Tsugumi Ōba (Profile in Japanese: 大場 つぐみ), born in Tokyo, Japan, is a writer best known for the manga Death Note. His/her real identity is a closely guarded secret. As stated by the profile placed at the beginning of each Death Note manga, Ōba collects teacups and develops manga plots while holding his knees on a chair, similar to a habit of L, one of the main characters of the series.

There is speculation that Tsugumi Ōba is a pen name and that he is really Hiroshi Gamō. Pointing out that in Bakuman the main character's uncle was a one-hit wonder manga artist who worked on a gag super hero manga, very similar to Gamō and Tottemo! Luckyman in all aspects. Also that the storyboards drawn by Ōba greatly resemble Tottemo! Luckyman in style.

This took an absolute AGE to finish. I swear I was reading this for 2 and a half weeks. That's absurd for a manga.

The dialogue is cramped and overflowing on each page. There's way less art than words. And for a manga, that seems counter productive.

There were moments at the beginning and end that had me flipping the pages urgently. But the 85% of the middle was so damn boring and a slog to get through. It's making me question whether or not to continue to be honest.

Woah...my head is spinning right now! I think this is definitely the most convoluted volume I've read so far. There were a few instances where I had to go back and check on a few things but maybe it's just far too intelligent for my pea-brain!

Anyway, the stakes are higher than ever in this third volume and this time focuses on L, Light and Misa working together in order to apprehend Kira.

And yes...I'm pretty confused about Light not knowing that he was Kira...or maybe he does know and he's just acting...ahhhh, my head hurts.

Death Note Vol. 3 is a compelling and high-octane read, and is a fabulous addition to the series. I've given it 4 stars though as I was a bit confused at times and think I might need a lie down now...

It’s unbelievable how different of a man Light Yagami is without a death note. So nice, chivalrous and law-abiding, 110% best boy material. 😩 Yet another example of all the ways power can corrupt a person.

This is the beginning of what I call the ‘cycle of doom’, where things start to get repetitive.

But… that doesn’t really matter to me. I still love this series, and I will continue to re-read it again… and again… and again.

SERIE DEATH NOTE vol 3

Lettura di gruppo E&L

Un po’ noiosa la prima parte, ma poi si riprende alla grande. Le carte si mescolano, cosa succederà adesso? A me il prossimo!

I'd forgotten about the Yotsuba arc of the anime and I remember why, it's definitely not my favourite arc within the storyline. Far too much time is spent on people in meeting rooms and not enough time on the main characters. However as usual it's wonderfully written and beautifully convoluted. The artwork is perfect and I still thoroughly enjoyed this book overall.

Overall, still enjoying this series. I found the parts involving the meetings of the Yotsuba group to be a little tedious, however, and they slowed down the plot.

The beginning of this volume contains an event that pretty much completely changes the story, I can see why they'd want to do something like this after two volumes of the same set-up, but it was extremely disorienting. It felt like everything that had happened previously suddenly had no influence, and it was like the manga had somehow rebooted itself before it was even done. I had negative feelings about all this initially, but I soon began to really enjoy it. The event in question doesn't really change everything, and it certainly doesn't retcon the first two volumes, it just takes things in a much, much more complicated direction, and I ended up loving that.
The new focus on the Yotsuba group was a great way to reintroduce the classic Death Note Kira vs L chess game of outsmarting each other, and it concluded in an unexpected and enjoyable way. New characters add new dynamics to the story, but they don't feel shoehorned in. At this point there are so many elements at play that I feel like the battle between Kira and L could go a million ways.

ੈ✩‧₊˚📓 Characters 📓 ੈ✩‧₊˚

: ̗̀➛ Light: My man right there. I’ve really grown to like Light, and Misa genuinely loves him and it’s so cute ♡

: ̗̀➛ Misa: She was so much less annoying in those one. She still wants my favorite, but she wasn’t as clingy in this one.

: ̗̀➛ L: Im not even surprised that he handcuffed himself to Light XD He’s still my favorite character in this series.

{⚠️ Spoilers ahead ⚠️}

ೃ⁀➷ Kira: Honestly, I wasn’t sure how I felt about Light losing the notebook and there being a new Kira at first but I ended up really liking it. It set up a lot of action and suspense which is always a big yes.

4.5 Wow, what a ride. The end is definitely very fast paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat!

Now we see a new version of LIght, the version he would be if he wasn't Kira and that is actually very interesting. We also see relationships grow and I have to admit that Misa brings a sort of light-heartedness to the story which sometimes is needed.

For now the second volume is my favorite (I don't know on second read). Although, I'm enjoying how the story is progressing and I want to see how Ryuk is coming back in it. I'm also eager to know how Light's plan is going to work out and the decoy of having another Kira worked really well, kept me busy and interested anyway, in the meantime.

In my opinion this is the last *really* good installment of that series, after that it just kinda goes downhill, even though the latter half is still decent. ;) My main complaint with the first half of the series is the treatment of Misa. Her character is a fucking joke, and given the fact that she is the only female who plays a slightly bigger role, it is just such a fucking travesty that her character is exploited in such a way, and that she's just this annoying, stupid girly-girl who has no mind on her own.

This was OK in my opinion becasue it didn't have the spark from the previous two Black Edition installments. I thought this volume dragged along and did not have meet the expectation that the first two set. Thanks!

This is a review of the entire series.

Synopsis: Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects and he's bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami, a death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer. With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal... or his life?

Review: This series is intelligent, dark, full of suspense and makes clever use of metaphorical religious themes and imagery. It’s a look into what happens when great power falls into the hands of a young man named Light. Light is a collected, highly skilled and incredibly smart young man with the powerful urge to make the world a better place. The Death Note gives Light the ability to kill anyone at any time by writing their name down in the notebook and he aims to erase all criminals from the world, as well as innocent people that may try to get in the way of his morally flawed goal.

Light becomes corrupted by the power to choose when people die and we are subjected to watching an idealistic young hero slowly reveal himself to be a narcissistic sociopath with a god complex. Light is cunning and charismatic, yet he’s also petty and spiteful. You'll find yourself rooting for him as often as you'll find yourself hating him.

This volume was such a disappointment. Everything that I loved from the prior volumes completely went away for me in this volume. I hope things pick up soon.
