Lost in Las Vegas by Kristen Painter
1st book in the Frost and Crowe paranormal mystery series. A spin off from the Jayne Frost mystery series Nocturne Falls. Alternating first person POV of Sinclair and Jayne.

Jayne and Sinclair start on a tour of the toy store chain, starting in Las Vegas where his parents live. They are timing the visit to see his parents opening night new magic act. When Sinclair’s mother is kidnapped in the middle of the show, everyone is a suspect. Jayne and Sinclair investigate with the help of friends. There is a tight time limit because of a contract and the fact that as a zombie, his mother needs lots of vitamins and moisturizers. They use all their skills from magic, to wolf scent tracking and flying over the area looking for clues.

Intriguing and fun mystery as the crew add and eliminates suspects. Love Birdie with her computer skills. I hope she continues with this new series.
The talking cats are adorable and humorous.

Jayne Frost and Necromancer Sinclair are back. They’re married now, and after having spent some time at the North Pole, Sin is getting a bit restless. Jack Frost asks his daughter and her new husband to take a PR tour of the Christmas stores, starting with Las Vegas, where Sin’s parents live. While they’re there, Sin’s mother goes missing during the magic show she performs with his father and Jayne and Sin, along with Bertie, have to help find her.

Winter Zombie

I love that this series continues after Jayne and Sinclair married. After feeling restless they’re sent on a new mission as ambassadors and their first stop is Las Vegas where Sin’s parents live and have their show. Sin’s mom is kidnapped and the adventure begins to find the culprit and murderer. There’s a lot of red herrings and turns, and the mystery takes place in a very short timeframe so it’s pretty fast paced. Overall I enjoyed this first book in the spin-off series.

This was a great first in a series. I LOVE the cover. I wasn’t sure how Kristen would handle this new spin off. But her mind is the mind of a genius. Never running out of ideas. It was an adventure to say the least. Now that Sin and Jayne are married they live in the North Pole. Sin is bored with the only job being royal. He misses having a business and making decisions and coming up with ideas. Little does he have to wait because Jack Frost, Jayne’s father, has come up with a plan for them. A trip to Vegas to watch Sin’s parents magic show. All goes wrong and his mom is kidnapped. Her being a zombie makes the stakes higher because she needs special care.

The whole book was an adventure. They had a big RV to travel to Vegas in. This means the cats got to go. Btw, the cats were hilarious once again. I love how Sugar calls Jayne Momlady. The characters were so well developed. If you haven’t read the Jayne Frost series or Nocturne Falls, you can still dive in here. I would still recommend the others. My favorite is Jayne Frost series. Well now, maybe this one lol. There’s never a dull moment. My favorite thing about reading Kristen’s books is how they make you feel. Even when I’m down, they always pick me up and I feel like I have a friend in the characters because she really brings them to life with her writing.

First in the Frost & Crowe cozy mystery series with an amateur sleuth who happens to be Princess Jayne Frost and her necromancer husband, Sinclair Crowe, who are back from their honeymoon.

My Take
It's so sweet to start a story with such positivity. Sinclair adores his new wife. It's also sweet how much they pay attention to each other. Nor do their respective parents have any issues. We know all this through third person dual protagonist point-of-view from Sin's and Jayne's perspectives.

Jayne is such a sweetheart, and I do envy her ability to metabolize all that sugar and Dr Pepper! Okay, so my evil addiction is Coca Cola, but it's the idea of unlimited yummies!

Okay guys, you'll "appreciate" this one. It seems that Jayne has one closet in their new apartment at the North Pole; Sin has one that he shares with Jayne!

I do so enjoy "listening" to Spike's and Sugar's comments. They're direct and to the point, and even though I know I don't want to know most of what my cats would say . . . I still wanna know.

Oh, we visit Sin's parents' home! Nice. Mom's beauty regime is not so nice. Seems like she goes through a whole lotta moisturizer. Painter has also provided a wee bit of family history about Lila's condition.

