I wanted to stop after this short story but ZAK IS COMING in the next installment!!! 😍 I'm ready to fangirl over him once again, and I have a feeling Kit will be a bit of a fanboy too ☺️😆
This is the short story of Kit, Lienna, Shane and the MPD investigating the burning of Zak's farm. They suspect it was caused by black magic and that the owner is a black magic practitioner, yet when they find buried artifacts in the ground, instead of bringing them back to a lab to secure and investigate, Lienna finds a sealed metal case. Instead of taking her time at a lab, when she can't unseal it, she throws every magic she can think of at it to open it. Surprise, surprise her brute force attack on the mystery case unsealed Harry, the ancient fae lord trapped in a skull from his prison and he starts to regain his true form. I don't get it. Why wouldn't they be more cautious, or at the least have Shane, the psychic who can determine an object's history determine what the case is and what it's used for. When mysterious black magic is involved, you'd think they'd practice a little prudence and common sense.

Great short story. Just wanted to write a review in case anyone is looking for it. I found it at the end of an audiobook (Hellbound Guilds & Other Misdirections) taken out from my local library.
3.5 stars -- This was truly a short story, just a little bit of extra that kind of ties in to the Spellbound world a bit.
I had actually forgotten that I had read it when it initially came out, but during my reread this summer I realized it was at the end of the 2nd book's audio, so I went back to it in the recommended reading order.
It's interesting to catch a little glimpse of interactions with different characters, and I think it does add to the whole world, but it's really just a few scenes. I did appreciate that Kit protected Lienna from the truth in the barn.
The short story, A Little Warped, starts the investigation on a new case for Kit and Liena. Family farm property that a certain rogue Druid from Dark Arts and a Daiquiri used to own has been blasted by black magic and a body and other items are evidence. This ends with that scene tied up and will be the prequel for the next Warped installment, Rogue Ghosts and Other Miscreants.
Read in the ebook version of Hellbound Guilds and Other Misdirections.
This was a short story at the end of my audiobook, Hellbound Guilds & Other Misdirections. The story is one of Kit's and Leanne's early (first?) cases, when they investigate the burning of Zak's farm. There is evidence of black magic as well as a mysterious box that has been sealed. Naturally, Leanne decides to take it to her lab to open it. What could go wrong?
The burning of the farm is mentioned in at least one other book, possibly a second book. It's a fun way to overlap the different series in this universe.
3.2/5 … Took me a moment, but quickly realized where they flew to and who’s farm got obliterated… It looks like our little MPD duo is going to be investigating the destruction of the Ghost’s farm and looking into him and that sorceress that’s after him (and their feud). I’m really enjoying all these cross overs. I’m always hoping all the MCs from the different series will get to interact and come together more fulling. On to the next (author’s recommended reading order, which weaves all the codex series together quite nicely so far).

This was tucked in at the end of the Warped #2 audiobook. It's about an hour listen. It doesn't really have a hard, fast ending, so it may be that the reader just imagines the rest of the investigation, or it may lead into the third book. Not sure yet, but the main characters from this series are all here. And I enjoyed this short more than I would have if I hadn't been up on Tori's series as there's a direct tie in.
“You want to know who shot this gun last? Get a psychometric to rub their magical paws on it and they’ll tell you. What better dude to invite to a mysterious crime scene? “Is that why you wear the gloves?” I asked. He nodded. “I don’t need to know every mouth that’s drunk from my mug.” “What about every ass that’s sat on your toilet?” He frowned. “My powers only extend to my hands.” “You flush, don’t you?” His frown deepened.”
Short unfinshed story leading into the next book. Kit and Lienna go out to the country with a bounty hunter to a farm devestated by black magic. They almost let loose a Lord of Drangfar and the story ends when they bind it back to the skull.
I kind of don't care for novellas in a book series this big especially since they are already low on the page count but I do like the extras, not sure why this one and others cant just be added in. worth the read.
This short story (54 pages) was included at the end of Alchemist and an Amaretto. It is about Kit and Lianne investigating a farm that has been completely destroyed. It’s basically a teaser for the next Kit book. But still a fun read.
Edit...B+ rating... I'm changing my rating now that I have some clue as to how this plays into all the other series and characters
B- rating. Hmm, no idea how to rate this as I don't know these characters or understand how it even fits into the series or why I needed to read it. I hope that will become apparent in subsequent reads.
This is a very short story with Kit and Lienna investigating a magically burnt down farm. It seems like quite a random addition to the Guild Codex Universe, and my least favourite so far, purely because so little happened or was explained. However I assume it will become more relevant as I continue with the Warped series.
