If Snow White with the Red Hair and The Savior's Book Cafe in Another World had a baby, this manga would be it!

It's like seeing a distant relative of Shirayuki (who loves learning and studying) live in another world where just like Tsukina in Savior's Book Cafe, Sei does NOT want to be in this other world. Despite how overworked she was in Japan, that is still her home and she rather be there, butttttt…

Since she can't return, she slowly begins to pursue one of her "past" hobbies of medicinal herbs, which of course leads to this story opening up and seeing just that!

While I know quite a few friends who didn't really enjoy the arc in Snow White with the Red Hair where Shirayuki is studying the glowing rocks, that was actually one of my favorite arcs in the series! Due to that, I think it's why I so deeply enjoyed the first quarter of this manga because Sei is doing SO much exploring and experimenting with how herbs are used to make potions in this other world. It's not very fast-paced, but I found it satisfying seeing her grow as an individual and not just use her magical abilities to make her life easier.

Granted, those abilities come in clutch and it's AMAZING to see them in action so to speak! It's really a slow burn in the people around her realizing that she might actually BE a saint because when tragedy strikes the knights and it's HER (Sei) potions that heal people drastically (and basically bring someone back on the verge of death), but people at the research institute know there is something more to her with how little she knew about potions/magic when she first arrived.

There really isn't any romance in this first volume, but oh my goodness, I am already hardcore shipping her with a certain someone because he is SO sweet! The way he gets so happy around her and is obviously going out of his way to spend time with Sei makes me happy. <3

I also really liked the whole cast of characters! (Well minus the prince at the beginning but who doesn't like him?) Jude and the Director are fun characters and I hope we see more of them because they always liven up the page, especially when Sei starts cooking and Jude comes around asking for some. LOL! I also like a new female character we meet later on and how she was giving out all the deets to Sei for "no reason." Bahahaha!

I think one of my "favorite" parts is when Sei sort of has a "beauty transformation." That might be weird to say because typically when the female leads lose their glasses as Sei does, I REALLY dislike it. However, the reason I say it's one of my favorites is because of how surprised I was in how well done the scene was! She isn't necessarily using magical abilities to instantly make herself more attractive. Yes, that magic is in her potions, but I thought it really cool that she is making different cosmetics to help her skin look and feel more healthy. She is genuinely doing a skincare routine and really appreciated seeing that because Sei is putting in effort and not depending on magic to help her countenance "glow." I thought the whole thing was very well done and wish other magical manga series would do it like that too!

Overall, this was a really really good first volume and definitely looking forward to reading more in this series! I think it's only going to get better and better, especially since the romance seems like it's about to really start unfolding in the next volume. Eeeepp!

I like this!! I requested it through the library last June when my father wanted the light novel for Father's Day, and I thought this sounded a bit like Flying Witch in terms of it being gentle/not angsty/bright. Well, it's all that.

Sei is a very down to earth woman who was living as a lonely workaholic until the day the alternate world of Salutania performed a saint-summoning ritual to avert the evil taking place in their kingdom. They ended up with two women, so their prince picked the other and left Sei behind. The rest of the castle staff tried to keep her happy (they can't send her home) but she eventually finds herself working in the medicinal herb gardens and the floral research institute. Except...she's unnaturally good at what she does. Her potions are super-potent. Her life is improving the longer she stays, but no one realizes just how strong she's become...

I've requested the second book now. We'll see how long it takes to get here. :-)

Sei arrives home one evening after a long day at work only to suddenly find herself transported into a new world where a magical miasma has caused a monster problem. Normally a saint is summoned when the miasma monsters become too bad for normal people to deal with, but for some reason this time two saints appeared, Sei and another woman named Aira. To Sei's annoyance, the eldest prince warmly welcomes Aira and completely ignores her. If that's how it's going to be, she figures they can let her go home. However, that's not possible, so Sei tries to put up with her new life as best she can. Bored, she finds herself drawn to the Medicinal Flora Research Institute, where she's soon given a job.

While at the Research Institute, Sei begins to learn about the various things she can do with medicinal herbs in this world, as well as the ways in which her abilities seem to be different from what other people can do.

I'd previously heard about this series but was planning on passing it by because my backlog is enormous enough as it is, and this sounded kind of bland. But in a moment of shopping cart weakness, I broke down and bought the first volumes of both the manga and light novel series. I decided to dive into the manga first, just because it would be faster and I liked the art when I flipped through it.

