DNA: Demons N Angels #1

What To Expect When You're Expecting Something Different

Rate this book
It’s weird how every woman reacts differently. How each pregnancy differs.
Mine is definitely unique.
My sense of smell became stronger, picking up the faintest odors, and my stomach was in constant turmoil. Those were the first signs.
And then I started eating. And eating. If I don’t, I get a migraine and people’s faces become blurry. Electronics seem to malfunction in my presence. And the nightmares—they don’t stop.
Something is changing my body.
Something that should have never happened.
Something that my husband and I had prevented from happening.
Something people say is miraculous.
The bigger I get, the more frequently I encounter people who become possessed. And the more often I wind up questioning if I am carrying a miracle baby.
The closer I get to the due date, the more I love this child and the more confident I am that I will protect my baby from anything.
Even its fate.

DNA Demons N Angels contains violence, swearing, and sex scenes. If you are looking for a clean, curse free book, this isn't it.

"For the first time in my life, I think I believe in destiny"

Everlid Beetrix is pregnant but her husband Jim has had a vasectomy. After proving it isn't his, he dumps her. Now what? Run away. Why not- nothing left for her there. However, what does the future hold? Good? Evil? Magic? Truth? Will the answers be revealed?

And so starts nine months that I both laughed and cried over. When this book first came out I was excited but for whatever reason it got shuffled into an overwhelming TBR and was forgotten, until now. And it was worth the wait.

This book is a wild ride for someone whose background is theology and interfaith history. The question is, what will Eve give birth to and will they all survive? I know this book is not new but I still won't spoil it except to say I'm very glad DNA II is now out and I'm headed there right now. Highly Recommended 5/5

Name That Entity

Everild Beeatrix is known to her friends as Evie and is still called Bee by her parents. She and Ken Johnson have been blissfully married for four years. They enjoy socializing with friends and their children but love when they have their own three bedroom house all to themselves.

Evie's best friend, Marisa, keeps her going day to day. They are best buddies, leaning on each other for moral support for everything. Evie and Ken work together in the same building but on different floors.

Something is not bothering Evie. In fact, she is impervious to the stares she gets from other people when she stops on the way home, orders a Cesar salad and soft serve ice cream and piles the ice cream on top of the lettuce and drizzles it with dressing and Hoovers it down.

Evie then goes bra shopping because during cuddling with Ken, her breasts were so sore, Ken observed she'd put on a little weight and suggested she buy new bras.

Fast forward to a drug store in the small town Evie lives in. She has felt 'wrong' somehow and has made five trips and bought out their supply of pregnancy test kits. All but two are positive and she's bewildered. She calls Marisa who reminds her that, even though Ken had a Vasectomy, they can occasionally reverse themselves on their own.

Evie is terrified of telling Ken because they both agreed they did not want children. She knows she hasn't slept with anyone else yet wonders what Ken will think.

Fast forward again, Evie is divorced, in her old beat up car and driving across country with no goals, just a broken heart. And, a series of weird experiences with doctors running DNA tests, possessed people telling her she and/or the baby are from hell.

Have I caught your attention yet? Good, because you ain't seen nothing yet! Not only will the rest of the book keep you guessing, fingernail biting and up all night, but... another book awaits in the wings. So to speak. Excellent read.

If you're a huge fan of the show Supernatural, you've gotta check this book out! It gives similar feels that the show did with the whole paranormal aspect and especially with possessions and demons and angels. If that's not your thing.. then maybe this book isn't for you😅

I won't lie.. this book took a long time to read. Like 2 months long almost. Grant it I was very busy during the Christmas season so I didn't spend a lot of time reading in general and I got easily distracted by other books and other things unrelated.

While this was a good book imo, I doubt I will purchase the physical copy because I already have book 1 on kindle and if I can ever get my hands on book 2, I may purchase that one as well.

The writing was pretty juvenile and while I loved how it kind of felt like I was the baby in her womb and she was talking to me, it also felt weird. Not in a bad way, but I've never read a book besides stories on Wattpad probably written by middle school kids that give that 2nd person type feel in the writing. I've never been a huge fan of it. However, I completely understand that the FMC was speaking to her baby and reading 1st person is basically like we're in the mind of the main character. So it was cool to see a different take on that type of perspective.

