This astrology-heavy book has a very odd feel to it. I was trying to figure it out, and finally concluded that it felt a little like either a computer-written or committee-written book, in which the parameters were the behaviors and characteristics associated with each character's astrological signs. Someone assigned the signs, then plugged the various situations into the computer to ask what this particular character with this sign would do in this situation, then the writer was required to use whatever the computer decided and try to make it work for the story. Basically, it's inconsistent, and sometimes what the characters do or how they react just makes no sense at all or is completely contradictory to what they did earlier.

Another objection is that the setting is difficult to picture and understand--it's not well enough described, and often characters end up somewhere and the reader thinks, "Huh? How did they get there? Have I ever heard of this place before in this setting? How does it fit?" and other questions.

Also, the characters seem to forget for the first five chapters that the internet exists. They're arguing over who gets the books to do the research they need. I checked at that point to see if this was set in the 1980s or something, but later they remember the internet. The whole argument over the books is contrived to create controversy between the two main characters, but it's completely illogical (alas, as my librarian self says).

The book is being marketed as a romance at a writing camp, so I went into it expecting (oddly enough) a romance at a writing camp. But the main plotline is solving an old murder mystery/ghost story. Because that was nowhere on the back of the book or indicated in any way by the cover art, for the longest time I was just irritated that all this mystery/ghost stuff was taking attention away from the real plot. When I finally realized that it *was* the plot, I was irritated because the author had not conveyed that. Perhaps that's the publisher's fault, though.

Lastly, if you're not *really* into astrology, like, Nancy-Reagan-levels of into it, that part is going to wear on you by chapter two. I appreciate that the author was maintaining her focus, but there's maintaining focus and then there's boring your reader with things that are only of casual interest. Medical and legal fiction probably have the same issue--how much info is too much. I suppose it works on a parabolic curve; you have to determine how to satisfy the maximum number of people. Anyway, this is too far off the top of the curve for me, though astrology lovers will, ipso facto, love it.

Ok Bonnie...Thats was the most amazing book....but I just....I waant! I jsut cant....why do you do this to me and I cant get the next book for a while!

I WANT MORE! Such an amazing book, great characters and a good plot...why do you do this to me? WHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYY?

Anyways.

Logan is a great heroine for all those young aspiring girls out there who want to get noticed in their field of interest, I think she's kind, brave and all around smart...she's been betrayed so I can relate to her even more. I love her style and her fear, yes even that, she's just a wonderful character, I HOPE I meet a girl whos somewhat like her....yeah.

The story is actually quite nice and enjoyable as other stories I've have come cross, Bonnie is that rare gem in the desert, you just cant help but notice, and you just want to pick it up and keep it. Her writing is such an amazement that I cant keep my hands away from her next book. Must HAVE!

Anyways, what I found in this book was such a advenutre though a girls point of veiw (yes I'd like to explore that type of genre (or as i call it janera) I just love to explore new adventure, grantid that I loath 1st person with great lengths, this one, much like the Hunger Games is an exception.

The stroy kept me interested, the characters made me feel welcome to their world and I saw things that maybe no other reader saw when reading this, so amazing!

Now that I got that out of the way, lets get started on one more piece I want to express.
...
...
...
...
...
Vanessa and Ren...those two whores can die! I hated them, Ren refused to listen to Logan, you should never get mad at kids just because they want to find out something You think should be forgotten! NO IT DOES NOT WORK LIKE THAT YOU WHORE! and you Vanessa, and Candice for that matter, you stole Logan's book? Hell to the NO! its girls like you who make men feel dumb! Screw YOU! I cant even express how much I hate you two hos! OOOOoooooohhh! WHERE IS MY WAND!

And finally, Jeremy started out like Jace fro The Mortal Instruments, but he had a really good backstory and some real value to Logan's research as a reporter and a writer. I like him and Logan together...the ho tried to get him, but she failed! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (Bitch)

anyways that's that from me, please take the time and find out more about Bonnie Hill and her fantastic books, you don't now what you're missing!

Aaaaaaand I'm out!

Logan is attending the writing seminar with famed author Henry Jaffa. She's excited to show him her work and see if he'll agree to be her mentor. Her plan hits a snag when instead of writing their own topics, they're required to write someone else's topic.