We get a wee bit of history about Las Vegas. We also find out what jerks Tony and Lou are.

Lost in Las Vegas is definitely about the characters and it's action-driven, as everyone panics. That'll teach ya to love your family and embrace your friends . . .!

The Story
Sinclair is thrilled to be married, but . . . he's also bored. And Jack knows just how to fix it — road trip!

An important stop is Las Vegas to catch Anson and Lila's spectacular new trick. Only the trick is on them when Lila is abducted. They can't call the cops and Lila could die so many ways.

The Characters
Princess Jayne Frost is the daughter of Jack Frost. Sinclair Crowe, a.k.a. Prince Consort Sinclair, a necromancer and former doughnut shop owner, is Jayne's new husband. Spider and Sugar are their "married" cats, who can talk. Sugar calls Jayne "Momlady".

Las Vegas
Sinclair's parents — Lord Anson, the magician, and Lady Lila, the zombie assistant, Crowe — have a magic act in Las Vegas — and were granted the titles of Lord and Lady when their son got married. Dead Sexy is their new mega-hit show in Vegas at the Oasis Casino. The "Vanishing Woman" is their new trick. The Oasis Grand is the name of their house. Maude Dabrowski is the Crowes' agent. Zinnia is Lila's great-aunt and a necro-psychometrist who lives at Canyon Meadows. Yep, death magic runs in Lila's family. Dex and Buck Murphy are stagehands.

Miranda Winterberry is the manager of the local Santa's Workshop. Xavier, who bought a book from Superfine, works at the Dove and Wand, a magic bookstore. Martin Beck was Harry Houdini's manager. Dr Brewer is a witch and handles a lot of supernatural clients, including the Crowes.

Frank Chiarillo owns the Crystal Palace, and he's been trying to poach the Crowes for years. Frank is also part owner of the Rare Breed biker bar. Jimmy Deville is the Palace's show manager. The Palace's magic act is Tony Toretllini and his Impastable Magic. The number 2 act in Vegas. The questionable Carrie Caruthers, a.k.a. Cora Bright, Krissy Lawton, and Carolyn Hernandez, is Tony's assistant. Gabrielle née Fine "Gabi" is Tony's wife, an ex-showgirl. Lou Scholtz, who lives in Sierra Vista, is Tony's minimal effort manager. Crimson Dancer is a horse Tony bought.

The North Pole (NP)
Jack Frost is also the King of Winter. Mrs Greenbaum is Jack's administrative assistant. Ezreal has built a fabulous RV. Davide handles Jayne's jewelry. Her travel jewelry is specifically special.

Y'all know who Santa Claus, a.k.a. Kris Kringle, is. His wife, Martha, makes incredible eggnog fudge. And I'm back to craving some eggnog! They're also Jayne's uncle and aunt.

Ingvar is in charge of IT. Great-great-great-aunt Lynette had a fixation with her tiara. Galaxy is a reindeer's name. The Pole Post is the NP's newspaper. Most communication in the NP is through magical snow globes. A Santa's Bag is a quick mail service. Shimmer is a winter magic used in the Santa's Workshop stores. The Santa slide is how Santa gets inside houses to deliver presents.

Nocturne Falls is . . .
. . . where Sin and Jayne met. Aunt Birdie, a werewolf and computer whiz, works as a police dispatcher. Jack Van Zant is a raven shifter, witch's familiar (technically), and Cole's father ( The Professor Woos the Witch , 4). Greyson is Jayne's vampire ex-boyfriend.

The Cover and Title
The cover is a colorful and fuzzy Las Vegas under a night sky — the better to see Jayne's magic swirling into the air. Yep, it's the blue, long-haired Jayne all in black cuddled up with her new husband, Sinclair Crowe in all-black as well, standing in front of a border of ferns with the black Spider and the white Sugar at their feet. At the very top is the series info in a colonial blue with the title immediately below in white. At the very bottom is an italicized info blurb and below that is the author's name; both are in white.

