With many people each year jumping on the veganuary bandwagon it can be a nightmare deciding which cookbooks are going to be helpful and which are not. What drew me to Broke Vegan is that the recipes are all simple, no fuss no muss and absolutely delicious. It's also crucial for a lot of people that most of the ingredients features throughout are those we will likely already have in our cupboards or refrigerators and there is not a tonne of obscure, difficult to source and expensive additives to the recipes that are almost always present in other cookbooks. The vibrant, full-colour photographs are the icing on the cake and complement the recipes perfectly showing exactly how your meal should turn out.

I must admit, I would never have pictured myself literally demolishing totally vegan meals but after major issues with my digestive health here I am and it's thanks in part to this book that I have been able to actually see a genuine future with vegan food. Contrary to myth vegan meals do not have to be bland, complex or unexciting. It's no-nonsense, straight to the point advice is accessible and indispensable for those on the first stage of their journey and looking for support in the form of someone who knows exactly what they are doing in the vegan food department. Saskia Sidey has penned an excellent book for everyday people with simple yet devourable dishes I simply can't get enough of. Highly recommended.

A good selection of recipes

I have many Vegan cookbooks already and I like how easy this book is to use. The introduction isn't too long and she provides a comprehensive list of store cupboard staples. I have bookmarked many recipes to try, including the earl grey lemon drizzle loaf, sticky sweet aubergines and cauliflower nuggets. Most recipes also have coloured photos, which I appreciate. There are too many fresh pasta recipes and sauces for my liking, but that's my only criticism.
