This series is not the best or the most elaborate, but it's a fast-paced, entertaining, and light series with just enough mystery, action, magic, and slow-burn romance to keep me interested and make me want to read the next book sooner rather than later.
On her return from a short trip to her uncle, because she was hoping to gain more information about her parents, Emma is sent to the London Eye to deal with a suicidal vampire that flees the scene before she can intercept and question him. A few minutes later, she is needed again, this time to deal with 3 werewolves that hijacked a bus full of tourists. It turns out those events were only a diversion for a bloody bank robbery that happened in the Supe’s sector.
Trying to figure out what is happening, and having a pretty shitty day, Emma runs into Deverau Webb, who gives her a vial of a mysterious potion to thank her for her help with his niece. Deciding that she’s got nothing to lose after witnessing some horrifying deaths, and feeling out of her depth, Emma decides to drink the potion, and ends up repeating the last 12 hours.
This was an original way for the author to make the plot and the romance progress! I was not sure at first if I would enjoy this “groundhog day” magical twist, but I ended up liking how it allowed Emma to discover new pieces of the puzzle every time, and how it pushed the romance between Lukas and her to finally move forward.
I continue to like Emma and Lukas a lot, especially when they are together. It’s refreshing to have characters behaving in a way that fits their age. Emma is still reckless at times, but at least she doesn’t act like a 15 yo teenager when it comes to Lukas, and Lukas is mature, calm, and collected most of the time, which is to be expected since he is The vampire lord, and he is many decades old.
Emma continues to be clever and quick-witted in this book, and for a change, she doesn’t die 3 times during her investigation! She has a very good memory though, and I wish I was able to connect the dots as quickly as she does at times. I saw some of the twists coming, but only a few pages in advance, and overall I was invested in this story from the very beginning until the end.
Deverau Webb is also becoming more and more interesting, and I will give a try to the spinoff series revolving around him.

I gave him the condensed version. After I’d finished, Lukas folded his arms and glowered. ‘You have a bullet wound in your shoulder and you’re speeding through the streets of London? You need to get to a hospital.’ Adam piped up from the back seat.
‘That’s what you get from that story? That she’s been shot in the shoulder? How about the fact that she’s telling us she’s re-lived the same day three times? Or that I’m supposedly in collusion with a gang of bank robbers? I’ve never heard anything so fucking stupid.’
This was an original way for the author to make the plot and the romance progress! This is third in an Urban Fantasy series that has plot and character elements that build over time. So definitely read them in order.
Having read the others, you know pretty much what to expect with this one. So let me just say that I really liked the developments in this and that I think Harper pulled off a really great achievement creating lasting growth with essentially a "Groundhog Day" plot—i.e. Emma goes through the same day multiple times and that's pretty much the entire book. So it's all one day, and yet, you get some great progression on the series as a whole, including the relationship between Emma and Lukas.
Also, the plot was outstanding and well-thought out and holds up, at least for me (I'm not very critical of plot-logic while reading, but I do tend to catch obvious stumbles). So I'm giving this all five stars and I wish I hadn't caught up to the publication of the stories in the series because I want the next one right now...
A note about Steamy: There's a single explicit sex scene putting this on the low end of my steam tolerance. It has been a long time coming and it developed very well, I think.

This book is all about second chances and third chances.
Emma's life and career starts falling apart in this book and the plot twists in this book are some of the best in the series.
The story was extremely well put together and one of my favorite books in the series absolutely loved it.
Completely hooked and on to the next book.

For some reason I thought this was a Trilogy, I kept waiting for things to be tied up until I realized there's going to be another book.
I liked it, I liked the premise of this one. I'm especially glad to see that Emma and Lucas's relationship progressing. Can't wait for book 4.

But I rounded up, because of Lukas.
The story made me, 🤔 but if Hollywood made a movie with storyline like this, sure you can write a story like this too, right?
Very interesting, also the continuing this ‘carpe diem’ is seamless, so it was good.
I like Lukas too, a lot.
This kind of character I want from these ageing PNR heroes, LOL.
Mature, calm and behaving like their age instead of their looks.
Imagine what is going to be, if 200 years old something Fae/Vampire/whatever behaving like their 20 years old look 👀 👀🤦♀️ 😂.
So, yes, brownies point for Lukas beside the fantastic heroine, of course!
I can’t wait for more from this two, and I would love to read D. Webb’s series too.