Now, Logan must write about local singer Sean Baylor - a singer in the sixties who mysteriously died one night. She's not interested in writing about him, but grits her teeth and determines to write the best paper possible. However, her classmates aren't as agreeable.

Her new crush, Jeremy, doesn't want to give up his topic. He's taken all the research material, leaving Logan to do some digging of her own. She's more interested in Sean Baylor's life from an astrology point of view. Without many resources, she steps outside the box. Logan uncovers some mysterious clues. Together, the two attempt to unravel the mystery surrounding the singer's death while each trying to win the coveted place in the class.

TAURUS EYES is the second book in the STAR CROSSED series. I love the layers of this book: romance, meeting new friends, research, mystery, enemies, and ghosts. Each layer just adds more to this fun read.

So I read Taurus Eyes not realising it was the second book. I don't think it mattered, though.
Overall it was a pretty lame book, not the worst ever, but far from great, in my opinion. This is why:

- Half the time I was confused about what was happening, particularly the 'could have been killed' scenes, nothing happened except some guy with an earring appeared at the scene. How is that life-threatening or scary?
- Secondly, the whole thing about astrology - I'm interested in reading about astrology, which is one of the main reasons I decided to read Taurus Eyes. But seriously, Logan had like every planet in Pisces. And nearly Every. Single. Character. had a different star sign at the camp, like how coincidental is that? Did the camp select students based on their sun sign so there were no two people with the same one there? It felt very unrealistic to me.
- The plot of the book. Like other reviews, I was expecting a camp-romance-fluffy sort of book with interesting astrology. Actually, the book was about some amateur girl who tries to fit everyone into boxes according to how they should be based on their sun sign, attempts to suck up to her teacher, and takes it upon herself to solve a ghost mystery.
- The repetitiveness. I couldn't tell you how many times I read " a watery, emotional pisces" throughout the book. These adjectives were just getting old, and anyway, are only a basic overview of that placement.
- The whole Jeremy Taurus thing. So basically, Logan likes Jeremy only because of his Sun Sign and eyes? 'Cos that's pretty much all I understood. Jeremy is so annoying, he acts all cold and above everyone else, ignores Logan most of the book and yet Logan is all like, 'it's fine, he's a Taurus so he's therefore allowed to be cold, stubborn, un-sharing and rude'. That doesn't even make sense.
Then, Jeremy goes on about how he can't let Logan go somewhere dangerous alone, oh no, he absolutely must come to protect her. Then when they get there, and Logan is" in danger", Jeremy just runs off, throwing a warning over his shoulder that Logan should run. He just looks after himself without a care for Logan, and honestly, I couldn't care less if Jeremy fell off the boat and went missing in the ocean or something. Logan too, I was getting real annoyed at her for forgiving every single thing Jeremy did.
So yeah, in conclusion, this book was not as awful as some other books I've read, but I still wouldn't recommend it, unless you want to get confused and annoyed.

This is the second book in the Star Crossed trilogy and Logan McRea is finally heading toward Monterey Bay and her dream fellowship with world renowned paranormal author Henry Jaffa. Although not everything is as Logan imagines it when she arrives. Between Jaffa scrambling everybody's article topics and the confusing yet totally hot Jeremy, Logan needs Fearless Astrology more then ever. She uses her pondering Aquarian nature to uncover the truth behind the supposed haunting by famous pop musician, Sean Baylor and win over Jaffa. The only thing standing in her way is fiery Aries Vanessa who seems to have it out for her and her very conflicting feelings for Jeremy. Okay so here's the tea about this book... I liked it but I did not love it. If you look on my good reads I rate the book a 4 stars cause I knew what it was. This series as a whole is geared toward the preteen crowd and not really for older teen and young adult readers. There were times while I was reading this that I felt like I missed something. The mood and the tone would suddenly change for really no reason. I get the author was trying to make it seem more suspenseful and get the reader on the edge of their seats, but in all honesty it just doesn't work. There were a couple of situations that it just didn't jive well and it felt choppy and underdeveloped and really just out of place. The character development was pretty on point. Logan got more confident; the love interest was dreamy, although his development was a bit strange feeling to me. He was somewhere between a flat underdeveloped character and a developed one. He just wasn't quite there for me. So far this series as a whole is just been kinda meh for me. I have started on the third book and this will be my first time reading the third book (The first two I read when I was younger). So the first two as rereads are eh. I loved them when I was 13 but 10 years later they don't particularly hold up.

