Let me share a story with you
A story of how this series saved my life

It was January 2019
The world has just learned about Covid but still no lockdown

By this time I was doing my Masters degree and was in a forced reading slump for 5 years before because of work and commitment

On the last week of January, a terrible accident happened to us where my youngest sister went into a coma for one month during which the lock down occurred
I was to stay with her in the hospital since she went into a fetus state due to her TBI
and I was suffering from mild injuries

One month is the hospital
Lockdown
No family support due to distance
My mind went crazy
My depression intensified
My insomnia was driving me to the brink of suicide
I did not know what to do
How to be strong
How to keep on

One day, I decided to pick up a book to read again
I ordered the throne of glass series not knowing anything about it
The Assassins Blade was the first book
And the phrase "my name is Sam Cortland and I will not be afraid" kept going on and on in my mind

Reading what Caelina then Aeline went through

I stayed up til 10:40 last night finishing Throne of Glass series. Hands down one of the best series I have EVER read! And now I feel empty inside and full at the same time. Im doing a reread of ACOTAR next. But I don’t know if I’ll ever find another series this good.

Highly recommend looking up the reading order and how to tandem read Emire of Shadows and Tower of Dawn. I personally think Assassin’s Blade needs to be read between books 3&4 and the tandem read is must for continuity of the story line.

To SJM, I am floored to know that you started writing this so young. This is what you were meant to do. Aelin and her crew’s story was an EPIC triumph. I laughed, I cried and I cheered out loud. And thank you for making such strong women too root for. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Aelin 💛 - she was here for the longest, she carries this whole series on her back, she has been thru a lot.But she was flawed too, first 4 books she was kinda arrogant and insufferable, she evolved a lot and i appreciate her for that.She is great! JUST NOT MY FAVORITE.I gotta give it to her tho, she is a great leader,worrior and strategist.👑

Manon 🤍 - yes her personality was not the best either, but why do i like her more? Cuz she really made a big change for herself, from a cruel heartless witch she became a warm more humane queen. She was strong Af, always had a soft spot for 4 things : the 13 and asterin, elide, dorian and Abraxos.
Amazing fighter and leader 👏🏻

Dorian 💙 - had a hard time liking him the first 3 books, because he could have been more useful for sure.But also he evolved a lot from just a spoiled protected princeling to a serios confident king 🤴🏻 I loved to see him coming to his true powers and taking the lead of his own life.He became an unstoppable force .

Chaol 🧡 - yes i know everyone hates him, but it could never be me. He was here from the beginning, he stayed consistent, he cared about his best friend, he cared about his kingdom, he did his best to cope with everything despite being a powerless human and he succeeded in the end.Yes he made mistakes, but everyone does.

Lorcan 🖤 - took me some time to warm up to him, but i just couldn't resist his cuteness despite his scary look towards elide .He is a protective bf and i was here for it .

Elide 💜 - She actually carried!!! Despite being weak and powerless, she thrived and did amazing things for her friends and for her cause.Respect

Lysandra 💚 - my lovely lady has been thru a lot too. Her character evolved and moved on from her past. She became a great worrior and i was her for her friendship with Aelin

Yrene 🩷 - did not expect her to be such an important and impactful character! I liked her personality and her determination. She worked hard to become what she is and without her the world would have been doomed

Nesryn 🤎 - yes maybe she was not as present and in the front as the others, but still she made a lot of difference in the war

Fenrys 🩵 - thanks to him Aelin stayed sane.
I wish i could have seen more of him, he had great potential.

Aedion 🩶 - well I dont hate him honestly. He is not my favorite around here, he made lots of mistakes too, but I know that deep down he is a decent male.He cared deeply about Aelin and the kingdom. If he treated Lysandra better he would be much higher.