The title is about Lila, for she's Lost in Las Vegas.

The first in a new series - a spin off of the Jayne Frost series. I loved it.

Jayne and Sinclair takes turn in telling the story - they are on a tour of the toy store chain and start off in Las Vegas where Sin’s parent have a huge magic show.

They are plunged into a fast-paced adventure when Sin’s mother is kidnapped. It is essential they find her fast or the magic show contract will be torn up and - well - Sin’s mum is a Zombie and without her lotions and potions she will start to deteriorate.

Throw in wolf and raven shape-changers and you have a fun, edge of the seat mystery to solve

Can’t wait for the next book to come out!

This is the first book in a delightful new series featuring familiar characters. Jayne and Sin are off on a new adventure where mystery and intrigue are found. It was fun following along with these characters as they solved another mystery. I look forward to reading what happens next.

Before she married her new necromancer husband Sinclair Crowe, making him her Prince Consort, Winter Princess Jayne Frost (heir to the throne of the North Pole) ran the flagship toy store for the family business, Santa's Workshop (after all, Santa is her uncle). So to promote good will (and capitalize on the popularity of the new Royal Couple), the family is sending Jayne and Sinclair (and their talking cats, Spider and Sugar) on a road trip to visit the most successful "Santa's Workshop" stores in the United States. First up -- Sinclair's hometown of Las Vegas, where his magician father and zombie mother headline a his magic show -- until his mother is kidnapped.

I'm glad that author Painter created a separate series for this novel (and subsequent ones) instead of continuing under the Jayne Frost mysteries label, since they haven't been the same since she started dating Sinclair (and certainly since she moved back to the North Pole from Nocturne Falls). This gives the new series the freedom to be its own thing, and it's really great. Jayne and Sinclair alternate POVs, which is new and interesting, and the mystery is actually involving and complicated enough to keep readers guessing until the end. It's a great start to a new series.

Lost in Las Vegas is book 1 of the Frost & Crowe Mystery series. I was so excited to happen across this book. I loved the Jayne Frost series and am thrilled to have a spin-off of that with Jayne Frost and her husband Sinclair Crowe. I hope that this is the first of many. We also got to see Birdie in this book. She is from the Nocturne Falls series and also the spin-off Jayne Frost series that this book spins off of.

In this book, Jayne and Sinclair have to solve a kidnapping of someone very close to them. It is set in Las Vegas where they are visiting Sin's parents. Spider and Sugar are along for the adventure too.

I recommend this book, but I really think it would be enjoyed so much more if you read the Jayne Frost series first. You may even want to check out the Nocturne Falls series too because it is pretty great.

The narration in this book was done a bit different than the Jayne Frost series and Nocturne Falls series. In those books, it is just one narrator. This book had dual narration and swapped back and forth with the POV. Both narrators did a good job and I enjoyed listening to this book.

The start of a new year and the start of a new series. Lost in Las Vegas is the new spin-off from the Jayne Frost series and sees Jayne and Sin adjusting to their married lives.

This is technically a brand new series, and in theory readers could probably jump right in here, but I personally think that readers would get a lot more enjoyment if they read the Jayne Frost series too.

A trip to Las Vegas provides a new back drop for these familiar characters (and those who are waiting for more Spider and Sugar won't be disappointed), and a new mystery for our heroine to solve.

One of these days I will solve the whole mystery without getting to the answer first ... but this was not the book. I solved part of it but yet again Kristen got one of the baddies past me. She is so sneaky!

A great start to this new series and a fun read to start the new year! An easy 5 stars from me and Melanie's Muses approved!
Fans of the site will know that I LOVE Kristen Painter books and this one was no different. This particular heroine definitely resonates with me well for a start because she's about my age, but she asks the questions I would be asking. She thinks a lot how I would think, says a lot of things that I would say - often out loud and not always at the most appropriate times, oh and she loves cake. Did I mention she loves cake? (Yes vampire - but yes STILL CAKE!)