Due to the mix feelings from reading this book, I was inspired by a Goodreads friends Demonic Circus Princess in her review of Fallen (which made me laugh over and over and over again)

(Note: I did not know that this was the second book in the series. However, it's okay to read the second without reading the first))

Me: It's Star Sign Dramarama time! I'm your host, airhead 'Aquarius' Aira and I've got with me Logan whose an Aquarius as well, and Jeremy the hard working Taurus man and Vanessa the me - me - me Ram sign. Say hi to the lovely readers.

Jeremy: [glares around the room]

Logan: You there with the red shirt, showing cleavage and smiling smugly, I have a feeling that you're an Aries. Attention seeker. You reek from here.

Vanessa: Didn't you say I was an Aries? [pauses, then snarls] Hey!

Me: Well then! Glad everyone is acquainted. I'll start by asking a question to Logan that I'm sure everyone is thinking when you first thought that Jeremy's eyes were so riveting; Why him?

Logan: It's the Taurus eyes. It's so expressive and it's not guarded behind a wall like a Scorpio, nor cheeky like a Gemini. Jeremy's eyes made me feel like he saw into my soul. I could tell right away he was passionate and stable with emotions.

Vanessa: oh gag. Are we ready to talk about me yet?

Jeremy: [glares at Logan and folds his arm]

Me: Wow, that's a lengthy but interesting description. And you still feel this way after seeing him in a raunchy position with Vanessa. In addition, how rude and dismissive he treats you at times. Why?

Vanessa: I was lost! Jeremy found me.

Logan: Yeah, yeah. I'm sure you were lost and decided to thank Jeremy by being really close to him.

Me: Logan? The question?

Logan: Right! I'm sorry. It's just sometimes I mull it in waiting for the right comeback. Anyways, um...well, Jeremy is Jeremy. He's just so passionate. When

Vanessa (looking bored): Is it my turn yet? [lowers the front of her top to expose more cleavage]

Me: You'll get it soon.

[eerie music plays]

Logan: What was that?? Where did it come from? [looks left and right, high and low] Did you hear that?

Vanessa: OMG, I'm sensing something. A presence... Definitely a man.

Jeremy: Oh sorry..That was my cell.

Me: Now, Jeremy, you were intent on doing the research on Sean Baylor, the musician. What would you say motivated you to do so?

Jeremy: I... I don't wanna talk about it. It's personal.

Logan: He's more secretive than a Scorpio [swoon]

Vanessa: Good. He doesn't know and don't wanna talk. now, for me it would be the feeling. I felt Sean's presence there.

[Jeremy furrows his brows and broods mysteriously]

Me: Uh, whatcha doing there?

Jeremy: I'm brooding.

Me: Oh goodness. Go brood over there. So, Vanessa how do you feel about -

Jeremy: [glares in a hot way)

Me: Who was that? Who shouted that accusation?

Julie: Um..I'm one of your early thoughts. The constant one you had around chapter 15 onwards.

Me: Any thoughts?

Logan: See, you as an Aquarius enjoy over analyzing and over thinking everything. This is just another one of your rambles in your beautiful, complex mind. Not as complex as a Gemini and not as beautiful as a Libra but still beautiful all the same. We're just voices in your head. We can be confident enough, like a proper Leo and strut around talking in several voice.

Me: What?

Vanessa: [sneers, still showing cleavage] Looks like the interviewer has the last laugh.

Logan: I see dead people.

Me: Okay.. Let's end for now.

And to those who thought this was a review to insult, not at all. I found Taurus Eyes a fresh read with the star sign info thrown in. The ending. Wow. For a second there i wondered how Hill would end the book because I'm sure there's gonna be heartbreak. But the ending was beautiful. Perfect. Maybe it's my hormonal side kicking in but I love how the book ends.

