The first formal school dance is coming up and Beth and Chanda are on a mission to find the best dresses, the best dates, and have the best night ever! I love the authenticity in the girls' friendship, their honest struggles within themselves and with their families, and the flair with which they navigate jr high. This middle grades graphic novel tackles representation and diversity in a natural way. Chanda and Beth are "Besties" I wish I could be besties with as well! -- Diana F.

Kayla Miller has built a solid, expanding franchise around well-executed middle school life lessons. Here the BFFs deal with the little dramas that come with a school dance: dress and dates. Friction builds when Chanda wants everything to be perfect, while Beth just wants to have fun . . . and both are dealing with some bothersome sisters.

Gentle, reasonable, and nice.

3.5⭐

I'm a huge fan of Kayla Miller's work such as the Click series and gave Besties: Work It Out 5 stars, but unfortunately didn't love this sequel as much even though I enjoyed it overall.

While the characters are well-developed and go through the usual epiphanies, I found Chanda annoying despite her eventual growth. That said, I could understand her fixation with seeking perfection especially next to her sister. I'm not big on dances so that might have contributed to me feeling meh about the plot overall too.

Nevertheless, this graphic novel does have plenty of merits: Great representation, Chanda embracing her heritage, Beth dealing with body image issues, how it tackles difficult topics and real-life issues, heartwarming family scenes and more. I also loved the cameos of Olive and Willow. And as always, the artwork and colours do not disappoint.

Overall, this was still a fun and engaging read that I would recommend. Can't wait for what's next from the author and her A-team!

Great book 2 in the Besties series (which is sooo much better than the World of Click!)

These girls have heart ❤️! Love the authenticity in their friendship, their struggles within themselves and with their families, and how they navigate jr high - and particularly in this book, their first school dance!

When's book 3 coming out?!?!

This book was a great book. I liked this book because I love fashion and I like how they worked together to get it done in time. They went to the dance and had so much fun.

This was another great graphic novel! School dances are such an exciting time for middle school students. But there are so many things to factor into going to a dance, especially for girls. But the one thing that is stressful for everyone is getting a date to dance. Do you really need a date? It depends on who you ask.

This was a really fun graphic novel to read that was perfectly on point for middle school readers of today. I would recommend this story to the tweens and young teens and the older readers of the Click series. I think they will get more out of the lessons the girls learn. I think they will also understand concerns about Beth's lack of self confidence and the social pressures around her that made Beth feel that way. And Chanda's struggle with trying to be and make everything perfect. As Chanda is on her mission/warpath to making their first formal dance a perfect night with every little thing perfect as well, she harms the friendships around her.

I really liked the talk between Chanda and her older sister Amaya. While the synopsis for this book says Beth and Chanda will need to lean on their friendship more than ever to end up going to and having a good time at the dance; the girls also receive a lot of support from their older sisters and their mothers. In fact, if it wasn't for their mothers, the girls wouldn't have had anything to wear.

I also really liked the how Chanda ended up having a perfect moment at the dance. I was so excited for her and I can't wait for the next besties graphic novel.

Also a really funny part was at the very end, after the dance. I think Sam may have become an instagram boyfriend! I love it!

Super cute, super fun; I really like the Click series, and this spin-off series is maybe even better! In Find Their Groove, Beth and Chanda get to deal with the stress of their first semi-formal dance: finding the right dress, and (even scarier!) finding dates! It was a relatable, wholesome story. I like the way the girls support each other; in the last book it felt like they got into a fight for the sake of there being a conflict, but things seemed to flow more naturally in this one. Heck, even the font used didn't bother me as much this time!

Can't wait for more from this wonderful series!!

Beth and Chanda are excited for their first school dance, but now the pressure is on. They need to find dresses and dates ASAP! Will this be the best day ever, or is it going to drive them insane?

There are some great messages in this story about body image, perfectionistic tendencies, unrealistic expectations, treating others with value, and unintended competition with siblings. An important one for kids navigating the minefield that is middle school, especially those with perfectionistic tendencies.

Notes on content: No language issues. No sexual content. Some disrespectful and unkind comments are made, but they are addressed well. The body image and perfectionism topics are also dealt with well.