Based on this first manga volume, I strongly suspect that the light novel is going to be excruciatingly slow-paced. Not a whole lot happens - Sei is summoned, ends up at the Research Institute, discovers that people have RPG-like stats in this world and does her best to increase her "Make Medicine" level, and meets several attractive guys in the process. There's Jude, the nice guy who introduces her to the work the Institute does and who is then assigned to be her supervisor - Sei has a moment when she notes that he's attractive, but I suspect that he's a distant second in the list of Sei's potential love interests. There's Johan Valdec, the director of the Research Institute - probably not even in the running, intended more as a reader stand-in who notices the potential romance brewing. And there's Albert Hawke, the Winter Knight, whose life Sei saves with one of her potions.

Albert seems to be the most likely love interest. He's obviously interested in her, not that Sei realizes it, and at least a couple characters notice his interest and find it amusing. For my part, I'm iffy about their romance so far. It's not that they seem like a bad potential couple, but they're both pretty bland. Readers know nothing about Sei other than that she was a workaholic with an amateur interest in medicinal herbs. We don't even know what her job entailed - it's presented as generic office work. And Albert was just "the handsome knight." We're told that he's called the "Winter Knight" because he's usually cold and expressionless, but none of his on-page moments, even the ones where Sei isn't present, showed him that way. He was always warm and friendly.

As is usual with isekai fantasy series, Sei got the opportunity to introduce something from her world to her new one: in this case, cooking with herbs. For some reason no one in this world ever thought to season their food (possibly not even with salt and pepper??), so she started cooking with medicinal herbs and of course everyone loved it. She also introduced lotions and other beauty products, because of course she did.

So far, I really like the artwork, but the story and characters seem bland at best, and there are a few things that don't quite sit well with me. My biggest concern is the way Sei and Aira seem to be pitted against each other. Aira is the one who gets the prince's attention without even trying, who's immediately treated like the new saint. We're told that Sei is ignored, but in reality everyone who spends any time at all talking to her loves her - it was only ever the prince who ignored her. We're told that Aira has caused some problems at the Academy, getting too close to men with fiancees. Meanwhile, Sei also gets close to several men...but coincidentally none of them have fiancees, and there's no hint of disapproval in the text the way there is with Aira. I'm hoping that this is all a misunderstanding on the part of the people in this new world, and that they're assuming things about Aira's behavior and motives that aren't true, because otherwise it seems like she's being set up as Sei's "slutty" rival - not just in competition for the position of "true" saint but probably also for Albert's affection (although it's already clear who Albert would choose).

I don't know that it would really bother me to stop reading this series at this point. It could improve, but this doesn't seem like the most promising beginning. Well, like I said, I've got the light novel too, so maybe that will give me a different perspective of where this series might be heading.

Extras:

A couple full-color images, an afterword by the original light novel author, an afterword by the manga artist/adapter, and four four-panel comics.

This review will be for the whole series; read at your own risk!

Read 5 volumes

Adult lady isekai…. My favorite. We follow Sei as she begins a new journey in this world of magic where she learns that she is quite a bit more powerful than even the knights who’ve trained their whole lives. Sei is so sweet and smart and kind that she’s exactly the type of protagonist you root for.

I’m curious about the prince and the other saint. I’m excited to read about Sei’s budding romance! And it’s refreshing to read about a king who isn’t an asshole! Can’t wait for more!

Edit 3/6/22: I really liked seeing more about Aira. I feel so bad for her. I really hope that Sei will help her! I was so happy that Liz also tried to reach out a hand to her and the asshole Prince was all to blame for her isolation. I can’t wait to see him get his 😡

Edit 3/13: Prince finally took “responsibility”. He’s just a dumbass apparently. I’m so happy Sei and Aira got to meet and hopefully they become friends!! I love this series so much!

This was cozy and charming. It started a bit slow, info-dumping as the character is introduced to the world she's suddenly found herself in, but it picked up half way through and I'm excited to see what cool things Sei will find herself doing next. All-powerful characters can be a hit or miss for me, but her nerdy personality and circle of pretty boys are holding my interest for now!

Sei is a hardworking Japanese businesswoman who gets pulled to another world. Surely she’s the promised saint who will save them... unless it’s this younger girl who also showed up that the prince takes a shine to.

With no way home, Sei sets about making a life for herself, showing an aptitude for... many things, as it turns out. Soon she’s accumulating prestige and... a reverse harem...?

This is a cut above your average isekai story largely because Sei is so freaking awesome. Rather than some downtrodden teenager or hopeless case (Sei may not have dated, but she seems more a victim of her work culture than anything else), she has agency and takes charge. Her response to being summoned and tossed aside is very, very believable.

I like how Sei soon starts doing a job she actually enjoys and respects her time and she gets increasingly healthier as a result. Nice subtle commentary on the aforementioned work culture.