I am loving the world Harper has created from our spunky constable to Lord Horvath, aka Lukas, or if you prefer… Lord of the Vampires. The series is best listened to in the order of its release. Each installment has its own mystery as the overall series ARC is further developed.
On her return from a research trip about her parents, Emma is called to the London Eye where it appears a vampire is attempting suicide, when another call comes in about an attack on a human filled bus…
It turns out all of this is just a diversion for a bigger attack and by the end of the day lives are lost.
Emma runs into Deverau Webb, who gives her a small vile with a cryptic message about righting things. Welcome to Ground Hog Day! Emma has a limited number of repeats to solve the case and save lives.
The story that unfolds repeats the same day over and over, with some interesting twists, and a rather spicy love scene. The compelling case and shenanigans kept me listening.
The tale was well crafted and Emma despite her inexperience showed she is exactly what the Sup community needs.

Doch Emma hat keine Zeit, Atem zu holen, denn ein Vampir klettert auf das London Eye und drei Werwölfe entführen einen Touristenbus. Und als wäre das alles nicht schon genug Aufregung, gibt es da ja auch noch den attraktiven Vampir Lord Horvath, der ständig ihr Nähe sucht und Emma mit seiner überwältigenden Anziehungskraft stärker durcheinanderbringt, als sie zugeben will …

Die Tür sah immer noch so aus, wie ich sie aus der Kindheit in Erinnerung hatte.
Das Cover ist wieder passend zum Rest der Reihe gestaltet, aber hier liebe ich besonders die Farbe. Und natürlich sieht man wieder London im Hintergrund, echt schön.
Der Schreibstil der Autorin ist gewohnt flüssig zu lesen und ich kam schnell durch das Buch. Wie immer gibt es super witzige, aber auch ernste Stellen. Zudem hat die Autorin hier gezeigt, dass sie auch intime Szenen super schreiben kann. Das Buch ist wieder aus Sicht von Emma in der Ich-Perspektive geschrieben.
Dieser Teil geht recht bald nach dem Ende vom zweiten Band weiter. Emma will mehr über sich selbst herausfinden, doch der Job lässt ihr keine Ruhe. Dass die Ereignisse zusammen hängen, bringt Emma auf eine neue Spur.
Ich liebe einfach alles, was die Autorin schreibt und so war ich auch hier wieder sehr schnell in der Geschichte drinnen. Band zwei ist noch nicht so lang her, darum kann ich die ganzen Figuren noch gut zuordnen und hatte keine Probleme. Das Buch beginnt etwas ruhiger, denn Emma besucht ihren Onkel und will mehr über ihre Eltern erfahren. Zuerst dachte ich, dass sich dieser Teil mehr darum drehen würde, aber dem ist nicht so. Die Geschichte schlug eine geniale Richtung ein, mit der ich nicht gerechnet habe.
Emma ist immer noch ein toller Charakter und ich bewundere immer wieder, wie gut sie die richtigen Schlüsse ziehen kann und Zusammenhänge erkennt. In diesem Teil wird sie aber auch etwas lockerer was die Beziehung zu Lukas angeht. Bis jetzt hat sie sich von ihm fern gehalten, aber das ändert sich hier, nachdem sie realisiert, dass einer von ihnen beiden jeden Moment sterben konnte. Als Charakterentwicklung fand ich das wirklich gut.
Es gibt wieder einen ganzen Haufen Nebencharaktere, die je nachdem wichtige oder unwichtige Rollen spielen. Jeder von ihnen war aber toll ausgearbeitet und besonders die Kollegen vom Supe-Squad fand ich wieder recht amüsant. Lukas bleibt immer noch ein Traum, er ist ein grandioser Charakter, denn obwohl er ein Vampir ist, ist er nicht blutrünstig und kann auch sanft sein. Bei ihm gibt es sicher noch einige verborgene Seiten zu entdecken.
Wie schon im Klappentext steht, gibt es recht schnell zwei Vorfälle, um die Emma sich kümmern muss. Zuerst wirkte alles ganz einfach, so als würde man zu Beginn zwei kleine Fälle bekommen, aber dem war nicht so. Beide Vorfälle haben eine größere Bedeutung, die zwar recht schnell klar wird, aber das eigentliche Ziel gut verschleiert.
Ich weiß ja, dass die Autorin grandiose Ideen hat, aber hier hat sie mich wirklich umgehauen. Ich möchte gar nicht spoilern und verraten was passiert, aber ich kann sagen, dass hier einiges anders ist als in den ersten beiden Reihen. Emma passt sich dennoch schnell an die neuen Gegebenheiten an und nutzt diese so gut es eben geht zu ihrem Vorteil. Einzig Die Ermittlungen zum Phönix bleiben dabei auf der Strecke und man erfährt in diesem Band nicht wirklich viel davon. Durch den Besuch bei Emmas Onkel und sein Versprechen, ihr alles von ihren Eltern zu schicken, das er noch hat, hoffe ich aber, dass es dazu im vierten Band mehr Infos geben wird.
Die Beziehung zwischen Lukas und Emma geht aber ordentlich voran. Wie schon erwähnt macht Emma hier große Fortschritte und obwohl man schon lange die Spannung zwischen den beiden bemerkt, geht jetzt endlich etwas weiter. Zwar spielt die Beziehung nur eine nebensächliche Rolle, aber ich fands gut, dass man endlich eine Entwicklung bekommt, noch länger hätte die Autorin das nicht ziehen dürfen.
Da jeder Band so halb in sich abgeschlossen ist, wurde auch hier der Hauptfall zu einem Ende gebracht, aber es sind immer noch die Fragen zu Emmas Wesen offen und das Ende lässt noch sehr viel Spielraum für Spekulationen. Daher bin ich schon umso mehr gespannt auf den nächsten Band.
Fazit:
Wie immer konnte mich die Autorin vollends überzeugen. Das Buch war witzig, spannend und ich wusste lange nicht, wer der Täter ist. Jetzt freue ich mich schon sehr auf den vierten Band. Ich kann die Reihe nur empfehlen und auch dieser Band bekommt wieder 5 Sterne.