2021 bk 15. Kristen Painter has knocked it out of the park with this new series. Painter's fans of the Jayne Frost books know that Jayne was married to Sinclair Crowe in the last of that series. Now the newly wedded couple will start adventures of their own, beginning Sinclair's home town, Las Vegas. A mystery involving the abduction of Crowe's mother and Jayne's new Mother in Law, further cements their relationship - and relationship with the older Crowe's. The fact that Birdie and Jack from Nocturne Falls shows up is an added bonus. I'm looking forward to more books in this series!

This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This is the first book in the Frost & Crowe Mystery series written by Kristen Painter. This is a new series with my favorite characters from this authors other series (Nocturne Falls and Jayne Frost) but you don’t have to know what happened in the other books. But if you haven’t read the other series I suggest you do because they are all awesome. Jayne and Sinclair are newly married and trying to get settled in at the North Pole, When Jayne’s dad suggest that they take a royal road trip and visit some of the toy stores, their first stop is Las Vegas. They are excited to visit Las Vegas because Sinclair’s parents live there and they are debuting their new magic act. Something goes wrong during the show, so Jayne, Sinclair, and their friends are determined for solve the case. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I am looking forward to the next book in this great new series.

I just love Jayne and Sinclair. Who cares that there is no mystery until the middle of the book? They are just so much fun to be around.

I am not sure the 2 narrators mixed well, but I understand why they were used here. And, they did a fine job.

I will move on. Just for fun.

I don't think I've yet read a book about a married couple having an adventure, and I absolutely loved this! I can't wait to see what their next stop has in store.

Glad to see these characters in more books. The pacing on this is a little off as it takes a while for them to get to Vegas, but I think the future books will be a mystery per store they stop it. It will be fun. Plus, other friends from Nocturne Falls can visit along the way.

Series: Frost & Crowe Mystery #1
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

FYI, while this is a new series, I do think you need to read the Jayne Frost series to truly understand the characters and the world. This book starts a few weeks after the events in the last book of that series, Miss Frost Says I Do.

Jayne and Sinclair are settling into married life at the North Pole but Sinclair is struggling with the lack of challenge. When they get tasked with visiting different Santa’s Workshops to boost morale he is excited for the new adventure. Their first stop is Las Vegas but things don’t go as expected.

This was an emotional book and I loved every minute of it. Sinclair and Jayne’s new adventure is a harrowing one filled with life or death. It’s a race against the clock for them to find the culprit and save the day, otherwise Sin and his family will never be the same again. I won’t say anything else about it because I don’t want to spoil anything.

One thing I love about this series, and the previous one, that I loved was that it does an amazing job at showing what a healthy, strong relationship looks like and how important family can be. Sinclair and Jayne have a very strong marriage that just gets stronger with every book. There is also the strong bond his parents have. I just love a good series that shows the importance of family and your partner.

Another wonderful part of this book is that we finally get Sinclair’s POV on events. In the previous series, Jayne Frost, only Jayne’s POV was provided. Having Sinclair’s POV in this book made it so much more emotional and heartbreaking if things went wrong. Also you could really feel his love for Jayne come through in his sections, and I absolutely loved it.

I loved every minute of this book and I really can’t wait to read their next adventure.

I'm so glad to have Jayne, Sin, Spider, and Sugar in this new series. While the Jayne Frost series came first you don't have to read those in order to enjoy this one but I do recommend them if you want more wintery adventures.
Newly weds + royal tour + a stop in Las Vegas = plenty if action and a mystery that will have you second guessing who did it along with the characters. The readers are also introduced to someone new who I hope to see more of in future books.

Sweet! Jayne and her Necromancer honey bunny are kissing babies and solving crimes in Vegas. Well, actually, there wasn't any baby kissing that I can recall. But the solving crime part happened.

