I rarely ever give books 5 stars unless i truly enjoyed it, but Rachaels true story of heroin addiction definately pulled at my heart strings. I myself have struggled with drug addiction, and her relationship with her mother throughout the book, and the absence of her non existent father, is so relative to me in so many ways. Her mother was never around, and her father was an addict himself. Rachael's mother never wanted Rachael to know who her father was, due to him being an addict. Rachael's grandmother is the one who raised her (which is also extremely relatable to me) so this book really touched me in alot of ways. Rachael became the poster child in Ireland of what heroin and shooting up does to you. Her story got national attention, and became a number 1 best seller. This Entire book is Rachael telling her true story of being addicted to heroin. She visits many rehabilitation centers, jails, detox centers, ect. and always ends back up in the same spot. Rachael couldn't let the heroin go. She received help and many chances from multiple sources, all to let her family down again and again. She stole from her own grandmother to fuel her addiction to heroin (also relatable) so this story got me almost emotional, due to me being in the same shoes as her at one time. Rachael also had a poor choice in men (also relatable) due to her not having a father to teach her what kind of man she deserved her. I found this book very relatable, and was extremely proud of Rachael in the end for finally getting clean. Her true story Inspired millions, and also inspired me, and that's why it gets a 5 star rating for me. She takes you down her path, and let's you see the ugly side to addiction, and how it completely takes over your soul and mind. When your addicted to heroin, you will do anything to feed your habit. Unthinkable things, such as prostituting your body. Her infamous image of her arms from butchering herself from shooting up heroin completely baffled me. When I seen the picture in the back up close of her arms, they we're almost completely withered away. The fact she overcome het addiction had me smiling in triumph for her in the end. Rachael is a beautiful woman, and I'm glad she travels around to schools and explains to children and teens what it's like to be addicted to heroin. Her story is all to real. Especially with our epidemic in America. Wonderful story, and had me picking up the book every chance I could.
