This is one of those books that you actually have to read. It doesn't look good on a shelf, and you can't just flip to a random page.

I like to read up on cooking and the recipes are for professionals - the cuisine is vegetarian and gourmet leaning. It gives you insight on how to pick quality ingredients and some recipes that you won't find anywhere else.

A little outdated, but a good reference book. Had some ideas that I hadn't read before with nutrition and found interesting.

Read this book to learn a bit more about the nutrition in food and which foods are best for different situations. Not only does it cover many types of food, such as fruits, vegetables, and meates, but also different kinds of physical disoders. There is also a 7 day meal plan attached to these.

Each food item is broken down into description, what to look for when buying, storing, as well as different ways to enjoy it. Some of these recomendations sound really interesting. And the best part is that each food item covered includes one or two recipes for that food, and some of them I really want to try.

This is a fine sourcebook and information guide for anyone interested in what the different foods in the pantry and fridge have to offer as far as vitamins and minerals, fat and fiber content, and health benefits. Alas, there is only one recipe for each food mentioned, but there are are hundreds listed, not to mention whole recipe and menu guides for specific health problems (like "Diet For A Picky Gallbladder") and the results of critical research into the benefits of, for instance, high-fiber diets. This book is far from the ultimate authority or final word, but there is a lot of good information packed into a small space.

I basically skimmed through the book and from what I've read it seems handy enough to keep in the kitchen. I think I'll try out some of the recipes as a way to try out some things I don't eat often — or ever. And I think it will be a decent enough reference when I want to know which foods have more fiber or certain vitamins etc.

This book was very helpful when I lost 20 pounds in 1992 (see, I even know the year, it was such a big accomplishment!). Just reading about healthy and delicious foods was good reinforcement, and there's a lot of nutritional information given.

Going to thumb through this too, see if there is anything I need to plant yet this year or next! Another goodwill buy, I'm telling ya, go there!
