UNA RISATA CI SEPPELLIRÀ
Pizzeria Kamikaze in graphic novel: testo di Etgar Keret, disegni di Hasaf Hanuka.
Woody Allen s’è trasferito a Tel Aviv.
Però è più cattivo, più nero, più macabro, più pulsante, e vitale, e fresco. Più divertente. Meno cinico, più malinconico.
Nove racconti, alcuni molto brevi, altri più articolati, ed è nato un nuovo scrittore. Un nuovo artista che scrive e fa film (sceneggiatore, regista, produttore, attore, segretario di edizione!) e fumetti e cartoni animati.
Forse non è il suo esordio, ma lo è per quanto riguarda l’Italia, il suo primo libro pubblicato da noi.
Che sin dal titolo la dice lunga: come raccontare una realtà che sembra irreale, due popoli che convivono divisi e separati, con reciproca diffidenza, spesso disprezzo, quando non del tutto odio, boicottandosi, il forte schiacciando il più debole, il prepotente prevaricando chi è senza autorità, in un perenne stato di guerra, che spesso è guerriglia, bombe attentati morti, per strada, a scuola, in casa, razzi nel cielo…?
Nel tono dell’assurdo e del surreale, risponde Keret. Usando la lingua di tutti i giorni, la lingua della strada, dei giovani, con parole che vengono dallo slang.
E io lettore apprezzo la sua scelta.
I protagonisti sono perlopiù giovani di vent’anni o giù di lì.
Alcuni vestono un’uniforme e fanno, o sono costretti a fare, cose brutte tutta la settimana: poi, nel weekend sfilano in corteo in una manifestazione pacifista che protesta proprio contro quello che fanno dal lunedì al venerdì.
Oppure si tolgono la divisa all’ora dell’aperitivo e si lanciano nella movida, allungando la notte in un rave.
Altri sono vegani ossessivi, niente latte e neppure uova: poi, sono anche cecchini, killer, uccidono gente senza esitazione.
Il film del 2007 “Wristcutters: A Love Story” di Goran Dukić è tratto da uno dei racconti di questa raccolta.
Nella pizzeria del titolo lavora Haim: ha iniziato due giorni dopo essersi suicidato. Tra i clienti che mangiano la pizza, belle ragazze che vien voglia di rimorchiare, anche se hanno cicatrici sui polsi o la pelle molle di chi è annegato. Ma in fondo anche loro bevono birra e fumano canne.
E se a un tavolo della pizzeria si siede Kurt Cobain, i clienti e i camerieri lo ignorano ed evitano perché si lamenta troppo e non la smette con le sue canzoni.
Se Haim va a fare la spesa al supermercato capita che sventi una rapina. E poi incontri arabi suicidi coi quali scambi buone chiacchiere metafisiche.
Quasi come se esistesse un universo parallelo: ma quale dei due mondi è quello dritto e quale quello alla rovescia?

What happens after you die? In this graphic novel, there’s a special place for those who have offed themselves— just like life but slightly worse. A self important rock star named Kurt has a cameo; but “there’s this thing after you off yourself—you could give a shit about somebody singing about how unhappy they are.”
Good premise and well done. The idea that suicide does nothing more than take you to another world, very similar but slightly worse, is appealing. Also manages some dark humour. Plus a white cat named Freddie.... but how did that cat wind up in this place?

Fikir iyi, çizimler de gerçekten başarılı ancak üzerinde biraz daha durulsa daha kapsamlı ve sağlam bir hikaye ortaya çıkarılabilirmiş. Oldubittiye getirilmiş gibi bir his bırakması haricinde genel olarak güzel.

Ölümden sonra aşk var mı?
İntihar edenler arafta uyanmayı beklerken, kendilerini bir anda dünyanın aynısı bir paralel evrende bulurlar. Burada da çalışmak, ev aramak, sosyal çevrelere katılmak ve tabii ki aşkı bulmak ya da en azından günü kurtarmak için çaba harcamak zorundalar. Tabii bu evrende, bir önceki hayata veda anlarının izini taşımak zorundalar. Hikaye de çizimler de çok güzel.

