Favorite Food at Home is a gorgeous cookbook, full of full page illustrations and simple yet sophisticated recipes. Most of the recipes are simple and straight forward with ingredients that are easy to find, yet the recipes often have an unexpected international flair or unusual touch that makes the special.

I made several recipes from this cookbook starting with Duck, Lentil, and Cabbage Salad. The lentils, cabbage, duck, hazelnuts, and chile made for an unusual but delicious combination. For a salad with only 8 ingredients it had an impressive depth of flavor and texture. This is a great company dish that I will make again.

Next I made Banana and Peanut Butter Muffins. Wow! I make a lot of muffin recipes and this is one of the best! Great texture and flavor, and they rose to beautiful crowns on the top. I ate them with Rhubarb and Ginger Jam, another winner from this cookbook.

Winter Vegetable Broth with White Beans and Chorizo was another easy to make, delicious recipe and the addition of chorizo really makes it something special.

Am I raving about all the recipes? Yes! Everything I made from this cookbook was something I will make again. Favorite Food at Home now claims a front and center spot in my kitchen. I only hope that William Morrow publishes Rachel Allen's next cookbook in the US.

Ms. Allen's writing is casual and interesting, but, overall, I found the book was too simple or unappealing to me personally.

Clearly Rachel Allen is brilliant when it comes to making recipes look and sound so easy and then when you go to perform them you are not disappointed at all, because they are just as easy as she said they would be :D. I really enjoy cooking from this book and there are a lot of warming, home baking recipes there that I just love eg, peaches meringue and toffee apple crumble. Oh so much ideas for having family and friends, love the home cinema section with the baked potatoes and home made toasted door stopper sandwiches and of course the caramel popcorn recipe is the best! Loved this book, definitely one of her best!

Borrowed from the library, enjoyed Rachel Allen's style and the family-type photos most of all. I did make the banana-peanut butter muffins. They weren't anything to write home about, and because no one really liked them I moved on to another cookbook without trying any other recipe from this one.

Not only do I still want to go to Ireland (which is why this book appealed to me originally), but I want to try so many of her recipes!! They are easy & sound delicious. Plus, she has COMPLETE directions for making everything, including what things should look like, exactly how & when to stir something, etc. I really enjoyed this one!

I think Rachel Allen might be one of my favorite cookbook writers. I'm pretty selective about which cookery books I actually purchase. This is the second book by Rachel Allen that I have borrowed from the library and then made a quick purchase. Everything I've made from either book has been a hit at our family dinner table.

I'd quibble with the 'Ireland's Most Famous Chef' (in my mind that's her mother-in-law), but not the 'Ireland's answer to Nigella Lawson'. The recipes aren't anything radical, but they're easy and delicious. The photos are great too.

The recipes are Straight forward and non-intimidating with suggestions for alternatives. Everything I've made so far has been delicious! The arrangement, by event or when you might serve the food, is initially confusing but as you read the notes from the author it makes sense
