The Avertonson brothers and I have been friends for as long as I can remember. They’re also twins, but where Foster is all light, Kingsley is darkness and danger.

I’ve been in love with Foster for a while, but the night I finally get the courage to tell him is the same night I nearly drown.

I don’t remember much about what happened, but when I come out of that lake, I’m not the same girl I was before I went in. I’m lost and confused, especially over how I was saved.

Foster insists he’s the one who swam into the water to save me. I want to believe him, but I keep having these dreams where Kingsley is the one who pulls me out. But both brothers swear it was Foster.

I’m not sure what to believe or why they'd lie, but I need to find out the truth. But the more I search for answers, the more I realize I don't know the Avertonson brothers as well as I thought.

Paranormal- Angsty - and full of Mystery- Jessica Sorensen books are always a guilty pleasure of mine. I love diving into a book I can read quickly and be totally engrossed in. Almost every book by this author I can’t seem to put down once I start it, I have to finish it in one sitting. This one was no different. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!

This book captured me in a way I wasn't expecting it to. I liked the overall dynamic the plot had in keeping the reader/the main character in the dark but it got frustrating by the second half. A few minor details did eventually come to light. The way the story left off makes it impossible for me to not pick up the next book.

Harlynn was an interesting character to a point. She usually finds herself at the right-place-and-time too often to be believable (even for a fictional piece of literature) for my taste. I liked the paranormal element the story had but, personally, I wish the author had punched it up more. It's barely there and when it really starts going the book ends.

Kingsley was the main reason I kept reading this novel. His secretive actions and overall shut-down demeanor did something great for this story. Though I predicted way too much of his actions at the beginning of the novel, I still liked seeing it all develop.

Foster was a jack*ss and I don't know everyone even liked him. After reading about him for 5 pages I could smell the BS rolling off him in waves. How anyone stands him would be my question to all the other characters in this novel.

One other problem I had with this book were the names for the male main characters. I couldn't get them right because they all sounded alike and pretty much blurred into one character in the early chapters. The names were identical to other characters this author has written about in other novels, so that also left me scratching my head. There are SO many names available why reuse the same names?

Overall this was a good book. It kept me intrigued until the end. Though the paranormal element could be put on a higher level I want to know more about what's going on.

My Favorite Quotes:

"Do you ever get the feeling that life is just one big, pathetic tragedy?"

"[...] Wanting something and getting it doesn't exist in my world."

"But what if there's more to death then just spirits."

Best friends are supposed to last a lifetime, but what do you do if you are in love with one of those friends? Harlynn has longed to have more than just a basic friendship with Foster, but doesn’t know how to tell him. What Harlynn doesn’t realize is just how much Foster manipulates the aspects of her life. The push that Foster injects into Harlynn’s way of thinking tends to overrule her basic instincts. Slowly but surely, Harlynn begins to realize just how much of an influence Foster has possessed in her life.

With the blinders off, Harlynn realizes that Foster has some really odd explanations on the events that occur in his life. Questioning his intentions, Harlynn begins to realize that she might have more in common with Foster’s brother Kingsley. For years, Foster had tried to ensure that Harlynn never had any type of friendship with his brother. Now that Harlynn is spending a little more time with Kingsley, she begins to realize that there are more secrets surrounding the three of them that she ever could have imagined. Where will the truth lead Harlynn in her quest for answers?

Breathing Lies is the latest novel to be released by author Jessica Sorensen. Secrets and lies will unravel as Harlynn questions a life altering event. This journey for answers will lead Harlynn to discover that everything in her life may not be as cut and dry as it appears. Who can she trust? The answer might be twisted with a bit of mystery.

Kingsley has definitely captured my attention. What is he hiding from Harlynn? Only time will tell what secrets are lurking beneath the truth. It’s a mystery that gets more interesting the deeper Harlynn digs for the answers she seeks. Sorensen will lead you by the coat tails with her writing, giving you little bits of information without revealing that burning question that you are dying to uncover. A great start to another series with a paranormal element that you will not be able to miss!

I didn't like it. While the plot was interesting albeit a tad cliché, the pace annoyed me. Everything was moving so fast and there were a lot of plot holes and the relationship between Kingsley and Harlynn seemed fake and forced out. They didn't talk for the most part of their lives and then he breaths life into her and poof! insta-love ensues.
So I'm supposed to believe that she was manipulated her whole life by her best friend turned enemy, Foster, and then the spell breaks off so easily? That's not how abusive, manipulative relationships work at all.
All in all, it reminded me of the silly Wattpad stories I used to read when I was 12.

