Robin Meade is the poster child for confidence and self-assurance. But the anchor of Morning Express with Robin Meade wasn't always that way. In fact, there was a period in her career when she was plagued with anxiety and panic attacks. In MORNING SUNSHINE, she tells how she overcame her fear of public speaking to go on and achieve her dream of becoming a news anchor.
Robin Meade offers her own tried-and-true four-step approach to building confidence. Her trademark warm, personal style translates from the screen to the page in this book, which will give readers even more insight into the young woman who came out of nowhere to become one of the most popular news anchors on television today.
Thank you Robin Meade for writing this book! I highly recommend it to those of you who are dealing with anxiety and/or a lack of confidence, or for anyone who needs some strategies to be the best and happiest person you can be.
First of all, Robin is a great writer. I would love to see her write a novel because she has an excellent writing style...fun, fluid, and easy-to-read. I read her book in two afternoons and enjoyed it thoroughly.
Secondly, I applaud Robin for her generosity in sharing her story with us. As a beautiful and accomplished newscaster/anchorwoman, she could have just let us all think that she is a "perfect" person without a single problem. But Robin (as you can tell on her show) is a really kind and down-to-earth gal with a wonderful sense of humor. In this book, Robin shares her own experiences with anxiety, having a lack of self-confidence, being the target of jealousy, and having a fear of being herself because she was afraid that people wouldn't like her.
These issues are ones that so many of us have dealt with, and it's great to know that we are not alone! Robin pushed past these obstacles to achieve her dreams, and this is a great inspiration.
Further, she provides wonderful, practical, and useful strategies for dealing with anxiety (which I won't reveal here!) simply by changing your thinking patterns and taking care of your body. I have been implementing these ideas in my own life since I read the book and I am feeling much better already.
I hope that Robin reads her reviews because if so I want to say, "ROBIN, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!"
I expected this book to a memoir by HLN morning anchor Robin Meade, but found it's both self-help in the confidence category and a collection of stories from her working life. A nice cheery book of advice, and some good tips.
This is what she says in "A Note From The Author" at the end of the book: " If you were indeed looking for insight on how to walk into the house of confidence, I hope this book has encouraged you to at least crack the door! Through frank anecdotes from my life, I've tried to lay bare some of the issues I've had to work with in my own view of self.
Today, at HLN, I've done a complete 180 from my confidence-challenged days. I'm comfortable in nearly every situation on air. I wear whatever clothes I choose. I'm not afraid to be the dissenting voice in discussions with coworkers. When appropriate, I don't mind voicing my opinion with you, the viewer. In other words, I've found my confidence."
Robin's aunt loaned me her autographed copy of Morning Sunshine!: How to Radiate Confidence and Feel It Too. I think she saw past my friendly facade. As a painfully shy, but very outgoing person (yes, it is possible), I gratefully accepted the loan. I read the book in just a few days and thoroughly enjoyed it. I knew Robin's pain and fear--I've lived it myself too many times for too many years. I could relate to what she was saying, and yes, I expect perfection of myself and think I have to be perfect to be loved. Because I am not perfect, I've spent a quarter of a century alone. Painfully alone. Robin gave some practical "balance" exercises that I haven't attempted yet, but I plan to--after harvest. If you read this, Robin, thank you for your candid portrayal of all that you went through!
On HLN’s news show Morning Express with Robin Meade, the anchor absolutely shines with confidence as she brings the news each morning. You would never guess that she was at one time frozen with fear and questioning her ability to do her job. With an inside look at some of the insanity in the news business, Robin tells her story of overcoming her doubts and fears.
Morning Sunshine is not a stuffy self-help book written by a psychologist delving into your brain. Instead it is a “Hey, sit down here friend and let’s talk about this” pep-talk book. She shares her experiences at work, some embarrassing moments, her upbringing, and many touching and personal stories. Especially helpful for me were her ideas on handling criticism. Each chapter has a Confidence Booster, The Takeaway (sort of the final thought of the chapter), and Robin’s Ramblings.
The book is a well written, warm, and interesting look at how we react to others, the pressures we put upon ourselves, and how it hinders us personally and professionally. I enjoyed the book and it makes me appreciate her television show and professionalism even more.
I was inspired to read "Morning Sunshine" because I watched Robin Meade give the news every weekday morning. She always radiated happiness both on the air and in her book, which is written more like an autobiography.
She summarizes her childhood, college days, and her news positions before becoming national on HLN. One would think that with a job like Robin had, she would have wealthy parents who influenced the executives of television stations to hire her. Not so. Robin's parents were factory workers, and their house was "in the middle of a cornfield". Robin worked hard to get where she was at HLN.
