I doubt whether this will make a whole lot of sense to anybody who hasn't read the original novel. I found it helpful as a reminder of the key plot events that moved the story forward, but there is none of the underlying cast turmoil that added some spice to the Chronicles. The art is fairly well done, if a slight bit inconsistent, and Krynn does look a lot like I imagined here.

The problem is: there's a lot that happens here, and it is true to the novel, but not a lot of effort has gone into telling the reader why this or that is important, so it doesn't set up the sequels very nicely. Also, why does Sturm not want to get out of the road when danger approaches? Since there is no elaboration whatsoever on the Solamnic knights here, readers are left groping in the darkness. What is the story with Tanis, and why is he such a bastard with Laurana? Again, this is developed much better in the original work. The list goes on. Even given the inevitable shortcomings of a graphic work, some effort to address these important issues would not have gone amiss.

Now, I'm giving it three stars, because I did enjoy it as a visual companion to Dragons of Autumn Twilight but I would only recommend it to readers who have read the original Dragonlance Chronicles.

While not quite as good as the novel and much better than the animated movie I found this graphic novel adaptation of the first book to be rather true to the story of the original book more than I expected.

The art is rather good, almost great at times, though it is a bit dark and hard to read when you are reading in bed.

Overall a good read anytime.

I listened to this ages ago as an audio book, and one problem I had was keeping all the characters straight. There's still an abundance of characters, but, luckily, now there are handy graphic markers to help keep them straight (i.e. Strum is the knight with the horned helment, Caramon has the winged helmet, etc.)

It's a well-known story, so I won't go into depth here. It's pretty standard quest fair, but it's fun. I like Tasselhoff and Fizban, and Raistlin and Tanis.

What the hell is with the scantily clad warrior babes, tho? Do you seriously call *that* armour?! *shakes head and chuckles*

The art is good, and the story is what it is. My only complaint is that, with the way it's edited to fit it into the format, it was kind of jumpy in places. More than once I turned back to see if I skipped a page. But you get the gist of the story, and it takes about 3 hours to read. Since I specifically didn't want to commit myself to anything with this series, this is exactly what I was hoping for.

Probably in the 3.5 to 4 range

I read the original novels a long time ago when I was either in middle school or early high school and when I saw the books getting the graphic novel treatment I figured I'd read this version rather than re-read the whole books. After reading this it actually had the opposite effect, I kind of want to reread the novels in their entirety now! This isn't to say they didn't do a good job, but it made me recall some great parts of the books and would actually like to experience them in their full glory again.

The graphic novel, obviously, moves much faster than the novel and I feel like they switched from scene to scene pretty quickly, which sort of underscored the epic nature of the journey. Instead they focused on more of the bigger key moments, which made it have a sort of "Cliff Notes" feel to the whole story. That being said, if you've never read the story before, this might be a difficult way to engage the story, because in order to include all the big scenes you kind of lose a serious amount of the character development. If you've read it before and looking for a nice and quick refresher, then this is it.

The art is pretty solid through and through. The one thing I can think of criticizing is sometimes everyone looks like they have rather fat faces. There's a particular scene with Tanis where it looks like he's gained an incredible amount of weight, which was pretty funny, but that's the only thing I can think of. For the most part the art is very well done and they did a great job of capturing what I imagine the characters to look like from reading the story. Often the covers featured the main characters, but never the villains and it was really great to see them drawn out.

I initially read this as individual issues, which is what I prefer for reading comic books. So, if you're looking at a good artistic treatment for an wonderful novel, then this kicks off the trilogy very well. Again, if this is your first foray into Dragonlance, I think it might wind up being a little bit confusing as an introduction to the world. I remember the original novels being a little confusing at first, mainly due to how many characters there were and all the different names, but I think you quickly get over that. Either way, I do recommend diving into the novels first.

It’s been such a long time since I’ve dipped my toes into the lore surrounding Dragonlance. Sure I have a bunch of the books, sure it’s been over ten years since I’ve read any of it…but isn’t that the best part of books? The ability to go to your shelves and revisit worlds full of characters and magic? That’s what this felt like reading this graphic novel.

This is the quick way to get into the esteemed, beloved, and iconic Dragonlance Chronicles. It’s the trilogy that started it all. I read this with the intent of giving my copy, with the first two full novels, to my little brother. Now I’m more than confident this can be something we can both love.

Dragons of Autumn Twilight has a full cast of classic fantasy characters and a world that feels not only lived in, but worth saving. I will be returning to Krynn very, very soon. See you guys at the Inn of the Last Home for a drink! 🍻☺️

I really don't understand why people like the Dragonlance Chronicles... It's just badly written fantasy, very poor story... To be honest it feels like a "normal" dungeons and dragons session, which is a plus but if you think about it... It's not a great dungeons and dragons session and who wants to read somebody elses play anyway?