Her work as a researcher is a lot of fun (I like the joke that her work is so good it’s unusable and her prolific output is overtaking the resources and space of her job). I do enjoy isekai where the most mundane actions lead to fundamental shifts in society.

(As somebody who routinely dipped potato chips in his Coke when younger, I find it hard nobody ever thought to try cooking with herbs though. That might be on me though.)

The reverse harem aspect is interesting - there’s a clear favourite right now, but definitely some potentials waiting in the wings. And it’s not who I was initially expecting. We’ll see, but nice touch (this might be stretching the harem concept a little bit, but I swear we have rivals).

If there’s anything that doesn’t work well for me, it’s story flow. We know the other victim of the summoning is floating around in the story, but she is largely absent for the first volume (I have no doubt she’ll play more of a role later on).

This volume also ends on a total non-event that shows its light novel roots - I imagine the novel ends with a bit more punch than this does, where the story here just kind of sits waiting for the next chapter. Despite my overall enjoyment, I do think this probably reads better in its original incarnation (sorry, not sorry).

3.5 stars, rounded up for having such a likeable main character (I wish she’d kept her glasses though). I’ll check out another volume for sure - I wish the story flowed a bit better at the end, but it’s a really well done entry in the genre.

A cute light entry into the isekai genre, this novel has an office worker, Sei, swept into another world as a Saint, along with another teen (both from Japan, incidentally), Aira. However, since only one was supposed to be summoned by the arcane ritual, and the Crown Prince in charge of the summoning takes the teen as the Saint since Sei, having just come off a long work week isn't looking her best; she, however, does take offense to just being ignored. As she can't return to her world, she attempts to leave, but is mollified by the palace staff into staying. Sei, though, wants to be of use, and when she finds that the herbalists at the palace are fine with taking her in, she moves in as a magical herb researcher. A bonus is that she already had a hobby for aromatherapy and stuff back home, and with her magical skills, she starts to make very effective potions. However, she is still lying low as the Saint, and her identity in the kingdom is not well known, so she has to keep it secret to regular folks, but also she is eager to test the limits of her skills, which makes for interesting situations. Along side this is cast of adorable characters who support her, both directly and behind the scenes, plus a gallant knight for romance.

Coming fresh from reading the novel, I would say the manga is a faithful adaptation of it, though it does make some delightful additions. Johan is probably the most entertaining, because the manga brings out his teasing nature so well. Humorous situations in the novel are also made more so with the art, which makes up for the novel's writing; in fact, the manga might be the better version to go with, for the story, excuse me for my blasphemy. Seriously, though, it isn't missing much details, and the only drawback is that volume one of the manga is only about half of the volume one of the novel, and yeah some extras from the novel don't make it here. But otherwise, with respect to storyboards, character design and general rendering of the character's personalities, I like the manga!

The problem I have with this story is that there is no intrigue. Everything is pretty wonderful. And that’s super boring. Sei, the MC, gets more and more talented and beautiful as the story progresses (spoiler: she takes her glasses of) and I’m not sure she could be any more perfect. And so far, everyone is super nice. Which is also super boring. There’s no suspense. Supposedly, there are lots of monsters... maybe they’ll bother to show up in vol 2?

All that said - it’s still cute and entertaining, and definitely readable.

This reminds me a lot of the Magic Artisan Dahlia manga I am currently reading but not quite as... fun or imaginative.

The romance stuff is introduced pretty early on, but Sei - the female lead - has no sexual or romantic experience and isnt receptive to men's advances nor does is she able to readily identify them. This is... boring.

I was also underwhelmed by the level of exposition throughout the first portion of the manga explaining the world and just what she did in the beginning.

She never really tries to go home, and doesnt miss her old life at all. And like a lot of manga (and anime) leads, her time in Japan was spent working WAY too much (ie Zom 100 is literally about being exploited at work and the freedom the zombie apocalypse brings him).

Like, she is living in this world for a month and just works all the time. Even on her days off.

There's also a gamification portion I dislike; she can pull up her stats and see what level she's at for various skills. And since she was transported here, she makes a lot of comparisons to Japan that also feel boring.

(We get it! The creature comforts of modern day Japan are better than a vagely medieval Europe!).

Also, can someone tell the people in the back that fantasy is more than nobles, knights, low grade magic and murdering animals (*ahem* monsters)?!

It would be nice for a female lead to at least be curious about sex and dating instead of just writing it off (ie Dahlia).

I dont understand the point of isekai when women are just reliving their original lives from before! What is the point?!?!?