Idk if and when I'll ever get around to reading book 2 given the ending wasn't necessarily a cliff hanger for me. Kind of predictable but I won't go into details to avoid potential spoilers. But I will say this, I love how every chapter is basically 1 week of her pregnancy for the most part.

A new take on pregnancy and romance!

What a fun and interesting story in DNA Demons N Angels: What to Expect When You're Expecting Something Different by Katie Zaber. I've read work from Zaber before. I like that this book's title is a play on a famous title for pregnant women, and it draws the reader in. Now, DNA has a new meaning, and it shows the story. I really enjoyed reading this, and it was fun, and yet, there was that tone of paranormal, especially when pregnant by either a demon or angel. Possession takes its toll, but the outcome could be a miracle. This author has a great imagination and I'm glad it's being shared with stories. The story brings in the believable, even if almost impossible. Both thrilling and intriguing, all the way to the end. It shows that not everything is all evil or all good. I am a definite fan of this author! DNA Demons N Angels: What to Expect When You're Expecting Something Different is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I read this book to give my unbiased and honest review. Amy's Bookshelf Reviews recommends that anyone who reads this book, to also write a review.

This book was a little bit slower read for me, especially to get started, but the second half read more quickly. I enjoyed the chapter breaks by weeks in the pregnancy, and while the ending wasn’t shocking, it was a good way to end it. There are so many ways the author could take the series, and I will have to read the second book to see how things are progressing in Eve’s story.

You hear of some strange things happening during pregnancy, don't you, even if you never have children of your own.

Not like this, though!

Told in the first person, the story begins by introducing us to main character Evie, whose relationship with her husband, Jim, falls apart when she becomes pregnant... well after Jim has a vasectomy. He accuses her of cheating, after the doctor who performed his vasectomy plants seeds of doubt in his mind as to her faithfulness, and kicks her out of the marital home. Her best friend takes her in and takes care of her, until she meets a kindly man at a roadside diner. He buys her a decent meal, gives her money, and leaves; only the business card he left her proves he was even real. When she calls him for help after she's attacked, he gives her a home and treats her as if she and the baby are very special indeed.

It's obvious that the author knows her stuff when it comes to pregnancies; reading the novel, I got the definite sense that she was weaving her own personal experiences into the tale. I even learned a thing or two about pregnancy and its symptoms which I would not, being totally infertile, have been likely to know otherwise (for example, I already knew about the weird food cravings, and the discomfort and pain in the late stages, but I had no idea about the enhanced sense of smell; I'm guessing that doesn't happen to every mother-to-be, because my own mother never mentioned it, and nor have any of my friends who have had children).

Meantime, as her baby grows, increasingly strange things begin to happen to and around Evie. I don't want to spoil the book for those who haven't yet read it, so I'll just say this: there is more than just human influence at work, although that does have its time in the spotlight as well.

I very much enjoyed the way the author kept the feel of the story light-hearted despite all the odd events; the character of Evie has a sense of humour I can really relate to, and I probably wouldn't react all that differently if I found myself inexplicably with child, except the first thing I'd be wondering would be, how did my doctor mess it up so badly -- he was categorical about my infertility.

If you enjoy a good mystery without the murder aspect, I can recommend this book as a worthwhile read. I have left this review entirely voluntarily, after a mishap with a giveaway copy which I couldn't access, led the author to very kindly give me a free review copy; she didn't ask that I leave a review in exchange, but it's all I can do by way of a thankyou.

I had high hopes for this book. The beginning was great. After the 30% it started dragging. By the 50% I started skipping parts and finalky I went straight to the end☹️
There was no chemistry between the MCs. Lucas 😇 was a caricature of the perfect boyfriend. We learn nothing about him, nada! It's like he has more money than God and the looks of a God and does everything right... And that's it. Lucas in two sentences.
Eve on the other hand started witty and smart, but in truth she was a needy gold digger💸 with boring inner dialogues and mommy issues😭. No one will convince me that she would give Lucas a chance if he was a regular guy, with a regular job/paycheck...
Such a disappointment😕

The book is well written, and it does ask a few questions about choosing the right mate and WHAT you can expect.

