Deadwood #12

Never Say Sever in Deadwood

Rate this book
All Violet Parker wants is a day off. Better yet, just a “normal” day. But things never go as planned, especially in Deadwood.

Someone - or rather something - broke into the local taxidermy shop and took bites out of the critter displays before racing off into the dark. But this is no random crime, and Violet knows it. With a bounty on her head and troublemakers zeroing in on her, she soon goes from being the hunter to the hunted.

“Burly muscled and rawhide tough don’t matter. Never tangle with a Scharfrichter!” - Violet Parker

Stellar! The best one yet.

I have loved every book in this series, but this one stands out for me. Ms Charles has a natural talent that very few share. Keep 'em coming, please!

Love this series

Violet and her gang of paranormal hunters get more wicked and funny with each story. I’ve adopted a few of her and Harvey’s catchphrases.

Thrills and chills abound in this latest addition to the terrifying (yet hilarious) Deadwood mystery series!
How many more crazy puzzles will Violet and her gang have to solve in order to stay alive? Stay tuned, there are more in every new book, and this one is the craziest yet!
Highly recommend!

Never Say Severe in Deadwood is a book by author Ann Charles that tells the story of Violet Parker, an executioner of paranormal and ectoplasmic creatures and also a real estate agent in Deadwood, and with the help of Doc, her boyfriend and partner, Cooper, the stubborn detective, and Harvey, her bodyguard, they wish to hunt down the parasitic Nachzebrer and their bounty hunters. Will she be able to do so despite the forces that try to distract her from her goal?

This book is a fantasy paranormal novel filled with humor and friendly banter. Although it was really confusing at the start, it would have helped if one had read the book first, but with patience, you will learn to appreciate it. I love a book that is able to transport you into its world and make you a spectator on its best viewing platform, and that is what this book did with its well-described scenes, especially the violet way of talking. She is my favorite character; she has a tongue that can put old sailors to shame and a fierce personality that cannot be shot down, though she could melt in the presence of her boyfriend.

Although its language style seems unusual, it adds more spice to the book. I wish there was a translation for some of the foreign words used. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because of how well it transported to the book, and I recommend it to paranormal readers.

There are some book that take days to read and others that you hate to put down. I have yet to read a book about Violet and Doc and the gang that I put down. I usually fall asleep reading because I am so involved with the story I do not want to stop. The characters are well developed and interesting and interactive with each other they are line real and not in a book.
Now these books keep getting better and better! The kids are up to new tricks which in this case involves a dog which they name Rooster. He is very important to the children and will be also to Violet. Plenty of action, mystery, romance and humor. Violet and Cooper will get a bit more involved in this book but then birthdays do get you busy. This is the type of party I would go to.
Masterson will have a few words to say and so will Prudence but Violet has the final words but she does listen to Doc a bit. The character Mr. Black shows up with a timekeeper who will become involved in the life of Violet and possibly her family. Time will tell but there will be some interesting things going on in the next book which I can’t wait read!

This series has twisted around a lot from the early books I fell in love with. They are still pretty good, but so much paranormal to try and keep up with. And poor Violet, how many evil beings must she encounter who want to end her, and all in one day. Thank goodness for her cohorts who seem to be there to help pull her back from the brink of extinction. If you read this series, you might want to start taking notes when the paranormal stuff starts happening.

Wow! Ann Charles does it again, but of course she does!
The adventures of Violet and the gang sweep you along at a breakneck speed in the newest installment of the Deadwood series. It's fun, it's a bit scary, it's hilarious in spots - she coins more than a few new terms for the monthly visitor that every woman should know - and there are new monsters and allies.
The book is superbly written and difficult to put down. If you haven't started this series, why not?!

Violet wants a normal day and hahahahahaha. Yeah. Her life is too weird and dangerous and complicated for normal anymore. Or maybe she just needs to recalibrate her definition of normal to include ghoulish beasties, the potential for ghosts at any given moment, weird interactions with allies, and otherworldly visits. Because all that stuff happens on the regular.

Now imagine all that stuff plus a party for her day job to celebrate the airing of an episode of Paranormal Realty. An episode in which Violet is showcased and...yeah, there's a lot going on in Violet's life. A lot.

