Like the other Arboretti books, there is a delicious mix of romance, suspense and a non-typical historical setting that just knocked my socks off. While I liked her contemporary suspense, too, I really wish she would have continued in both genres, instead of switching to YA.

And I was really irritated when the publisher chintzed and shifted from hardcovers to the dual paperback of her books.

I got the audiobook and it was brilliant. The male narrator is exceptional and the story is wholly addictive. The female protagonist Tuesday by name is witty, vulnerable and smart. An able adversary to the Queens head spy Laurence. They put their wits against a mysterious killer who is obsessed with Tuesday and it keeps you guessing right to the end. They are loveable characters whom it is easy to become invested in and this is an excellent read.

This book was just plain bad. I almost gave it 1 star but I did find myself laughing and being awed at times. But this was just poorly written in so many ways. I never thought it was possible to be one of the best female detective in 1500s. Historically, that would never be true. Especially people around those times, people would just not be okay with a woman detective, moreover, hire her.

Typical romance novel, set in historical England. It has a few interesting plot twists, some suspense, and fun character developments. Sometimes the heroines made me angry, but I feel that way in general toward most women in romance novels.

Okay, I admit it: I read this because I went to middle school with the author! And I think she has one of the most awesome careers (and not a common one for Harvard literature Ph.Ds!)...but I can't say that I liked this book. I tried, but I couldn't finish it.
