vamps could jump it or fly or something. Dante could not turn into mist or anything. He was basically an immortal with too many weaknesses. None-the-less, the story was solid and well paced. I will read the next one in the series as it sounds interesting.

This was the first Nocturne book I read and I loved it. The storyline was interesting and she made the main characters believable and very likable. The book gathers a wonderful pace with a heartwarming ending. I would have given it five stars if the ending didn't have so much squeezed into it. There were many sub plots but she tied them all neatly together. I tend to write reviews a while after I've read a book for me if I can still remember the characters and story then it's a keeper. Will definately read more of her books if I can find any!

There really isn't much to say about the story, because it's not the most original. Girl is dying, girl meets vampire...you can see where this is going. Despite it's predictability, the characters are dynamic enough to carry the story.

Starts off very slow but, if you're a fan of the genre, you'll probably be happy that you stuck with it.

I didn't know that this was the 7th book in the series I had just found it and thought it sounded interesting (plus the cover looked cool, not to be shallow). It was a book that was hard to put down. It read well and was a fast easy enjoyable read. I would love to read the rest of the books in the series.

Wings of the Night #7. Predicable but still good. A little unsatisfying on the romance part but the intrigue was good. The ending made me want to read more of the series to find out the story on many of the side characters. Overall it was a nice mix of paranormal action and romance, with a little sex thrown in for good measure.

To have a love for vampires, you must understand them. And to understand vampires, you must have a good knowledge of them. For those foregoing reasons, Maggie Shayne show a deep understanding and love for vampires, in which she is able to transcribe those feelings into words. She has expressed herself quite clearly in her novel, “Twilight Hunger.”

Two sisters, separated at adoption; one lives a wealthy California lifestyle, while the other is a street rogue in a suburban small town. As their fate and destiny develop over vampires, they finally get a chance to meet under strange circumstances. Will Maxine, and her cohorts, be able to help Morgan? Will Morgan’s love for Dante, a vampire, come to fruition?

Maxine and Morgan, the two primary characters in Shayne’s novel, are very well executed. While reading “Twilight Hunger,” you can see their separate and distinct stories and worlds emerge and evolve. They are perfectly developed; their stories flow with passion. It is almost as if these two characters were acting out their roles in front of you.

Dante, Sarafina, Lydia, Lou and the other secondary characters compliment their counterparts, as well as their primary characters that they’ve been assigned to. Their development moves along with the plot; a very well act if I could say so. Dante and Sarafina, the two primary vampires in this novel, have a history with each other, something that doesn’t happen quite often.

The scenes portrayed in “Twilight Hunger” were a bit sketchy, leaving a lot to the imagination to be filled in. I felt that they were too subtle, not enough descriptive effort to relay the nature of the scene.

When I started to read “Twilight Hunger,” the first thing that popped into my head was Anne Rice’s “Interview with a Vampire,” especially when Morgan was reading Dante’s diaries. As the story progresses, and the dialogue gets steamy, I am now envisioning the CW’s “The Vampire Diaries,” “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer,” and “Angel” all rolled up into one nice, neat ball.

The problem that I had with that been when a reader starts to envision outside sources in a story, the reader will start to think about whether or not the author has given a good, deep thought and understanding to developing a plot on her/his own or were they influenced by favorite television shows and outside sources. I believe that the latter situation occurred, because if nothing else, I wouldn’t have referenced those shows and movie.

All in all, “Twilight Hunger” is an excellent book; a quick read. Maggie Shayne did a wonderful job with this novel; however, turn off the television next time you’re search for an idea for your next novel.

“Twilight Hunger” is highly recommended.

I very much enjoyed this novel. Vampire romance is one of my favorite subgenres of romance, and this was very good. The plot was interesting, exciting and well thought out. I liked the morally gray characters. Once I started reading, I just couldn't put it down, I read from late afternoon until midnight because there was no way I would be able to sleep without finishing it.

However, I couldn't give it five stars, and in reality it earned three and a half and I rounded it up to four instead of down to three. First of all, the couple, Morgan and Dante didn't have enough interaction to really make the romance completely satisfying. Their story needed at least a hundred more pages to make their intense love fully come to life. I liked the subplot involving Maxine too much to eliminate it, and the way it came together with the main plot was great, which is why I think this novel ought to have been longer.

