Krewe of Hunters #35.5

Haunted House: A Krewe of Hunters Novella

Rate this book
From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Heather Graham comes a new story in her Krewe of Hunters series…

Halloween! Strange things are going to happen and every year, while loving the holiday, members of the Krewe of Hunters also dread it.

Something somewhere is bound to happen.

And it does.

Krewe member Jon Dickson’s fiancée Kylie Connelly is contacted by an old friend who has just moved to Salem, Massachusetts, when the unimaginable happens as the holiday approaches.

Jenny Auger has just managed to buy the historic home of her dreams. But it comes with far more history than she ever imagined—the skeletal remains of seven victims interred in the old walls of the house years and years before—along with a threatening curse.

And strange things are happening in the city. Bizarre attacks…murders that mimic days of old.

With Halloween on the way.

Kylie has a history with the city of Salem, and her strange talent for being within the minds of those under attack—first realized in the city—remains sharp.

But the situation is far more dire than what they have discovered, with strange events and attacks occurring.

And with all their talent for crime solving—with help from the living and the dead—it still remains to be seen if they can solve the murders of the past before Halloween, and the bloodbath that just might occur if the sins of a time gone by cannot be brought to light.

Loved spending Halloween with old friends even if it was a brief visit (yes that is my way of saying a novella read lol)

Kylie and Jon are back in Salem at the request of Kylie's friend Brenda who just bought the old Brim House and unbeknownst to her at the time all its skeletons 💀

As you might expect this was full of suspense and little supernatural tidbits - Oh and the final twist in the mystery?
Yeah nice try you are going to have to delve into this mystery on your own to get that answer

Another fabulous addition to the 1001 collection and a spot on holiday addition to Graham's Krewe of Hunter series

⭐⭐⭐⭐
Haunted House was a nice, bite-sized story to get me in the mood for Halloween. This was a unique mystery that can easily be read as a standalone. It is part of the author's Krewe of Hunters series. They are a ghost hunting team with member, Jon Dickson, also being an FBI agent. His wife, Kylie, is also on the team with a new gift that can help them solve the mystery in this book.
Jenny Auger, Kylie's friend, has just bought Brim House, a historic home in Salem, Massachusetts. She is surprised to learn there are skeletal remains of seven victims hidden within the walls of the house. She gives Kylie a call, hoping her team can come and investigate. Maybe they can solve the murders that took place in the 1700s. Kylie has a new gift that occurs while she is sleeping. She will "wake up" and be inside the mind of either the victim or the killer. I hadn't ever come across that before. It kept me intrigued throughout.
The surprising twists kept me invested and I loved getting all the different clues, hoping I could figure out who did it. I enjoyed the whole experience even if some parts were a little predictable. If I have time, I may dive into this author's other books in this series. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

A quick, fun read for Halloween. Some spoiler-ish details in my review.

Good Halloween-themed murder mystery set in Salem, MA, with roots of the current murders dating back to the 1700s. The protagonists are FBI agent Jon Dickson and his wife, Kylie Connelly Dickson. Like many Krewe members, Jon sees and talks with ghosts, but Kylie has an odd, almost outré, supernatural gift/talent which manifests whilst she’s asleep.

SPOILER-ISH BITS next paragraph:
*

Kylie wakes in dreams but in other people’s bodies—in murder victims or their killers. She knows, feels, and sees through them—whilst they are doing the same. Ummm.

Yes, I had problems with this specific gift—psychological, philosophical, and neurological issues. Furthermore, about 80% in, the scope of Kylie’s gift escalated fantastically, as does her control. I won’t elaborate further.

The crime fiction storyline was clever, but I chose the main villain about midway; and I guessed the secondary villain soon after. I did wonder if author Heather Graham will invent increasingly unusual supernatural powers as this series continues.

2.5 stars due to to believability issues, but overall 3 stars, because the storyline was solid.

1001 Dark Knights is an assortment of stories, all stand-alone and all different, written by various talented authors.  Haunted House by Heather Graham is just the latest to be added to this collection.  Bad things are happening in Salem, Massachusetts and its up to Jon Dickson and his new wife Kylie to stop the madness.  I loved reading this novella that brought back two of my favorite characters from the Krewe of Hunters series.   There is a lot of mischief and suspense that builds quickly and keeps you hanging on, and don’t forget the surprise twist at the end.  WOW, I was totally blown away from the twists and turns this short story offered and couldn’t wait to see how it ended.  I have always loved Heather Graham’s Krewe of Hunters series and how the paranormal meets crime fighting.  If you want murder, mystery and mayhem without a lot of the strong sexual undertones….ya know just a good suspense story, then Haunted House welcomes you to the Krewe of Hunters.  5-stars for Haunted House by Heather Graham.