9 racconti veramente ma veramente strani! Mai letto nulla del genere!
Il titolo del libro è il nome della pizzeria dove lavora il protagonista di uno dei racconti: "Il centro vacanze di Kneller", che è il racconto più lungo della raccolta.
Mi sono piaciuti moltissimo, il mio preferito in assoluto è "Colla pazza"! 😁
Di seguito i voti per ciascun racconto:

« Non essere triste ». Tziki mi ha toccato con una mano sudata. « I medici hanno detto che non ha sofferto. Sai, è stata una morte istantanea ».
« E chi è triste? Sei matto? ». L'ho baciato sulla fronte.
« Lei è qui, capisci, tutto quello che devo fare è trovarla.».
« Non la troverai mai. Ma lo sai quanti cadaveri ci sono qui? Io e te giriamo da non so quanto tempo in questo buco, in fazzoletto non più grande i un metro quadrato, e nemmeno conosciamo la metà della gente. E allora? Dove andrai a cercarla?
All’inferno ? Può darsi che questa Mimosa stia persino a un piano sopra il nostro »

3 ⭐️ Mi viene da ridere perché dovrebbero essere nove storie crime, comunque macabri, ma a me sinceramente hanno fatto tanto ridere. Tanto che non si capiva nemmeno la trama, tre stelle più che sufficiente.

Discontinuita'. Potrebbe essere il titolo di questo libretto che unisce alcuni racconti brevi o brevissimi tratti da raccolte diverse. Il gusto del macabro, il sarcasmo, l'ironia e il paradosso non mancano ma sono distribuiti in maniera troppo diseguale. Se alcuni racconti possono essere definiti dei piccoli gioellini (ad esempio 'Asma' o 'Colla pazza'), altri sono dei mini polpettoni francamente noiosi e ripetitivi. Quando aumenta la lunghezza del racconto precipita la qualita'?! Per molti versi la capacita' di scrittura e' apprezzabile ma a mio parere si tratta di un autore 'veloce' che andra' messo alla prova con qualche altro libro.

July 27, 2010No tenía el gusto de haber leído a Keret. Cuando esta editorial, Sexto Piso, publicó Extrañando a Kissinger recuerdo que causó cierto revuelo en la crítica nacional. Por una u otra razón no llegué a leerle hasta ahora con esta Pizzaría Kamikaze. Desde los títulos de los relatos te atrapa. Abre con La historia del conductor de autobús que quería ser Dios, en el cual no hace falta agregar absolutamente nada para explicar de qué va. El punto de escisión es el estilo fluido y campechano en que va narrándonos las historias de desamparados espirituales. De la gente del subsuelo y del infierno de los suicidas.
El carácter irreal de los escenarios y los personajes tan bien definidos y caracterizados, dotan cada uno de estos relatos de una sensación de lo cotidiano. Lo que se vive día a día en ocasiones sólo con un twist, con un pequeño giro circunstancial que todo lo modifica. En ocasiones, en alguno de los relatos se deja sentir esa idea de captar todo como en un falso documental, e investigando un poco sobre Keret, uno se da cuenta que hay una relación directa del autor con el cine, con lo visual. No hay que confundir, no, no son relatos que buscan ser cortometrajes ni viceversa.
En la página de la editorial Siruela, quien publicó este libro en España, dan la oportunidad de leer el primero de los relatos. Aunque, en definitiva, el mejor del libro es el que lo cierra y que lleva de título el mismo que el volumen.

Yazarı da çizeri de ilk defa okuyorum. Tek yıldızı kırmamın sebebi, karakterler ve olaylar hızlı geçilmiş gibi geldiği, biraz daha derinleştirilse daha güzel olurdu diye düşündüğüm için. Çizgiromana uyarlama olduğu için olabilir, hikayenin orjinalini de okumak lazım.
İntihar kişinin kendi için alabileceği en uç karar, ve dini olarak da kabul edilmiyor. Yazar intihar edenlerin arafda kalma halini farklı bir şekilde ele almış. Tüm intihar edenler bir arada ve hem aynı hem farklı bir dünyada birarada yaşıyorlar. Kahramanın bu yeni dünyaya alışması, aşkını araması, ve tıpkı yaşarken olabileceği gibi aşkı yeniden bulmasını okuyoruz.
Hem naif hem çarpıcı bir hikaye, sonunu özellikle çok beğendim. Kitabı bitirdikten sonra da üzerine düşünmeye devam ediyor insan.
Çok fazla çizgiroman okumama rağmen tespit ettiğim bir şey var, ya kelimeler baskın oluyor ya da çizimler. Bu kitapta ise bir denge var, ne çizimler ne hikaye öne çıkıyor. Bu nedenle oldukça başarılı bir çizgiroman olduğunu düşünüyorum.
Siren yayınlarını da baskı kalitesi nedeniyle tebrik ediyoum.

