Gordon is a gruff, middle-aged cook running a food truck in a sand-covered wasteland. When he encounters Arisa, a naked girl sleeping in the middle of nowhere, he takes on the unintended traveling companion and her unexpected appetite. Too bad she also has unexpected baggage—an armed militia hot on her tail! Fasten your seatbelts for postapocalyptic cooking and violent mayhem on this crazy food truck road trip!
Zero customers, a naked young lady, and an armed militia—it’s just another post-apocalyptic day for this food truck owner!
Well, that's about right: Crazy food truck where we see no customers, in a desert, where he finds a (naked) (how convenient!) girl, clearly underage (? though this may just be a function of manga face-making), whom he constantly yells at to put on her clothes. But mangaka Ogaki is torn: The more she is naked, the better the sales go, so make her very reluctant to wear clothes, though when she does, have her wear as little as possible. And let's see, to "respect" her in some sense, he gives her a kind of superpower, when he remains just this crazy food truck owner.. This reminds me of the sexist/misogynist Bond girls, who are mostly eye candy until some of them have mad fighting skills, which Bond grudgingly acknowledges.
Women and girl-centric comics and manga are on the rise, but Crazy Food Truck seems like a kind of nostalgic throwback to the Good Old Days of Sexism and Misogyny. Oh, I imagine she may develop into a real human being at some point. And a lot of people (men, exclusively?) seem to like this manga, because it conveys traditional comics values. Well, it is exuberantly drawn, with comic effect, which is a kind of relief in the growing dystopian comics world. Yep, there are laughs in it, and not just at the girl's expense. I didn't hate it.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital copy of this book in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.
Gordon, a food truck owner, is trying to exist in a post apocalyptic world when he stumbles upon a naked woman named Arisa in the desert. She's a glutton and has a whole militia chasing after her. The manga follows their food and war adventures. The story has a lot of potential, but I have an immense dislike for Arisa's character. She's young, naive, and gratuitously naked a lot of the time. When she isn't naked there is still a large focus on her body when she's in the scene. Thankfully, Gordon doesn't constantly lust after her and his character is interesting enough to have kept me engaged in the story. I would have enjoyed the story a lot more if it wasn't so focused on Arisa and her body.
I liked the general concept, but I couldn't look past the constant nudity and sexualization of a 17-year-old girl, as well as her general Born Sexy Yesterday deal. Maybe that characterization changes later in the series, but I won't be continuing.
I received a copy of this book for free for promotional purposes.
I give this book 4.5 stars.
What a fun and crazy ride! Action, adventure, delicious food, this manga had it all.
I loved the juxtaposition of the two main characters. Gordon is a gruff middle aged man running a food truck. Arisa, on the other hand, is a naive and very hungry girl. They don’t have much in common (other than the fact they both know how to fight and have mysterious backgrounds), but they have a dynamic that works. Gordon acts as a sort of quasi-father figure/protector to Arisa.
Since this manga is titled Crazy Food Truck, I have to talk about the food. The pictures of the food looked so yummy! It made me so hungry. I also loved the “recipes” included at the end of the book. That was a fun touch.
I enjoyed the artwork a lot, especially the fantasy creatures like the sand squid and puffer cow. There is quite a bit of nudity regarding Arisa’s character that sometimes seems unnecessary. However, there may be a reason for it since Arisa’s background is alluded to but not revealed. There is something “off” about her that could explain her constant nudity.
Overall, I had so much fun reading this! I cannot wait to see what happens in the next volume.
A quien se le ocurre poner una categoría en un reto con un food truck 🤣🤣 definitivamente se lleva el premio a la peor categoría de este año xd En fin, no hay mucho que decir, al menos se lee rápido jajsjs
A lone man moves amidst the remains of civilization, propelled by his desire to sell BLTs. A chance encounter with a mysterious girl of unknown power sets him in the sights of the military. And she might have some things to get off her chest too, typically her clothes.
Without question, this is one of the most shonen titles to have ever shonened and it feels like a total throwback story in a way that I mostly mean as a compliment, minus some of its more questionable treatment of its female characters.