Wow. I already liked this series, but this one was really good. I am also very happy to read this will not be the end of the series. I somehow thought this was a trilogy, but there will be more in this series.
Just when Emma is trying to find out more about her parents (and what she herself is) she is confronted with several incidents in London at the same time. Two of them are just diversions for a big bank robbery with lots of victims. Another plus: the relationship between Emma and Lord Horvath (Lukas) is getting hotter. I like it! And that is also the reason I would love to read more books in this series. There is so much more to discover about Emma herself and I really like the Supe Squad.

Two of them are just diversions for a big bank robbery with lots of victims. Okay, I'm impressed.
This book actually has a Groundhog Day' theme. I've seen it several times in movies or TV episodes... but I don't think I ever read it in a book.
I think Harper pulls it off very nicely. It has a sense of shock, sense of thrill of limited timeline (and for Emma to fix her mistakes a long the way), as well as moving the romantic development between herself and Lukas (the Vampire Lord) forward. This book gives chance for Emma to show off her investigating skill - and she doesn't have to die in this book! I call that an improvement!
There's another great storyline on the side as well, related to master criminal Devereau Webb who is introduced in the previous book. I see that it results in a spin-off series... which makes me curious to read it. Yeah, I see what you did there, author!
With this third book, this series has firmly entered my to-watch-to-read list.

