Aghhh! Those endpapers! I love them. In fact they would make a great phone case or even fabric (I see an apron!).
So, this isn’t just a cookbook. No siree bub. Before we swan dive into those recipes we get schooled on the oh so noteworthy folks of Stars Hollow. Then we get a cute little Gilmore Romance Tree (similar to a family tree). Adorable!
This book is jam packed with Gilmore Girls pics...the 00s clothes. Oh, how I miss them. The photos for the food are fabulous as well. My favorite by far is Sookie’s Wedding Cake and Cupcakes. Truly stunning.
The book also includes some rather popular quotes from the show sprinkled throughout. They are of course food related. There is this gem: “This is a jumbo coffee morning. I need coffee in an i.v.”.
Now, this is a true recipe book. The recipes are based on the show. Sure you’d be fine with the cookbook even if you never watched the show, as long as you eat like a Gilmore, or a Sookie, or a Mrs. Kim.
Disclaimer: I purchased the book solely for the fact it was Gilmore related. I eat super healthy (whole food, plant based) so I expected to need no post-it page tabs for this book. I was “sure” I’d find no recipes for me. I was wrong! I found 14. I’m thoroughly shocked and grateful.
When I first watched this show I chuckled at the way Mrs. Kim ate. I thought she was nuts. She was, but now I at least eat like her. So her recipes were a win and a pleasant surprise. I didn’t expect to find them within. But the Non-Mrs. Kim recipes also surprised me as I can alter them in some way.
Some recipes I’m looking forward to making with little or no alterations: * Sookie’s Critically Acclaimed Zucchini Soup * Mrs. Kim’s Eggless Egg Salad Sandwiches * Mrs. Kim’s Everything-Free Muffin Drops (no tea required as this version is not hard as a rock 😆) * Founder’s Day Punch * Mrs. Kim’s Extra Chunky Multigrain Pudding * Twix’s Spiced Nuts
And with some alterations here and there: * Lorelai’s Graduation Cake * Sookie’s Roasted Acorn Squash Soup
This was a rather lovely walk down memory lane. That was all I hoped for, instead a got a gaggle of fun recipes also. So impressed.
I used to be a big fan of Gilmore Girls but stopped watching the last few seasons when it became super melodramatic; Christopher kept showing up and everyone was getting married or didn't know they had a child.
That didn't mean I wasn't interested in checking out Gilmore Girls: The Official Cookbook because I always wanted to eat at Luke's since Lorelai and Rory were always hanging out there and the food did look good.
The recipes are broken down according to location; from what the Dragonfly Inn would offer (fancy dishes thanks to Sookie) to what you'll find at Luke's (lots of coffee, pancakes, burgers and fries) or at the Gilmore girls (lots of frozen foods).
Great photos of the dishes and from the show, which made me reminiscent of its early seasons.
I also appreciated how the authors listed the people of Stars Hollow since the rapport and chemistry of the actors and their characters also contributed to the success of the show.
GG & food?! Count me in! Love how the author included quotes from the show throughout the book as well as splitting it up based on location each food was featured in the show. Also love the character tree at the front of the book introducing each character & their relationship to the GG. The author seemed to think of everything a fan could want in a cookbook, & this GG fan can’t wait to dive in & make some comfort food & imagine I’m in cozy Stars Hallow, CT.🩷
Super cute cookbook that every GG fan who spends time in the kitchen needs. There are photos and quotes throughout that make the cookbook extra special and help us remember some great lines from the show. I enjoy the layout, but a few recipes don't have pictures, which I would've liked. I've already made a few of the recipes and look forward to making more. There is a very helpful dietary consideration page and glossary in the back. Now if only coffee did come in an IV I could make all the recipes in a few days 😉 .
I loved this book. I love how detailed it is. I literally just sat down and went through everything. If you’re a big Gilmore Girls fan definitely something to check out. So many yummy things I can’t wait to try.
This was so much fun to read! Any good Gilmore Girls fan will love to look through this and enjoy the variety of different recipes. It was fun and just an enjoyable cookbook!
Any Gilmore Girls fan would love this book! The recipes had very specific references but also looked so delish and were some staple home cooked recipes throughout.