The narrative proper turns out to be a bizarre combination of Mad Max mixed with, of all things, Food Wars!, and starts off with some gorgeous looking food porn before it starts to go a bit odd. Our lead, Gordon, isn’t out looking for trouble, but naturally finds it anyway.
This trouble turns out to be a sleeping bag full of Arisa, a young girl on the run who is a lot more than she appears and also shows off a lot more than you’d suspect at any given moment. And when she’s not showing off, the perspective is definitely, uh, tilted in her favour.
Gordon and Arisa’s relationship is the heart of the book and the way the two play off one another is really charming. She’s a super powerful weapon that wants to eat roughly every other minute and he loves to cook and they develop a strong father-daughter style bond as she leans hard into her gluttony.
Needless to say, when the going gets tough, the tough start shooting and the action in this is pretty solid and the mangaka’s got a real eye for it. There is an excellent car chase that has an appreciable focus on detail at the start and there’s a nice little showdown towards the end over a bowl of ramen.
The first place this gets a bit wobbly is with the post-apocalyptic setting. Necessary for the action? Sure. For the food, however, we start getting absolutely ludicrous nonsense like squid that live in sand and pufferfish-style cows. It’s not without its charms, but fantasy food is never very exciting to me, no matter how gorgeously it’s drawn.
As much fun as Arisa is as your standard super-strong manga heroine, the way she’s constantly whipping off her clothing (what there is of it) and keen to be naked seems a lot less like a character trait than a desire on the part of the mangaka to get some bare breasts in here. It’s a little excessive, but does remind me a lot of other series in a bygone era, which is regrettable more than laudable.
Sidebar - it drives me crazy that having a 17-year-old flashing her chest all over doesn’t get this an explicit content warning, while the superlative Sex Ed 120% (a series that is about 20x more wholesome and educational) does.
Ahem. And yes, Arisa kicks butt all over the place, she’s definitely of a tried and true stereotype, but that whole nudity thing is a thing. The only other women who show up exist to be sex slaves in the tackiest chapter, just so we can know how evil and gross the villain in that piece is, which might reflect the apocalypse and all, but is still pretty crass.
3.5 stars - it’s tough to call this a slam dunk, as it doesn’t handle its women perfectly, he said generously, but Gordon and Arisa make a really amiable duo that are worth spending time with and there’s strong action too. If you don’t mind the fan service this one’s a fun ride and I’ll probably give it another volume.
This comic is not bad bad, but it is sadly average for something with the title Crazy Food Truck! When I read crazy I did not expect to read the story of a guy who owns a food truck and makes lots of food for customers who never appear. I guess they meant crazy because the food truck guy finds a naked girl in a freezer like container because that has never happened… oh wait Outlaw Star that was a main plot and lots of other manga have found a young naked female character in a box. Finding a girl in a box is kind of a normal plot at this point, still waiting for crazy here. Oh she is always naked and or topless and you can see nipples, I must be getting old because that actually one of the least interesting things in the comic and not crazy if you read manga or watch anime. I guess the crazy thing is she eats lots of food, like weeks worth of food in one sitting and does not get sick or gain weight. That has to be the crazy. Otherwise the crazy thing is she is dumb, I mean really dumb and lacks a basic understanding of how their world works. Back in the day I would say she was dumb as a brick. It really is sexists.
Anyway, the duo do things, hunt for ingredients and cook food. They do get into a giant fight near the end. But otherwise they just drive around, cook and eat. Oh the guy keeps telling the girl to put on some clothes.
The art in this manga is really good, like amazing good with lots of detail and effort put into this art. Oh but for some reason page 39 is reversed. It reminded me of the back in the day when manga was mirrored so Americans could read the manga left to right. It took me a couple of readings to figure out what happened because it was a page with action.
So in summary, the story is a 2 or 2.5 so far as it is meh. The art is 9.5 out of a ten.
I guess I am just bummed I spent actual real Birthday cash I had saved up to buy this manga at the comic book store after reading all the good reviews and there was some hype. Hype mind you from reviewers I trusted and enjoyed other things they reviewed. I could have bought a bunch of used manga or new comics with the money I spent on this.