I guess I don't really like what Keret did with the longer narrative. (Is this his only story that isn't a few or several pages long?) Seems a bit choppy, especially with the introduction of the Messiah King. Maybe I'm missing something, though I've attended readings and listened to interviews and he seems pretty direct. He says that he writes in part about what he doesn't understand. Every time I encounter something whack I think: Etgar should write about this! So is he writing about suicide which at a fundamental level seems inexplicable? But if so the flip treatment (a family with 3 or 4 suicides?) doesn't really seem to work. Well, artwork is amazing and I still love Etgar Keret!

I wanted this to be better.
Not better in the way that one hopes the movie they are about to view is as good as the book (that rarely happens), and one is disappointed because the only similarity between the two is the title. Hence, one wishes the movie were better.
Rather, this better, more resembles the matter of Gustation vs. Olfaction. Like walking into a restaurant and being attacked with amorous suggestions by the wafting aromas that surround you, only to order, and find that the scents were all a façade... the tastes you receive are bland and too high in salt (a common indication that the food you are about to eat is not rich with flavor is the salt content, that, and a high capacity of old people seated at every table).
A not quite clever, but aptly named pizza shop, Pizzeria Kamikaze is stationed in the afterworld, a sort of purgatory, for those who ended their own life. The story resembles the title in this way, with subtlety that does not tie together, but wants to. Not quite clever enough.
Though the illustrations were attractive, and the idea was a novel one, I just didn't experience the same joy I get from other books in this genre. Satrapi's "Chicken With Plums," was mesmerizing and a little magical. After finishing the story of love, music, and death, I was satisfied into a contemplative silence, if only for a few minutes, that I still regard from time to time.
Perhaps it was the author's intention to create a lackluster story in a stagnant world. Keret's usual tendency of fantastical realism seemed cut down in this one, and it was disappointing to me.
And even though it wasn't too hard, though a bit of a stretch, to believe that Mordy's love interest, as well as his roommate, committed suicide, and were residing near one another by chance, I found myself wondering if Keret had read a lot of Seneca or at least had seen "The Heathers" one too many times, and was trying to reinterpret it.
Alas, it receives two stars from me. I might have given it one, but there is one moment worth mentioning:
A young guy, who is sort of a cult leader in life, is trying to coax those in death into believing that he is a religious guru, a sort of spiritual king of the underworld. As a ceremony, he will kill himself for a second time and, therefore, return to the living world. Unfortunately for him, his theory is flawed, and he knows nothing of the true inner workings. He thrusts a dagger into his abdomen and falls to the ground, from there he proceeds to a described hell.
Due to the easy readability of this book, I would recommend reading it whilst still in the bookstore, it will only take a few minutes, and maybe it will appeal more to others than it did to me.

Di 9 racconti l'unico che mi è rimasto impresso è quello che dà il titolo alla raccolta: i suicidi si svegliano in un post-vita che non si discosta molto dal mondo reale. Uno di loro, che ancora insegue l'amore, trascina una stramba compagnia niente popò di meno che nella villa di Gesù.
Buona l'idea, ma l'esecuzione mi ha lasciata indifferente.