When it comes to Halloween fun, does any place do it better than Salem, Massachusetts? In this haunting novella, Kylie develops a new psychic skill that both terrifies and excites her. This skill comes in handy when her friend, Jenny gives her a call and begs for some help. All is not well in Salem during Halloween weekend.

This was a short and sweet peek at Kylie and Jon’s life a year in the future after the end of their book. I enjoyed seeing how Kylie is honing her new skills with Jon’s help and the mystery is good. There’s no way to say anything about the plot itself without being a spoiler so I’ll just say it’s a great Halloween season read.

Scary things are happening in Salem, Massachusetts. When Kylie's friend Brenda finally purchases the home she's always dreamed of in historic Salem, dead bodies in the walls were not disclosed on the purchase agreement. Kylie and her FBI agent husband, Jon Dickson know they need to leave Virginia and head to Salem to help Brenda figure out who the bodies are why they are there. As they investigate, weird events continue to escalate and danger continues to escalate. Kylie and Jon need to solve this mystery before more bodies show up.

Haunted House was a suspenseful and action-packed story. The length of the novella was short enough to be read in a short time span, yet long enough to provide character development and allow a newbie to get a taste of the series. I enjoyed the author's writing style and world-building. I was able to visualize everything scene like I was there. Kylie and Jon are likable characters. Both are competent, strong, and capable investigators. The story was engaging and I enjoyed every minute.

3.5 stars.

This couple, Jon and Kylie met in Seeing Darkness. This time, they are back in Salem days before Halloween. One of Kylie's friend, has discovered a skeleton and a body in her newly purchased house. It's a house well-known in Salem to be haunted.

Kylie's "ability" is being able to see through the eyes of others. Hitherto, she had no control over who they are and is usually asleep when it happens. But through this story, her ability evolves. Both Jon and Kylie were also helped by a ghost they know in the area. That is pretty much standard modus operandi now for this series.

This is just the right short story for Halloween.

It's Halloween and strange things are happening ~ especially in Salem. Kylie, who's married to FBI Krewe member Jon, gets a call from her friend, Brenda, asking for help. Brenda just bought a historic house in Salem, one she's dreamed of owning, but her first night there, a false wall comes down revealing skeletal remains and a body. Kylie and Jon arrive in Salem to help, but it may take otherworldly assistance to solve the case.

I love the Krewe of Hunters series and I really enjoyed this novella. The book was well-written with wonderful characters. It was a quick, fun read that drew me in from the beginning and kept hooked throughout. It's an excellent paranormal mystery that'll keep you on your toes. I highly recommend it.

H House by H. Graham is part of the 1001 DNights and part of the Krewe of Hunters World.

Jon Dickson, a Krewe memeber and his fiancée Kylie Conelly are friends with Jenny Auger for a long time.
Jenny just bought her dreamhome in Salem, MS. Only that soon turns into a pnr/ sci/fi scenario of its finest. To top it off, Halloween is approaching with big, big steps.
Kylie, Jon and Jenny have their work laid out for them.
HH is a fast paced, action packed novella, a stand-alone and at the same time the introduction in the whole Krewe world. A fantastic, halloween-ish read, 5 stars.

The 1001 Dark Night series provides novellas from different authors - this gives you a taste of what to expect from the rest of the authors work.

As it is the month of Halloween what a great place to start your eerie reads!
This short novella is part of the Krewe of Hunters Series.
I have never read a Heather Graham book - I would maybe give her full length novels a try but found this novella was enough to get into the spooky mood!
There are ghosts, skeletons, agents and a physic of sorts... I guess what more could you ask for in this trope!

Extremely intense and riveting!!

Another FANTASTIC Krewe mystery from a PHENOMENAL
author! Once I started reading this series I've never been
disappointed with any of the books. They grab your attention
right from the beginning and hold it throughout the entire
book. There are twists and turns aplenty and each mystery
is full of history pertaining to whatever location they're at.
I absolutely love this the Krewe of Hunters series! It keeps
you guessing and on your toes to the very end. A series
like no other!!!!!!