Underwhelmed. I loved the premise but the execution... :/

As expected I loved Sei's manga adventures just as much as her novel adventures!!

Hello my name is Lexie and if I had to describe my reading taste it would be Highly Compotent Ladies Being Very Skilled While Oblivious to How Compotent and Skilled They Are.

Say a greeting to Sei Nakanashi (herefore after just Sei), an OL who gets caught up in the Saint Summoning Ritual before getting completely ignored by the eldest Prince. Understandably irritated she makes the most of her situation by...well essentially god-moding through potions, cooking and hardwork.

Surrounded by gorgeous men, what does the future hold for Sei?

Gods above I hope Albert is end game here!

The artwork is simply gorgeous - its detailed, lush and just (European) fantasy-esque enough to give a general sense of the world. Most characters are...well very pretty/handsome, but Fujiazuki's illustrations are so lovely I was happy throughout.

The translation was pretty smooth, with only a little bit of ?? when Albert talks (I couldn't tell if he was just much more formal then Jude or if it was meant to denote his nervousness around Sei). Kumar Sivasubramanian did an excellent job! (Not surprising look his other stuff: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ency...)

Pacing is a little fast, by necessity since a lot of this could almost be considered prologue to the actual story coming up as Sei's God Tier Awesomeness comes more and more well known (even as the so-called "Saint"/Holy Maiden is abysmal)

So, it was after I watched the Anime Trailer that brought me here. When I watched the trailer, I was a bit interested with the story and I thought that reading the manga might give me a bette grasp on the series. I have to say, this series itself is not perfect, and I feel like it doesn't bring anything new, but what made me continue on with this was first and foremost, the art. The art in this manga is splendidly drawn and well-done. I also have to say that the characters are quite likeable, which also made me continue reading this. I'll be frank and admit that I have no idea if I will finish this series but for now, I think I'm willing to give volume 2 a try and see how it goes from there.

The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent is an isekai series that follows Sei Nakanashi a workaholic in her 20's who gets transported to a fantasy kingdom during a saint summoning ritual, only to be left as the back-up option! She decides make use of her time working with potions, improving her talents along the way. A quiet fantasy manga with a great cast of characters!

From the moment I read the summary, I knew I had to read this isekai! I'm starting to fall in love with stories where the mcs are transported to other worlds and the fact that this followed an ordinary woman who gains the abilities of a saint?? How could I not read this!

Sei is very much upset when she is one of two people summoned only to be ignored by the prince, with Aria (the other girl) being accepted as a saint. With Saints abilities to defeat monsters created by miasma, it seems like the kingdom was in desperate need of help.

Instead of letting time pass her by, she meets Jude in royal gardens and with her fascination of medicinal herbs, he teaches her more about the plants in the kingdom of Salutania and even invites her to the Medicinal Flora Research Institute! She decides to stay there for the time being and learn how to make potions and even magic! As the months pass however, she realizes her unique abilities in crafting potions makes them 50x's more powerful!

Throughout the manga she uses her knowledge to apply it to other areas of her life from cooking to creating beauty products, and even gets a chance to showcase her powerful potions when the kingdom's knights are attacked. When her special potion even helps the commander, she's happy to see her work helping others!

I loved the dynamics between her and the other characters, Jude is such supportive best friend and everyone from Director Johan to the commander, knights, and her new library friend Liz all recognize her unique talents. There's just a nice camaraderie between everyone and it's nice following her journey to carve out a space for herself in this world.

Despite being set in a high-stakes world, the fantasy is very slice of life and quiet, which I really appreciated.

Sei is a wonderful protagonist! Although she doesn't have much experience in romance and has always been focused on work, she uses that drive to pursue a new hobby and make friends! It's nice seeing an isekai heroine in her 20's and focuses on her learning more about her own hobbies and interests. Overall, she just felt like a really relatable main character! <3

There's little hints sprinkled in throughout the story that never explicitly state whether she is the true saint or not, however once you reach the end you begin to realize: Could she be the real saint after all?

I'm interested in seeing what Sei's next adventure is as her abilities continue to be more powerful and the subtle romance with the commander! Although I also love her dynamic with Jude??

What stood out about the art was the distinct choice of paneling that highlighted the characters, pacing, and backgrounds really well. But overall its strength was definitely among the character dynamics and expressions!

Overall nothing I didn't particularly like, I guess it just felt like a 4-star read. If anything I think just more details about the world because it's quite brief in the beginning, although I love the inclusion of research institutes and apothecary stuff in a fantasy setting. Also maybe just a bit more background on the elements of the potions because that was really fun to learn about!