This book is so not what I think it was going to be. Is it paranormal is it thriller suspense I don’t know because so much is happening and I love it! The twists I don’t see coming are great. Har has been inlove with foster since they were kids she had his twin brother would play together all the time. But as the years passed she and foster got closer. On the night that he confesses he loves her too they get into an accident and now everything has changed she sees and feels things she didn’t before and now her eyes are open to the truth. The only person she can confide is the last person she thought of but now they need eachother more than ever. Book got really good! I’m getting the next one!!!

I loved this book, it's so different to anything I usually read! The mystery and suspense is crazy strong and I definitely need to read more mystery.

This book starts with Kingsley, Foster and Harlynn, best friends since young, yet due to some slightly psychotic tendencies Foster persuades Harlynn that Kingsley is stalking her and tries to get her to stay away from him by telling her lies and twisting the truth. This works and years later it's just Foster and Harlynn - best friends. He controls and manipulates her decisions making her go against her innate instincts while hiding her true personality. In this book, she realises how unstable he is and tries to distance herself from him. While doing so she gets closer to Kingsley and uncovers some lies she's been told. This is an amazing book filled with secrets, lies and uncovering truths with a paranormal twists which naturally makes the book all the better.

So I think we've come to the conclusion that the plot is incredible and unlike anything I've read before but the characters are just as likeable. Harlynn begins as a somewhat meek girl following every word her best friend tells her but throughout the book her development is amazing changing from this meek girl to a strong, powerful and extremely caring protagonist.

Now Kingsley starts as somewhat a mystery with all the lies being told about him but the more we learn about him the more we see his sweet and caring side come out. He has a tough, moody exterior but every time Harlynn does something goofy or caring he gives a little smirk and I don't know about you but sometimes that's more telling than a full smile. I can't wait to see how his character fully develops as we see him spend more time with Harlynn.

Not only are the main characters amazing but the side ones too. Porter is funny, a jokester and a great friend to Kingsley - pushing him to get out of his comfort zone and get closer to Harlynn.

I loved this book and I highly recommend this book to anyone loving books about mystery, secrets and lies with a paranormal twist.

So this was not my normal kind of scene but I didn't know that and to be honest. I'm glad I did not know because I probably wouldn't have read it otherwise.
I thought the main genre would be romance considering I found it in that genre but I found the main genre to be mystery. Maybe even an thrilling mystery. There was of course some kind of romance but it was so limited. But I didn't mind that here.
The mystery. The 'What will happen now?' and 'What happened that night?' or 'What the hell is going on?' kept me at the edge of my seat.
I read this book in one sitting. I just had to know what happened next. Every chapter was like 'Okay, one more chapter and then I will start cleaning the house' and 'One more chapter and then I will go the store'
Only then to found out it ended with a f*cking cliffhanger ! Goddamnit ..! Not only that but I have to wait untill spring 2019. Fall is only just begon. I can't wait that long. I will die of not knowing how it continues.
This book is that good and I am looking forward for the next book.

I recently discovered Jessica Sorensen as an author through her Enchanted Chaos and Cursed Hadley series.

I didn't particularly care for this book. Quite a few typos/grammar errors. Also...what is with the names??? Does this author name her characters the same names? Maybe I am wrong, but it seemed like there were at least two of the same names.

I didn't feel as if I liked any of the characters in the book. I feel like there weren't any big surprises, right from the beginning, in my opinion, the author was pretty obvious about the big "twist" in the book.

I won't be reading the second book, but as always, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. The world would be a very boring place if we all liked the same books. :)

Does Sorensen have an editor?

Always such good story lines but soooo many grammar and spelling mistakes that it gets incredibly distracting! Is it Sorensen that doesn’t know the difference between you’re and your along with to and too or is it just her “editor”? I did love this book but I really hope the second one has fewer mistakes. I’ve been turned off from reading her books (this is probably the third) because of this very reason and I really hope she fixes it.

I LOVED the premise of this book, it had so much potential but the way it was executed just didn't align with what I had expected. I was about to give it 2.5 stars but it gradually got a little better so I bumped it up to 3.

First of all, the blurb displayed basically summarizes 75% of the book. Harlynn spent more than half of the pages trying to figure out who saved her from the damn lake when we already know who it was. Why reveal one of the main plots in this book in the blurb?? I don't get it. That made reading this book feel rather pointless despite us finding out more about what happened to her towards the end.