I was so incredibly invested and on the edge of my seat with this one

I received a copy of this book from the author, but this review is all my own!
I love this series and this book was no exception. It was really funny with a plot arc I haven't read about before, but have seen! Detective Emma Bellamy was definitely one determined young woman in this book despite all the obstacles in her way.
When supernaturals appear to be causing chaos all over London, Emma races to find out what is going on, but the real crime happens to be taking place back in the supe quarter. There she finds something much worse is going on and when things hit a real low for her, she uses the mysterious gift given to her by Devereaux Webb. This gift starts a whole series of events that no-one apart from Emma can remember. She must use the time this gift has given her to stop this awful crime from occurring and to find out who is behind it all before time runs out.
I love the way Emma handled the situation she was in and how everyone else around her accepted her explanations without being overly concerned that she was going insane! I also loved the fact that she finally admitted to her feelings for Lukas and can't wait to see how that relationships now moves forwards. The culprit was who I suspected even though the evidence for that person didn't show up until the very end - can't wait to see what happens to them next either!
And we got a short synopsis of the new Devereaux Webb book - am looking forward to reading his spin-off story too!

It's groundhog day. It was fun experiencing the mystery in 4 different replays but I think the book would become tedious if I ever tried rereading this one

An schlechten Tagen braucht Emma ihre zwölf Stunden, um nach einem Tod wiederaufzuerstehen, aber dieses Mal kommen ihre Kräfte als Phönix kaum zum Einsatz. Dafür steckt sie in einer kleinen Zeitschleife und hat die Chance, den Verlauf dieses katastrophalen Tages zu verändern. Mir hat hier wieder gut gefallen, wie wir immer tiefer in die magische Welt gezogen werden, aber immer nur kleine neue Details dazukommen, sodass man der Handlung weiterhin sehr gut folgen kann.
Auch dieser magische Fall war wieder spannend, auch wenn ich besonders am Anfang nicht so ganz verstanden habe, warum die Sache mit den Werwölfen und Vampiren so ein großer, dramatischer Fall ist. Der Supernatural Squad hatte seit Emmas Ankunft schon einige Erfolge vorzuweisen, aber sie müssen sich immer noch gegenüber der magischen Wesen behaupten, für die sie zuständig sind. Auch die Zusammenarbeit mit normalen Polizisten, die noch ihre Vorurteile und Ängste haben, ist nicht immer einfach.
Die Liebesgeschichte mit Lord Horvath kommt auch nicht zu kurz, aber die Autorin lässt uns immer mit dem Wunsch zurück, dass es noch mehr wäre, und durch die Zeitschleife gibt es da auch kleine Verzögerungen und Hindernisse. Insgesamt hatte ich wieder viel Freude an der Geschichte, mit Romantik, Magie und die spannenden Ermittlungen ist es wieder ein gelungenes Romantasy-Abenteuer!

This series keeps getting better. Emma is a strong and smart character and I’m enjoying learning more about her with each book. The stories aren’t perfect, but any minor quibbles I’ve had have been eclipsed by my eagerness to find out what happens next.
It looks like there will be a book in a spin-off series then a return to this one. I look forward to reading them all.

In general i either love or am lukewarm with Helen harpers books. This series falls somewhat in the middle. The characters are lacking that je ne sais quoi that harper can do extremely well. But despite not being her best this series is entertaining enough.

This latest book in the series was okay the plot was interesting and everything fell together enough for me to continue with the series. I wish there was more substance to the characters and the world was fleshed out but the books an average and quick read.

I'm continuing my back-to-back binge read of this series and I'm having a lot of fun. I've already read 'Brimstone Bound' and 'Infernal Enchantment'. Now I'm on to 'Midnight Smoke'.
The book opens with us finding out about Emma's uncle, the man who raised her after her parents were murdered when she was a child. This was beautifully done. The strain of the gap between the two of them, each trying to do the right thing by the other, was palpable. I liked that the story started here, taking the time to get me back inside Emma's head before plunging into that action.
Immediately after that, there's a lot of very dramatic action, that makes great use of London as a setting and which has Emma right in the heart of things. Then there's a 'did that REALLY just happen?' moment that's very well done.
After that, the book takes on two tropes that I don't normally enjoy, especially together: a 'Groundhog Day' structure and a heist theme. When I first realised that, my reaction was, 'What a shame - I've enjoyed this series so far.'
I should have had more faith. 'Midnight Smoke' turned out to be a very enjoyable read.
Helen Harper handled the whole Groundhog Day thing skilfully. She didn't make me sit through the same thing time after time with only small variations. Each 'reset' was quite different and made an interesting story in its own right. Adding the heist theme also provided a real puzzle to solve rather than using the Groundhog Day thing to make a character deepen their understanding of themselves.
This is the third book in the series and the benefits of all that world-building are starting to show. We're dealing with characters from the two earlier books who have clear story arcs of their own. There's also clear character and ability development for Emma, the main character, and changes in her relationships with the other characters.
The new characters are also interesting. The story brought Emma into conflict with a senior CID officer of the bully-bluster-and-bang-the-bastards-up variety who sees Emma as an irritating inexperienced girlie in the way of his investigation and who sees all Supernaturals as criminals, freaks and probably terrorists. As a picture of the Met under Cressida Dick, I found it very convincing and it made for some great confrontation scenes.
There was a bit more romance in this book, including the inevitable sex scene, but both fitted well into the storyline and character development and the writing was good enough that I never found myself rolling my eyes.
By the end of the book, looking back at the story arc for the series so far, I was able to admire how well the books in the series fit together. Each one is a full story but each story carries the people along a specific path.
Now, I want the fourth book, 'Scorched Heart', to see whether the series is going where I think it's going.