I was really excited about this book, especially since I'm expecting myself (though hopefully not something different!). It seemed right up my alley, and I was thinking it was going to be a sort of quirky tongue-in-cheek version of Rosemary's Baby. Unfortunately, this one really fell flat for me.

The beginning was really interesting, and I could forgive all of the stiff, overly formal dialogue (not using contractions when they would be used in natural-sounding speech is a huge pet peeve of mine...) but around the 30% mark, it just started to go downhill. A lot of what didn't work for me is, of course, personal preference. I couldn't stand Lucas. The overly doting mystery guy who didn't have much of a personality and referred to Eve as "my queen" all the time really annoyed me. Eve's inner monologue was extremely repetitive. There were many times I felt like I was reading the same sentence over and over again, just worded slightly differently each time. I'm also not a fan of a huge cast of paranormal creatures, even if they are just mentioned in passing. What really irked me, though, was discovering that and Eve is just kind of...okay with that? She's a little miffed but I expected a lot more righteous anger when that came to light.

Overall, this was a fun concept, but ultimately fell short in a lot of ways for me. I appreciate the author's creativity. She absolutely has a knack for coming up with interesting storylines. However, I don't think I'll be picking up the next one.

When you produce a baby on you own and that is the least complicated part of the pregnancy!

Evie has a happy marriage apart from her husbands mother and grand mother calling her a devil woman everytime they see her. She then becomes pregnant the problem is her husband has had a vasectomy and that is just the start of an extremely complicated pregnancy!

I thought this book was extremely well written. It has sex scenes in it but they are gentle and not too graphic. There are also some Violent scenes but nothing too macabre just possibly a bit grim. I think the relationship between evie and lucas is gorgeous so is the relationship between evie and malisa. Its a story that is relatable with a few things I actually found myself reminiscing about the birth of my youngest child with the birth scene it was beautiful. I don't know if that's the end of Eve's story but I would deffinatly like to read more of it and I think that there could be another book to carry on the story as it doesn't feel finished.

This book was really unique! It starts out with the main character suspecting that she is pregnant. The only problem? She doesn't want kids and her husband has had a vasectomy. Ut oh. But, she hasn't had an affair, so the only reasonable explanation is that she is the next virgin Mary? Hmm.

It was fun reading through the chapters and not knowing what was going on. How did she become pregnant? Why is she being watched? And, why are weird things happening all around her? This book kind of reminded me of Rosemary's baby, but it was less scary and more cute. The baby isn't evil, and there are no evil signs, besides the possessions happening all around her. I really enjoyed the semi light hearted vibe of this book, and I enjoyed reading about her weird and unexpected pregnancy.

The characters were well thought out, and I really enjoyed Lucas. He was a perfect guy and I am interested in reading the sequel just for him to be honest. He was fiercely protective, but also kind of a cinnamon roll.

Overall, I found this book to be refreshing. It was unique, but it also contained some of my favorite elements, such as mystery, supernaturals and alpha males. I am really excited to read the next book in the series!

Great Read!!!

This is different than any romance book i have read. It is a long crazy story and i just love it. Eve is a very strong woman. She gets pregnant and pretty much tossed into the supernatural world without even knowing it. She handles it all pretty well. When she meets Lucas he is just amazing. He is so loving towards her even though she is pregnant with someone else's baby. He treats her like a queen and even refers to her as his queen. He is loving and supportive. Lucas just happens to be an Angel. He would do anything for Eve and her baby. This is a fantastic read.

I enjoyed this story. It was a bit different from the usual book and kept me guessing to what was really going on. It made me laugh and tear up a few times but it kept me entertained. I really liked all the characters and felt for Evie and what she was going through. Basically a simple story of girl gets pregnant with a paranormal twist to it and the added bit of suspense and mystery to spice it up. Fun to read.

