Suzuki Julietta is a Japanese manga artist born in the Fukuoka Prefecture. Her pen name comes from a character named Julietta Sakamoto from the seinen manga series, Air Master. She likes cats, koalas, and sharks. According to an interview with Hakusensha, she first started drawing when she was in her second year of elementary school in a sketchbook of Japonica. During her free time, she meets her friends, goes for a drink, or out for a meal. She states that although she doesn't read much, she enjoys works by Junji Itō. Her favourite character is Ashia and mentions that male characters are easier to draw in general.
I LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH. IT'S JUST AMAZING, I REMEMBER SO MUCH OF IT WHICH SUCKS BECAUSE I WANT TO BE SURPRISED BUT THE ANIME TRULY DID DO A GOOD JOB AT CAPTURING THE SPIRIT OF THESE MANGAS. Can't wait to read the next one!
I've been reading this series only for a short time now, and can't help but to compare it to InuYasha. Not just at first glance but some what the story line as well. But as I've said I'm only on the second or third volume so far. But so far so good. If you loved InuYasha or traditional Japanese folklore and demon stories, mixed with sillyness, action and a touch of romance you'll like it.
I really wish I read this when I was still at school, I would have been absolutely obsessed with this series!
Still, I found myself really enjoying Vol. 3, more than volumes one and two, probably because Tomoe and Nanami's growing attraction to each other feels more natural.
In the anime, Kurama warns Tomoe that Nanami may develop feelings for him and then right after Nanami realises that she likes Tomoe. Her familiar unfortunately has zero feelings for her, which makes Season 1 a bit painful to watch. In Season 2, Tomoe begins to develop feelings for Nanami, but this time she's completely oblivious.
In Season 1, there was a lot of scenes with Nanami's pov, less with Tomoe, and as a result her love for Tomoe feels like a silly school girl crush. In the manga, we receive the same amount of lingering-stare-scenes between Nanami and Tomoe. It's clear that whilst Nanami is slowly developing feelings for Tomoe, her familiar is beginning to like his God as more than just his superior.
Overall 4 Stars, presently read the first 20 books. Additional: Like most long running series there are some duff chapters/volumes. Personally I think the series drops after the first 10 or so volumes but it wasn’t until 17+ that I started to lose interest.
So all the good things; Kamisama Kiss is a series that’s full of fun and unique characters. If you’re on the lookout for a feel-good read then this it definitely a series I’d recommend. The story has such a good opening.
I liked out determined Nanami is. She works really had at making the best out of situations that look impossible. So, despite not being welcome at the shrine she’s just been gifted (read the manga!) she will make it work. Her relationship with Tomoe is also brilliant.
Kamisama Kiss has a lot of humour, nice art and great characters. I came across this series by accident and what a happy happenstance that was.
Wow! Kidnapping and attempted assault that is conveniently forgiven because the perpetrator was "lonely," an overly jealous male lead, AND backstory that's going to make the male lead even MORE stereotypical?! Boy, I'm amazed I made it through this volume!
Damn, I feel like such an asshole being so harsh on a beloved series, but I am not having a good time. Maybe it'll get better, though?...Maybe??
I love Tomoe and Kuruma's dynamic so much!! They just hate each other's guts but it's so much fun watching them go at each other.
I also loved the little flash to the past where we got to see a very different Tomoe. I kind of already know where this story goes since I spoiled it for myself a while ago. But I still can't wait till we get to know more about Tomoe's past life before he became a familiar.
Nanami is in trouble once again - a white snake has marked her as his bride! Tomoe is desperate to keep his master safe, so he enrolls in Nanami's school. Let the chaos begin!
Even though Himemiko appeared only briefly in this volume, I really appreciate her kindness to Nanami. She dressed Nanami up and Tomoe called Nanami beautiful 🥺💖 (I don't care if he did it just to run away from the carp princesses but he still called her beautiful!)
And the new snake that engaged himself to Nanami was interesting. I don't like what he did to her but it made Tomoe more protective towards Nanami so why not 👀💗💗 AND WHY DID TOMOE HAVE TO CUT HIS HAIR AAAAAA HIS LONG HAIR WAS SO BEAUTIFUL
After seeing the anime of Kamisama Kiss, I am so happy that it followed exactly with the manga. I just wish it were easier to find volumes of the manga.
The story is getting weaker. Nanami is starting to act like the kind of girl I try to avoid reading in a manga: whiny, dependent, weak. Now she is falling in love with Tomoe, which happened too quickly for my taste. And she is starting to suffer because of that, with all the 'why does he not look at me the way he looks at other girls' etc.
There were things I liked in this volume: when Tomoe went to school disguised as Nanami, and that Tomow cut his hair. I did not like him with the long hair. As for the chapter with the Snake, just MEH.
Nanami gets taken captive by Mizuki, a snake familiar who has an empty shrine with no kami. Later on, Tomeo takes Nanami's place at school - transformed to look like her - while she's off with a fever.
Nanami is framed as being delicate and a bit helpless in this volume. However, I love that she always makes the most out of a bad situation and how determined and warm-hearted she is. She is sympathetic toward Mizauki and is dedicated to her role as a kami.
Tomeo's past as a wild fox is also explored, underlying the series with suspense and mystery. Nanami's developing feelings for Tomeo seem (at the moment) like a childish crush; I found myself cheering more for their relationship when watching the anime. Yet their moments together are still sweet.
Overall, this manga has a lot of heart and humour. All the characters are lovable and their interactions with each other are hilarious.
Continuing my reading of this incredible series, I'm having the best time. In this volume with meet Mizuki, I remember super hating him here because he basically kidnapped Nanami and tried to force himself on him until our husband Tomoe showed up! Also in this one the comedy continues strong and as well as the romance, slow but steady.