This was fantastic. The best book of the series so far and an excellent deployment of the 'time loop' (aka Groundhog Day) trope.
In this one Emma gets the call of a suicidal vampire threatening to jump off the top of the London Eye. Quickly followed up with a bunch of werewolves who have taken a tour boat hostage, quickly followed by a bank robbery in a bank used by the Supes where there were casualties. And to top off a crazy day there is a horrific murder that hits close to home.
Demoralized and despondent and in shock after her long day from hell, Emma drinks a potion that has been given to her by the enigmatic Deveraux Webb -- the urbane outlaw who lords over a merry band of thieves -- as a thank you for the solid she did his niece in the last book.
Whereupon she finds herself in her car midday receiving a call about a suicidal vampire climbing up the London Eye.
It takes her more than a long moment to get over the shock and disbelief of what is actually happening. But she realizes what an opportunity she is given. She has the option of preventing multiples deaths because she knows what is going to happen.
After an exhausting and not as successful an outcome as she needed on this re-do, Emma tracks down Deveraux and learns that she get three resets until the timeline stops rewinding and goes forward as usual.
I loved how this played out. First I loved how many different things happened throughout the day, there was a kind of chaos of events. I loved that in trying to fix things, Emma causes other outcomes that she could not predict for and that in turn caused others problems. So while she prevents some tragedies she knew happened that first time, her interference just caused different ones. Each reset she learns a bit more. Until the final one -- the ones she knows matters the most -- she works smarter, not harder.
I enjoyed every moment. I enjoyed riding along with Emma as she figured out what she did wrong on the first and even second repeat, learning that it wasn't as important to try to stop every bad thing from happening (there were so many) but instead knowing where she had to be to subtly redirect things to win the day. I thought the writing of this was clever and fun.
I added this installment to my romance shelves because the romance kicks in between Emma and Lukas in a big way.
The audiobooks are really well narrated.

There are so many books I forgot to update this year. I am trying to remember them all...
Anyway, this whole series is candy for the brain. Seriously engaging, cute, fun, and non-stop adventures. I have a feeling that all of the books in this series are going to be a 4 stars.

Still enjoying this series immensely, just wasn’t super into the whole Ground Hog day plot-line. I loved the Emma/Lucas relationship and how it progressed in this installment, though!

So oder so ähnlich könnte man diesen Band hier wohl grob umschreiben, denn Emma wird etwas durch die Zeit geschickt und findet das anfangs gar nicht so cool.
Die Funken zwischen Lucas und ihr gehen endlich auf eine nächste Stufe und ich freu mich wie ein Keks, dass sie endlich den Mut findet. Außerdem bindet sie dieser Fall extrem ein und sie versucht mehr über ihre Familie herauszufinden. Das alles in 12h zu erledigen, scheint euch unmöglich? Nicht für Emma.
Eine tolle Story und auch Emma wird immer besser in ihrem Job und im Umgang mit den Übernatürlichen. Professionelle Polizeiarbeit und aufregende Hetzjagden inklusive, kommen wir am Ende mal wieder zu einer hervorragend inszenierten Tat, die spektakulär von Emma aufgeklärt wird.
Auch das Hörbuch ist hierbei wieder ganz großes Kino. Kurzweilig und rasant geht es hier zur Sache und ich freue mich, dass es bald eine Fortsetzung gibt, denn das Ende war das hier garantiert nicht.