Mention the early 2000s Amy Sherman-Palladino episodic series “Gilmore Girls” and most every woman in their late 30s/early 40s will brighten with glee. This demographic is still binge viewing the show for the 800th time even 20 years later. It’s me. I’m one of these women. I was/am utterly obsessed with “Gilmore Girls” and was living a parallel life with the character of bookish Rory as I was the exact age as Alexis Bledel’s on-screen teenager during the show’s airing. Flash forward 20 years and I have now surpassed her mother, Lorelai, in age (head trip!) played by Lauren Graham. One of the reoccurring themes of the spit-fire, fast-talking show set in fictional Stars Hollow, Connecticut is: food. From junk food eating Rory and Lorelai, Luke’s Diner, Friday night dinners with Richard and Emily and everything in between; the Gilmores loved to eat! Fans can take a food journey with GG in, “Gilmore Girls: The Official Cookbook” collaborated by Elena P. Craig and Kristen Mulrooney.
Like its peers in the Hollywood television-inspired cookbook genre; “Gilmore Girls: The Official Cookbook” is a hard-cover, high-resolution colorful graphic feast exuding charm and whimsy with tie-ins to the series that will satisfy hard-core fans. However, this is where comparisons end and “Gilmore Girls: The Official Cookbook” ups the ante and surpasses the crowd. Unlike other similar cookbooks in which recipes are inspired by characters or episodes of their respective show; “Gilmore Girls” featured actual food, meals and restaurants and thus “Gilmore Girls: The Official Cookbook” highlights these dishes bringing the series to life through food. Readers are transported to Stars Hollow and beyond – such as to Yale with Rory – and feel as though they are frolicking alongside the characters.
“Gilmore Girls: The Official Cookbook” is divided into chapters on a topical basis (Luke’s Diner, The Independence Inn/ The Dragonfly Inn/Sookie St. James’s Creations, A Stars Hollow Potluck, Lorelai and Rory’s House, Beyond Stars Hollow) with each recipe exploring an actual food item from an episode. Accompanied with laugh-out-loud introduction summaries by Craig and Mulrooney with references all fans will remember and notable script quotes; “Gilmore Girls: The Official Cookbook” is truly a fan’s dream come true. The recipes cover a satisfying array of silly to more high-end and a smorgasbord of beverages, appetizers, salad, soups, entrees and desserts. Although some of the recipes follow more intricate instructions; all are easy-to-understand and with accessible ingredients to the average cook. Also helpful are the beautiful food-porn images paired with the majority of the recipes.
Craig and Mulrooney’s “Gilmore Girls: The Official Cookbook” is not without some weaknesses, however. The authors are slightly inconsistent in recipe detail with some reading as vague while others are overly detailed. For example, four different methods for pasta dough production in a single recipe using a variety of kitchen gadgets are not unusual while the next recipe may essentially be two steps. The recipes would have also benefited from additional information such as listed prep/cook times at a glance and nutritional facts. Even though “Gilmore Girls: The Official Cookbook” doesn’t diminish in value without these supplements; they would have strengthened the collection.
Gilmore fans will also be disappointed by the absence of excessive “Gilmore Girls” photos, tidbits and bonuses but this is a cookbook, after all, and not a behind-the-scenes tome concerning the series.
Craig and Mulrooney conclude “Gilmore Girls: The Official Cookbook” with fortifications including dietary considerations regarding the original preparations, glossary of terms, measurement conversions and a space for reader notes.
“Gilmore Girls: The Official Cookbook” is not necessarily a culinary adventure but it is a delightful romp that brings the nostalgia of “Gilmore Girls” to life. “Gilmore Girls: The Official Cookbook” is thus recommended for all GG fans and is most certain to induce laughter and joy.
Ah! This cookbook!! I’m in. I’m all in. The creative team did a great job with this — it’s chockful of photos, quotes, and insider lines that only fans of GG will recognize. I also was delighted to see they included more than a dozen vegan recipes, which I wasn’t expecting at all. If you have a Gilmore Girl fan in your life, buy them this cookbook—even if they don’t like cooking, they’ll love it.