I quite enjoyed Aries Rising and was pleasantly surprised to discover two more books in the series that I haven’t read yet. Now that I’ve finally finished the second installment, I must say I was a little, just a tad bit disappointed. It has a very different vibe than the first book with the whole ghost mystery business and Logan being at Berkeley, but like, they completely shove aside the old cast in a really lame way (only for them to reappear and then disappear again in a lame-ass way).
However, I still enjoyed this book because the author does a really good job with the new mystery genre, keeping the suspense and the reader guessing. It’s a strange direction for the main character to take, going from finding pranksters to exposing ghosts, but I guess they’re technically in the same vein.
Long story short, this book felt different from the last one, but it’s rather likable nonetheless.

"He has something to hide, and, for some crazy reason, he's afraid that I might discover it."

In Aries Rising, the first book of the Star Crossed series, Logan McRae is dealing with the Gears (a school group that dissed the teachers too far that it was far from pranks that are fun and enjoyable) and Nathan (the cute Leo senior who enjoys Logan's compliment). Click here for my Aries Rising review.

In Taurus Eyes, Bonnie Hearn Hill took a different approach. Still mystery--but rather than figuring out the secret members of the Gears, Logan is surrounded by ghosts.

Sure, Logan got accepted to the writing camp she was waiting so long for. This is a dream come true--to work with Henry Jaffa, her favorite author.

On the plus side, there's Jeremy who's handsome. Cold Taurus, yes, but when in relationship, Taurus are "faithful and loyal."

But if in Aries Rising there's Gemini Geneva, in Taurus Eyes there's the hot Texan Vanessa, an Aries. She doesn't seem to even like writing (or even give a damn about it) so Logan really wonders how she can be accepted to the writing camp.

Then Henry Jaffa (with the same sign as Logan, Aquarius), suddenly decides to switches everyone's topic around. Hence, Logan's knowledge on astrology won't really help her to get published in CRUSH, the teen magazine.

She got Sean Baylor, a famous musician that died falling off a boat. That's Jeremy's topic. You can't really start a battle with Taurus, cause you'll be losing it.

But Logan did, and she held on her own. Can Logan work together with Jeremy? The downside; everyone's been saying that they sensed Sean Baylor's ghost and hearing one of his famous song.

Why is Jeremy so cold? Why does he insists on writing about Sean Baylor so bad? Well, it turns out that Jeremy has a secret on his own. Great, just great; while Jeremy won't tell Logan what it is that drives his passion so bad, everyone related to Sean Baylor is making Logan stop researching.

Can Logan be friends with Jeremy? Will Henry Jaffa understands everything?

What I love about the book: Over Aries Rising, I love Taurus Eyes more because it was more mysterious. It was filled with more conflicts, it just intrigued me way more than Aries Rising. I also love how Bonnie Hearn Hill always relates the character traits to astrology, as if astrology is just the simplest way of explaining why a person is like this or that. :D

What I dislike about the book: Again, "the end", people! >:(
If Taurus Eyes didn't come out, I would want to wait for Gemini Night because there are some things with Jeremy that's just left hanging, and obviously I don't like having hanging stories in my head.

Taurus Eyes is the second book in the Star Crossed series, and I would say it is better than the first. This time around, Logan is at Writer's Camp taught by the famous Henry Jaffa. Throughout the book, we learn more about each of the astrological signs as Logan tries to write her paper from an astrological perspective. Along the way, there is plenty of drama, boy problems, and even ghosts!

My favorite part of this book is the mystery. I absolutely loved guessing what was actually going on. Adding the idea of ghosts to the story was exciting and added to the mystery! Logan was so much fun in this book. She is more sure of herself and what she wants. I really liked Jeremy, her crush this time around, more than Nathan. Nathan always seemed a bit shady to me, so it was nice to see a guy with good intentions. I would have to say their romance seemed a bit premature. One thing I really liked about this book was that Logan put her writing before the boy. I thought that was awesome. So many books are all about getting the guy that it makes it seem like the girl NEEDS the guy to succeed. I liked that this was not the case. The guy was more of an added bonus, not a necessity.