The main reason I was about to give the book such a low rating was because of two reasons: Harlynn (pre crash) and the writing. God I wanted to yell at her during the beginning of the book. I just hate how I understand that this is just the way she was but God I couldn't stand it.

The writing was terrible in the beginning. At first I thought it was just because it was from a young Harlynn's POV but NO, it continued up until she woke up from the crash. The sentences were just..flat and it felt like there was a very limited vocabulary being used. This and the way Harlynn was in the beginning made it absolutely unbearable. Even post crash, the writing lacked here and there, but I could still turn a blind eye to it.

Also, what is up with choosing overly complicated surnames??? avertonsons, trerallie????? Also what happened with Harlynn's friend?? Alena or something??

I also think the writer totally passed up on a brilliant opportunity when she was

The saving grace of this book was the reveal of the what is going on with Harlynn. The only reason this got 3 stars was because of Hopefully, the second book will be better than this.

Sweet paranormal romance that will have you intrigued and wanting more.
I wasn't expecting the paranormal side of this book, I though it was just going to be the typical love triangle between two brothers and the girl, but I actually really enjoyed it and I finished it in less than 24 hours.
Maybe because I don't usually read this kind of books and I tend to stick to the romance/YA genres that I found this one very entertatining, the whole plot of the coming back from the death/connecting souls.
And I really really REALLY loved Kingsley and absolutely HATE Foster. Kind of predictable what happened the night of the accident, at least part of it, but I'll definitely read the rest of the books in the series.

So good!!!

I NEED this next book. This story was so amazing. I love Harlynn... or at least who she is after the accident and I adore Kingsley. I saw Fosters issues from the beginning.

I hate that this is being dragged out into two books. I guess it’s meant to keep you interested? I’ve never been one to invest into multiple books and honestly if I had know it wasn’t a stand-alone I probably would’ve had read it. Glad I did, but I HATE that I have to wait. It’s totally worth it.

Also, it says it’s coming out Jan 2019??
But I can’t find ANYTHING about it’s release coming up and there’s only a week left of Jan. IMPATIENT!!🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Possible spoilers....read at your own risk

I hate to say I knew it but....I KNEW IT! Hahahaha
I knew Kingsley was misunderstood. I just knew that pretty-boy goody-goody act Foster was pushing out was fake as shit. Harlynn....mmm I'm not sure why I'm so disappointed in her but I am. She should have been a better friend. Stood up for herself and asked questions from the beginning instead of blindly following Foster. Now the whole drug thing and missing girls happening. I really REALLY think that is all Foster. I though so from the moment of the accident. Everything just screams psycho killer to me.
Anyway, I'm ready for more!

This was a good book. The beginning is a little slow, but about midway through it picks up and becomes a page turner. I love spooky books, and this one definitely gets spooky. 👻

The romance in the book was mild, but still exciting. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but I feel so bad for Kingsley. The mystery behind Harlynn’s connecting to him was exciting.

Of course the book finished with so many unanswered questions, but it only makes me want to read the next book that much more.

I was surprised to see it changed from a duet to a series, it looks like there will be a 3rd book coming soon?

An emotional journey filled with twists and turns. The writing immediately draws you in and I enjoyed the the plot immensely. Secrets and lies drag three friends into a twister of emotional drama. Who are we really? We only show pepole what they want to see when in fact we are hiding are true self from the world. I have to admit I was second guessing these characters who is the bad guy and how far will he go for what he wants? This is a book of mind games and I can't wait to see how this all goes in the next book.

Honestly, I'd rate it a 3.5-4 stars while I enjoyed the mystery of it, I felt it was rushed in a way and that the relationships could've been built more. I loved each character they just needed more time to build. It felt slow in the beginning, but once introductions were finished, it was sped up in a way that did more harm to the story than good, in my opinion at least. The plot itself was good, and the final relationship had a lot of promise. I also wish Star and Porter had a bigger part in the plot as well. None the less it was still an enjoyable quick read.

I was told this book was good so I took a chance and my god it was amazing, at first I loved foster he was kind and thoughtful and woukd do anything for the person he loved, or so he would make you believe, slowly I turned to hate him, Kingsley..wow now I love him, he's the one who sits at the back quietly watching but no saying much.

I need whispered darkness I can't wait to see what happens.

Chillingly amazing!

When I first read the synopsis, I automatically though one of the twins was going to be the manipulator. Kinda was right a little bit. This book has me confused at the beginning, but once I actually figured out what was going on, I was HOOKED. Read this book in about 4 hours. I cannot wait for the second book
