OHKUBO Atsushi

Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.

Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.

It was a great volume in general. I said it before but Arthur's whole imagination thing is super smart and I've never heard or seen it before. Though he is mostly weak because of his imagination (by weak I mean weaker because he is still super strong) but it also means his power has unlimited potential. As a Knight, he faces his biggest enemy: Dragon. This volume is full of action and cool fights. I also really like the 8th being outlaws and fighting like vigilantes.

scratching my nails against a chalkboard to get everyone to understand how much i love this series. the art alone is just absolutely incredible, every panel could be a framed piece. the character design is on its own level. the dragon is one of the most unique monster designs i’ve seen in so long. we are truly blessed to be living at the same time as Atsushi Ohkubo.

I read an ebook of this.

Picking up where volume 21 left off, this follow begins with more on the bombshell revelation in the previous volume that Captain Burns is working solely with the Evangelists now. The White Cloaks have him in their hooks and Shinra finds himself face-to-face with the man he once considered a father figure. Captain Burn's unwavering service to God is his justification for his defection of sorts. He has seen Adolla and has seen where his prayers go. We get a look into Burn's past with the Joker in this volume also, a mysterious character we still don't know a lot about. Meanwhile, Obi fends off multiple bugs attacking him to make him into an Infernal while the rest of Company 8 face against the Dragon. Arthur fights valiantly and does what he can to bring down his eternal nemesis as a Knight. Company 5 Captain Hibana also discovers more information on the Doppelgangers which may hold the secret to the infernal bugs too.

This series was one I felt was lulling a bit, the story in the previous volumes has been good but it was definitely falling victim to the "filler chapter" issue I've found with a lot of manga. However, as we move further into the mysteries of the Holy Sol Empire being uncovered by Company 8 and hopefully closer to a Sho and Shinra reconciliation, it is beginning to pick back up again. I look forward to the next volume!

Burns vs Shinra was really good especially once he started forming Adolla links with his brother in the distance which I hope means something but it was really touching showing everyone Shinra's determination to become a hero. We also learn a lot more about Burns like learning that his name Leonard is not his real name but one given to him when he became a priest and it also shows why he is so determined to serve the Holy Sol even if it means destroying the world. We also get some more mystery about Hibana and Lisa's past. Arthur vs the Dragon was pretty cool but just wished it has more to it then just Arthur banging on the Dragon while the Dragon just stood their.

I may need to reread, as the story has become pretty complex. TBH, it’s not the type of manga I prefer, as I dislike it when the villains keep leveling up to impossible heights, forcing the protagonists to level up impossibly higher (usually after getting their butts handed to them when they’re theoretically injured). Arthur and Obi made me laugh (the flexing killed me 🤣).

I’m tired of the psycho cult with the guardians and their pillars, but I’ll probably read more after a break.

Both entertaining and a little ridiculous with several simultaneous fights and a few hints.

The Burns fight was dumb.

I think I spoiled myself because I remembered NOTHING of doppelgängers and decided to wikia it.

The fight with Burns really hit me.
Such a great character and an absolutely tragic death.
Also, Moonlight Mask by the end was amazingly funny

idk how into the doppelgänger plot i am but so far they’ve always turned it around so i have faith… ironic with the way faith is questioned in this volume

One of the best volumes so far.

This series does fight scenes very well and this volume is full of them. I'm also loving the doppelganger storyline, it intrigues me a lot.

As for characters, Arthur is probably on the top for me but i hate the whole "image = power" for him, i'm really not a fan of the whole thing. I hate the fact that if he sees himself as a great knight or is up against a powerfull enemy, he's super strong but if his image diminishes, he's super weak. But for some reason (maybe because of he's lighsaber) he's one of my favourites :D.

Shinra's fighting Captain Burns. Arthur is fighting Dragon. Captain Obi is about to get a fire bug and I'm screaming inside because I'm hanging on for dear life, trying to keep up with a lot of moving parts.

Then Obi breaks out the gun show and I'm trying not to hyena cackle in the middle of the library.

This series has 34 volumes.