The ending was full of action which got very convoluted and annoying, which caused me to start skimming. I think the storytelling toward the end should have been given more thought and care.

The rules of her vampire world bothered me- vampires that chronically undereat to make them 'nicer people' are one of my pet peeves in romances. Keeping blood slaves to feed on instead of actually killing their food lessened the aspect of danger between Dante and Morgan which weakened their love story.

The inability of her vampires to clot after being wounded and that they feel pain more intensely, in my opinion, makes them too weak to truly be formidable. Vampires that are hemophilic and don't heal at all until they enter day sleep doesn't make them frightening. All you have to do is wound one and it runs in pain fearing for its life? I'm surprised any vampires managed to survive at all.

The Belladonna antigen in human blood was an interesting idea, but the way it was used in the story was contradictory and nonsensical. First, it makes them the only humans that can be turned and then Serafina doesn't want to turn Morgan because the ones with the antigen are more likely to go insane and destroy themselves if turned? That makes no sense. Vampires are so fragile one would think they'd be tracking down every carrier of the Belladonna antigen to propagate themselves.

Powerful, dangerous vampires that actually hunt are more fun and exciting.

Yet, despite these issues, the novel itself was so well written and the story so engrossing, it's possible to overlook them. The story was really more about Morgan attaining happiness of which Dante was a part of than Morgan and Dante's love story, but still a decent read.

I have not read any other books in this series but I can say that this book just had a LOT going on....I was surprised and frankly disappointed that Dante (vampires in general) was portrayed as bit of a villain. I struggled finding any romance in this book. Any possible relationships in this story we’re constantly disrupted and ended up being stunted. I didn’t get any real “romance” vibes from Morgan & Dante....she was basically an invalid under mind control? during the entire story and once he figured out that he was cool with her he went through trials to get her. I wish she would have had at least SOME fire in her. Mad Max was a decent character but her and the cop never seemed to get anywhere either.
Side note: couldn’t someone just have shot the scarred face man? I mean he easily “got away” like a dozen times. :eye roll:
Idk, the whole book has sort of a Resident Evil meets a Paranormal Investigator documentary.

Overall: just sort of Meh.

This felt like a kitchen sink kind of book. A lot happening, but was it all necessary? Nah.
I found this book difficult to get through and stay interested in. The way it was written felt like it was quickly thrown together.

Sure, starting one's sentence with "God" conveys certain feelings, but not every character is going to speak that way. There was a point in the book where I had to double check who was speaking because multiple characters were starting their sentences with "God." The word was used so much in the book that I wondered how the editor didn't catch or care about it.

And the timing of when characters showed up during certain events was almost cartoonish. How tf did that person appear just in nick of time? No idea, but good thing they did because they saved the day!

Reminds me a little of Nora Roberts' Circle Trilogy. A fun vampire romance, but some may find it a tad... steamy. Morgan, a writer struggling with writer's block finds a series of dairies in an old house's attic and thinks that it is a book written by a madman named Dante who believes he is a vampire. Then as the dairies are read it is realized that Dante is a real man. It is a fun book to read and if sex things are not your cup of tea, you can skip those (There are about three).

Of course, I am a gentleman and will never tell if I read the sex scenes or not.

Read this if you love romance that bites gently.

Love This Series!

Another great book in one of my very favorite series. This book gives more info on the bad guys, but also about some of the vampires. It was REALLY well done, a little different tone than some of the others, but just as enjoyable.

If you’re looking for great paranormal love stories, that are really unique, then this series is perfect for you. Lots of love, more than a bit of danger, with interesting storylines, and fantastic characters, makes for really incredible books. I highly recommend this book and this series. It’s AMAZING!

I am a sucker for a good vampire book. Pun intended. This one was fine. The “love story” seemed undeveloped. The “long lost family” storyline was a little too tidy - everything wrapped up in a tight bow. And my use of “quotations” — definitely overdone. Sorry.

Loved how Morgan when reading the journals of Dante actually began to connect and actually was able to begin a relationship with Dante even though Dantes's journals were old and considered a madman. Morgan fell in love with Dante even though she thought she was crazy in the beginning.