Rowan ♡ - oh no ! i am adding Rowan now because I even forgot about him! Yes this is how relevant he was for me .I AM SORRY, I KNOW THIS OPINION IS GONNA RUFFLE SOME FEATHERS 🪶 but damn I really couldn't care less about him? From the start he was just the basic basic love interest - mean, cold and hateful, but quick to warm up to his true MATE.Idk i am kinda done with that.He ks strong for sure, has good powers, took care and loved Aelin for who she was and all that ... His personality is just bland and nothing special.He exists just to serve his gf and that's ok 👍🏻

ACOTAR vs TOG
TOG has way better characters but ACOTAR has a better moving plot. 

TOG was a great overall series but something of a slow burn (pun intended). This series is worth the read but it is a commitment, I'm an avid reader and it took me about 5.5 months. You also would need to read the books back to back because there are so many characters and details that would certainly be forgotten. It gave Game of Thrones vibes which I loved but also the series would benefit from a character map at the beginning of each book! 🤣

I highly recommend the tandem read of EOS and TOD. In my opinion, TOD was awful but I hate Chaol so I'm biased there. The tandem read helped me keep chugging along and made it fun to go back and forth between story lines. Kingdom of Ash is essentially a gigantic book with a different character's story line on each page which was interesting. Definitely my favorite book of the series!

Overall, I give the series 4.5 ⭐ because it was a great series, I don't regret reading it BUT it was a massive undertaking and I felt like several of the books could've really been condensed and the character development would still have been just as good. With that said character development is Maas's jam! The characters in book one, ceased to exist and were reborn so much better by the end of Kingdom of Ash. Truly a work of character art.

Throne of Glass Series: A Study in Highs, Lows, and Wasted Potential

Reading the Throne of Glass series was like being trapped on the world’s longest emotional rollercoaster — where half the time you’re screaming from excitement, and the other half you’re screaming because you’re stuck upside down in a morass of melodrama.

It starts strong enough: Assassin’s Blade shows flashes of the story this series could have been (or so I’m told bc I didn’t bother to read that shit after I was done with the first two books bc ain’t nobody got time for that). Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight hint at a darker, grittier epic filled with betrayal, survival, and sharp edges. And then… the magic system gets dumped on us like a surprise ice bucket, and from there it’s an escalating parade of ridiculous plot twists, new characters every five pages, and dramatic last-minute saves that make no damn sense.

By the time we reach Queen of Shadows, it’s clear Sarah J. Maas wants to turn this into her sprawling magnum opus. And sure — there are still bright spots: Manon Blackbeak is a queen, Dorian actually has a compelling arc, Elide deserved the world, and even Lorcan was weirdly more interesting than half the “main” characters. But Aelin? Rowan? The endless self-important posturing, bad decision-making, and zero consequences? Yes queen, give us nothing.

Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn tried to patch the sinking ship — and honestly, Chaol’s storyline ended up being way more emotionally satisfying than it had any right to be. (Chaol and Yrene have more chemistry than Aelin and Rowan ever did, fight me.)

And then we get to Kingdom of Ash, a chaotic mess of a finale where every character from every side story gets wheeled back onto the stage for their final bow, whether we cared about them or not. Plot threads are rushed, character arcs are fumbled (Aedion’s “redemption” LOL), and even the epic battles can’t fully save it. Also, if you thought all the endless traveling and split POVs would pay off, think again.

The biggest frustration is that somewhere under the overwrought drama, overwrought journeys, and constant overwrought everything, there was a really good story — one that SJM couldn’t seem to tell without setting it on fire first.

The real MVPs? Manon. Dorian. The Thirteen. Elide. Lorcan. (And Fleetfoot, who at least knew to stay missing for most of the chaos.)

Final verdict: If you go into this series expecting a sleek assassin fantasy, you’ll be disappointed. If you go into it expecting a soap opera set in a medieval magic world — with dragons, witches, and way too much shirtless brooding — then you might just survive. Just don’t expect logic, and don’t get attached to character development. It’ll probably be thrown out a window by Book Five.

Three stars for the parts that kicked ass. Zero stars for the parts where Aelin decided to improvise again.

