This truly is a treasure! Between the covers of this treasury are stories about 50 of history’s most amazing people. You will read about each life, complete with fears, struggles, triumphs, and dreams that made each one great. The selection includes writers, mathematicians, activists, leaders, scientists, doctors, educators, explorers, designers, painters, aviators, performers, athletes, broadcasters, naturalists, and humanitarians. It has been split into 5 eras in history (1790-1885, 1885 – 1920, 1920 – 1940, 1940 – 1947, 1947 – 2003), each focussing on 10 amazing people. Each of the 50 write-ups includes a colour illustration, a timeline with illustrations, and a summary of their accomplishments. The book includes a glossary, an index, and an activity for your little dreamer to write about his/herself.

My 8 ½-year-old niece loved this format! The colourful timelines with illustrations kept her absorbed for quite a while and the one-page summaries were the perfect length to pique her interest. It is organized so that readers can choose how long they want to be involved in the treasury; for those who have just a little time, there’s the opportunity to read about just one person and for those with more time, it’s possible to read the whole era of ten great lives.

I’m going to venture to say that this is the best children’s treasury I’ve ever read!

Little People, Big Dreams: Treasury: 50 Stories from Brilliant Dreamers is a children's picture anthology of mini-biographies written by Isabel Sánchez Vegara and illustrated by various artists. It is a collection of fifty tributes to several influential dreamers around the world.

For the most part, this treasury is written and constructed extremely well – it is far from perfect, but comes rather close. Arranged chronological from Mary Shelley in 1790 to Greta Thunberg in 2003, these fifty mini-biographies covers four pages: to the left is an updated text from their original books with the cover portrait centered on the right, which is followed by a two-page timeline of the person in question’s life, which could be found in each book's endnotes. Essentially, this treasury is a collection of fifty children books into one – just without the illustrations of the various artists.

Vegara had chosen fifty influential people throughout time that has helped or currently helping to shape the world. People chosen come from diverse fields from activists, writers, suffragists, scientists, explorers, doctors, civil rights leaders, conservationists, celebrities, and many more.

All in all, Little People, Big Dreams: Treasury: 50 Stories from Brilliant Dreamers is a wonderful collection of inspirational dreamers, who have changed or currently changing the world.

5☆ A Superb Treasury of Inspirational People throughout History. A Must Read!

I am a big fan of this gorgeous series of children's books. If you haven't yet seen the books then I highly recommend you do.

This time round this amazing book is a Treasury full of influential people throughout history to present day, that has helped shape the world. Whether it be Activists, Writers, Womens Rights, Scientists, Explorers, Doctors, Civil Rights Leaders, Conservationists, Actors/Singers etc...

Each Person has their own short biography then a time line written with pictures and text.
I absolutely loved this idea as not only are you getting to read about each person, you are also seeing how they achieved incredible things throughout the years.
Spanning from 1790 - Present Day.

I have learnt so much already from this book. I have discovered people I hadn't ever heard of and learnt new things about people I was already familiar with.

The information is just the right length, I loved the added additions of pictures and illustrations for each person, and also the one memorable & inspirational quote from each person was a lovely touch.

Little People, BIG DREAMS: Treasury should be featured in all schools as I think this book has such a variety of inspirational individuals, that it's very empowering and educational, in a fun and engaging way.

As I said before if you haven't yet had the pleasure of reading these wonderful collections, then I highly recommend you start with this book!
It has something for everyone and is truly a beautiful book suitable for adults and children, and would make a lovely gift.

Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group and Netgalley for my copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This is such an amazing book. I love that 50 Incredibly Talented People from 1790-2003 are highlighted. Each person is unique and often was considered different or odd growing up. Somehow, they found the ability to stand up for their passion in life and changed the world.

This shows how great it is to be a diverse group of people from all over the world. Different Ideas and Life Experiences are what make for great ideas and abilities. This makes for a beautiful world and new ways of thinking need to be celebrated.

Each person has a passion for something in life. I think this is the most essential element to make dreams become reality. So, this is wonderful for children, but I really enjoyed this an an adult, too. There were so many ground breaking leaders that I learned from. I discovered many new facts about the people featured.

