Definitely amusing, but unfortunately featured a rushed romance.

In this second book, Ivy is back and still lazy as ever, but this time she is infiltrating a reality tv show reminiscent of 'Survivor' only with a magical twist. This part of the story was much more amusing than I was anticipating, as I absolutely dislike watching reality tv shows in real life.

Unfortunately, Ivy's interactions with the love interest Raphael Winter were oddly stilted and then suddenly shifted into love declarations out of nowhere. It was disappointing given the nice slow-burn vibe up to the very end of the previous book. I was hoping for a more gradual relationship build-up. Additionally, there was a choice that Ivy was given that was barely explained with very high-stakes consequences and yet Ivy goes right along with it, which really doesn't go along with her personality up to that point.

However, this was still a fun enough read for me to round up to four stars and continue on with the next book. I'm interested to see what happens next given Raphael's surprising decision and the repercussions to Ivy's actions.

Star Witch
The Lazy Girl's Guide to Magic, Book 2
By: Helen Harper
Narrated by: Tanya Eby
OH MY GOD! This series is so funny! I love it! A funny, slightly overweight, slightly lazy witch, but smart, powerful, witch with a gorgeous witch that likes things orderly. She has a cat that can talk, boy, can he! She spelled him so he can talk with her and the cat is my favorite character...lol. Although Brutus the cat doesn't have much of a role in this book, he does in the other books. In this book, there is plenty of fun things going on. I giggled the whole way through!
The narrator is half the fun. She make the characters really pop! I don't think it would be as fun if I read the books. She adds her own funny way about her to the characters and I can't help myself but giggle and even give a snort here and there! Super fun!

Star Witch is book two in The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Magic by Helen Harper.

OMG this was another AMAZING and FUN novel in The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Magic. I had a blast reading this novel.

The murder mystery was unique. As to who did it well I didn’t guess correctly neither did the characters. It’s great how the author keeps it hidden until the very end. I love being surprised on who did it.

The romance angel was subtle and weaved into the story nicely. I liked that the romance was secondary to the story. We see Winter and Ivy growing closer together, but with the ending we are left wondering a few things. That ending was a shocker!

The epilogue was all in Winter’s POV and I really enjoyed that. I also liked how the author had Brutus, Ivy’s familiar and talking cat, say more then the two words we've been getting in this novel.

Star Witch was such a fun read. I couldn’t put it down. I really like this series and it's fun characters.

Continuing from Slouch Witch, the witty slacker witch Ivy Wilde is approached by the Ipsissimus of the Order and Ivy's former partner Rafe Winters to help with an investigation into a murder on the set of a reality TV show. Enchantment is a Survivor-like reality show with magic and witches as it's gimmick. Ivy, Winter and Brutus (Ivy's brilliant asshole of a cat) are soon in the thick of things.

Solid second book that maintains the light tone and humor of the first book while solving a mystery and cementing the relationship between the leads.

Just a note on the audio narrator Tanya Eby who is doing a brilliant job. This series is set in the UK and Eby does a great turn on nearly every accent that is represented and differentiates voices very well.

Highly entertaining second book in this series.

It’s another mystery for Ivy and Winter to solve. This time Ivy finds herself on her favourite survivor-style television show, Enchantment, following a mysterious death.

It’s the characters that stand out for me in this series, particularly Ivy. However, there was one major decision Ivy made leading up to the climax that felt out of character. It was necessary to the plot, but a little more resistance on her part would have seemed appropriate. The book also ended a little abruptly. But I really love the humour in this series and I’ll be reading book 3.

This is second in a series and you really want to read the first before this one. Most of the relationships are setup there and things will make much more sense if you have, I think.

I didn't find this as enchanting as the first book, but I still enjoyed it. The biggest drawback is that Winter and Ivy aren't as together as they were in the first. They're sort of working together, but have to maintain distance for story reasons. Also, the setting doesn't work as well in this one in that the reality show dominates the landscape and it was pretty silly, really. Which makes sense because, hello, reality show (with the silliness enhancer of revolving around witch wannabes).

Also the secondary characters in charge of the show were more broadly (i.e. shallowly) drawn than Harper allowed in the first book.

Which isn't to say that I didn't enjoy myself because I did. I read it pretty much straight through with only minor life/friends breaks for sanity. And I'll definitely pick up the next. It does drop a star on the weaker secondary characters, shallower setting, and the end where . But I'm still all-in on Winter and Ivy and can't wait to see what they get up to in the next story.

The next installment in "The lazy Girl's Guide To Magic" series is just as good as the first one.