Words cannot express the mix of emotions I felt as I reached the end of this remarkable series. With eight novels and countless hours spent immersed in its pages (audible, in my case), bidding farewell to this world is a literary hangover. The depth and magic of this book series are unparalleled. As an avid Harry Potter fan, it stands shoulder-to-shoulder with my all-time favorite fantasy novels. Sarah J. Maas undoubtedly outdid herself in many aspects.

The level of intricacy in the characters, stories, and the seamless weaving of every element was incredible. Nothing was overlooked, and everything converged flawlessly in a symphonic finale. Maas skillfully brought together an array of characters, histories, and their intertwined fates. The most beautiful part is you often don’t see her setting it up!

I did feel a slight disconnect with the ending here. One lead character and their final victory over a lead antagonized felt somewhat effortless. Also, while I loved the female power and leadership, it at times felt too overtly emphasized and I felt would have been just as strong without the sometimes dismissive tone towards male characters.

Setting aside those minor things, the character development throughout the series was just unparalleled and I think what make this series exceptional. Aelin's journey, her struggles, and the realistic portrayal of how trauma shapes her character were masterfully executed. It is this depth that makes the series so captivating. Each book delves into themes of grief, guilt, self-discovery, and resilience.

While Aelin takes center stage, and Chaol receives a dedicated book for his personal growth, it is Dorian who stole my heart. He's often overlooked but remains a steadfast and relatable character. His transformation, particularly his quest for self-acceptance beyond comparisons, struck a chord. His journey, including the complexities of his relationship with his father, was captivating

I can’t seem to find the words to cover everything in a review. All I can say is that I adore this series and the themes of friendship, forgiveness, and the importance of not succumbing to fear. Fear can ensnare and corrupt, but loyalty and love for family, friends, and community can empower us to transcend darkness.

The first time I read the Throne of Glass series was right before I entered a dark period of extreme growth in my life. The first time I read these books they took a small part of my soul, reshaped it, and kept it safe. The part of my soul written by ‘I will not be afraid’ and ‘To whatever end Fireheart’ and ‘You do not yield’ This part of me came to me when I needed it most, but ultimately, stayed hidden. The second time I read the Throne of Glass series, I am looking towards a future that is fast approaching and holds huge life altering changes. In preparation, that subtle but powerful part of my soul that was safe and dry has returned at full force. My name is Maggie Lee and I will not be afraid, I will not yield. Throne of Glass has shaped me in ways I could not imagine, and the words and stories will stay with me as I move 1.5 thousand miles away from my home town. So, I encourage you, open your heart and let this series change your being.

lmao, here’s To everything Sarah J. Mass has done for us, no matter how frustrating it turned out to be or how most of the times we didn’t agree with it😂
Here’s a complete book by book breakdown as I was finishing each book!

First book-
Ohh starting this series was the best decision because this is soooo excitinggg!
Plus point: Unlike other fantasy books, it didnt take the first 100 pages in explaining all about the fairy lands lol, story was easy to understand right from the beginning and the plot unturned perfectly. 
I loved the characters as they’ve been shown now, but we’re def gonna go deeper in understanding about them in the upcoming books and i am the most excited for it.

What made this stand out was definitely the exciting plot about the forbidden magic, the interconnecting worlds, the creatures from other realms, celaena’s role through it all and her connection to Elena.. there’s still so much more to know, so much more to discover!

Appreciation note:
1. Nehemiah - she’s the sweetestt, as a friend and the person she is <3
2. Chaol- I somehow dont see him as a romantic partner for celaena ( cuz I mean there’s definitely some tension between them and he obv have feelings for celaena) but more like a good friend. It would be better if their relationship is kept platonic, but yeah let’s see, just a personal opinion for now.
3. Dorian- ok stop he’s so so so sweet. I see how there’s the two brother/friends falling for the same girl but my vote’s on dorian 😭 
like hey, dont we all love a man who liked reading, has a thing for always saying the most poetic lines, and is actually smart w his actions, thoughts and words?? Not my fault there girlll.