The ending was terrific, with the 51st person being the reader. Some child will fill in their name and dream and of course that will turn into reality one day and bring something new that we can not even know about now. The is the wonder of our children, who will shape the future with new ideas and talent.

Fantastic Photographs bring the people to life. Just an exceptional book.

Thank you NetGalley, Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for a copy of this book.

This book provides a short insight into the lives of 50 extraordinary women and men, starting with writer Mary Shelley (born 225 years ago) and ending with activist Greta Thunberg.

For each of the "brilliant dreamers" there is a short biographical essay, a portrait and a timeline with the most important events in their lives. Of course this includes only the most basic facts, but it is a very good starting point for children to get familiar with some very important people of the last centuries.

Celebrating a whopping fifty volumes of the Little People, Big Dreams series, comes this gallery of the greats as a special variant. Now, each and every volume before now has told its story twice – once with the simple text on the pictorial pages, and then again later on, more for the educator or the older reader. I think what we have here is a third draft – I can't recognise any of the contents as what's been produced before, meaning while all the people featured are returning characters, the writing is novel to this.

The format is suitably encyclopaedic, with dates and place of birth and death, and the person's story, all on page one, and their portrait and a quote on the next. Overleaf, a much more pictorial timeline is yet another way of educating us, and here things really shine. Having made the whole book into chronological order, we can see overlaps and progression throughout history, meaning this is not just a collection of biographies. Ada Lovelace (our second life here) is being born on the timeline of the first, because her errant father was Byron and under his watch said first person, Mary Shelley, thought up Frankenstein. But Ada herself has a guest on her timeline, from way in her future – Alan Turing. Thus lives from way back are shown to have an effect on more recent times, and we can see how people, to borrow the old saw, stand on the shoulders of giants.

That's always been the philosophy of this series, and in reducing the need for really naff artwork, and for bringing us the weave of history through these lives, this splendid spin on the whole previous fifty is much more than a reproduction or summary of the books so far. It's a really fine entity in itself.

My thanks to Quarto Group - Francis Lincoln Children’s Books for a temporary digital edition via NetGalley of ‘Little People BIG DREAMS Treasury’ by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara in exchange for an honest review.

I am a huge fan of the publishers’ series of mini-biographies, so was intrigued by this Treasury that compiles 50 individual profiles. All but three were written by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara with the others written by Lizbeth Kaiser. The Treasury is listed for readers aged 9-12 years old and the individual profiles have been rewritten to be appropriate for this older readership.

The Treasury is set out in five distinct historical periods each containing ten profiles of noted artists, designers, musicians, activists, actors, sports people, politicians, writers and the like.

The layout follows a set pattern of four pages for each profile. The first page contains the revised summary for each dreamer and on its opposite page a portrait illustration accompanied by an inspirational quote. The next two pages show a personal timeline with more text and both illustrations and photographs (or portraits for the earlier profiles) at key dates.

Following the profiles there is a glossary, an index, and picture credits for each profile.

This was an inspiring collection that was a pleasure to read through. Along with those parents and the like seeking to encourage young readers in nonfiction, this book is bound to also be of interest to educators and librarians.

Highly recommended.

I was not familiar with these series, but this volume was something that every parent of young children needs to have in their home. Not all kids (or adults) love history but talking about historical personalities and events can be fun and engaging, something this book really bring to the table. There are a few contemporary personalities within its pages, but most of them are people from the past who greatly influenced the way we see our world today. The little ones will discover men and women (former children who dreamed big) from every field: sports, religion, education, entertainment, fashion, politics, activism, science, literature, even spies. Not only will their story serve as inspiration, but they will enrich general knowledge.

They are all listed in chronological order. Every mini biography is followed by a timeline on two pages that contains notable events in chronological order, as well as real photos of the personality that it focuses on. The illustrations are highly creative as well. The end of the book has two pages where your child can write information about themselves, so they can feel like they are part of this group of dreamers. The volume contains a glossary and an index.

I highly recommend it not just for parents, but for adults who want to learn a lot of history in a short amount of time. It's an easy, concise read that might offer intelectual enrichment to readers of any age.