Gilmore Girls is the famous comedy-drama television series created by Amy Sherman-Palladino (known for other well-known comedy-dramas like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) that featured Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore and Alexis Bledel as Rory Gilmore, mother, and daughter, respectively. The two have great dialogue with their hometown's wacky and soulful residents of Stars Hollow. The show, famous for its witty banter and effective mix of humor and drama, debuted in 2000 and ran for seven seasons. Although there has been a significant passing of time, the fandom for this TV series looms large!
It’s not surprising that the Gilmore Girls Official Cookbook came out to rave reviews last spring. This book has done well for a good reason; there is more here than a simple nod to a TV show’s fandom. There are some great recipes here, and I had great fun pouring through this comprehensive and expansive work.
If you have been watching the show, you immediately know why there would be a cookbook based on the series. If you have not, you would be asking that very question. Food plays a big part in the show, and many of the scenes with the two main characters and others are centered around meals, either a burger at Luke’s Diner or a sit-down meal at their elder families' dinner table on Fridays.
The book covers food from many of the cherished locations of Stars Hollow. Fans will remember the Dragonfly Inn, Weston’s Bakery, Al’s Pancake World, Luke’s Diner, and Emily and Richard’s dinner table for Friday night dinners. Fans can recreate over 50 iconic dishes from episodes they love with this great cookbook, from Sookie’s Risotto to Mrs. Kim’s Flaxseed Muffins.
This official cookbook also includes more than recipes. There are cooking tips from Sookie, hosting tips from Michel, etiquette tips from Emily Gilmore, and wisdom from Lorelai and Rory for cooking fast and talking faster. There is nothing but fun in this cookbook, and I’ve often smiled turning pages to unexpected trivia, photos, or memories of the show.
The first chapter is based on Luke's Diner. This chapter features the classic Hot Fudge Sundae with grapefruit on the side, Luke’s Special Omlet, the hilarious but yummy Santa Burger, the well-named named Danish Day-Danishes, and the yummy Ceasar’s Chilequiles, which I’ve made and recommend.
Chapter Two is based on the food of the Independence Inn, The Dragonfly Inn, & Sookie St. Jame’s Creations. Here we have Roquefort Puffs, Jackson’s Blueberry Shortcakes, Sookie’s Magic Risotto, Deep fried Turkey Leg, Medieval Feast Plum Pudding, Sookie’s Critically Acclaimed Zucchini Soup, Sookie’s Roasted Acorn Squash Soup, Norman Mailer’s Legendary Iced Tea
Chapter Three: The Star’s Hollow Potluck has some healthier offerings from the character Mrs. Kim. You have Mrs. Kim’s Eggless Egg Salad Sandwiches, Mrs. Kim’s Everything-Free Muffin Drops- and Tea, Mrs. Kim’s Extra Chunky Multigrain Pudding, Lane’s Wedding Dumplings, Cashew Chicken, Ye Olde Butter Brickle Crunch Ice Cream, Beef Noodle Salad, Shrimp from Al’s Pancake World and much more.
The last portion is Chapter Four: Lorelai and Rory’s House. There are lots of sweets on board here, comforting and fun. Home Made Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies, Homemade Edible Cookie Dough (As in it’s meant to be eaten raw.) Rory’s Pretzels from around the world, Dessert Sushi, Cream Puffs for Hands.
I think you will love this book even if you have never watched The Gillmore Girls. If you have not watched the show, this book could make you binge it in a few weeks. The book is cleverly written and is full of great photos from the TV show. I highly recommend this book, and it would make a great gift for any TV addict in your life.
Gilmore Girls: The Official Cookbook is a must-have for any fans of the Gilmore Girls series.
Let’s just say I was super happy on Christmas morning when I unwrapped one of my presents and realized I got this book from Santa. I adore Gilmore Girls. I watched the series faithfully as a teenager and love re-watching it as an adult. So, you can imagine how excited I was when I saw that there was a Gilmore Girls cookbook coming out. Any fan of the show will know how important food talk is in this series. This book is everything I could have hoped for.
When you first open up the book, you get to step back into the world of Stars Hollow. The first few pages are filled with fun facts about the show and the characters. Reading these pages made it feel like I was catching up with old friends. It had me itching to sit down and start watching the show again.