Chanda had some issues!! But she came around and stopped being a jerk to everyone. Really loved Beth.
My library only had this one but I hope they get more Chanda and Beth books. I enjoyed watching them navigate their first dance.

Another great addition to the series. This one felt more dramatic than the first volume and still had its differences from the original series of the Click graphic novels. But I still enjoyed! Chanda got on my nerves in this story and while it all made sense in the end why she was feeling this way, I think it could have been better translated in the early story, rather than just revealed at the end.
Both Beth and Chanda dealt with very realistic problems for girls their age, which took me back to my early-teen years.
I love the relationship between Beth and Lisa - the ultimate sibling goals!
It seemed the creators had more of a grasp of the world in this second volume, which was confirmed in the post-text of the story.
I’m excited to read what comes next in this series.

So recently I read through Kayla Miller's Click series which I really loved, so of course I wanted to read their latest spinoff series Besties. I absolutely adored the first installment but THIS ONE. Wow. It truly had everything. This is such a great new series that really tackles middle school issues in a way that you don't normally see. For me, the most compelling was the story arc of Beth's body image issues. It is not often you see these issues addressed in books for this age group, but this handled the situation beautifully in a relatable and encouraging way without the unbearable bullying plotlines you see a lot (Stargirl comes to mind - though it's an excellent book, it can be extremely triggering). I hate this word normally, but this series feels important. Adorable, funny, uplifting. It's all here.

Another great addition to the world of Click. As always, I enjoy the artwork and the characters, and how the two series intersect without overlapping. This one touches on some other aspects of friendship as well as body positivity, although there were also a bunch of other smaller life lessons that emerged as the book progressed. There was less focus on the pet sitting business, which is good because we kind of did that in the first book, but it was still there tying some aspects of the story together.

Chanda was a bit hard to take as she kind of steamrollered over everyone and pulled some hissy fits, but in the end, she figured out that what she was doing wasn't right and atoned for her mistakes. And Beth was generally likeable. I so wanted to fight for her for the clothing thing, because I know many who are not able to find their size on the racks and it's frankly hurtful especially when finding something is for such a momentous occasion. The book didn't gloss anything over, but it treated situations with real sensitivity and awareness of what most are going through and how those things can often be happening in small ways rather than big impactful ones.

All in all, a great book. Can be read solo, but definitely benefits from the context of the books in this and the other series being read before.

A school dance is the perfect chance for the besties to find their groove. But the girls have nothing to wear.
Meanwhile, Chanda’s perfect older sister has come to visit and she wasn’t happy. That’s not the worst part though. The worst part was having to find dates. Dates?! Can Beth and Chanda find the perfect dresses and the perfect dates to have that perfect night?

Hilarious watching the girls go boy-hunting. Chanda’s too busy going for the perfect everything while Beth just wanted to have fun. But when Beth ends up getting a date instead of Chanda, Chanda’s whole world comes crashing down. When Chanda “accelerates” things, she approaches the boys like a crazed fanatic, scaring the poor things out of their pants. So funny!

WHAT’S A GIRL HAVE TO DO TO GET A DATE!!!!

I enjoyed the cool graphics and the witty commentaries. Loved the exaggerated poses and expressions. So funny and relatable!

It takes a while, but, in the end, the girls realize that they don’t need to be perfect. Just smart, strong, brave, beautiful girls.

An awesome read about being who you are and loving it. Girls jut wanna have fun.

This second adventure of Besties, it's all about the upcoming dance at school. For best friends Beth and Chanda, it's their moment to shine with pretty dresses and cool dance moves. What they didn't think of was having a date for the dance. So, Chanda begins her search for the perfect date while dealing with her older sister's wedding. Being insecure about finding that sweet dress has made Beth sad, but she meets Sam, who asks her to dance. Can Chanda and Beth find that breathtaking dress in time for the big day?
With an adorable friendship and moments of pure fun, Beth and Chanda are just two middle school girls who want to stand out at the dance. Bollywood dresses inspire Chanda, and Beth can't find the dress she feels comfortable in. With a little sister and mother magic, both girls find the perfect outfit, all in time for the dance. From mistakes, boys, and family drama, these two best friends have a lot to do until the big day.