Etgar Keret, Pizzeria Kamikaze (Alternative Comics, 2006)
I'd had this sitting on my list of “stuff I want to get out of the library eventually” for years before I watched Wristcutters: A Love Story. I had somehow never made the connection between the controversial film and this book (which, if I recall correctly, I first heard about through Bookslut long before the movie's release). After seeing the book mentioned in the opening credits, however, I bumped it up to the top of the priority list. And here we are.
Pizzeria Kamikaze is the tale of Mordy, who's currently stuck in the afterlife. Which is kind of like Tel Aviv, only dirtier. He killed himself over a girl, you see. Now he's stuck working in the afterlife pizza parlor mentioned in the title, hanging out with his friend Uzi (bet you can guess how he killed himself). And they do get wild.
What strikes me most about this is that there's so much more Keret could have done with it. He adapted his own story (“Kneller's Happy Campers”) to graphic novel form, and it seems like there was a lot of room for expansion here. We get what we get, though, and I like what we get a good deal. (Especially when you compare the movie's idiotic ending to the real thing, which makes a ton more sense.) Keret knows how to do a lot in very few words, and with the brevity of this, that's a talent that comes in very handy. It's a graphic novel that requires a lot of the reader; there's much to be had between the lines. But for the careful reader, it's a rewarding experience. ****
I'd had this sitting on my list of “stuff I want to get out of the library eventually” for years before I watched Wristcutters: A Love Story. I had somehow never made the connection between the controversial film and this book (which, if I recall correctly, I first heard about through Bookslut long before the movie's release). After seeing the book mentioned in the opening credits, however, I bumped it up to the top of the priority list. And here we are.
Pizzeria Kamikaze is the tale of Mordy, who's currently stuck in the afterlife. Which is kind of like Tel Aviv, only dirtier. He killed himself over a girl, you see. Now he's stuck working in the afterlife pizza parlor mentioned in the title, hanging out with his friend Uzi (bet you can guess how he killed himself). (Breve parere scritto come parte della Reading Challange 2020 del gruppo Il Circolo della Lettura)
Breve aneddoto introduttivo: ho comprato questo libro solamente perchè tra quelli scelti in quella stupenda promozione della Feltrinelli che ti fa avere 2 libri per 9.90€.
Ho fatto caso solo tempo dopo, leggendo sul retro, che uno dei racconti contenuti nel libro aveva ispirato il film Wristcutters (2006), una strampalata commedia indie (vista anni fa solo per la presenza di Tom Waits nel cast) che mi aveva abbastanza divertito.
Ma parlando del libro... è ok.
Tolto "Il Centro Vacanze Di Kneller", racconto da cui il film è tratto che occupa l'intera parte centrale del libro, Pizzeria Kamikaze è una sequela di piccoli racconti di poche pagine pieni di momenti assurdi (Tubi), comicità brillante (Asma) e riflessioni agrodolci (Un Buco Nel Muro), che insieme al suo formato ridotto lo rendono un libro assolutamente estivo e adatto a chi vuole leggere un paio di pagine rilassandosi e senza pretese.
Penso recupererò qualcos'altro dell'autore ma...a suo tempo.

Oto właśnie dziś, w zimową, dżdżystą i ponurą niedzielę, zakochałam się w Etgarze. Te opowiadania mają w sobie wszystko, co uwielbiam w literaturze: przewrotne myśli, prostotę i dosadność przekazu, szalone sytuacje, które tak często sobie wyobrażam, ale nigdy nie przyszło mi do głowy, żeby je spisać i ubrać w hasło "opowiadanie". A Keret to robi. Wymyśla i ubiera. Inspirujące, lekkie, surrealistyczne, doskonałe :).

4.1* - Al langer fan van de kortverhalen van Keret, maar met dit langer kortverhaal / kort verhaal / novelle (kan iemand die gedoctoreerd heeft hier een antwoord op formuleren?) overtuigt hij ook. Droogkomisch, behoorlijk absurd maar toch logisch...En op het einde weet hij deze cynische oude man toch nog te ontroeren. Bravo!
(Boek bestaat ook in het Nederlands, alleen niet volgens Goodreads - Trouwens ook verfilmd als ´The Wrist Cutters´, wat eigenlijk een veel betere titel is, met een bijrol voor Tom Waits. Je moest die film nu al aan het streamen zijn!)

Todo comenzó un jueves que estaba trabajando desde casa, avanzando con mis pendientes. Ese día Agus me dijo: ¿me acompañas? voy a la presentación de un libro de un autor que me recomendaron.
Voy, dije. Y sí... fui.
Comenzamos con el pie izquierdo, no encontraba lugar, ya era tarde y los estacionamientos cierran temprano. Para cuando llegamos y compramos los libros, el autor avisó que llegaría tarde y mientras yo pensaba que el destino nos decía que nos fueramos a casa y no lo vieramos. Yo tenía frío y el lugar estaba extrañamente abarrotado... finalmente Keret llegó.
Creo que no había disfrutado tanto de una presentación.
Comenzó con una anécdota acerca de uno de los cuentos del libro que promocionaba. Fue una anécdota bastante buena que por sí sola funcionaba como historia. Inmediatamente se leyó la historia y la anécdota quedó eclipsada... aunque la mancuerna anécdota-cuento quedó conmigo. Días después todavía podíamos hablar de esa mancuerna y seguía sintiendose fresca, era un cuento bien logrado. Entretenido y con un final inesperado. En unas pocas líneas se armó una historia que pudo haber sido una novela...
Y volviendo a Pizzería... después conseguí este libro. Fué el último que compramos, una semana después y eso porque en la librería original ya no lo vimos. Los cuentos uno tras otro fueron bebidos, tragados y asimilados. Pizzería Kamikaze es genial, en serio estoy considerando buscar el comic ya que la historia por sí sola era genial.
Muy recomendados todos sus libros (aunque apenas he leído uno, pero los siguientes ya me estan esperando).