If you are a foodie like I am, then you are going to love the wide variety of recipes in this book. The pictures make everything look delicious, and the recipes are easy to follow. This cookbook can be used by anyone, no matter your skill level with cooking. You have your sweet, simple burger or pancake recipes from Luke’s Diner. Or you have your complex pastry or cake recipes created by Sookie. This book is special because each recipe has a small paragraph or dialogue excerpt that connects that particular dish or drink to the show. Just flipping through the pages of this book is like revisiting some of my favourite scenes from the show.
Gilmore Girls The Official Cookbook is a fun and delicious treat that I would highly recommend you add to your cookbook collection.
No i ta wklejka, cudowna ilustracja.
Oh what fun to revisit Stars Hollow and it's residents! I thoroughly enjoyed reminders of all the characters I so enjoyed. Reading this cookbook made me want to rewatch the series.
The recipes are grouped by person/place. For example, there's a section for Luke's Diner, of course, and also one for Friday Night Dinners, among others.
Unfortunately, the recipes are all definitely more complicated than Lorelei or Rory (or me) would attempt. Like, one calls for you to make your own pasta! I am sure that following the instructions to the letter will yield perfect look-alike food to what we see in the show. But I don't know if all the recipes capture the spirit of the show. If that makes sense? And only a few recipes are photographed.
While I enjoyed the trip down memory lane (there are a few quotes scattered throughout to help take you right back to Stars Hollow), I only found one recipe that I was interested in trying.
Całości dopełniają ulubione cytaty i kadry z serialu.
Pełno tu wstawek i dialogów bohaterów.
I thought this book was pretty great when it first came out, but since then it's been beaten out by... well, a lot, actually. For one, a new cookbook has come out recently, "Sookie's Recipe Book" or something similar. This book walked so Sookie's could run. Not only does this one not have key, direct references that make the recipes relevant to a repeat watcher, a lot of the recipes don't really play into the show at all. Sookie's does. Every sinle page is filled with references, advice, and things that make the cooking much more fun! And, frankly, this book doesn't offer a lot of options. There's some variety in the food, but a lot of it is just pretty basic things you could get out of any other cookbook on the shelf. It doesn't really make sense in a themed cookbook.
„Gilmore Girls. Oficjalna książka kucharska” to absolutny must-have dla każdego fana „Kochanych kłopotów”.
for what it is, it’s done well. the grouping of the recipes by location and iconic quotes and menu items sprinkled in are something this Gilmore Girls fan ate right up. some of the recipes are a stretch, or something i’d totally never eat, however - iconic to the show. the character snippets, book introduction, and cute doodles and icons were a pleasant surprise. i think the main thing i’ll cook are Luke’s pancakes, otherwise it’s essentially a decoration for my shelf. cute cookbook and happy i got it as a gift! would get for my other GG fans
So so fun. Food is such a central part of the entire series. They did such a good job to include the iconic foods of the show. The blurbs before each recipe were so fun and evoked memories from so many fun scenes. I haven’t tried any recipes but they seem thought out and delicious. It’s a beautiful book perfect for any GG lover.
My only wish is that they would’ve included a recipe for a picnic basket lunch. The picnic bidding episode is one of my faves.
I love this! I'm a huge Gilmore Girls fan and it brought me right back to the show. I was curious to see what recipes were in it since Lorelai and Rory eat out a lot in the show. I was pleasantly surprised and I like that a lot of the recipes are easy every day meals and nothing too fancy. I'm excited to try them out!
I loved that this isn't *just* a cookbook. Alongside the recipes are all your favourite people from Stars Hollow. It's similar to going home again, where the coffee is hot and the company is comforting.
While there is a fantastic selection of recipes, it would have been great to have a few more from "Richard and Emily" as they used to serve some pretty epic Friday night dinners.
I ummed and aahed about getting this because I'd read Eat Like A Gilmore, but I love how pretty this looks on my bookshelf in my growing 'official' cookbook collection. There are tons of recipes I want to try and feed to my family. I adore the quotes from the series and the pictures from the show. I still wish Stars Hollow was a real place. It's a town on my fictional bucket list for sure.
It's probably a fun book to have if you are a fan. I liked the snack ideas, which were a shout-out to all the times the girls have sat on the couch wallowing. I would maybe make a few of the ideas on here for an everyday meal, but really, unless I was hosting a Gilmore Girls theme party, I don't think I would make most of the recipes in here.
