Such an odd book by modern standards. It does include a great number of recipes, but is extremely uneven in its treatment of various liquors (goes into great detail on whiskies, scotches, and bourbon, but then doesn't provide the same distinctions to rum or tequila); notes teaspoons or partial teaspoons of superfine sugar rather than portions of an ounce of simple syrup, and most perplexingly of all buries the "versatile cocktails" i.e. the classic forms such as smash, daisy, fancy, crusta, etc. at the very back of the book! Additionally the author doesn't clarify in certain places what type of liqueur should be used (a cherry kirsch is very different from a syrupy cherry liqueur like Heering but you're left to puzzle over which might be intended in almost every recipe, for example). Such as wasted opportunity to truly educate the reader on the basic cocktail forms and highlight their variations as they appear throughout the sections, as well as be clear about the distinction between different varieties of liquor and liqueur types.
If you're looking for a sort of peculiar dictionary of drink recipes to reference or memorize, then this will serve as such a reference. Otherwise, it's a thoroughly wasted opportunity to improve your understanding of cocktail mixology.

It has become an even handier reference in these “unprecedented” stay-at-home times! 🤪

Incredibly informative, was a lot of fun to read through. There are an endless variety of drink possibilities here, ranging from fairly basic to decently complex. In addition to providing recipes for a plethora of drinks, this book also contains instructions for anyone wanting to stock their own bar, either at home or professionally.

come on people, like you weren't expecting it. This is a great reference that anyone who entertains should own. Unless of course you don't drink... or know anyone who drinks...
I can't fathom that scenario. I tried. Drink and be merry.

I'm actually using this book as research for something I'm writing, it's a great reference but I'm not reading all of it verbatim, I'm just referring to it and reading about the making of liquor and things. So this is basically an on-going read and it's nice!

Ever get home after a long day and just wish you could mix yourself a Frightleberry Murzenquest? Once you know what one is, you'll totally want to do that.

Tons of recipes for all kinds of drinks, and I really enjoyed reading about them. Would have liked a few more history or explanation of drinks, but I know that would have made for a much longer book.
