Baseball analyst is thrown a curveball when she is whisked back in time...
And one of those curveballs is thrown by a blue-eyed pitcher!
ESPN baseball analyst Amy Spalding is swept back in time by a magical brooch and finds herself in 1909 New York City. With only the clothes on her back, a phenomenal memory for New York Giants players and stats, and a brooch that won’t take her back home, she does what she has to do, pawns her jewelry.
When New York Times best-selling author Jack Mallory discovers Amy in the background of the iconic photograph of Ty Cobb kicking up a cloud of dirt as he slides hard into third base, Jack along with Kevin Allen, JL O’Grady, Connor O'Grady, and Pete Parrino launch a rescue mission to return Amy to the present before her boyfriend goes on trial for her murder.
Can the time travelers hold out against stalkers, PTSD, phobias, and failing relationships long enough to find a thief and recover the stolen diamond brooch so they can all go home? And can Jack and Amy find the soul mate of their dreams on a voyage of lost hopes and new beginnings?
Katherine grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and attended college in New Jersey, where she earned a BA in Psychology and a minor in Criminal Justice. After attending the Philadelphia Institute for Paralegal Training, she returned to Central Kentucky and worked as a real estate and tax paralegal. Katherine is a marathoner and lives in Lexington, Kentucky where she writes full time.
4.5 stars. I began (slowly) working my way through this series three years ago. There are so many names and ancestry references that it can be extremely confusing, even though there’s a character list and family tree (not that I can make it out on my Kindle) at the beginning of the book. It didn’t take long to get back into the swing of things though, after which I thoroughly enjoyed the plot. The featured characters are all smart, beautiful, strong, accomplished people, which may not be totally realistic, but they do have to deal with some real-world hurdles along the way. I love the attention to detail in the historical settings and learning the facts behind the fiction.
Having been greatly honoured to read a preview of The Diamond Brooch, I can assure fans of Katherine Lowry-Logan, and her wonderful Brooches series, that they cannot fail to be thrilled with this new novel in the series. It is a genuine blockbuster of a novel that will keep you glued to it until the final page. Time travel, and all the subsequent rollercoaster of happenings, grip you all the way through, mystery, adventure, romance and thriller hold your breath moments are all packed in there. I don't agree with some that this can be read as stand-alone, Katherine has weaved such an intricate family tree now, and characters stories and backgrounds mean that as a stand alone there will be parts that you may not grasp. The richness of the Brooches books is the sheer tapestry of people and events that blend the stories together. If you haven't read the others, you need to, and I would recommend in order. I came across this series on seeing a review on Book 3, the synopsis totally intrigued me and following the nicest of replies from the author telling me the books were a series, I went ahead and purchased 1-3 (the story outlines were enough to intrigue me), since then of course I have them all. I will be reading these for as long as Katherine writes them, they have everything to keep the most discerning reader captivated. My overall single word for these stories would be ADDICTIVE!
After reading The Diamond Brooch, I believe Katherine Lowry Logan hit a grand slam on this installment of the adventures of the Mallory/Montgomery/MacKenna/Fraser clan. Readers of this series waited for a while for this one, but it was well worth it! You can pick this book up without reading the others in the series, but I recommend reading the other books before reading the latest offering. Current characters such as Elliott Fraser, Braham McCabe, Charlotte Mallory McCabe and Jack Mallory are involved in another adventure, this time to 1909 New York. The reader is introduced to Amy Spaulding, a missing ESPN sports analyst, whose image was recognized in the background of a 1909 photo of Ty Cobb by members of the clan. Characters from the New ones are introduced in such a way they seem like members of the clan before the end of this book, and familiar characters are weaved in the story in a natural way where it doesn't seem forced. I find myself re-reading Logan's books multiple times because I miss layers of the narrative on the first read. I also re-read them to get me through until Logan gets another book finished. However, this book is one of the stronger ones in this series because it allows the reader to see characters flaws and all. I don't want to give anymore details because it would give the story line away. Once you pick it up, you won't be able to put it down.
For the last couple of books, our hero Jack Mallory has been totally irresponsible and selfish. His totally reckless actions have endangered not only the entire mission, but also those who love and admire him. I was totally frustrated with him that I not only wanted to slap him silly, I wanted to shake him until his pea brain turned to mush. And, I am the most non-violent person you will find. This book brilliantly and beautifully rehabilitates his character totally. I not only want to hug Jack now but I totally love him. Shock of shocks! And our heroine, Amy Spalding, was absolutely perfect for Jack!