Second book-
Wait what in the plot twists was that, so good. I wouldn’t have thought!
And again the plot was really interesting..
We got to know briefly about dorian’s powers and I hope we get to know about it more in later books. More about celaena’s plot twist toooo

Celaena Sardothien was Aelin Ashryver Galathynius, heir to the
throne and rightful Queen of Terrasen.
And he had just sent her into the arms of her strongest potential allies:
to the homeland of her mother, the kingdom of her cousin, and the
domain of her aunt, Queen Maeve of the Fae.
Celaena was the lost Queen of Terrasen.
Chaol sank to his knees.
ABSOLUTE CHILLS.

Although I kinda disliked celaena this book, almost for half the part she was shown as this really arrogant person like her conversations with mort in the first half I absolutely hated the way she was being so selfish didnt care about what Elena had to tell her or refused to helped Nehemia and kept getting frustrated at everything. Although she was really badass in the scene with grave’s head dude, so badass.
I hope her characters gets better in the next book with the new info we got to know now about her : )

Now ok Nehemiah was literally the sweetest person. I dont think ive ever liked a female side character in a book as much as I liked her. She did not deserve that, and so soon?? 😭 oh man at one point I was like dorian and nehemiah would actually make good pair, but ohh, I am so heart broken. i hope the author has in mind a right fate for fleetfoot atleast.🙂

Now wait I love love love dorian so much and I felt so bad for him when she broke his heart, but then I thought, maybe chaos and celaena are actually better for each other. Like they’re obviously shown closer in terms of attachment and knowing about each other, and they get along well where dorian and celaena are shown to have this more tension, attraction and in terms of understanding each other.
But now I think chaos and celaena being together is better(although idk if thats gonna work out seeing how things r right now) Cuz like honestly.. dorian deserves better.

But the banter between chaos and celaena was actually nice when it was in picture :

could reply. She didn’t mean to sound so sharp, but—well, she’d been

“Dance with me,” he said, and held out his hand to her

Third book-
ok tensions. Political, evil and magical.
But first of alllllll, SARAHH be honest, do you really have something against my dorian? Why cant you let him be happy for once. Dorian and scorscha were soo cute. 🌷😭 the light flirting, teasing, understanding was sooo there
Sorscha~ “I was not supposed to love you. But I did. I do. And there is so much I wish… I wish we could have done together, seen together.” 😭 when i finally start shipping two absolute lovey dovies THIS just has to happen.

celaena’s role is fun in this book with the whole blackbeak witch thing going on side by side. And whatt celaena has healing and fire powers? The oath w rowan, aha cool shi
QUEEN ENERGY FRR

Rowan is a fun guyyy. We all need that kinda bonding partner🫂 i melted, when he called her ”fireheart” 😭💖

so much more was introduced, wywerns, witches, more about the fae’s and the past.

Fourth book-
well celaena was celaena, one hell of a baddie 💅
throughout the book i had sorta mixed opinions on her. i liked her pov at first when everyone sort of seemed to hate on her..

“For her friends, for her family, she would gladly be a monster. For Rowan, for Dorian, for Nehemia, she would debase and degrade and ruin herself. She knew they would have done the same for her. She slung the washcloth into the water and sat up.”
Like hey? Thats badass and thats exactly what i wanted her to be like.
But she’s def still got some attitude issues.
And her bashing towards chaos is totally valid TO ME.
“Unpredictable. The arrogance, the sheer single-minded selfishness …
Chaol had run. He’d run, and Dorian had been left to be enslaved by the collar.
Dorian. She’d come back—but too late. Too late.”
Yes but when she was like dorian should be killed i was like girl whatt, i was justtt defending you. Though honestly, maybe that was the right thing from her pov, even if it felt completely wrong from audience’s perspective. Cuz i knewwww he’d be saved, HE HAD TO BE.

"Touch him,” Chaol said, “and I’ll make sure those bastards down there find Aedion.”

And dorian is my favourite so whoever’s on dorian’s side well you’re my person at the end of the day :)

omgg manon, i got it so wrong bout her thought she was gonna be an evil villain or something but ohh did she turn out to be one of the best characters!! she’s one of a badass really.

