Dance in The Vampire Bund is a vampire manga that I happened to catch the short series on Netflix a few years ago. The anime never had an end so I’m hoping to get one by reading the manga. Mina Tepes is the vampire ruler even though she has the body of a 9 year old girl. Her guardians are the earth clan a pack of werewolves and she’s taken a fancy to one young shifter Akira making him her companion. The Vampire Bund has been created at last offering a safe place to all the vampires they just have to be oathed to Mina the vampire. However someone is determined that Mina won’t lead and is attempting to have her killed. Thankfully she has Akira by her side even though I think Mina can take just about anyone. She’s also wanting to start sending the vampire children to the school where Akira was attending claiming it was built with the intention of teaching both. However the students as well as vampires aren’t so thrilled and things run rapid.

In the 6th installment Akira is still fighting for his life against the assassins who are determined to figure out Mina’s secret and end his life. While fighting the challenges he finds help from people he’s encountered thanks to Mina who are willing to risk their lives to help save his. Giving him time to heal and fight off the attacker’s one at a time. While waiting for the champion to arrive Mina wagers her future on the arrival of Akira as the champion. Will Akira return to Mina or will the challengers be to much?

I find Mina an intriguing character even though she’s an ancient vampire trapped she’s in the body of a young girl which makes her seem weaker. I have a feeling she’s a lot more than the girl she appears to be at least so I far and I’m curious to see how she evolves. Not sure how I feel about Akira I’ve got some mixed feelings about him at the moment. I see a potential love match but hopefully Mina will grow up a little physically.

I watched the anime on Netflix but it didn’t really have a ending and that was a few years ago so I’m hopping to see how it will play out. I like the art some of the detailing is well done. The concept is interesting the idea of building a vampire city for them all to live in seems to work protecting the vampires as well as the humans. Mina is an interesting character who’s quickly growing on me with each page. The story is face paced flowing smoothly along. I’m looking forward to seeing how it will all play out at last. I’m quickly finding the series addicting it’s hard to put down the more I read the more I want to know how it’s going to play out next.

Nice development of Mina and some really cool world building with the Earth Clan and it was really funny to see Yuki and Mina get jealous of Angel. But I feel real bad for Yuki as I really like her but she isn't really given a lot of development and is just used to help develop Mina and Akira. Which is kind of a shame as their could be some great development for her as she has to cope with the fact that the person she loves cannot love her and that she cannot help her friends because of the situations their world puts them in.

Dance in the Vampire Bund is the story of a vampire kingdom built on an island in Tokyo Harbor. The leader of the vampires, Mina Tepes, who is in the form of a young teen is guarded by a werewolf, Akira who is her oldest and dearest friend. There are efforts to undermine the kingdom which is a haven for vampires. This particular episode is little more than a teenage romance to set up future volumes and introduce new characters. It has only minor action but there is a good story in play.

Just when you think our main characters are safe from the three clans, a nano virus strikes our queen and sends her into a dreamlike slumber. The introduction of Angie is pretty great. Took me a few pages to realize the running gag! Wait is it a running gag? What will happen next!!!!

The remainder of volume 6 (see review for volume 5) was almost like a side story. It was good, but did not advance the main story line.

Volume six will probably raise eyebrows of parents just by the cover. Mina (who is depicted as a prepubescent girl, in spite of her true age as a vampire princess) is almost entirely naked. A reminder: this manga is targeted on adults, not kids or early teens.

It opens with Hamaseiji, the detective turned assassin being interrogated by Mina. However, since he did save Akira’s life last volume and wants to help him and Mina now, and since the Earth clan (werewolves) have spoken for him, Mina has to decide if she’ll spare her life.

As Akira recovers, life goes on and Mina has tried to make changes in the schools so that vampire children can attend. Her goal is peaceful coexistence and the end of prejudice, and we all know how well those goals usually turn out. We also learn that Akira’s friend (and now Mina’s) Yuki is an ecchi yaoi fanfic writer that Mina adores and has published wider than the girl attended (and the main character is an idealized Akira who is less than amused). Mina goes one step further showing Yuki all of Akira’s childhood photos.

After a breech of security, Akira finds himself suddenly reunited with his childhood partner, Angel ‘Angie’ Avenant. Mina and Angie get off on an instant wrong foot as they see each other as rivals for Akira’s affection. Working against Mina is the fact that werewolves always work in teams, partnered for life. It’s a good bit of world building and foreshadowing here in the fact that Akira has been alone for a couple years now. Angie is quick to point out that the only thing unknown to her is the number of scars Akira has accumulated in Mina’s service, a quick hit to the vampire’s faith in herself.

Soon petty jealousies are forgotten as Mina is poisoned, left fighting for her life.

In spite of the intense fan service (which was way less this volume), this remains one of the most interesting vampire/werewolf manga on the market, so long as you keep the audience age in mind.

New characters are introduced in the form of Angel Avenant, who has a past relationship with Akira that might conflict with Mina's. The jealousy is more or less resolved when more information comes out about Angel, but something Angel says to Mina comes back to haunt her, and she falls into a coma. During her coma, she has a glorious dream - that she is just a normal girl, and Akira a normal boy. There are no vampires, no werewolves, no Bund. We see what happens to Mina as she grows up human, with many of the familiar characters of the story around her.

This story continues to charm in its own way, though, still, the subject matter is definitely not for children or even younger teens. The sexuality in Vol. 8 is not as overt as in some of the others, however. The art is still gorgeous, with clear definitions of the characters.

Before you read any of the books in this series I have to warn you that it can be humorous but the main story has dark elements and nudity(even prepubescent). If this bothers you I would not recommend this series but if you like vampire politics set in city of vampires off the coast of Japan then by all means check out this series.

In this book the recovery of Akira after his recent fights comes to an end. I enjoy the the various tie in to various already existing character's pasts and the introduction of Akira's old partner Angie(with some interesting misunderstandings.)

My favorite part of the book however is toward the end. I like how they gave Mina a chance to see life as if she were a normal girl through some interesting story telling. Vampire technology is fascinating. :)

This volume was a lot of fun to read. It was a nice, light-hearted break from the intensity that was volume 6. We had a lot of character revelations as well as a lot of characters getting some more depth. I think my favourite aspect was Mina's dream. It was awesome getting to see her really win in all aspect, even if it was a dream.

Anyways, I thought this volume was one of the better ones in this series, and I look forward to the next few!
I think I am about half way through the series, and I still need to buy the last 2 I think. Should be more fun reading ahead!

I feel like a lot of these covers are misleading, they tend to make the reader expect one thing and you get another, which isn't a good thing for the manga. The story is good but the covers might deter people from picking it up sometimes and I think a lot more people will enjoy these if the look beyond the cover. The characters are good and the story is interesting and I think the story will get better from here.

I am starting to get really hooked. I am enjoying the revelation of these new characters.

This just got real. Angel's introduction is wicked cool - except I think there was a hint at her actually being a him? am I reading that wrong? -
And the jealousy that arises is very palpable. All in all this is probably my favourite in the series so far. Will need to pick up 7-9 very soon here. Running behind in the times.

Shifting from the raw action of 4 and 5 to a more romance oriented story, if only teasingly. Brings greater clarity and depth to the characters.

As a manga newbie, this series still confuses the hell out of me. Leaves me wondering whether I should like this, but in no doubt that I really, really do!