We adore the Little People Big Dreams picture books so when I saw this anthology for older children I was certain I would love it. And I was right!

Shown in chronolgical order each double page spread of the shares a short biography of the influential person's life, followed by a full page spread in portrait style of the individual. The next double-page then features a timeline of their life and often details a connection to one of the other individual in the book - either where their lives may have overlapped or a connection to someone else doing something inspired by, or similar to the others' achievements. I really enjoyed this weaving and linking of the stories.

Capturing all the magic of the stories told in the picture books, this anthology is a truly wonderful read. From activists to scientists to artists to explorers to musicians and more, there is a huge variety of interests and passions under the spotlight. The variety of illustrations throughout by the different illustrators is fascinating and really brings to life the uniqueness of each individual. The writing is engaging and lively and will make readers want to learn more about the lives of the influential people included.

Loosely divided into groups by year of birth, there are mini bios of people who made a difference in their time as well as now and beyond. Beginning with Mary Shelley and Ada Lovelace and moving right along to Malala Yousafzai and Greta Thunberg, each one presents a brief overview of the life and followed by a graphic timeline of accomplishments. There are dreamers of every color and many nationalities presented for opportunities to learn and grow.
This is a compilation of stories for adults to read with children and for ESL to polish their English and learn about people who have shaped their world. The whole ends with a glossary and index. (as well as credits)
The illustrations that are mostly simple and forthright as created by Lisbeth Kaiser.

Little People Big Dreams Treasury by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is a collection of 50 of the LPBD books, including Maya Angelou, Elton John, David Attenborough, and Amelia Earhart, among many more!

I appreciate that the author handled certain parts of people's lives with gentleness and compassion. That's been the case with many of the people who've been covered in this series.

The entire Little People, Big Dreams series is an awesome introduction to biographical reading for young audiences. Not only that, but they focus on the most inspirational of people from science, entertainment, sports, politics and more. It's also a very diverse series.

At the end is a section with more detailed information on life, suitable for older readers. Inspirational and educational both, this entire series is great, and full of delightful art to engage younger audiences! Highly recommended!

I received an electronic ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books through NetGalley.
Sanchez Vegara shares about fifty important people in history who believed in and pursued their dreams. They have enriched lives for generations. Broken into time blocks, the author takes readers through people who lived at approximately the same time in each section. She includes a one page summary of each life along with an illustration, quote and timeline of their life. I love the final space for a 51st dreamer that encourages readers to write about themselves and their own hopes and dreams.
A definite must for families to read together.

Terrific little treasury of varied and diverse people from history; from scientists, artists, activists, writers and sportspeople who have contributed to our world in their own unique way. I particularly liked the way it's laid out, categorised first by time period and then a synopsis of the individual and then a timeline of their life and important events. Being a visual person I liked seeing it spread out this way and it makes it easier for children to develop their understanding of their lives.

This book has everything you need for children at home or at school to learn about some of the world's most important figures.
It has artists, inventors, women's rights, figures that battled and overcame racism and the list goes on.
The stories are all encapsulated in one thick tome and each story is illustrated differently - so no two stories look the same.

A beautiful and inspiring book.

Originally posted on my blog: Nonstop Reader.

Treasury: 50 Stories from Brilliant Dreamers is a beautifully curated collection of 50 short biographies from the Little People, Big Dreams creators aimed at a slightly older audience (7+). Due out 9th Nov 2021 from Quarto on their Frances Lincoln Children's imprint, it's 224 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.

These stories are entertaining, enlightening, and important. They give age-appropriate backgrounds and biographies of iconic scientists, sports and cultural icons, inventors, and artists throughout the modern era, grouped chronologically from 1790 to the modern day.

Five stars. This would make a superlative reading circle book, classroom or public library book, or gift. I'm impressed by the way this series always manages to provide age appropriate biography without emphasizing or detracting from the racism, professional sexism, and troubles the subjects lived through. This would make a great starting point for deeper research for young readers who are interested in STEM subjects, arts, natural history, literature, music, sports, or political history.