This book also continues JL and Kevin's relationship, which runs onto some serious, shaky ground.
As usual, the amount of first rate research involved in this book shines. Please, please don't stop writing these books, Ms. Lowry Logan. I just love them so! I hate leaving this lovely world you have created. ;)
Following in the steps of the previous Celtic Brooch books, this one is a roller coaster of emotions; all of them make an appearance at one point or another. At times I was laughing or crying and occasionally I wanted to shake a character until their teeth rattled a little. I was so engaged in the characters and the world the story weaves that I got completely lost in the book more than once. There were some things in a previous book that created my only less than five star review for this series, and they were resolved beautifully in this one. At the end of it, I was happy with the story but deeply sad it ended. That's the best compliment I can give as a reader. As Jane Austen said "...but for my own part, if a book is well written, I always find it too short." It's a home run ;-)
Love this series! The characters are so relatable and real. The twists and turns, relationships and romance in the story keep you wanting more. Jack and Amy have been my favorite couple so far and the story line with Kevin and JL was well thought out and written. The character lineup in the beginning of the book made me a little afraid I would be confused since the last one but as I read they just fell into place because they have all been so memorable. Can't wait for the next one!!
It's always wonderful to read another excellent book in the Celtic Brooch series. Katherine Lowery Logan through her wrighting has brought to life the characters in these books. The Diamond Brooch made me laugh, feel moments of great tension, and moments of joy. When I read her books I'm always a little disappointed when I reach the end because I want to keep reading about the wonderful people she has created in the book. I highly recommend this book to all Celtic Brooch readers!
I won't discuss the story because I don't want to spoil this wonderful book for you! It's everything in the description about the book and more.
If you enjoy reading and listening to heart-racing action adventure novels with a little bit of time-travel romance thrown into the mix, the Celtic Brooch series is for you! Katherine Lowry Logan writes compelling stories with well-developed characters and a family dynamic that is truly outstanding. The 7th book in the series, The Diamond Brooch, picks up about a year after The Three Brooches ends, wherein Jack Mallory really screwed up and put the entire family in danger after he met – and lost – the supposed love of his life (he still hasn’t forgiven himself for it). Trying for a bit of redemption, Jack and few family members travel back to early 1900’s New York City to rescue ESPN baseball analyst Amy Spalding after Jack discovers Amy in the background of the iconic photograph of Ty Cobb. They need to return Amy to the present before her boyfriend goes on trial for her murder. However, Amy is no longer in possession of the brooch that brought her to the past because she pawned it so she could afford to live. When she attempts to retrieve it, she finds out that the brooch was stolen. The rest of the story is trying to locate the brooch, as well as Jack and Amy’s struggle to resist the power of the brooch (they keep denying that they are each other’s soul mate).
All of the Celtic Brooch books are narrated by Teri Schnaubelt, who does an amazing job narrating these lengthy novels. She uses differing voices for male and female characters and uses varying accents. It is the longest book I listened to this year running at over 20 hours; yet, I never felt like the story was drawn out unnecessarily because the story moves at a fast pace and it packs in the action. [If you have not read any of the books in the series before, please read The Ruby Brooch, The Sapphire Brooch, and The Three Brooches before attempting to read this one]. Simply put, I can't recommend this audiobook and the entire series enough. Brava!
This installment had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Just when I thought I had it all figured out there was a twist. Jack is stellar in this book and Amy gives as good as she gets. And my oh my Kevin and JL!!! What a ride.
I anxiously awaited book 7 of the Celtic Brooch series, "The Diamond Brooch". Author Katherine Lowry Logan came through again, with an engaging story about a set of brooches that assist a mostly Scottish family in time travel. One twist in the series is that the brooches appear to connect people who are soul mates. Each of the books introduces a new brooch. MacKlenna family legend and ancient stone carvings suggest that there originally were 12 brooches, which, when reunited may function together although no one knows what the end result may be.
In book 7 Jack Mallory and his family travel to 1909 New York to rescue a female sportscaster who appears in old photos of that time. The family, as usual, encounter dangers they hadn't anticipated and bring people they meet in the past to join their modern day clan.
You will want to read this book to learn about early baseball, the challenges of living in 1909, and much more. I do suggest that you read the series in order so that you can become acquainted with the cast of characters and their back history a few people at a time. Once you read #1 you will want to keep reading.
