The first such book that Edward Packard wrote in the Choose Your Own Adventure series was titled "Sugarcane Island", but it was not actually published as the first entry in the Choose Your Own Adventure Series. In 1979, the first book to be released in the series was "The Cave of Time", a fantasy time-travel story that remained in print for many years. Eventually, one hundred eighty-four Choose Your Own Adventure books would be published before production on new entries to the series ceased in 1998. Edward Packard was the author of many of these books, though a substantial number of other authors were included as well.
In 2005, Choose Your Own Adventure books once again began to be published, but none of Edward Packard's titles have yet been included among the newly-released books.

جزیره هزارداستان کتابیه که خودت میتونی توش تصمیم گیری کنی و هر تصمیم گیری مسیری متفاوت و در نهایت پایانی متفاوت رو برای شما رقم می زنه
من که بار ها در کتابخون کردن داداشم شکست خورده بودم تونستم با این کتاب کتابخونش کنم :)، خیلییی خوشش اومده و ازم خواسته کتاب های شبیه به این رو براش بخرم

این کتاب رو سال اول یا دوم راهنماییم از نمایشگاه کتاب گرفتم. هنوز هم جزو جالبترین نوع کتابهاییه که خواندم.از یک نقطه کتاب رو شروع میکنی و بعد از خواندن دو-سه صفحه بر اساس انتخابی که میکنی به صفحههای مختلف کتاب و پایانهای مختلف دچار میشی. جوری که مسلماً فقط یک بار پاش نخواهی نشست و کنجکاو میشی که اگر انتخاب دیگری کرده بودی، به چه سرنوشتی دچار میشدی. مثل یک هزارتو؛ که هی سر دوراهی قرار میگیری.

یادمه چهارم ابتدایی که بودم کتابی رو به یکی از همکلاسی هایم قرض دادم و چون جلدش را خراب(پاره) کرده بود ، جهت جبران این کتاب را بهم هدیه داد.
از آن به بعد تا مدتها این کتاب را میخواندم و به خیلی ها دادم تا بخوانندش.
ایده اش بخصوص برای آن زمان عالی بود.
اینکه خودت مسیرت را انتخاب کنی.

چه کتاب جذاب و خوبیه
مخصوصا برای بچهها
اول داستان شما میافتید تو یک جزیره و ادامه داستان به انتخاب تو هست
برای تو هی دو راهی میسازه و تو تصمیم میگیره چه راهی بری و چه صفحهای رو بخونی
به این صورت و با پس و پیش خوندن صفحات چندین داستان داری که آخر بعضیها شاد هست و نجات پیدا کردن آخر بعضیها مرگ و بعضی فانتزی یا خواب و رویا...
با اینکه داستانها بسیار ساده است و هیچ پیچیدگی نداره ولی ایده نویسنده بسی جذاب بود و همین باعث میشه کتاب خوبی باشه

Hätt ich nie gekauft, aber habs aus einem Bücherschrank 😆 den kurzweiligen Spaß wars echt wert. Ich hatte früher auch ein Buch, dass verschiedene Enden hatte, aber kann mich nicht mehr richtig erinnern welches das war.
Kaufen würd ichs jetzt nicht, aber für Kinder ist es eigentlich ein echt nettes und abenteuerliches Geschenk.

درست سوم دبستان بودم که رفته بودم کانون پرورش فکری۱۵ اونجا مدیر کانون به من و دوتا از دوستام گفت از بین این چند تا کتاب یکش رو به عنوان هدیه با انتخاب خودتون بهتون میدم.
من این کتاب رو انتخاب کردم واقعا کتاب جالبی بود.
اینکه خودت سرنوشتت رو می سازی و برای نجات جونت تصمیم گیری میکنی خیلی هیجان انگیزه.
هی سر دو راهی میموندم و این خودم بودم که سرنوشتم رو میساختم،درست مثل زندگی

یادمه وقتی اینو دوستم قرض داد که بخونم خیلی ازش خوشم اومده بود . کتاب خیلی جالبی بود. در اصل به یه جزیره میرسی و حالا باید خودت انتخاب کنی که چجوری داستان رو پیش ببری و داستان پایان بندی متفاوت داره برای هر تصمیم . باعث شد چندین و چند بار کتابو بخونم و هنوزم همه حالتاشو ندیده باشم :)

فکر کنم سوم ابتدایی بودم که این کتاب رو از کانون پرورش فکری امانت گرفتم.... بارها و بارها خوندمش و ازش لذت بردم.

