Please Note: Bone Voyage is a novella, thus the length is shorter than the other books in the Midlife Spirits Series.
Paranormal Women's Fiction from NY Times Bestseller, HP Mallory, co-author of the Haven Hollow Series!
What a tangled web we weave when first we practice… to be possessed…
It’s my first Christmas in New Orleans, so you’d think I’d be in festive spirits…
Well, I might have been if not for the appearance of Peter MacGregor. Peter, having heard of my success in stopping the axeman by going back to 1919, now wants me to solve the murder of his wife, by going back to 1959.
And, you got it, going back in time means first going back to… Guarda’s. If I never step foot on that woman’s property again, it will be too soon.
I’m a huge fan of anything paranormal and I always have been. I get super excited whenever they have those Twilight Zone Marathon days and anything ghost or vampire related will always attract my attention.
My interests are varied but aside from writing, I’m most excited about traveling. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to live in England and Scotland, both places really having a profound effect on my books.
Thanks for checking out my books and I hope you enjoy them! Happy Haunting!
A fast read! And an interesting one at that! It’s not as long as the other books in the series, a novella, but it’s well worth it, and it just makes me want more!
This novella is book five of Midlife Spirits, a Paranormal Women’s Fiction series of short novels from HP Mallory. The book is set in the Garden District of New Orleans, USA.
This short story is set just after the events in book four (Bump in the Night). Peyton is hired to solve a mystery using her new found abilities to communicate with the spirit world. During her task, she uncovers a disturbing piece of information regarding Voodoo Hoodoo Priestess, Guarda, which could have an impact on how the rest of the story unfolds.
I am eagerly awaiting book six in this series. I love the way the characters have really come to life and I’m invested in their journeys. HP Mallory writes in a well paced style, which draws the readers into her world.
The reading order for this series is as follows:
Book 1: Afraid of the Dark Book 2: A Ghost of a Chance Book 3: Mischief Brewing Book 4: Bump in the Night Book 5: Bone Voyage
Bone Voyage is twisted, intense, shocking, and sad. Peter MacGregor learns about Peyton's abilities and when he discovers she was able to go back in time to stop the Axeman, he seeks her out. His wife was murdered in 1959 and Peter requests Peyton's help in finding out who took her life.
I love Peyton. She's fun, interesting, and a wonderful character. She's learning more about her abilities but it's not all wine and roses. In fact, the story told in this novella is devastating. As she dances around in the past, Peyton uncovers information about Guarda that increases her character's creep factor and brings a lot of elements into focus.
I found this novella completely engaging, fast paced, and I couldn't put it down. I'm excited to read the next book.
Peyton is having her first Christmas in New Orleans and things were going pretty good until Peter MacGregor showed up and asked Peyton for a favour . After Peyton successfully defeated the Axe man her life has been different. Peter wants her to go back in time and figure out who killed his wife . Well that means just one thing heading back out into the bayou and Guarda's the last place she wants to go . To solve the murder she must go back and figure it out .
Peyton and the gang are back and celebrating their first Christmas in New Orleans . Peyton is doing it up right and like any woman over decorating . She has some ne abilities that are making her very popular . I love these characters especially Drake and Peyton , I know they are ghost and living and he is in her body but they are the best . I have never laughed so hard as when those two get going and sparing with each other . Guarda well she has some secrets that she has hidden and now Peyton knows some of them . They are so fun to read . This is a novella and it is one fast read , it took me a couple of hours to read . I am loving this series so much . The authors sound like they are having a ball writing this series . The characters are evolving and growing with each book and I love where the author is taking them . This is a shorter book and you will love it. So if you want a fun read for the end of summer check out this series .
The 5th book in the series reads more like a short story then the next volume of the series it also sets up the future books without really adding anything to the storyline. Payton is asked to help solve the mystery of a wife’s death. It does have a great introduction to characters and setting the scene, however the time frame is very confusing and feels like the reader missed out on some important things. Once again it feels as if the authors voice changed.
I'm loving finding out more about Peyton's abilities. I do wonder how long Drake is going to be around, though. Maybe she's just used to him by now, but the danger has passed from what I can see. Or at least, that particular danger. Guarda is looking like an interesting villain, an who knows what might still happen with the loa...
When a man enlists Peyton's help to figure out the reason for his wife's death long ago, she feels she has to help him. What Peyton finds out involves Guarda, the voodoo priestess, that she never wants to see again. With Ryan and Drake's support, Peyton is able to give closure to her new friend and cement her fear that Guarda is not to be trusted.
Peyton is asked by Ryan to speak to old family friend about his wife. Peyton meets with the gentleman and decides to try to help him. Peyton will be for some shocking information. I am not going to say anything more, this is a must read.
A friend of Ryan's comes to Peyton asking more about what she does. After explaining, he decided to hire her. He wants to know who murdered his wife. Peyton, with the help of Lovie, turns to the spirit realm to discover who is involved.
So the intent with this one is to further the Guarda link but also provide the first step in how Peyton will become involved in solving mysteries using her connection with Drake and the spirit world.
This was a creative, entertaining novella. It was fast paced and hard to put down. I enjoyed this novella and look forward to reading more books in this series.
I can't get enough of these characters! I love Peyton! Bone Voyage is a super fast read, picking up where book 4 ended. Peyton gets to use her new "abilities" grabbing some info that could shake things up.