Perfection in graphic novel form!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Five stars.
I know that some of my rating is related to the sheer amount of affection and nostalgia I have for Dragonlance. After reading the books many times, seeing it in this form, so faithful to the original story…it almost brought tears to my eyes. Dragonlance began my love affair with fantasy. I could not adore the characters more than I do. Who doesn’t want a house in a vallenwood tree in Solace and to visit the Inn of the Last Home for some of Otik’s spiced potatoes? This beautiful graphic novel filled my heart with joy and made me reach for my set of the Dragonlance Chronicles, as I think it’s time to read them again. The only thing I would change about this would be to make it longer. 🐉🐉

So I want to rate this a one but since it was pretty much my first comic, I'll add an extra star. Maybe it's just not my kind of reading. I feel like since a lot of people loved it, I should probably give it three stars but I really didn't like it at all. The dialog felt clunky and for me, the story was hard to follow (as I said though, this is my first comic, maybe I just don't like them) I thought the illustrations were great but overall it doesn't have me looking forward to the actual novel which is waiting for me on the bookshelf at this very moment. *Sigh*

A nice version of a nostalgic classic for me. Captures most of the tale well, and the scenes omitted are understandably so, and don't detract from it. Also allows for a nice, quicker read than reading the novel itself. Art pretty good, though dragon fighting was not quite as I imagined it :) Otherwise, a pleasure to reread the adventures of some of my childhood favourites in Tanis, Tas, Flint, Sturm, Laurana, Raistlin and co.

I really enjoyed this adaptation of the novel. I do agree that having some familiarity of the book will help with this. That being said, I liked the artwork and being able to revisit the Dragonlance story without having to spend the time re-reading the books themselves.

I recommend reading the novel first, since it will drastically improve your enjoyment of the graphic novel.

Art was pretty cool - very old-school. Overall a fun hour or two worth of material, depending on how fast you consume.

I know all adaptations are different from the original and you should treat them as such... but I found the art style to be ehh and that in the end I didn't like "being told" what everything was. I like the images I created for myself while reading the books (which are better).

More readable than it’s novel counterpart but still very bland. I still don’t get why everyone loves Dragonlance.

Decent adaptation in terms of plot and dialogs. The art has style and for sure is done by a talented artist, but sometimes feels rushed/half-assed. Also, it's colored way too dim for my liking. At times it gets so bad that it's hard to discern what's going on and follow the plot.

A book club I've recently become involved with decided to read this last month. As I've previously read the novel, I decided to see how the graphic novel adaptation stacked up against this rather badly written and poorly developed book. I know that this series is beloved by many fans, but I just can't understand what all those people see in it. The characters are badly written and the plot is event driven, not character driven, and it is really nothing but a series of episodically linked random encounters. This makes the whole thing rather boring and the characters are at best cliched and stereotyped. The result is that I can't say this adaptation really rose above, or added anything to, the original material.

I picked this one up at a use bookstore, interested to see the Dragonlance story brought to life in the graphic novel format. Although the story clips along at a very fast pace, losing all subtlety and extra pacing that the book provides, the graphic novel covers all the major events of the novel and really depicted them perfectly as I might have imagined them. It was not only a good reminder of the story itself, but also a great accompaniment to the novel as a whole. I thought the artwork was well done, and although I prefer a high level of detail in my comics, this came pretty close.

One of the more 'meh' graphic novel adaptations I've read. Dialogue felt stilted and the pacing was a little uneven. But then again, the original novel wasn't exactly the paragon of literary achievement either.

And Steve Kurth's pencils annoy me a little - perhaps I'm just not used to the style. Not to dismiss Kurth's skills, but I sometimes felt as though the art was saved only by virtue of the great color done by Imaginary Friends Studios.

A very good series. Based off the popular Dungeons and Dragons role player game (go half-elves), this was the book to read back in high school. Very good journey story with great character arcs. I recommend this opening series and all its accompanying series, especially the Dragonlance-Legends series about the twins Caramon and Raistlin.

This was the first series of D&D novels I read even though I had been playing for many years. I fell in love with the characters and the setting after reading this book and I continued with this series and I liked all the other books by Weiss and Hickman but not so much the stuff not written by them.

If you keep in mind the heavy D&D background, and the fact that these books are geared towards 15-year-old boys, they're Great Fun! Just good stories. It's pure fluff -- nothing to change your life -- but highly enjoyable.

Just read this for the second time and I love the story. Hickman and Weis have great books and now they are terrific graphic novels. The art in this book was fantastic. I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series that they have published.

One of my favorite all time fantasy series. Yes, it's not particularly deep, but it has one of the best characters in all of fantasy lit: Raistlin. A disgruntled and frail wizard who rises to challenge the gods by will and bitterness.

ZERO STARS...Very Disappointing.
Boring because it was so predictable.
Glad I only picked up Volume 1, not worth the price of admission.
Only gave one star because they won't let me give negative stars.
Really one of the worst Fantasy genre reads I've ever read.