There's an anime adaptation coming later this year and I'm even more excited, because the story is quiet, yet full of mystery and charm, and the CHARCTERS are just so wholesome! Its a nice slice of life fantasy with magical cooking, potion making, and subtle hints at romance!

The Saint's Magic Power Is Omnipotent is fantastic introduction to a new isekai series! Featuring a slice of life atmosphere, potions, and great character dynamics, the story hints at more magical adventures to come!

In her mid-twenties, Sei had resigned herself to living as a burnt-out, workaholic office drone.

That is until one day she found herself summoned to another world.

This other world is in desperate need of a Saint to ward off monsters and a deadly miasma. Usually, a Saint appears once the miasma grows thick enough. This time, it did not. So, a summoning ritual was performed—which led to not only the summoning of the holy Saint but, also, Sei.

She’s apparently just the backup option.

As such, she finds herself being ignored by most of the powers that be. Which means she has a lot of free time since she can’t return home.

Sei decides to follow her passions and explore her new powers at the nearby Research Institute. There, she honed her herbalism and magical abilities to create potent healing potions.

Her abilities become increasingly useful as more monster attacks lead to more knights in need of treatment.

Could Sei actually be the Saint this world needs?

This is another really fun reimagining of the typical, tired isekai story!

This first volume drops us right into a magical world of intrigue and in-fighting amongst the powers that be. Our main character is so relatable and she’s got such a sharp sense of wit that adds some levity to the story from the start.

As the story progresses, we have a slow but steady increase in the tension that is counter-balanced by the delightful relationships that Sei is developing. We’ve got a good mix of story and character development.

As I’ve said, I’m so taken with this emerging sub-genre of work that revolves around female characters and the more quotidian types of magic in the isekai genre at large. It’s a reimagining that has been desperately needed.

Readers who enjoy series like The Savior’s Book Cafe in Another World or The Other World’s Books Depend on the Bean Counter would definitely enjoy picking up this series! It blends some of the best attributes of both those series~

A pretty fun isekai (pulled into another world) story with a twist from the usual: when workaholic office-girl Sei gets pulled into a magical world by a ritual to summon a sacred maiden to save them, she is one of TWO young women summoned...and the prince breezes right past her to take the other girl under his wing, completely ignoring her! Not content to rot in idleness in the palace, Sei is left to make her own way, and meeting a friendly herbalist in the palace gardens leads to her discovering a knack for potion-making.
I was mildly annoyed by the video-game-like use of 'levels' where characters can check their stats on little screens (example: 'Potion-making: level 2'), but I get that it's a simplifying device and can agree to overlook that, since (so far) actual story-happenings distract me from it. There is the question of the elder prince (elder? are there brothers we will meet?) whom other palace figures don't seem to respect, and what will happen with that; and the other summoned girl, whisked away by the prince to be the Chosen One and never seen again in this first volume (what's happening with her?); this volume is more about Sei finding her footing in this new world, with less action, and I get the sense that more is to come when the issue of the monsters ramps up.
Not mind-blowing so far, but not a bad start for a shoujo isekai manga. I am interested enough to pick up the next volume!

I thought I wasn't going to enjoyed this because of the main plot, but half way through I started to really like it.

Besides, "I'm in Love With the Villainess" manga, I have not read any other series that involving the main character going to another world, but I do see them alot.

Atleast this one, provides a reason, where someone uses magic to transport the Saint to the kingdom to help with evil and monsters.

Turns out, Sei is not needed as another girl is the Saint, so Sei spends her time in the garden and later learning about herbs. She becomes part of the Research Institute and begins to learn more about magic.

She becomes to invested that she makes potions but she make more than the palace and kingdom needs. Unfortunately, some members of the Knights are hurt and maybe her potions can help them.

I know the novel will have more details so I can not wait to get my hands on it, once someone returns it to the library. I have thought about buying it since I want to read it so badly.

I am looking forward to reading the second volume.

I wanted to read the manga for this series after watching the first few episodes of the anime. I really liked the story so far! The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent is a laid-back, pleasant story that partially reminds me of a magical version of Snow White with the Red Hair. The first chapter starts slow and is heavy on exposition but things do get better.

The main character, Sei, is suddenly summoned to another world in the hopes of being the saint who can save the kingdom of Salutania but is disregarded for another woman who was also summoned. With currently no way home and nothing to do, Sei tries to make the most out of an unusual situation, finding purpose as a researcher making medicinal potions. Sei’s already making a difference in Salutania due to her curiously high aptitude for magic that continues to flourish as time goes on. It’s a more fulfilling and healthier life than the solitary, workaholic one she led in Japan.

I think I’m going to really enjoy this series.