The crime in question? Sinclair's mother has gone missing after his parents' newest act and the fact she's a zombie and his dad uses actual magic in said show means they can't exactly report this to the police. Good thing Jayne has some solid sleuthing abilities under her belt. Plus, Birdie happens to be in town and nobody can crack a computer and have relevant information spill out like that lady.

Which means mama Crowe is practically found. Well, not really. The family and assorted friends (plus talking cats) have their work cut out for them as they dig through who could want to derail their show. Or who might have it in for the Crowes, really. A few false starts, a few fruitless searches, and a fair amount of worry later and the crew ends up on the right track.

I like the princess and her consort and having them on the road solving crime is just FUN.

From the notes on Amazon: In this new Jayne Frost and Sinclair Crowe mystery, a royal road trip takes the Princess and Prince Consort of the North Pole all the way to Las Vegas.
And even though they’re in Sin City on official business, it doesn’t take long for trouble to find them. Trouble that’s very close to home. In fact, Sinclair’s entire family is gambling on him and Jayne figuring out what’s gone dangerously wrong with the cool new magic trick at the end of his parents’ show.
Thankfully, they have help from a few friends and a pair of talking cats. But how many times can they roll the dice before time runs out?

I really like these books and it's been *way* too long since I picked one up. Love Jayne's Winter Magic and the fact she can do the 'ice slide' to get under doors or through cracks in walls is just really cool. I just adore Spider and Sugar and Jayne and Sin make a great team. I do kind of hope, when they get home, Sin gets to open a donut shop at the Pole since he misses doing that.

Really like that there's always a happy ending, even if it does make me cry. Go pick up the series, if you haven't already. They're really fun reads.

The best part of this book was to see that Sinclair is more of an active participant in the mystery. Granted he had a lot to lose in the situation but I’m hopeful that the series will continue with more of an even participation between Jayne and Sinclair.

As for the mystery itself, it moves at a very fast pace so there isn’t a lot of development or extra stuff to take away from the story. I liked the inclusion of Birdie and Jack but hope the future books show how well Jayne and Sinclair can manage on their own as amateur sleuths. It was a cute little story and an easy listen.

Lot of extra stuff after the climatic ending that I didn’t see the point of. It seemed to cause the book to drag at the end and was almost like the author was trying to reverse how Sinclair’s mother was set up in the previous books. Not sure it was needed.

I use books like this to listen to in the morning while getting ready for work so I like when I can listen without feeling like I miss a lot if I must focus on something else. I loved the dual narration of the story, but it is always weird when it is chapter by chapter, not quite conversational.

Surprise Cozy Mystery

I am a huge fan of Ms. Painter's Nocturne Falls series and Jayne Frost mystery series. This newest installation is as wonderful as the others. It's so great to pick up a book, be able to settle into it with comfort, and smile the whole time I'm reading it. The characters are crisp, unique and complex. The story line is clear and developed so the ending is NOT a dead give away. I love that. Even her side characters are unique and charming. With the addition of Sinclair it holds that much more enjoyable potential. If you have not read the series fear not this new line will make sense, but do yourself a favor and read the full series (both of the ones I mentioned earlier). It'll be a great read! Thank you Ms. Painter for a joyful break from an unusually stressful life! You're the best and so is your writing!

KP has outdone herself once more!

Welcome back to the rollicking world that is the marriage of Jayne and Sinclair.

Once again, KP is demonstrating her outstanding talent as a storyteller. Jayne and Sinclair hit the road with the cats in tow, along with all of the requisite jokes and one-liners that you would expect from a trip like that. What happens when they get to Vegas, however, is completely unexpected.

KP once again dangles clues like icicles from the eves in the middle of winter, not a one of which actually leads to a solution. Just when you think you have it figured out, she pulls out her trademark surprise, and then alls well that ends well.

All in all, this book is not a gamble. In fact you’ll count yourself lucky to have picked it up. So sit back, open the book and ENJOY!

This was a fun, entertaining read. A good start to the extension/expansion of the Jayne Frost series.

I love the character of Jayne and really enjoyed the series about her life in Nocturne Falls. This book expanded that universe to explore her new married life as the heir to the North Pole throne.