As mentioned by other reviewers, Robin had some battles to fight along the way, namely anxiety issues that she overcame with professional help.
This book is out of print, but you can find a copy on Ebay or Amazon.
Good book, surprised that it was better than I thought it would be. Would like to have heard more about Robin's rise to success at CNN in a more detailed and chronological fashion but then this was not a memoir or autobiography either so...she offered some good, sensible advice based on her own experiences including her bouts with severe anxiety & panic while on the air. This book did make me like Robin more too in fact as she portrayed herself as a real & normal albeit very successful Midwestern girl from Ohio. Would not mind hearting more from her as an author in the near future too!
What a nice surprise! I opened this book not knowing much about Robin, but by the time I was finished I was a huge fan! Throughout the book I felt like she was talking to me, and I loved that she summarized the lessons she learned after each of her anecdotes. If you're looking for a confidence boost, learning to deal with negative thoughts, or if you simply are interested in a different way of looking at life I highly recommend reading this!
I won this book on Good reads. It is an easy read and actually she does a good job helping to explain how you can get more confidence in yourself. She does always seem to radiate confidence on her show so it was a surprise to read about her struggles with anxiety. A good book for young girls who need help in having more confidence in themselves. Her stories are fun to read and this is an easy book for taking along when you have short times to read. Her book is very positive!!!
I loovvee Robin Meade! Dusty & I watch her EVERY morning. She's so bubbly and peppy, you can't help but like her. When her book came out a couple of months ago, I was surprised to learn she suffered from severe anxiety. I, myself, have pretty high anxiety and I was so relieved to know that someone like Robin experienced it and overcame it by coming out super-confident in the end. It gives all of us "worriers" out there hope! :)
This book was a great antidote book. Loved the stories about Robin's life and her dificulties. You see her as an everyday person. I did not get any of the self help stuff out of it. I found it was more of a wish you had confindence like me and maybe if you do this someday you might have some. Not a try this or that book. I would read it again, there were several humorous and laughable moments. Thanks for sharing Robin.
I truly appreciate the open, honest, and intimate insight into Robins life struggles. Robin tells us of a method she has used for self discovery but this may not be the journey for you. That said, it provides some great tips, advice, "Robins Ramblings", and most importantly it will kick start you to question how you personally 'tick' on your own road to self discovery. Thank you for Sharing Robin.
At first I thought Meade's attitude was too optimistic and her troubles not serious enough to write a book like this; but I kept reading and found the easy-reading aspect of the book to be a plus. The advice she shared from her sessions with Dr. Case were especially enlightening. I have never seen Meade on TV but I got a good sense of her bubbly spirit.
This has a nice, feel good, friendly vibe to it that makes you feel as if you're sitting listening to one of your girlfriends. The chapters are a nice length, but not too brief. There is a lot of useful information from someone who has truly been there and done that and can genuinely speak from experience. Definitely recommended for anyone looking for an upbeat, positive read!
This is the closest you will get to having a conversation with the cute and fun Robin Meade. She writes as if she's talking with you, not to you. Now do I feel more self confident having read it? The jury is still out on that, but there are a few points that will stick with me and that's better than where I started!
I love Robin Meade and was happy to find she was very down to earth. I saw myself in alot of the issues she talked about that she used to have. The book helped me see a few things about myself differantly which Im sure was her goal in writing this book. Great self help book and a good look into Robin Meades life.
What a great book...inspiring and full of great advice on how to be more confident. Robin also shares her own experiences with self-confidence (yes, this gorgeous and talented woman once had issues with her confidence).
Now if I can take the advice she has given and use it in my own life, that would be great!
Good book... I am a therapist and there are definitely pieces of this book that I will use in my practice. I have a number of clients whose depression is directly related to their lack of confidence and self-esteem. Robin's writing style and humor made the book fun to read.
Excellent book! Very entertaining as well as informative, and helpful to those who suffer from anxiety. The lovely Robin Meade was very generous in sharing her story with readers, and I'm sure this story will help many people.
Heavy on the story of Robin's personal experience of panic attacks before going on the news, and not as much on the practicality of generating confidence for the masses... There are a few helpful tips, but not as much as I had hoped. :/
This is a wonderful book for anyone looking to build their confidence for their career. Robin Meade is delightful and very candid in this book. She uses her life experiences and challenges in her own career to tell the story.
I won an autographed copy of this book in an online contest. It arrived with a nifty little Robin Meade book marker. Just finished it last night. I had to put it to the side in order to catch up on some other important reading and studying. Robin is definitely inspirational.
I really appreciate that the beautiful and talented Robin Meade chose to share her story. As a victim of anxiety, I have been helped by this book. Thank you, Robin!