Stylistically, it's easy to tell Sugarcane Island was, as mentioned in the introduction to later editions of the book, one of the first gamebooks ever published. The sentences are short and primitively constructed in comparison to later Choose Your Own Adventure stories, and decisions come at the reader quickly, almost on every page. With thirty-nine endings and only one hundred eighteen pages, many of which are taken up entirely by illustrations, it's difficult to imagine how a long, internally cohesive story could have been written even if the author had been determined to try. It's easy to understand, then, why the action in Sugarcane Island can feel somewhat herky-jerky, with lots of starts and stops and numerous scenarios that feel quite similar to each other but actually follow totally different story paths.
Despite the fact that Edward Packard was clearly still feeling his way as a gamebook author when he penned Sugarcane Island, as an innovative experiment in literary style there's plenty of fun to be had with this book. You are the primary assistant to a renowned scientist coordinating his observations of turtles in the Galápagos Islands when a sudden tidal wave washes you overboard your sea vessel. You were lucky enough to survive the monster wave and the raw kinetic power it unleashed on you, but when you awaken on what appears to be a deserted island, you're not sure what sort of luck your new whereabouts suggests. Are you the only living creature on this island, or is it inhabited by animals? If so, are they animals likely to do you harm if you run up against them in the wild without a weapon? Or could there even be other people living on this island? And if there are, what type of person are you likely to encounter on the shores of an isolated island somewhere near the Galápagos? Could there actually be natives out there in the island jungles who would panic at the sight of a stranger, and try to kill him? Are you better off actively seeking other human inhabitants of your new home, or hiding in the depths of the jungle where no one can find you?
You'll come upon many bizarre scenes on Sugarcane Island. People who might seem obviously untrustworthy could turn out to be the best friends you've ever had, and possessed of the knowledge to save your life and lead you off this island back to your home. Creatures of supernatural wonder and magic might let you down at the drop of a hat, even at cost of your life. Implied contact even with what might be the legendary Cave of Time could turn out to be good or bad, and can certainly lead you around in circles if you let it. Ultimately, though, while trying to do the right thing in any given situation may not immediately guide you back to the welcome embrace of society, leaning in that direction consistently will eventually get you off Sugarcane Island more often than it kills you. Edward Packard tends to reward virtue—and sometimes even a decided lack of it on your part—and I guess that's how life goes, a mix of kindnesses rewarded and a lot of random results tossed in as well. But if you want to make it off Sugarcane Island, your best chance is to do right by others as well as yourself. That mindset won't you lead astray too often.
Sugarcane Island isn't Edward Packard at his scintillating best as a writer, in such gamebook gems as The Cave of Time, Deadwood City, Invaders from Within, Who Are You? and War with the Mutant Spider Ants, but it provides some fun moments along the way. What I like best about the book is how You can fall into seemingly the same situation a number of times, but always be faced with a different set of choices and a different adventure to take. Because of that, Sugarcane Island is probably a good candidate for rereading many times, as the sheer number of choices make it hard to memorize an exact path to success. For anyone who loves gamebooks, and the Choose Your Own Adventure series in particular, reading Sugarcane Island at least once is practically a must.

عاشق ایده ی این کتابم.
میتونید بارها و بارها اون رو بخونید و برای ادامه ی داستان تصمیم بگیرید.
نمونه های دیگه ای هم داره (مثل شاهزاده ایرانی) ولی واقعا اصلا به این کتاب نمیرسن.
به نظرم بعضی داستان ها و مسیرها خیلی کوتاهن و جای کار دارن ولی ایده ی این کناب اونقد بامزه س که نتونستم بهش ۵ ستاره ندم :)
میتونید بارها و بارها اون رو بخونید و برای ادامه ی داستان تصمیم بگیرید.