Crazy Food Truck is quite refreshing although I'm not a fan of food manga. The cover is what got me interested and I was surprised to learn that the series is only three books long. The manga is a weird combination of food and war time. Gordon is an ex soldier, who now runs a food truck except there's no customers, since this is a post-apocalyptic world in a war time. He's middle-aged, which is great by the way. He then meets Arisa, who sleeps on the ground naked and is a glutton. He picks her up and then the fun starts. Personally I don't really care that Arisa is naked all the time and her character altogether feels like a slap against women's faces, but at least Gordon doesn't sleaze on her. Gordon's past seems interesting too as well as Arisa's, so points for that.
I do like the manly art, even though Arisa kind of looks superimposed. Ogaki can draw movement well and the food part is nice too, since the series isn't blatantly just a food series. A steady series with an older main character rocks my boat always, so I'm quite happy this has been published in English. Also, the short length makes it interesting too, since the plot moves quite nicely and that's always a bonus.
i really wish this series didn’t end so abruptly because i had such a fun time with it! i loved arisa and gordon as a duo and i loved all the little weird food parts and the crazy animals. i could read just about going and finding strange food to cook and eat, but the action definitely added another layer. i do feel like the final volume was rushed to shit, but the conclusion made sense. why they had to die in a rain of fire though, big hmph. i also don’t know if i saw gordon and arisa as romantic partners, i feel like i saw them more as friends but oh well!
i feel like this series had the potential to really go on much farther and i would 1000% watch an anime series too. also small point but i really liked how arisa and myna were designed with the darker skin tones. also i can’t say no to anime tiddies every now and then, i did not find the sexualization annoying and felt like it fit arisa’s character

The nudity is completely gratuitous... But I really like the dynamic of the two main characters. It has the weird feel of a combining a food manga like Food Wars with a SF twist.
Welcome to a dystopian setting with a kick-ass food truck driver and his awesome food truck!
I was looking around for a new manga to read when I came across this manga! Food! Action! More food! Dystopia! Food Truck! I was definitely eager to dig in and now I need more of this series because this one was way too fun!
😍 I loved the Food Truck, though haha, at times it felt a bit useless as no one was buying food. He was just making it. Finding food. And then trying to sell it, in the end just eating it all by himself (or later all by Arisa). Still, despite the uselessness I did like that the guy kept trying. That he kept going to places. That he was eager and excited. I also loved seeing each new feature that the Food Truck has, and it has a lot. From a hidden shower to a sign with what the truck is up at at the moment (Turbo for instance when it is driving super fast). I would definitely love to visit the Food Truck. Such a shame one cannot just go into books to visit the worlds. 😍 Gordon. An unsociable older man who can kick some ass. For real. The guy is lethal. He may look like just an old man, but don’t piss him off. Later on we find out some details about him that explains why he is so kick-ass, but I am sure that there is plenty more hidden secrets waiting to be exposed. And I cannot wait! I need to know more about him. I loved all the food stuff he was able to make, but also loved seeing him collect food. He has quite some knowledge about how to find things and where to get them. 😍 The food. GOOD LORD, I just love a good manga or anime with food. Sometimes you just want to lick your book or screen. Soooo good! In this one we get various yummy food items and I just wanted to taste them all. OK, well, some are probably not good for me because of allergies, but I like to think that if the option was there to go visit a book/manga/anime world that one also loses allergies. XD 😍 There is so much kick-ass action. Both Arisa and Gordon kick some butt and they form quite a team despite not knowing each other for that long. There was one scene were they were both up on a table and it just showed how well they clicked together. 😍 Loved seeing the world, which for now just looks like desert wasteland. So I do have questions. What happened to the world? What happened to civilization? Why is the ocean now the desert? Why can you fish squid and the likes out of the desert? I do hope that in later volumes we get some more answers. For now I was just mesmerized by this world. People are still around but in smaller populations. And I did love the landscape and seeing what grew or lived there. Pufferfishcow? How did the author even think up that one? XD 😍 The mystery. There is so much mystery going on and I love it as it gives us plenty of material to enjoy. What is Arisa? Why do they want her? Does she ever stop eating? What is up with Gordon? 😍 There was never a dull moment. I just love it when a story can grab me by the shirt and drag me along. 😍 I really loved the art style! It fitted so well with the story + characters.
