2022 bk 179. More a short story than a novella - the fans of the Vampire Book Club at last learn the details of why Quinn was sent to Ireland. I enjoyed the story as it answered the questions I had early on in the series.
This was a really great blending of urban fantasy* and murder mystery with just enough humour to lighten the inevitable darkness of...you know, a murder, not to mention an actual showdown with minions of Death personified.
This would be 4 stars bordering on 5, but I had to reduce it as the ending had a feature that's sort of a pet hate with me, but different things bother different people - the rest of the story was really great and I'm jumping straight into the next book in the series.
---- * I've never liked the term "Urban Fantasy" as a term reffering to magic stuff happening in a modern(ish) setting. Half the stories happen in the countryside! I prefer "Paranormal Fantasy" myself, but I use the term most people understand. ---- Final gripe: They put "Women's Fiction" in the title. Why try and put off half the population of the planet? If you are male and like mysteries, urban fantasy and a dose of humour - why should you be discouraged from reading this book because of your gender? I understand this is a marketing thing and more females than males may well enjoy this kind of thing, but I'm very much against gendering stuff as a male who played with dolls as a child, loves cooking, can sew and isn't really into sport - how does what I've got in my underwear have anything to do with enjoying a book about magic and murder? Don't judge.
Quinn's ex is dying of cancer and she casts a spell to send it into remission. He ends up dying anyhow which results in a guy appearing to her at her place with a briefcase.
He's a debt collector. But not a money collector. He's to collect from anyhow who has violated the rules about interfering with Death. The price? Her death.
She talks to her coven leader to see what can be done. There's a murder and she has to deal with a guy who uses a sword. She's rescued but there's still a price to pay.
An unusual take on the Vampire Knitting Club series and it'll be interesting to see where it goes from her. As usual the characters are done well and the story stays interesting throughout.
whether it’s knitting or book clubs - I am all in with the vampires
To me, the world that Quinn and the knitters in the other series exist in makes me wish that I had an alt universe. The stories are well written. The mysteries are fun and the characters are extremely enjoyable. I think I’ve read just about every book in the series and wish that she was writing them a lot faster. Too many books in the genre try to be too hot, too sexually graphic. The series have enough love interest to keep you satisfied, but you don’t have to be a voyeur at the same time.
One wrong choice, and Quinn finds herself in Death’s bad books. To make it worse, a member of her book club drops dead, and Quinn is convinced she was murdered.
A quick short to introduce the Vampire Book Club, set in Nancy Warren’s vampiric club world. It’s a quick read, setting up Quinn’s crime, and her punishment. Although it’s a short story, it is a complete murder mystery, with answers, and so can be read easily as a standalone- and if you’re in need of a short read, and love cosy paranormal mysteries, then this is an excellent pick!
A wonderful novella to take us back to the beginning of the Vampire Book Club to show us how Quinn ended up in Ireland. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and it was wonderful to fill in a few details and give us another bit of insight into Quinn's sleuthing abilities with a murder to solve right quick! While you can enjoy the series without reading this novella, you will be missing out on another wonderfully crafted story by this author!
I admit to being a bit leery of starting the Vampire Book Club series as 1) I adored the Vampire Knitting Club series and 2) I wasn't so keen on The Great Witches Baking Show, but I needn't have worried. Crossing the Lines is a fantastic start to the Vampire Book Club series and I confess to nearly squealing when Lochlan Balfour (from the Knitting Club series) turned up!! I can't wait to read the Vampire Book Club series!
Bleeding Between the Lines by Nancy Warren Vampire Book Club Series Prequel This short novella is about how Quinn Callahan messed up while living in Seattle and was banished to a small town in Ireland. In the first book of the series, a few pieces of the story is mentioned, but this adds more details. Just a short story, but plenty is going on. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
The mystery itself was wrapped up extremely quickly, but it was good to find out why Quinn was banished to Ireland. It did feel a bit random to meet one character (name excluded to avoid spoilers), as it added nothing to the future stories in this series, but I guess it adds mystery to their relationship. In general, this is a good prequel, which isn't essential to the main story but a fun extra.
Witch Quinn Callaghan makes a choice for an outcome she wants and finds herself in a battle with Death himself. Her life is about to change completely, but it's not entirely bad— a handsome vampire named Lochlan Balfour will keep things interesting.
Well, even though I don't require it, this short story cleared up a few questions I had about Quinn's and Lochlan's beginnings. Plus it gave a broader story about what Quinn had done to incur Death's wrath and how. I am very impressed with this author's imagination and plan to read as many of her writings as possible. Yes, I definitely recommend this book.
I love Nancy Warren's books and the universes she creates, particularly when characters appear in series other than their own. But this prequel fell short for me. We didn't learn anything new about the MC, and since when can Lochlan Balfour erase memories? That's never been mentioned as a gift of vampires.

Having just thoroughly enjoyed the vampire knitting club, of which I read all 14 books one after another they were so good, l thought this series should be my next read. This prequel has definitely set the scene for a fantastic read. I can’t recommend Nancy’s books high enough! Unputdownable!!!
So. Much. Fun. Although I already have read the other books in this series, it was interesting to read the back story. And, if you have not had the pleasure of reading Ms. Warren’s book club series and knitting club series and baking series, lucky you…so many treats await!
I enjoyed this prequel to the Vampire Book Club series. Quinn meets Lochlan Balfour before she is sent to Ireland to run the bookstore in Ballydehag. This is a cute short read that introduces you to Quinn Callahan, the main character in the Vampire Book Club series.
This author has a gift of imagination and storytelling. I've read several of her very enjoyable series, and I recommend them to all cozy readers. I'm looking forward to whatever is next for these new to me characters.
Twenty words to let you know I liked the book. It was nice to see the beginning, but sad too. I want another Vampire book club book its about time however this filled a tiny space.
I had not read this before the other 3 I am not disappointed thou. It was a wonderful read. Short but explained a lot about how she was banished. I encourage everyone to read it even if you have read the others already.
We get to find out how the heroine is sent to Ireland. And we get a peak at her life in the USA before she goes. There is also a short murder mystery solved in this book. But the best thing was how she met Balfour. I love Balfour.
A quick taste of Nancy Warren's style. The vampire and the witch have their first encounter. She is good witch to have around in case of a murder. And the book club theme begins here.
A fun prequel, but it didn't grab me as much as the prequel to The Vampire Knitting Club did. I was confused by this one and kept going back to the first book in the VBC series to see if I had missed something. All was clear to me by the end, though.
I read the Vampires Knitting Club a while ago and I enjoyed it very much. I initially thought this would be a prequel to that series, but now I’m intrigued by this one as well. It’s a good into to a new series and I liked it. 5 stars.
Great story giving background on Quinn’s situation. Looking forward to reading the books! This sounds like it will be as good as the knitting club books.