Meh. I feel like this entire series could be summed up as: problems with furries. I don't know how the other sup species deal with these shinanigans. I dunno. I don't really enjoy the books, but I don't hate them. I'm sort of bored-reading them, if that makes sense.

"Magic Smoke" ist der dritte Band der Firebrand Reihe von Helen Harper. Das Buch erschien am 1. Dezember 2022 im LYX Verlag, umfasst 296 Seiten und ist als ebook erhältlich. Ich habe bereits zwei Reihen der Autorin gelesen. Eine hat mich gut unterhalten. Die Andere war ein unerwartetes Highlight für mich. Daher war von vornherein für mich klar, dass ich auch diese Reihe der Autorin lesen werde. Ich habe dem Klappentext des ersten Bandes nur wenig Beachtung geschenkt und meine Unaufmerksamkeit wurde belohnt. Schon zu Anfang der Geschichte wurde ich überrascht und das war ein einnehmender Einstieg in den Auftakt sowie in die gesamte Reihe, obwohl das Ende von Band 1 für mich etwas enttäuschend und an den Haaren herbeigezogen war. Band 2 hat mir dann auch gut gefallen, aber für 5 Sterne hat es nicht gereicht.
Ich habe mich auf den dritten Band gefreut und war ab der ersten Seite gespannt bei der Sache. Dort landen eigentlich nur Versager, Polizisten kurz vor der Pension oder welche die etwas vermasselt haben - die unterste Liga. So dachte Emma früher. Doch ihre Meinung hat sich geändert und auch ihre Einstellung den Übernatürlichen gegenüber. Sie will sich als akzeptierte Polizistin hervortun, Umstände verbessern und Brücken schlagen. Das ist ihr bisher gut gelungen, doch jetzt sind diese Erfolge in Gefahr. Emma ist eine sympathische Protagonistin. Sie weiß was sie will und sie hat ein starkes Gerechtigkeitsempfinden. Eine Hauptprotagonistin mit Ecken und Kanten, Fehlern und Schwächen, mit Humor und Charme.
In diesem Band hat sich die Autorin eines Aspektes bedient, den ich ausgesprochen gerne mochte. Dies führte dazu, das dieser dritte Teil zu meinem bislang liebsten der Reihe geworden ist. Obwohl romantische Verwicklungen bei Firebrand nicht im Vordergrund stehen, hat sich langsam eine Liebesgeschichte angebahnt. Ich habe darauf gewartet, dass sich diesbezüglich endlich mehr tut und wurde nicht enttäuscht. Trotzdem rutscht das Thema Liebe nicht in den Vordergrund. Bei den Nachforschungen zu ihrer eigenen Person ist Emma in diesem Band nicht wirklich weitergekommen. Ich kann mir gut vorstellen, dass sie im nächsten Band mehr herausfinden wird. Unterhaltsam, einnehmend und zum Lächeln. Ich wurde wunderbar unterhalten und werde die Reihe auf jeden Fall weiter verfolgen.
Erzählt wird aus der Sicht von Emma. Der Schreibstil der Autorin ist anregend. Einfach, klar, humorvoll, locker und flüssig geht es durch die Zeilen. Die Sprache fand ich zur Geschichte passend und das Erzähltempo angenehm.
Fazit: "Magic Smoke" ist der dritte Band der Firebrand Reihe von Helen Harper. Ich fand die Geschichte unterhaltsam, einnehmend und zum Lächeln. Ich wurde wunderbar unterhalten und werde die Reihe auf jeden Fall weiter verfolgen. Für mich bislang der beste Band der Reihe. Von mir gibt es ***** Sterne.