Book 7 in an extraordinary series about time travel - this time we find ourselves in New York early 1900s. A continuation of a series which, quite frankly you should read to know the cast of characters -which keeps growing. The baseball elements are quintessential Ms Logan. You can be enthralled about a new found passion. From New York we move to a transatlantic voyage and end up in Italy. It is a very fast paced and jammed pact book. Previous books were slower paced I loved that about this series. However this book at least to me is a book that ties loose ends up and opens up a new set of stories.Families grow but what is critical to this series is the core family unit- especially Elliot and Meredith whose love is always there. I love having characters from history come and go - but in always have that special feeling for those special characters that Katherine first created. 7 brooches down 5 to go what an adventure we are on- which will be about a Pearl Brooch
The seventh book in Katherine Lowry Logan's Celtic Brooch series is another wonderful story. It could be read as a stand alone but will be more rich and enjoyable if you have read the others in the series. Familiar characters are re-introduced, in this installment, a favorite yet troubled character Jack Mallory and several others are on a time traveling adventure to 1909 to rescue a woman who is from the 21st Century. She has to cope, with surviving in time when women were not able to be as independent and self sufficient as they are in the present. If you enjoy strong, well developed characters, who are involved in time traveling adventures that are plausible in the world Katherine has created. It is filled with adventure, suspense, and a couple of terrific love stories. It is worth your time to invest the time to read the previous books in the series and then enjoy this rollicking adventure.
By: Katherine Lowry Logan Narrated by: Teri Schnaubelt Series: The Celtic Brooch, Book 7 of 10
I listened to this book at 1.40 X
1ST OFF. I LOVED THE SINGING
They just keep getting better and better. 1909. / Present This one was about more then one set of couples. It was focused on two people but really included the rest of the "family". And their stores too.
If i didn't know there were 3 more books, I would have thought of this book as a wrap up book.
This book is full of action, adventures, romance, losts of time traveling and all the feels. I loved it. Looking forward to the last 3 books.
Vocal artist Teri Schnaubelt did another great job. So may characters and accents. Each book adds more characters which means more voices, and its like know problem. 10 Stars out of 5.
Katherine Lowry Logan has a hit a home run with The Diamond Brooch. In her dependable way, she has given us a delightful, well-researched story of ESPN commentator Amy Spalding who is swept back in time to 1909 New York City. Our beloved, dysfunctional, broken-hearted Jack Mallory has gone back with this MacKlenna Adventure Company team to save her, with no intention of falling in love. After so many adventures back in time, Jack should know never to bet against a brooch. New dynamic characters are welcomed into the family in this fast-paced, detail oriented, chock full of baseball tome. While not the shortest of beach reads, the entertainment and mystery never stops. You can always count on Katherine Lowry Logan to deliver a grand adventure. This has become my favorite brooch book yet!
If I could aware this book anything higher than a 5 I would. So so loved this book, the characters, story lines and historical facts are amazing. The Macklenna Clan is beginning to feeling like a little family. I want to keep on seeing how their lives unfold and what is next for them. Although it is a time travelling series, I love the fact that the author includes serious, normal and everyday trails and tribulations in life that can affect anyone. So so highly recommend so if you haven't read them it is worth a try. Although the author does explain the history of the clan within the stories, you can read the books out of series and understand what is going on, but if you haven't then starting with the first book, The Ruby Brooch is a good start. Yippee can't wait for the next one.
Jack and Amy's Story in the Diamond Brooch. I loved it! This story was another great addition to the wonderful series. I love baseball for one and especially having a strong woman reporter talking about it. This book has a lot of game interest, mystery, and romance. You get to see most of all the old characters in previous books which brings you to home base right away. I couldn't put it down once I started. Made my emotions happy, fearful, excited and sad, but always interest what was on the next page. Highly recommend this 7th book in the series. Well done with a lot of research and details .
I started this series last year and was able to get the next book and seamlessly go from one to the next. Now though, I will have to wait until Katherine comes out with the next one in this wonderfully woven adventure with the McKlenna, Montgomery, Macabe, Fraser, McBain, and Mallory clan! By now I feel as though I know these characters 'verra' well and I can't wait to see where we are going and with whom. The brooches are changing in power and ability and it's so fun to see what happens next. I loved seeing Jack come into his own in this adventure and I'm a little concerned with what could be happening with Elliot. Oh the pins and needles.....of anticipation!