Estás a bordo de un barco hacía las islas galápagos en una expedición de estudio de las tortuga, pues te han invitado a que acompañes a un reputado doctor especializado. Pero de pronto hay una especie de maremoto y sales disparado de la embarcación. Estás en tierra y solo, no hay resto de los demás ¿qué harás a partir de ahora? ¿podrás ser rescatado y / o lograr sobrevivir?
Éste volumen tardío de la famosa serie de aventuras, bien podría resumirse cómo una mezcla de “Supervivencia en la montaña” y “Naufragio” del mismo autor, pero con un tono más infantil y algo más escueto tanto a nivel de desarrollo como de texto; o sea de cara al grano y sin tantos rodeos (en parte, debido a su elevado número de soluciones y pocas páginas en global). No obstante, conserva la esencia del mejor Packard, adictivo, fácil y diverso de leer, con numerosas aventuras clásicas a las que podemos hacer frente: el hambre y la sed, la elección de caminos más o menos escarpados, encuentros con tribus de la zona, con animales y robinsones ermitaños y aparentemente locos, Piratas o tesoros ocultos, entre otros.
Un aspecto concreto a destacar del volumen, es su lógica en elección, en general, (Packard siempre nos guarda unas cuantas sorpresillas y giros desagradable, marca de la casa) para la consecución satisfactoria de la resolución de aventuras ( basado en el ABC de supervivencia).
Así pues, un volumen repleto de aventuras y que pese a no irse con rodeos, tiene un desarrollo narrativo efectivo, lógico y vivaz , con el que podréis probar la esencia del autor o revivir nostálgicamente pinceladas de sus mayores virtudes, aunque sin llegar a la excelente ‘supervivencia en la montaña’ o prolongada y excitante ‘Naufragio’

Da werden Kindheitserinnerungen wach. Ich liebe es, Bücher/Geschichten in die Hand zu nehmen, die mich an früher erinnern. Zu meiner Überraschung bin ich gar nicht so oft gestorben, wie ich es von damals in Erinenrung hatte :D

This is probably the first of the Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books ever released, although it didn't officially grace that series until book 62. Previously it had been released under the "Adventures of You" series before CYOA became a thing.
Sugarcane island is somewhat sensibly-structured for a CYOA book (which are usually all over the place, story and location-wise). You end up waking up on this island after being washed off a ship by a wave, and you can begin wandering about looking for food, water and people.
To a somewhat abbreviated extent, it does feel like wandering about an island. Unlike many CYOA books, the island will stay mostly consistent without constantly changing depending on your decisions. For example, the native tribe will always be there; the port village stays in pretty much the same place; You can actually loop around and start again on the beach where you first began, and you will often pass by the sugarcane plants for a quick nibble. Its not a massive adventure by any means, but I quite enjoyed the feeling of wandering about the island trying to stay alive.
Overall the book doesn't have much of a plot as you just end up on an island and run about checking stuff out until you either escape or perish. Most endings are actually good ones with you managing to get off the island in different ways, but there are a few unfortunate deaths that can take place if careless.
Not a bad CYOA considering its age.
People might be wondering (as I often do with all CYOA books), does this one have you encountering aliens? Well kind of; there is one event that happens in the game which isn't fully explained that may have involved an alien space ship. You can't escape close encounters in CYOA books no matter how hard you try!

Das ist eines der Spielbücher von Edward Packard.
Es ist mein erstes Spielbuch das ich gelesen habe und ich muss sagen das ich es irgendwie mag. Es ist mal was ganz anderes und anders als erwartet, muss man sich wirklich genau reinversetzen und gut überlegen was für Entscheidungen man trifft. Einfach ist es nicht wirklich. Die Story an sich ist jetzt zwar nicht der absolute Brüller aber für einmal mal etwas Spaß zu haben war dieses Buch wirklich sehr gut.
Obwohl ich in der Story gefangen genommen wurde, habe ich beim zweiten Mal lesen überlebt. LOL... das erste Mal ging ich Gnadenlos drauf.

وای! این کتاب رو وقتی 10 سالم بود روی یکی از قفسه های کانون پرورش فکری دیدم، ولی چون دوتا کتاب اون هفته رو گرفته بودم مجبور شدم دو ساعت و نیم همون جا بمونم و هی این کتاب رو خوندم، بعدشم دو بار دیگه امانت گرفتم، در حدی که کل مسیرها و نتیجه اشون رو حفظ بودم.
.فکر میکردم الان اگه غرق شم و تو یه جزیره ی دور افتاده بیدار شم، حتی اگه کل جزیره آدم خوارم باشن، من زنده میمونم 😍😍😭

Eine nette kurzweilige Geschichte für zwischendurch, die sich relativ schnell lesen lässt. Sie kam mir nicht wie etwas wirklich besonderes vor, abgesehen davon, dass man selbst entscheidet, an welcher Stelle man weiterliest, aber war solide geschrieben (einzige Ausnahme war Seite 106, auf der bei mir irgendwas zu fehlen scheint, aber das kann auch nur an meiner Ausgabe liegen), und für Kinder ist es bestimmt ein ziemlich cooles eigenes Abenteuer.