On the upside, she and Doc are solid. Violet's also not butting heads with Cooper quite as much (probably because Natalie's keeping him bus-ay, if you know what I mean). And her kids are happy and healthy and trying their hardest to add a stray dog to the family.

A little danger (I kid, there's more than a little), a lot of unpleasant bodily fluids, a few cases of totally needed beheading, and more than a little French between Violet and Doc. Good.Stuff.

Ahh Violet, up to your ghostly tricks! This book was as fast paced as the others. It was good to see Doc now firmly entrenched in the lives of Violet and the kids. Violet is becoming more accepting of her executioner role, though she is still a tad bit squeamish about making her kills. The secondary characters of Coop, Nat, Cornelius, Harvey, Prudence, Aunt Zoe, and Reed all make this book so much more. Their interplay with Violet, each other and the supernatural beings help to elevate the mysteries that keep befalling Violet and the gang. Onto Book 13 when it’s released.

Violet and crew are busy trying to get imp contained. Cooper’s birthday is spent at an Escape Room that just happens to be haunted; and vampire-like monsters are popping up everywhere in Deadwood. No good one-liners from Harvey but there’s always the next book….

Always too short

Absolutely love reading Ann Charles's novels. They keep me interested and laughing as I shiver! Violet is a single mom, realtor to and a monster killer in her spare time. Worth her merry band of friends and family she deals with whatever life throws at her, even when it comes from another realm. Fun, silly, and just scary enough to give you the willies. As usual, the story wasn't long enough!

The adventures of Violet Parker just keep getting better and better. I loved this story. There were plenty of ghoulies, beasties, murder and mayhem as well as chuckles, giggles and out and out belly laughs. Violet' s world is scary, crazy, absurd and, thanks to lover boy Doc, oh so steamy. You would think after 12 books the stories might start getting stale and repetitive but not in this series! Finally, a special nod to the author's brother, C. S. Kunkel, whose imaginative illustrations are peppered throughout the book. They are great and I never tire of them.

Ms. Charles - thank you for another spectacular read. Can't wait for the next one to hit the bookshelves.

The story continues

Another fantastic book in the series. Continues with the story and is fun exciting and keeps us up to date with are friends. The bad thing was the bug being planted in ear. Thanks Ann we needed another thing to worry about. If these things should exist is nice to know that there is a group to help kill them and keep us safe. Its another great installment and lots of fun, romance, action, love and what's coming next. I guess this is going on till one of us dies probably me Great book. Must read!!

Love, love, love!

Loved this one just as much! I miss this cast of characters while I wait for each book. I’ve enjoyed these books for years now and just can’t get enough. use them as gifts for others that I know will love them. Poor Violet though- she just can’t catch a break! Coop, and Harvey are probably my next favorite characters. But how can you not love Doc, Natalie, Corny and all the others? Well- except for Prudence! If you haven’t started this series- what are you waiting for? I use these books for stress relief. Anxiously waiting for the next one now…

Anne Charles is one of my favorite authors. Her writing is so witty and funny. I literally sit down and finish her books in 2 days (one day if I didn't have these darn kids distracting me lol) These are humorous paranormal books with a hint of hot romance. Start this series and I guarantee you will be hooked!

Darn, the Black Hills are busy, even in the dead of winter! There are new monsters out there, hunting Violet. One of them tore up the taxidermist's shop, much to everyone's bemusement. Violet has extra homework now, getting rid of them. Fortunately for her she has great backup with her circle of friends and family. One of the highlights of this book is a drunk Cooper trying to navigate a haunted jailhouse escape room as part of his surprise birthday party. So much adventure and fun in this book! I should smile.

I loved this series and still like it but this book seemed a bit of a rehash. Zoe still ‘hates’ Reid. Cooper still makes wiggly eyebrows at Natalie and bashes Violet while Doc just seems to take care of everyone. There is too much swearing that does not move the story but just makes the book adults only when young teenagers would enjoy reading it. I am not against adult language or behavior but it needs to be part of the story and not just an add on. Glad to see Violet is finally keeping her eyes open. Anyway, I’ll keep reading the series but it could stand a booster of some sort but keep all the characters because they are what make the book special. Still had laugh out loud places and you could almost see Violet in her zombie attire.