This was an interesting, creative new storyline, introducing us to Sinclair's family and letting Jayne and Sin investigate a new kind of mystery.

The Las Vegas setting was also a different but good new perspective and I enjoyed that as well.

As always, the talking cats - Spider and Sugar - were a hoot, and gave the story some light and sweet moments to offset the drama of what was going on.

A good start to a new series. I will look for more books in this series and give them a try.

So here it is - the first in a new series by Kristen Painter, that in some ways could be seen as a continuation of the Jayne Frost Mysteries series, particularly as this book starts soon after the last one of that series (Miss Frost Says I Do) leaves off.

Overall its business as usual, and I can't see fans of the former series being disappointed here. The book is a fun and enjoyable read, despite what felt like a slow start - There's lots of familiar characters in tow and it's interesting to see Jayne and her entourage in a different setting. The main difference here is the book is written from both Jayne and Sinclair's point of view, usually In alternating chapters.

Assuming there is more to come this book is a solid and worthy foundation to a new series, roll on book 2.....

More Jayne and Sin!

The royal wedding is over and Jayne and Sin (with their talking cats, Spider and Sugar) are settling into their apartments in the royal palace. They both love the North Pole, and are happily a enjoying royal breakfast with Jayne’s parents, when Jayne realizes that Sin looks a little...and Jayne feels a little...Hmm...bored? Well, being a royal can be boring.
Of course, there is some royal traveling to be done. And with Jayne and Sin, it’s not so much that adventure finds them, rather that they have the skills , focus and magic necessary for whatever comes.
This mystery includes Jayne, Sin, Sin’s Las Vegas Magic Show parents, and some good friends from Nocturne Falls.

Who knew?!

Who knew zombies could be so approachable and cute?
Well, in this brand new series featuring the indomitable Ms. Frost and her new husband, Mr. Sinclair Crowe, we explore his side of the family in more depth.
And that includes his famous Las Vegas parents, who have a burgeoning ‘magic’ show in one of the casinos.

When his mother, who is a well put together zombie (think Liv Moore of iZombie here) goes missing during their newly debuted act, in front of a packed house, lots of hijinks ensue!

Will they find Sinclair’s mom, Lila?Or will the culprit bring out the darkness inside of Sin if something goes awry?

Throw in some familiar, unexpected guests, a pair of talking felines, jealousy and greed, plus a custom RV and you’ve got a rollicking great adventure!

At 12:20 am I received notification that the book was now available for download, I downloaded it and started to read (because I love books and do not respect mornings enough). I could not put the book down and finished it. Lost in Las Vegas is just as amazing as all of Kristen's other Nocturne Falls and Jayne Frost books. This is an amazing spin-with Sin, Jayne and of course Spider and Sugar. It can be read as a stand-alone since it is the first book in the series but trust me, it will be even more enjoyable if you read the prior Jayne Frost books first. After reading Lost in Las Vegas, I now want to re-read the entire series.

Really enjoyed this new spinoff Jayne Frost story. Jayne and Sin are married, and on an adventure at the behest of the King. I thought the new change of scenery - camping in a luxury camper while driving to their first destination - was very clever and interesting. I also enjoyed getting to see Sin's parents again - just love anything having to do with his zombie mom. Enjoyable read, and while you didn't need to read the prior Jayne Frost stories to enjoy it, it certainly is more entertaining if you have. Plus can't get enough of Spider's comments. So cute!

I find reading a Kristen Painter book like coming home. There is something about her writing and her characters that really work for me. I have been known to read books with snarky characters and they are fun, but they don’t instill the kind of warm, happy feeling I get from Kristen Painter’s books. Her characters are so interesting and entertaining, you forget they aren’t real people.

Spending this book with Sinclair’s parents was a rare treat. Having Birdie still involved with the Frost/Crowe’s is a delight. I am so excited for this new series and to see where the “camper” takes us next!