Adeptus Exemptus Winter is back, with another murder and mystery. This time it takes her to the set of Enchantment, her favourite show of all time.

This book includes hallucinations, Scotts, more cats, Highlands, sheep, zombies and more magic.

Another must read for anyone. The world building is kind of cool. A mix between the modern world and magic, a place where Oxford is not only a campus for students, it's also where the Order resides.

Ahoy there me mateys!  Those who have been aboard for a while know that urban fantasy and I are not usually friends.  In fact we tend to be enemies.  I can't explain why.  It's just a truth.  And yet recently I loved the DFZ series.

Then when I was perusing me Goodreads' ports for plunder list to find something that fit me mood, the First Mate told me to scroll back up to see what had a caught his eye.  Apparently his unconscious mind was finding me the perfect book because I adored slouch witch.  I loved it so much that the next day I binged these next two books in the trilogy and the bonus novella.  Seriously I never really do that and for an UF series no less!  I took me longer to find time to write this combined review then to gobble up the books.

Though I try to post no spoilers, this be for the rest of a series and so read ahead at yer own peril . . .

So after the events of book one, Ivy just wants her life back to normal.  However, when she is offered a job on the set of her favorite reality series, of course she takes it.  The second book has Ivy assigned as a PA (production assistant) to help solve a murder that involves magic.  Now as far as film and film sets work, this book isn't really realistic at all.  This book was so silly and ridiculous that I kept rolling me eyes.  I kept reading though because I just love Ivy and her awesome cat Brutus.  Ivy is just so funny.  The plot wasn't completely the point.  The relationship drama was a bit dumb too.  The solution for who-dun-it wasn't a surprise.  But again Ivy and Brutus win.  I was entertained enough to immediately pick up the next book.

Book three was excellent fun and much better than the middle book.  Ivy's time on set not only kicked her butt but also had an unintentional magical side-effect that I can't share cause of spoilers.  Ivy finds herself drawn into yet another murder mystery.  Brutus is awesome.  This investigation unfolds very nicely.  The complications involved are so funny and there were unexpected events all over the place.  The romance still stays in the background while evolving well.  I absolutely loved how this series wrapped up.  Seriously delightful.  Especially the epilogue.  I am so glad I read it and would gush more but can't cause of spoilers.

Then there comes a bonus novella that is a holiday story set after the series is over.  There is a missing Christmas tree artifact that if not found signals very bad things.  So Ivy has to find it.  I really enjoyed getting to see Ivy and Winter settled into their new life routine and what Ivy's role has become in the magical world.  And of course Brutus rocks.  I am glad I read this.

Much thanks to Matey Sarah @ Brainfluff for letting me know about this fantastic series.  Arrr!

The heroine in this read and her cat Brutus makes this a charming series.........

I liked the first book in this series quite a bit more, but this still made for a fun read. I love our lazy, yet feisty heroine. Plus, more Brutus updates!!! There was very little in the sense of romance, but this still made for a fast paced read. I'll check out the next book in the series.

Sprecherin: Yesim Meisheit
Ich würde der Sprecherin 5 Sterne geben.

Amazing Read

This was an incredible read. Thank you Sharon J for recommending this book to me. This is the second book in The Lazy Girl’s Guide To Magic trilogy. I loved every minute of it. I thought this book was better than the first book. I love Ivy. She is my type of heroine. She is snarky and badass. I also loved that we got to see the Adeptus Exemptus Winter in this book, especially since there is a murder to be solved on the set on the reality tv show "Enchantment" where a contestant had mysteriously died. It also happens to be Ivy's favourite reality show, so it was fun to get inside her head and see how much she loves the world of "Enchantment". The world is unique and I really enjoyed the world of a reality tv show in book form. I loved the mixture of magic with the modern day world. The humor in the book makes the book funny, yet mysterious. I cannot wait to see what book 3 - Spirit Witch has in store for me. Overall, an amazing read.

2022 Review
I actually really love how this book connected to the first one and expands the world-building of the overall series. It was creative and kind of fun to see how not-so-powerful witches might make a go of it on reality TV. Kept things goofy while simultaneously managing to make the threat dark and powerful.
And also gave a surprisingly heart-wrenching conclusion?
I really loved how the heroine grew as a character. And that's not a sentence I expected to type in a series that I read because of the cat. (If you know you know.) But despite being lighthearted, it pushed through some pretty solid themes.
But...yeah, this one really needed an editor. In the first book you could kind of tell it was maybe self-published. But here you knew. Random line spacing or missing words dotted just about every chapter. Made things fun but also lowered the overall presentation.