"Magic Smoke" ist der dritte Band der Firebrand Reihe von Helen Harper. Das Buch erschien am 1. Dezember 2022 im LYX Verlag, umfasst 296 Seiten und ist als ebook erhältlich. Ich habe bereits zwei Reihen der Autorin gelesen. Eine hat mich gut unterhalten. Die Andere war ein unerwartetes Highlight für mich. Daher war von vornherein für mich klar, dass ich auch diese Reihe der Autorin lesen werde. Ich habe dem Klappentext des ersten Bandes nur wenig Beachtung geschenkt und meine Unaufmerksamkeit wurde belohnt. Schon zu Anfang der Geschichte wurde ich überrascht und das war ein einnehmender Einstieg in den Auftakt sowie in die gesamte Reihe, obwohl das Ende von Band 1 für mich etwas enttäuschend und an den Haaren herbeigezogen war. Band 2 hat mir dann auch gut gefallen, aber für 5 Sterne hat es nicht gereicht.

Ein neuer Tag - viele neue Rätsel und ein wenig Kopfzerbrechen

Doch Emma hat keine Zeit, Atem zu holen, denn ein Vampir klettert auf das London Eye und drei Werwölfe entführen einen Touristenbus. Und als wäre das alles nicht schon genug Aufregung, gibt es da ja auch noch den attraktiven Vampir Lord Horvath, der ständig ihr Nähe sucht und Emma mit seiner überwältigenden Anziehungskraft stärker durcheinanderbringt, als sie zugeben will ...
Meinung:
Emma hat es wirklich nicht leicht. Sie ist kaum drei Monate im Amt und immer ist irgendwas in ihrem Dezernat los, doch sie nimmt es mit Humor. Vielleicht hilft es auch, dass Lord Horvath immer in ihrer Nähe ist und die Anziehungskraft zunimmt.
Der Schreibstil ist locker, leicht und spannend. Als Leser*in verfolgt man gespannt wie Emma versucht die Schuldigen für Geschehnisse zu finden. Mir hat in diesem Buch besonders die Beziehung zwischen Emma und Lukas gefallen.
Fazit:
Die Firebrand-Reihe geht spannend weiter und ich freue mich schon auf das nächste Band und mehr Emma-Lukas-Momente.

Hörbuchrezension
Bei diesem Hörbuch handelt es sich um den 3. Teil der Reihe. Insgesamt umfasst die Reihe übrigens 6 Teile. Es ist insgesamt 9 Stunden und 1 Minute lang und wird wieder von Marylu Poolman vorgelesen, die bereits die anderen Teile der Reihe vorgelesen hat. Ich mag ihre Stimme sehr, sie passt super zu Emma.
Das Ebook ist bereits im Dezember erschienen und jetzt endlich auch das Hörbuch. Ich musste es sofort hören, denn ich mag die Reihe sehr. Der 3. Teil ist für mich tatsächlich der beste Teil der Reihe. Der aktuelle Fall an dem Emma arbeitet ist gar nicht so besonders, aber die Art wie Emma dieses Mal dieses löst, auf jeden Fall. Hier werde ich auf keinen Fall viel verraten, lasst euch einfach überraschen.
Und dann wäre da ja noch die angedeutete Romanze zwischen Emma und Lord Horvath, die hier in diesem Teil deutlich mehr thematisiert wird.
Ich hoffe doch sehr, dass die restlichen 3 Teil auch noch übersetzt werden, freue mich schon auf weitere Fälle für Emma. Für mich war das Hörbuch ein Highlight und es gibt dieses Mal eine klare Höhr-Empfehlung mit voller Punktzahl.

This was a fun read, with lots happening and a mystery to solve.
A vampire is threatening to jump off of the London Eye, werewolves have taken a tour bus captive and to top it off, while these distractions are taking place the supernatural bank is robbed.
Every way Emma turns something is in her way, people not talking, an obnoxious, racist, CDI inspector who is in her way. The crime lord Devereau Webb gives her a potion to drink, turning her world into a “Groundhog Day” episode.
Each time she repeats the day, more information becomes clearer. One of the main points is that the slow romance between Emma and Lukas speeds up as their feelings become more obvious.
There is some action but most of this story focuses on solving the crime.
It was a very enjoyable book. This series is becoming a favourite.