من خیلی این ایده رو که کتابی این شکلی نوشته شه رو دوست داشتم ولی خب ای کاش یه ذره منطق چیزی که ادم باید از عملکردش توی کتاب یاد می گرفت روشن تر بود

این کتاب را نمی توانی مثل کتاب های دیگر از اول تا آخر و به ترتیب شماره صفحات بخوانی!
"تو در یک جزیره ی دورافتاده گرفتار شده ای و باید دنبال راهی برای نجات بگردی پا گذاشتن در هر راه ماجرای متفاوتی را برایت شکل می دهد در هر ماجرا هم به دوراهی هایی می رسی که حرکت در هر کدام سرنوشت تو را تغییر میدهد.
درست مثل خود زندگی که تغییر جهت در هر گام می تواند سرنوشت تو را شکل دیگری بدهد
این کتاب را می توانی بارها و بارها بخوانی و هربار داستان تازه ای در آن پیدا کنی
داستانی که انتهایش به انتخاب تو بستگی دارد درست مثل زندگی... "
با خواندن این کتاب، خواننده می تواند قدرت تصمیم گیری، انتخاب و مسئولیت پذیری خود را بسنجد و نتیجه کار خود را ببیند.

خیلی جذاب و هیجان انگیز بود. با انتخاب خواننده میتونه هیچوقت تکراری نشه. دبستان که بودم هر دفعه از کانون میگرفتمش ، چون هر دفعه داستانای جدیدی میساختم.

I'll be honest; the 4 star rating is more in recognition of the book's place in history than any indication of quality. Way back in 1976, this book was the first written that eventually led to him and his publisher Raymond A. Montgomery, Jr. to get Bantam to approve the Choose Your Own Adventure series. (The particular edition I read was the Which Way Book series, in which it's number 6, and illustrated by Barbara Carter.)
The plot is simple: you are on your way to the Galapagos Islands with the brilliantly named Dr. Frisbee ("He knows everything about turtles"), but a storm leaves you a castaway on Sugarcane Island, a name perhaps poorly chosen as an indicator of death-defying adventure. Beyond that, the plot is pretty basic, with the reader making a choice pretty much every page. The number of choices is actually pretty large (much more so than the later books in the series) and while there are some loops, there's almost no merging of paths--of the book's 105 entries, fully 39 are endings; that's a very high number for a CYOA. Consequently, a read-through is short, but there are a lot of different outcomes.
The plot has some CYOA signatures, including out of nowhere switches to science fiction, "it's all a dream" endings, and some "so bad it's good" writing--the sometimes-rhyming pirate was a personal favorite. It's also got some less welcome signatures, such as a rather stereotypical and negative depiction of the island's native population; in one path, you convince them you have magical powers through your amazing ability to read.
In itself, neither the story nor the design is really all that interesting; that (minus looping) you're guaranteed an ending within six choices suggests a lack of depth. But if you grew up with these books like I did, you might have some nostalgic fondness for its awkwardness.

"Once you step on this island, you will leave it again eventually", the old man answered thoughtfully.
Originally titled Sugarcane Island, this has a reputation for being basically the first book of its kind. Edward Packard invented or at least popularized this well-known form of a Choose Your Own Adventure book and Sugarcane Island seemed to have been the first one he wrote that was to be published.
Because of that, this book is interesting as a sort-of historical first for this sub-genre of childrens' writing but ultimately doesn't really live up to the ones that followed in its footsteps. While these books are essentially a collection of very brief story fragments by nature anyway, some of the later books developed into telling interesting and a bit more in-depth stories, making for more engaging decision-making. Sugarcane Island however really is an early bird that way with its super brief chapters, many pages really only making up a sentence or two, very jumpy story elements that feel more like a shuffle button than a coherent story, and not too much of a red thread aside from the initial set-up of being stranded on an island.
It's not a terrible book of its kind, but with how many there came after it, even from Packard himself, you could choose a much more interesting CYOA book instead.

اکثر کتابهایی رو که دوران ابتداییم خوندم فراموش کردم ولی هنوز وقتی به این کتاب فکر میکنم بوی ساحل و نارگیل و شن و ماسه رو حس میکنم. یادم میاد که چطور همیشه سرنوشتم نیزهای توی پشتم میشد. دیگه نمیخونمش چون میترسم تصورم خراب بشه ولی بهخاطر همون هیجانزدگیهایی که بهخاطرش داشتم لایق نمرهی کامله

I read it so many times that I knew just how to get both the diamond and the buried treasure. How did I put this together? Well I read it backwards, wrote down the path, then retraced it, like any kid would do. Plus it inspired a personal, lifelong motif of sea turtles.