My favourite of the two series so far! A perfectly packaged story arc, but also so much stuff I never see in other books. Loved that as Kristina the illustrator says in the back Beth never had a bully or someone saying something negative to her about her body shape, but other things bring her down and make her feel like she should feel bad about herself. So carefully handled and so realistic. Sometimes when a book has a lesson about marginalized people it is for others so they learn empathy and not to bully, but this one was just being relatable and having a lesson in defiant self esteem in a world that tells you you’re no good. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that in a book with a fat character. As always, we are spared anything too didactic—even the point blank lessons are part of sincere relationship building moments that feel genuine and natural. Highly recommend this series for ages 9-12.

Stylish and spunky bff duo Beth and Chanda navigate one of the most memorable events of their lives: their first school dance and all the stresses that come along with it. Dates and dresses are their main concerns, but they both find that it goes much deeper than that.

Sweet, refreshing, and filled with so much heart—not only did I laugh out loud a few times, but I teared up quite a bit too. You’ll root for Beth and Chanda as their friendship is tested time and time again, making their way through their own personal journeys.

And gosh, the illustrations are so vibrant and joyful!

Plus, I was so happy to see another fun fashion montage in this one, as well as a few familiar faces (and dogs!) from the first book.

I really enjoyed this sequel to Besties Work it Out!

This was definitely a better book than the first one. I loved how they explored various topics like representation, the stress of applying to colleges, the pressure put on siblings, the desire to fit in, worrying about what society says you should look like etc

It was so nice to see them watch a Bollywood movie and for Chanda to want to wear desi clothes! Love that this book has a brown female MC and love that Beth is also a plus sized girl.

I loved the discussions had in the book as it was still light and fun but also had some really emotional moments and it’s great as kids can definitely relate!

Looking forward to the next instalment!

I REAAAAAALLLLLLY love that this dove deep into the ideas of perfectionism and body image and how sometimes our own issues can bleed so heavily into other aspects of our lives. Chanda is so obsessed with perfection that she doesn’t realize how wildly insensitive she is towards literally everyone. Beth is so worried about finding a dress that fits that she doesn’t think she should get to experience the dance at all. It’s such a deeply relevant and also resonant story on so many levels.

God, I love the Click universe!

I’m loving this series even more! I especially appreciate the body positivity and seeing the struggle Beth goes through finding dresses that fit her body type. I dealt with that when I was younger, trying to find dresses that would fit and look good on me for dances when I had a bigger body than most teenagers. I appreciated Chandra’s struggle to get along with her sister (who she sees as perfect) and dressing very differently that typical teenagers do. I loved that Chandra realizes she hurt Beth’s feelings and apologizes. Loved this one! I can’t wait for more.

A fast read. Another great addition to the Click series. It's hard sometimes living up to what you think are your family's expectations of you are but even harder when you put all that pressure on yourself.
Beth and Chandra are best friends getting ready for their first school dance. But Chandra wants everything to be perfect. Beth, on the other hand, just wants to enjoy it. With these two best friends not seeing eye to eye, they begin to bicker. At the end of the day, they are best friends and will learn to make the best out of any situation.

I definitely enjoyed reading this sequel in the World of Click series. It dealt with more middle school challenges that many kids face and it felt like a real story. Chanda is a little excessive with wanting everything perfect and Beth just wants to be sweet Beth and have fun without all of the stress. In the end it works out and they resolve their issues and they enjoy their first school formal together. I haven't read any of the Click books yet so I am excited to check them out and see the stories of some of the other characters.

I’ve read all the books in both the Click and Besties series and this one brought me to tears. As an adult and seeing myself in the situations Beth and Chanda are in resonates so much with how I feel looking back at my time in middle school I can only image how kids today reading this feel.

As both the Click and Besties series move on I love seeing how the conflicts in the stories become more about world view rather than the local drama.

From the author of Click, Camp, Act...Besties Find Their Groove is another wonderful inclusive graphic novel that shows some of the real-world ups/downs of middle grades/YA life. With good messaging on friendship and unrealistic goals, we can get caught up in those confusing years. A dance, dresses, dates, friendship, popularity, and being true to yourself...