😍/🤔 I both loved and disliked Arisa. I loved her design (and no not just her boobs, thank you), I loved her eyes. I loved the mystery vibe. I loved how she just seemed to be able to kick some serious butt. I laughed at how she went along with things. But at times she was just too oblivious for my likes. At times she just pissed me off with how much she eats. I mean it is fun the first time, but seeing her eat the fridge and everything else constantly? And then getting angry (hangry?) at Gordon for there being no food? It just pissed me off. I get you are hungry, but you are always hungry. You will really have to learn to share and be kinder towards Gordon.
All in all, this was one manga I am happy I discovered! I cannot wait for more and what is next! I would recommend this manga to all if you are looking for a zany and fun manga featuring food!
Something I’ve seen on the shelves but waited to try out. Damn is this a great read. Reminds me of older stuff like Black Lagoon, Cowboy Bebop, etc. because of the two protagonists and the theme. The post apocalyptic setting and weird creatures bring a lot of fresh ideas while still being familiar in a way. Gordon and Arisa have a lot of hidden parts to their characters so that brings a lot of intrigue. You know I’m a sucker for some nudity and fanservice, this series has that but is not the focus just a piece. Love the visuals of the action and violence paired before or after making some tasty food while having funny charming moments.
Highly recommend!! Had to grab the next volumes because I knew after 2 chapters I’d be hooked.
If you're after a manga with below average writing, very average art and a whole lot of a naked minor hanging out with an old man, then this is the manga for you.
Or you could go read Zom 100 instead, which would be a better use of your time. I'm surprised this made it to the Sig line.
Post-apocalyptic food truck vendor with a mysterious—yet skilled—past stumbles upon a naked girl in the middle of the desert one day. What ensues is a quick paced, action comedy road trip of sorts as the two begin to learn more about one another while hunting for food, cooking delicious looking meals, struggling to find customers in the wasteland, oh, and being chased by an elite government military task force. A classic loner older man with a simple life meets naive young girl who gives him reason to fight again and live life scenario: there’s definitely a Leon the Professional angle to the story with these two characters. Worth noting that there is a lot of nudity from Arisa—the mysterious “plot” girl—but the protagonist food truck chef balances it out by acting like her concerned father and always making an effort to cover her and teach her basic human lessons in comical ways. Crazy Food Truck doesn’t reinvent anything nor does it particularly have an overwhelming originality angle, but it’s drawn well, and leaves enough crumbs to the world that I’m intrigued to see it explained more. While I’m not rushing to get the following volumes, I will eventually check back in down the line. Like Sakamoto Days, I can see this becoming an anime adaptation.
thank you to NetGalley and VIZ Media for a free review copy of this book!
I really enjoyed this first volume of Crazy Food Truck. We got to see a little bit of what's going on but there's still a ton of unanswered questions. I like not knowing everything that's going on in a book. I can't wait to see all of our questions answered in the coming volumes! I also really enjoyed having the recipes that were used throughout the book compiled in the back of the book. Overall, this is an interesting first volume and I'm looking forward to volume 2!
PS 2025 - 29. Un libro sobre un food truck
I enjoyed volume 1. The artwork and character designs are great. I liked the world building and set ups leading up to the second volume. Not sure how I feel about Arisa yet. The only thing I didn’t like is that Arisa is 17 and is briefly topless quite a few times throughout. But Gordon wasn’t a creep and always told her to get dressed and to stop doing that. I’m hoping they have a father daughter relationship and not a romantic one. That would be gross.

Yep. Well that was kind of dumb. But I needed a book about a food truck for popsugar 2025. And this was about a food truck. It also was a post-apocalyptic version of Delicious in Dungeon with a team-up with a River Tam knockoff. Silly but fun. Good enough art. Good enough writing. Not much with the sensical. 3.5 of 5
This was totally bonkers. The sexy/sexist cheesecake aside, the idea of a postapocalyptic food truck, making recipes from mutant plants and animals is an amazing premise, and there is enough dark backstory for both main characters to set up what looks to be a fun series.