Truly enjoyed reading this novella. It was my first in the series to read, though it is a standalone, I will definitely be reading more.
A murder mystery that takes place in Salem, Massachusetts. Kylie goes there to help her friend after finding an old skeleton and body in the wall of a home she just bought. The home has a history, as the story takes you to the past for an old crime to help solve the modern day murders.
The novella has ghosts, witches, murder, romance and an unexpected ending. Plus it takes place during Halloween. A Wonderful quick read.

This novella follows repeat characters from “Seeing Darkness” - book 30 in the series. I went back to research to confirm as the main characters and their storyline sounded familiar.

It unsettled me that the realtor - Mandy Nichols - had information readily available for Jon. She only met Kylie at the café and Kylie never told Mandy about a husband or that he was FBI. Yet. Mandy seemed to know when they visited her at her office... which confirmed one culprit.

I actually liked this novel. I guessed the one culprit but not the second.

3.5 out of 5 stars

Kylie & Jon are married and living happily in DC when Kylie has another dream. This time she's with a friend back in Salem as she discovers bodies hidden behind a false wall in her new house. They rush back to Salem to assist the local police who have been investigating strange disappearances that have been occurring recently.
Someone is taking revenge for a decades-old crime that occurred in this supposedly haunted house. One body has been hidden there for a long time and has the answers to a decades-long murder mystery. This crime requires some research by Krewe members and the discovery of a long family tree.
I was surprised by the identity of one of the two killers responsible but it does make sense when you think about it. People do crazy things for love and other people will take advantage of people's weaknesses. Still, it's crazy how they quickly turned on each other in the end. A surprise and a shocker.

In this novella we get to see Jon and his wife Kylie again when they end up in Salem trying to help solve a mystery and help a friend out. There are a lot of twists, turns, and unsuspecting moments but that is expected when you have The Krewe members around. I don’t want to give too much away because the readers should experience the suspense themselves and enjoy the ride. It has the perfect combination of paranormal and suspense. A fun way to kick off the Halloween Season.

A perfect read for the Halloween season.
How would you feel if you could see things through the eyes of another? Okay, now what if you seen through a murders eyes? I'm really not sure if I would want that gift, yet it makes for a fantastic read. Now add a house with a haunted history in Salem and staying in it while do an investigation.
Heather Graham has written a eerie holiday read with some really wonderful characters, a bit of sexy time, and a puritan ghost. So much fun to be had!

Haunted happenings

This is a fun who done it just in time for Halloween. The Krewe is on hand in the case of one agent and his spouse who also sees the dead. But Kylie also can see through other people eyes and this gift plays a major role. The writing is fun and story moves quick. The ending was partially surprising, but I had figured part of it out. As always a good blend of history and paranormal!

I love these novellas

Kylie has the ability to enter someone’s body and mind. Usually, it just happens but under stress… you never know how far she can go. Her husband Jon is a member of the Krew of Hunters and they are perfectly matched. Kylie and Jon return to Salem to help an old friend whose house is supposedly haunted. There is a murderer on the lose and needs to be found before another innocent person dies. A fast, exciting read!

Kylie and Jon together for a year now and both are as happy as any two married people can be. Kylie has adjusted well to her new talent. Jenny Auger, a friend, buys a historic home, the house of her dreams. But the house is said to be haunted, and an old Skelton is found in the walls covering a newer dead body, and the mystery begins. Can the case be solved before the murders continue? Can an old friend, a ghost, Jon as been friends with ever since he discovered his talent help solve this one?

Another Excellent Krewe of Hunters story. I love her ghost stories especially those that take place in Salem. Someone is killing the decedents of a person who lived and died during the Salem witch era. One body was found in a large pumpkin and another in the walls of a house during Haunted Happenings. Great read.

FBI and Krewe member, Jon Dickson is in Salem with his wife, Kylie Connelly, responding to a mysterious death. A body has been found in the walls of a historic house that belongs to Kylie's friend, Brenda. Can they find the killer and close the case before anyone else dies?

I am a huge fan of the Krewe of Hunters series - the paranormal aspects, the mystery, the suspense, the romance. It's my catnip. LOL And the 1,001 Dark Nights novellas are a perfect length when I need a great story, but I don't have alot of time. I highly recommend this book and series.

Many thanks to Social Butterfly PR, Bookfunnel, and 1,001 Dark Nights-Blue Box Press for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.