Ahhh i felt so saddd for dorian in the entire book i am sooo so glad he got saved as i knew he would. But the narrative of him forgetting even his own name, being tortured by the valg demon i felt so sorry for him. Why does this kinda shit always happens to my favourite characters 😭

This was a good book tho. I loved the chaos and exciting upturning of events and omg when dorian killed his father 🤌🏼🤌🏼
but then i did feel sad cuz maybe he truly was a nice man… (the valg demon possesion part)

Fifth book- (empire of storms)
Ok omg a lot of stuff seems to be happening.

I dont know how I feel about rowan and aelin still-
“Fireheart,” he said onto her mouth.
“Buzzard,” she murmured onto his.”
Ok cute. I guess.
I was still thinking that maybe they wont end up together, but then thisss-
“She’d been in love with him for a while now. Longer than she wanted to admit.”
“Rowan hissed, “Where is my wife?” ONE MINUTE SILENCE.


ahhh Manon is so badass. Love herr <3
Also, love the banter going on between dorian and her. I did not expect this coming!! This was so random but they the banter just fits perfectly. They’ve got those moments where there’s teasing, giggling, hot shit, flirty lovey-dovey shit, but it’s not cringe in any way and I love itt.
“I have killed and hunted men for sport. Do not mistake me for a human woman, princeling.”
“I have no interest in human women,” he purred. “Too breakable.”

“And you’ve been with so many women to be able to judge a witch’s wants so easily?”
That smile turned lazy. “A gentleman never tells.”
GOD THERES JUST SOMETHING ABOUT DORIAN, that just.. ⭐️🤌🏼🔥🩷


The whole fight-at-sea scene was the best hands down. The sequence of them fighting those sea-dragons was so good.

Both fmc’s were baddies tho

“Two females whose paths crossed tonight in a way we’ve rarely witnessed. Two queens, who might control either half of this continent, two sides of one coin. Both half-breeds.
Manon, an Ironteeth and a Crochan. Aelin.. Human and Fae.
Between the two of them, they are mortal and immortal. one worships fire, the other Darkness.”

So yeah overall this was it. ended with Kaelin just taken(vanished) by Maeve, dorian Is with the witches they’re forming themselves their army for Kaelin, and rowan is on the trail for finding aelin. 
meanwhile aelin’s gone, lysndra has shifted into her and pretending to be Kaelin ruling the kingdom. So really everybody thinks aelin has won and it alright. 
now, Im not feeling so fun about the next book since it’s majorly about chaos, and none of our main characters, major plot twists gonna happen maybe? But let’s see

Sixth book(tower of dawn)-
Uhm as I expected honestly, like it was mainly chaos and yrena’s book. it was this whole book dedicated to them, but then it also felt like it wasnt. 
There was this whole relationship from scratch to end about them, and yet I felt like, I didnt properly FEEL things? Like I was supposed to?? idk it didnt do much wonders for me. 
there was this plot about nseryn also (hope im pronouncing the spellings right)
And a few major plot reveals, like about Maeve being the Vlag queen who’s just pretending to be Fae!
Here’s goes the final showdown!!!


seventh book- (kingdom of ash)

And here it is. the completion of this very long series 
we took so much time getting to this, to here. 7 books. And yet, why did the ending feel so rushed?
Like everything was going so perfectly leading upto this moment with Maeve and erawan, and then a few pages, and they’re both dead and happy ending?
I mean okay, but I dont really feel that satisfied considering how we spend 7 books getting here.

But I have to say, THE WOMEN OF TOG>>
YA’LL SLAY HARD. It’s usually the men stealing all the spotlight, but none of the men particularly stood out for me in this series (except dorian OBV)
The girl’s just stole the show— Aelin, Manon, Elide, Yrene, They were all so amazinggg

And, I love Manon, girllll, you slayyyyy
BUT OMG IM SO EXCITED FOR THIS.
Can we please just talk about how dorian was a total badass and seriously, about a hundred times more powerful than aelin. I havent read about a characters this compelling in ages.
Dorian’s character development was INSANE>
From the very first book to Kingdom of Ash, every single thing he went through led to this moment. Watching him master different powers, even learn shapeshifting, and grow from the sheltered prince we met in Throne of Glass into this was simply Glorious.