This is the best book yet!!! 💜 I read the first three when they came out and re-read them before starting the others. I did not think they could be topped, but these last two were even better. You feel like you are there in the middle of the action experiencing everything right along with the characters. The only bad thing there is is after I finish this next book, I will have to start waiting for the books to come out. I loved being reading the whole series. They closed right into the next one without skipping a beat. Keep up the fantastic work.
I have been enjoying this series (The Celtic Brooch) ever since I read Kit's tale in book 1, but this one was action-packed and seemed to be longer than previous books(?)... We get to Jack & Amy's story, but also catch-up on Kevin & JL and then the whole clan. Great characters throughout, exciting time-travel adventures, steamy romance and lots more.... What's not to like?!?
Again a huge thanks to the author, Katherine Lowry Logan for putting this whole series onto Kindle Unlimited!! ❣️
I read this book as part of my Kindle Unlimited subscription (free book, but I pay for the subscription)
I have always been a huge fan of baseball. My mom and dad taught me to play and I was good. I regret that I stopped playing after grade school. Katherine seems to know what things I love. She highlights them in each book. I was delighted to hear Jack's story and I adore Amy. Having Jack on a ship also made me think of the Titanic. :) I've been worried about Kevin and JL, and was relieved that their story entwined with Jack and Amy's. I adore all of the new characters that were introduced. I can't wait to hear more of their story!
There was a lot of good in this installment of the series but I almost didn't get past the first 3rd of the book. It was so baseball heavy that unless you are a big ball fan it was incredibly boring and it got in the way of bonding with the new female character, Amy. Jack has not been an easy character to like through the previous books so I wasn't really looking forward to his story either but he fully redeemed himself. It was action packed after that first 3rd of the book and it was quite the emotional journey. Worth the read if you've been following the saga.
I read and reviewed this in 2017 and just finished my second reread. An excellent story that pulls so many of our favorites from earlier books and introduces several new players. Some old scores are settled, some new friendships formed, and some old friends are brought back together and theur bonds are cemented. I love this entire series and would just love to sit down and finish the remaining three books before the next release. But life doesn't always work that way. A great series that rivals "Outlander" in my opinion.
First, ever since we met Jack, his dialog has left me rolling with laughter each time he asks a question. I would have missed this had I not listened on Audible. "How are you?" Jack asked - sounds like "How are you, Jackass?" - every single time.
I left off a star for the simple reason that I was lost with all of the baseball references. I'm not a fan, so they were meaningless to me and, IMO, didn't move the story along.
Still, I'm on tenterhooks worrying about Elliott. Hopefully, that will be resolved in the next book. I love that guy and I'm not yet ready to lose him!
I have read a lot of books, this series is so captivating you're left wanting more. I love how each and every one of the characters feel like my own family and I truly care about them all. Katherine Lowry Logan brings you into the story as If your standing right beside The main character. Thank you for taking me on a ride though time and allowing me to gain a relationship wth each of these characters. Your so awesome!!!!!
I really loved the baseball theme in this book! But it was kind of confusing too many things were going on at the same time. I wanted to know more about Amy's going back in time and the mystery on the ship. Also how Jack, Amy, Carolina Rose and Catherine Lily all fit together. (it seemed like their story was kind of just explained toward the end as a way to finish the book) it was a good story anyway! (There needed to be less about Kevin and JL's problems or it needed to be a longer story)

I enjoyed this book the best in the series so far. I've liked them all, which keeps me reading them of course, but somehow this story captured my imagination more than the previous ones. Each book brings new and interesting characters, trials, and the opportunity for overcoming them. Jack Mallory and Amy Spaulding make a good couple, and I was happy that JL and Kevin resolved their issues. Can't wait to read the next one!

This time the author takes us back to1909. The story centers around baseball, and has lots of action, mystery, twists and turns. A lot of research obviously went into the writing, with history intertwining well with the tale. Added to that we are given two love stories to follow, one fresh and new and the other a reboot. The characters are well rounded, making this an interesting read!
This Brooch series is addicting. I love how the author has written the different stories of the characters but always ties it back into family. The family always finds the good in each other even though they each have their individual faults. The diamond brooch is a great story and it sucked me in because I'm a baseball fan myself. Love the suspense and love story. Great characters, and the settings are so well described. Loved it!!