Taurus Eyes was a spectacular addition to the Star Crossed series. I am definitely enjoying everything about this series. Each book is so much fun to read. It seems like I learn something new about astrology every chapter. Before reading this series, I never knew astrology can be so much fun! If you like fun, light reads, I recommend picking up this book.

*Actual rating was 3.5 stars

This is the second book in the Star Crossed series, and I have to say that I enjoyed this one more than the prequel. That's partially because of Logan's new love interest, Jeremy, and partially because of the intriguing mystery. This time, Logan sets out to discover the truth about something much more important than a few rebellious teenagers.

Logan is a strong, determined protagonist. I admired her for her witty comebacks and daring personality. Many new characters were introduced to the series while Logan is at the writing camp. I enjoyed meeting the new people, but I also missed Chili and Paige. Their unbreakable friendship was my favorite part of the first book.

While the astrological aspect of the novel is fascinating, at times I wish Logan would give it a rest. Not everything can be explained or figured out based on the position of the moon or sun. At least, that's my opinion. I kind of wish she would have let her strength and strong personality help her solve problems instead of her knowledge about astrology.

I was actually surprised at the turn of events near the story's end, and now I'm ready to jump into the sequel. I'll be posting my review for that sometime soon (hopefully). Overall, Taurus Eyes was a fun read about a spooky ghost mystery and the newfound romance Logan discovers while trying to win the approval of her writing mentor. If you're looking for a light, original read, then you've found your book.

This second book in the series I liked even more than the first. Logan was as tough as ever and in addition to having to deal with a sexy eyed boy who was a bit here and there, she also had another mystery to solve.

Seems that Logan always has a mystery to solve, I guess that is just what the cosmos have in store for her.

I still liked this book a little more than the first. I thought her love interest, although moody, suited her better and wasn't as superficial. Henry Jaffa, the teacher for this writing school over the summer, kind of made me laugh for some reason and there were a selection of female characters that showed the epitome of high school stupidity and even a little genius. I'd say plus 5 for that!

Yet again though, I'm still feeling that Trix Bunny with her love life. Come on, love is for Logan! But...and, I'm not saying either way, but maybe...possibly...there is a good chance that in Taurus Eyes, Logan gets to have some fun in Monterey Bay with a pretty sexy bit of man flesh. *big grin* (Which, I would just like to say that I think Hill does such an amazing job in this book describing the eyes of the sexy bit of man flesh...gives me tingles just thinking about it.)

In the end, I think this book does have a happy but bittersweet ending and if your on the look out for ghost stories and dock side kung fu, pick up this next book in the Star Crossed Series.

Cross-posted from my blog where there's more information on where I got my copy and links and everything.

I’m still not a giant fan of this series. This one does feel slightly less shallow, but it still fell into a lot of the same traps as the first book. Logan’s lack of motivation and independance really annoyed me this time around. So much of the plot isn’t because of something she wants, but because of something the boy she likes wants. Also, book summary/back of the book? She’s 90 minutes from home. People where I live go further than that to go grocery shopping. And she goes home for the weekend. And her friends come up to visit her. Honestly, I wish she had been further away because if she’d had to stand on her own two feet more.

The girl hate was super strong in this one, too. Literally on the second page it was obvious who Logan’s rival was going to be. Two pages to designate a girl to hate, who Logan literally declared her “enemy”. And half of the reason that Logan seemed to hate her was that she had boobs. So many of the comments about her are body shaming and gross.

On the plus side, while there are still no queer people, no disabled people, no fat people, there were a couple more POC in this one. Minor characters, but they were there.

Also the girl on this cover is in, like, all the things.

The second book in the Star Crossed series. Logan has won a spot in a summer writer's camp headed by one of her heroes, journalist Henry Jaffa. Jaffa throws everyone an unexpected curve ball when he has everyone switch topics. Can Logan use her astrology skills to defeat her competition and track down information about her new topic, dead blues singer Sean Baylor? Fans of this charming series will not be disappointed.

Taurus Eyes. Sequel to Aries arising. This was just a tad bit better than the first. And I also get to know more about signs and a lot more about my sign Virgo, since there was a character who was Virgo in the book. Over all, the book was pleasant and interesting.