What a Roller Coaster Ride with Evie and Lucas. Evie who discovers she is pregnant and her life is sent into a tailspin. Eve has been though so much and her life is on the Run. This book will Draw out every emotion you have. I was crying one minute then giggling the next. Lucas is amazing to Eve and so protective it makes your heart swoon. We meet some great people along the way of Eve's adventure that show her some respect and want to help her. I love how we get to experience every week of her pregnancy and the babies development it brings joy to the book. This was an amazing read and can't wait to read the next in the series.

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

There comes along from time to time, a book that really pushes my ability to write a coherent review. This is such a book.

I could not see, or I had a picture in my mind that turned out to be so very wrong, where this was going for a long time. As I neared the end, it became clear that it would end round about when Evie gave birth. And I wasn't sure HOW it was gonna end, not til I ran out of book.

And herein lies my problem with this book.

I read it, I finished it. At NO point did I feel the need to dump it, even when it became clear only Evie is given a voice, it's her story after all. I enjoyed reading it, I really did. And then it finished! And I'm left kind of "well how do I write a review?!"

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a very well written book. Hard work in places, but very good. It's original, I can honestly say I've never read such a book. It has many twists, some I saw coming, and some not so much. It led me on a merry dance across the States, and across the whole supporting cast, some of whom held my interest a little more than Evie in places.

Evie did well to fully grasp her situation, once Lucas told her what he was. Lucas was, in my opinion, a little too much too fast and I wanted to punch him a time or two! (please don't hate me, but I did!)

I just didn't get the whole point of it! A lot of things, actually, made me think, once I'd finished it. Made me question why that bit was even in the story. I'm not going to say which bits, because that's spoilers, though.

So, for originality and great writing, I'm giving it 4 stars, but taking one off, because I really would liked to have heard from Lucas, and maybe Melisa and maybe even Ken, when he's doing his research.

I think this will probably be one of "THOSE" books, you know? One that have a gazillion 5-star reviews, but you can't see what the fuss was about, and I'm sorry for that, because it was well written.

3 good solid stars

DNA Demons N Angels is definitely What To Expect When You're Expecting Something Different!

The basic premise of this book is a woman (Evie) gets unexpectedly pregnant. Unexpectedly, because her husband has a vasectomy years ago! Think Virgin Mary. Obviously, he doesn't believe her when she says she hasn't slept with anyone but him, and they separate. This starts the journey of a lifetime with possessions, kidnappings, and hints galore about who the father of the baby is and what 'it' will be.

The cravings in this book made me laugh, and also wonder if this was real life in a book. If not the author, then maybe someone she knows? They are just as funky as some cravings can be, and I loved it.

I didn't think too much as I was reading this. I didn't try to figure anything out. I just let the book sweep me along, giving me bits of information when deemed necessary. Maybe because of that but the ending didn't come as a surprise. It was a good ending, just not surprising to me.

I'm really hoping there is more to come in this world. I would like to know more about Lucas, Annabel, Bell, and co, plus I'm sure that baby has stories to tell. A very different read that I thoroughly enjoyed and have no hesitation in recommending.

WHAT A BOOK !
I loved the story, it was original and well written! All the mystery around the baby, and the fantasy part really had me captivated + the development weeks being the name of the chapters was also super cute and a very good idea!

Also, I'd like to say that I'm usually not a fan of the pregnancy stuff, because it's in most books the only trait of the character and I feel like they should be more than just baby conceptors, so I was hoping that I would find something different in this book and I was surprised in a good way !

Evie is very brave, with everything she's been through while being pregnant! One negative point, I was just disappointed to see her so dependant of Lucas sometimes.
Speaking of the devil (!!), he is like the perfect boyfriend; he doesn't look real ??
LIKE I WANT MY LUCAS PLEASE :))
And I loved Melisa, Evie's best friend, and especially the fact that they're soulmates but like "friendship soulmates" :) (THE SOULMATE TROPE is superior>)

So yeah, you reconciled me with pregnancy stories and that, deserves at least 4✩ ! (I don't give 5 stars easily :p)
+ thanks for the copy, I loooved reading it and I can't wait for the next book!!<3