"Did I want a torrid love affair or did I want to catch an evil murderer? Both, of course, but given the choice between the two it was a tough call."

Oh, man, I am really enjoying this series! It's not one of those dense ones you feel like you're asked to read for a school assignment. It's fun to read.

The mystery was a quirky little thing, taking place during the filming of Ivy's favorite reality TV show in Scotland. Again, she's in The Order's crosshairs and even though she'd rather be at home dozing, she can't just let everything fall to pieces.

I continue to enjoy her interactions with Winter, the Ipsissimus, Iqbal and of course, Brutus the talking cat.

fun, fabulous, follow up that was simply enchanting.....
Ivy is still her sassy self and now has gotten herself a spot on her favorite reality TV show Enchantment...Ivy had some fun interaction with the other contestants and crew.... but my favorite interactions were between Winter and her; The girl definitely has a way with words.... this is the kind of book that just puts a smile on your face, makes you laugh out loud, and adds a little fun to your day.... i’ve already started the third book, and I’m sure keeping my fingers crossed for even more!

*** narration:Tanya Eby really gives Ivy the perfect voice, even if it is an English woman speaking in an American accent!

Helen - You Naughty, Naughty Women!!! You know full well the use of a cliff hanger as a deadly weapon, whether for offense or defense, is strictly prohibited on Goodreads (or it should at least be) and is punishable by 20 lashes with a wet thong!!

PS in case you didn't guess ... I loved the book and am looking forward to the next one.

Titel der Reihe lautet "The Lazy Girl's Guide to Magic", was auch viel aussagekräftiger ist.

If there's one thing that Ivy Wilde, underachieving witch extraordinaire, loves more than lazing on the sofa with snacks and her demanding familiar Brutus. It's lounging on the sofa with snacks and watching Enchantment. A mixture between reality TV and game show Ivy can proudly boast that she's never missed an episode. So, when the Order of Magical Enlightenment want her to join the crew of the show for their new series Ivy can't believe her luck. The only draw back?  There's been a brutal murder of one of the contestants... and she has to be a runner and drag herself out of bed at 6am.

I absolutely adored the first book in this series which introduces Ivy Wilde our sassy and hilarious heroine. Ivy is perfectly content with her life as a taxi driver and despite her extremely powerful abilities as a witch, has no ambitions to climb the ladder. However, after helping out the witches college with a theft-turned-murder case they have come to her for help when a contestant is killed on a very popular TV programme Enchantment and they suspect magic may be involved. I loved the premise of this book, there is so many reality TV shows around and Helen Harper puts a magical (and murderous) twist on them in Star Witch.

The mystery in this book was a lot of fun the mixture of Ivy's fun personality and the craziness of "TV people" made for a really entertaining read. I actually think the story in this one was better than Slouch Witch as it didn't have to concentrate so much on world building, leaving more time for a juicy murder. Star Witch also has a little more romance. When we finished Slouch Witch it was on a bit of a cliffhanger in regard to Ivy and Winter's relationship. In this book there are definite developments which kept the romance junkie in me very happy.

This is becoming one of my favourite series, I love a book that can pack action, romance and humour all in one and this series has all that and more. It's a book you can read and have fun with, with a heroine that we can all identify with. Bring on the next book!

So I finished these first two books of the series in two days straight. Because I simply couldn't resist.

I knew this series was going to be good before I started it but I really hadn't expected it to be that good. I mean I can't remember the last time I had so much fun reading a book. I just love the way it's so lighthearted and so effing hilarious and as far as the plot goes it's light but that's what goes with it. It's great to have a break from heavy and mind twisting plots.

Usually any editing errors completely spoil the book for me because I am big on good editing and I did find one or two errors but I don't mind when it comes from independent authors. But overall I liked the writing. It was simple and light.

And anyone who chooses to read this will simply love Ivy, the MC of the book because it will be impossible not to. Really.
I don't know about others but for me it's rarely the case when I like the main character of the book so when I say I could marry her it means she is bloody awesome. She is just so.. I don't know.. cool.
She is the laziest person you could ever meet and will spend everyday eating and sleeping if she had a choice. And she is hilarious. The way she talks, her choice of swears, everything is just so funny. And who doesn't love a heroine with a badass mouth.

And this time Ivy is trapped in is whole television world with a badass cat who doesn't give two flying shits about anything except for his food, a lot of tension between her hot ex work partner and weird zombie like things on the lose. So much for spending her days sleeping off.

This book couldn't have been more entertaining and I recommend this series to everyone. Anyone and everyone. This has surpassed my expectations and is definitely my new favourite.