Unos meses después sigo pensando en la historia que dá título al libro. Vuelvo a ella y se encuentra fresca en mi memoria. Es posible que sea más bien como un pequeño gusano al que inicialmente no le das tanta importancia, pero que con el tiempo va agujereando tu memoria y dejando partes de sí.
Keret es bueno... pero considero que es más bueno después de haber pasado un tiempo de haberlo leído, por el simple hecho de que no me es tan fácil deshacerme de sus historias. Nada de humo y efectos especiales. Historias sencillas que con el tiempo se te quedan.

Pero que librazo acabo de leer. De esos que te vuelan la cabeza con la primera línea. Keret es un autor best seller en Israel; y por esas casualidades hoy vi uno de sus libros en mí liberaría de siempre y me ha instado a leer. Que grata sorpresa, cuando te sientes cabizbajo por encontrarte esas lecturas que te invitan a seguir y seguir, sin tener noción del tiempo, es cuando mejor percibo para qué sirve la literatura. Con un lenguaje mordaz, directo y con relatos sin grandes florituras, genera un ambiente maravilloso, concreto y actual, donde sus personajes transitan en un ficción verosímil en todo momento. Son 4 relatos y una mini novela, que da nombre al libro, que versan sobre la muerte, un paraíso que quizás no existe, un útero que es glorificado por su belleza, un par de amigos que se van turnando la locura. Me recordó lo mejor de la literatura beat y por sobre todo, volver a esos relatos que cuentan algo y entretienen. Un gran descubrimiento de fin de año.

Abres los ojos y lo ves todo gris.” “De cómo me bajaron a la tumba, tan menudo y desamparado, como una tableta de chocolate rancio.” “—Vosotros habéis salido de ahí —dijo mi tío señalándolo—, como unos príncipes vivíais ahí dentro, creedme. ¡Qué madre tenéis, qué madre! Al final mi madre murió, y es que al final todas las madres mueren.” (...)

Sólo tengo una palabra para describir esta colección de relatos: SOBREVALORADA.
No es culpa de Keret si no de todos los hipsters que clasifican como "obra maestra" a todo lo que diga cosas relacionadas con el infierno, las drogas, algunas relaciones de pareja que trascienden la vida y la muerte y personajes con alguna tara o megalomanía.
Sin embargo, en mi decepción sí encontré una obra maestra el relato "Un coctel del infierno" es obra de una inventiva, maestría narrativa y frescura que le podría quitar el aliento a cualquier marrana negra de la novela rosa o a cualquier interesado en los relatos.
No me malinterpreten, un libro "medianamente decente" de Keret es mucho mejor que un "buen libro" de muchos otros autores, pero por un momento imaginé que me encontraría ante una obra magna, algo del nivel de Salman Rushdie (quien terminó de convencerme en la reseña de la contraportada) pero no fue así.
Me llevo una buena impresión de Keret y podría intentar leer algo más, ahora sí sin llegar con una preconcepción.

In this Israeli graphic novel (which was the inspiration for the movie Wristcutters: A Love Story, which I haven’t seen), the main character kills himself only to discover that suicides all go to a separate afterlife that’s not all that different from the world they left behind. The somewhat slight, though full of nice moments and a never overdone atmosphere of melancholy. It reminded me a bit of Kevin Brockmeier’s The Brief History of the Dead. The really stand-out thing here, though, is the art. Done in blacks and greys and swirling, shining lines of silver, it’s gorgeous and captivating and wondrous. It alone makes this worth picking up.

Me gustan los autores que no tienen miedo a definir un mundo casi absurdo de tal manera que el lector lo crea plausible. Me gusta el estilo de Keret, sus historias y sobre todo su forma de acabarlas. La manera de concluir algo, decirlo así directamente, para dar después una pequeña esperanza al lector de que no es un final como tal. Quizás porque la lectura me ha recordado a los relatos de un amigo, el libro me ha gustado más.
Creo que Pizzería Kamikaze es una de esas lecturas que no se pueden recomendar a todo el mundo porque no a todo el mundo van a gustarle. Es un estilo diferente, más que en la forma en el contenido. La edición que he leído incluía otros relatos que tampoco me han dejado indiferente.
