Pea, Bee, & Jay #5

Gotta Find Gramps

Has anybody seen Gramps?! Pea, Bee, & Jay are on the search in Pea, Bee, & Jay: Gotta Find Gramps, an early graphic novel series by Brian "Smitty" Smith, perfect for fans of Narwhal & Jelly, emerging readers, and comic lovers alike!

When Pea, Bee, & Jay hear stories of Gramps's youth, they find each yarn to be wilder than the last. He once had a pet dog, was a professional wrestling champ, and he even led a jailbreak out of a can of peas. Un-pea-lievable!

But when Gramps goes missing, it's up to the trio to bring him home. Will they find the kernel of truth in Gramps's tall tales and reunite him with his family?

Colonel Cob vs. Kid Citrus. Yep, it's the best of baloney wrestling on the farm. While watching the match Pea, Bea, and Jay don their own wrestling masks and become Green Lightning, Firebird, and The Beekeeper. Those masks will come in handy later when they help Gramps (Hercu-peas) fight an old nemesis --The Juggernut and the Grape Gang. There are some hilarious fake wrestling bits in this one. Kid Citrus slams into Colonel Cob from the top rope releasing all the kernels. Is the Colonel done after that SHA-BAP? Nope! He sends all the kernels after the Kid. That's just a bit of the fun inside this one. I loved it!

Pea, Bee, & Jay set out on another adventure....

✏️ Review ✏️

Yes, even though this series is specifically marketed to middle grade readers and younger, I still find the continuing adventures of Pea, Bee, & Jay to be enjoyable and fun to read. Gotta Find Gramps is another humorous addition to the series. While readers will clearly observe that the plots are simplistic, these graphic novels nonetheless make quick entertaining reads for on-the-go or don't-have-a-lot-of-time-to-read situations.

📊 A Quick Overview 📊

👍🏼 What I Liked:
• The three MCs — a complimentary trio of characters.
• The illustrations — pretty colorful and expressive.
• Most of the plot — it's enjoyable and easy to follow.

👎🏼 What I Did Not Like:
• (Can't think of anything atm.)

I wish Jay wasn't as naïve as they are in this book, and Bee had some issues for me as well. But still a fun, early read/graphic novel.

2 stars (it was okay)

Definitely not as good as the earlier books in the series. That could be because this is heavily wrestling themed (like the fake wrestling) and I didn't care for that.

There were still a lot of puns but they were a bit more forced.

This is nitpicky, but alas- that is who I am... we know that limes are sentient in this universe because one of the wrestlers is a lime. Yet, the honey snaps are selling honey lemonade. Does that mean they murdered a lemon?!? Also, when Gramps is stuck in the can with the carrots (super weird to think about anyway), the carrots are cut into cubes yet they are still alive.

The whole personified food aspect of this series is getting weird.

I love the cute characters--a bee, a pea, and a bird--makes the catchy title. These three friends go on adventures, and this book is about the pea's gramps used to be a wrestling champion in his day but was cheated out of the belt, so gramps goes on a mission to retrieve it!

Eh!? Not my favorite of the series. This one was pretty cheesy with silly one-liners and bad jokes. I did like this series, as a whole, and I would definitely read more volumes, if there are more to be published.

Cute! I haven't read any of the series before but it's not a series where you need to read in order.

Gramps goes missing after the gang has been watching wrestling. I loved the wrestling outfits for all the characters. The gags are always so funny in these books!

The book was funny and has lots of Pea,Bee & Jay adventure’s together. When Gramps has gone missing it gets funnier.

It was cute. It just didn't hold my attention because there is a wrestling theme in this one and I'm not a fan of it. It was nice to get more back story for Gramps.