Oh boy, I cannot stop talking about him.He’s soo fine omg I’ve loved him since book one like I just knew he was going to become my favorite, and I was living for every Dorian scene. But after this book? Dorian Havilliard just became the greatest character alive.

Dorian and Manon. the most perfect characters <3 im so sad we didnt get the ending with them officially being togetherrr!!!

“Dorian’s magic writhed, seeking a way out, to stop this. But she had ordered him to stand down. And he’d obey.”

Dorian whirled to him. Chaol nodded, unable to find the words to convey what flooded his heart.” THE MOST MOST WHOLESOME MOMENT OF THE BOOK

AAAAAA OMGG WHATTTTT MY MAN MY MAN
“Tell Erawan, Dorian said, halting on the windowsill, that I did it for Adarlan.”

“Dorian had destroyed Morath.

I LOVE THIS SCENE SO SO MUCH (THE WRYDKEYS SCENE) AND DORIAN GOT ALL THE THREE KEYS AAAAHHJSSJSJ
The reveal that he had been playing the game right back at Maeve was one of the most satisfying moments in the entire series.
I was already down for this man, but now the change is irreversible
I hope that should be enough for dorian then. 👀😭


Also the second to last showdown, where dorian saw his father. 😭 oh boy, he was a good man then after all
This brought tears —
“His father’s name… Dorian.
I took his name, Erawan spat, writhing as the words flowed from his tongue under Damaris’s power.
I wiped it away from existence. Yet he only remembered it once. Only once. The first time he beheld you.
Tears slid down Dorian’s face at that unbearable truth.”


Talking about reunions,
the scene were chaos and aelin reuniteddd<3
But.. NOTHING. could have prepared me for the reunion of Dorian and Chaollll
“And as Chaol Westfall dismounted and ran the last few feet toward Dorian, the King of Adarlan wept.” *dher sare crying emojis*
Oh my gods IM CRYING BAD ITS THE BEST THING IN THE WORLDDDDD😭

And then came, THE FINAL REUNION
“Yet this parting, this final farewell …
Aelin looked at Chaol and Dorian and sobbed. Opened her arms to them, and wept as they held each other."
“I love you both,” she whispered. “And no matter what may happen, no matter how far we may be, that will never change.”

Also the fact it might be one of the very few romantasy’s where the original trio ended up with completely different randomly introduced partners. Usually two of the them always end up together and we’re left heartbroken for the one who didnt get the girl. So yeah i guess that was also a refreshing aspect of the book 😂

And.. SJM casually connecting this with the ACOTAR universe in two lines and moving on like nothing happened. THIS WAS FUN SPOTTING ON 🤭


With that we say goodbye to a journey that lasted a whole of 6 months to finish!! gave me some unforgettable moments— the badass girls in fantasy world energy, flirty dorian romance, also cheesy rowan romance, friendships like chaos & dorian, and celaena & nehemiah, soulmate kinda thing with elide and lorcan, and chaol and yrena, some amazing battles thru the sea, air and portals, 🪄witches🪄 and lots and lots of fae-magic storytelling

I really hope SJM stops writing repetitive stories tho 😭
While the characters kept me invested, the sheer amount of dense plot exposition and lore-heavy explanations became genuinely tiring to read at times
This book def could have been finished in lesser than 1000 pages, and the entire series in like 4 books maybe 🥲

I read The Court of Thorns and Roses first….Five stars…The Throne of Glass Series was also Five Stars…What an ending!…Loved the characters too! I’ll be starting the Crescent Series soon…Can’t wait! This author amazes me with her writing, details and imagination…I am in awe of her talent…Seriously, this is the first fantasy series I have ever read…and Wow! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ across the board…
