**THIS STORY ENDS IN A CLIFFHANGER***

Saying goodbye to their old life in the Wyr demesne in New York may be hard, but Dragos and Pia are determined to create a new life in the Other land of Rhyacia.

At first, everything seems idyllic. Rhyacia is paradisiacal. Accompanied by old friends and new allies, the future looks safe and bright for Dragos, Pia, and baby Niall.

But strange things are happening beneath the picturesque façade. Items move unaccompanied, buildings collapse without justifiable cause, and even the most Powerful residents of Rhyacia can provide no logical explanation for the events transpiring. Whispered rumors point to something called the unseen.

As Dragos and Pia investigate, they uncover a greater mystery than they could have imagined, and they realize the startling truth…

They’re not alone in Rhyacia. The land Dragos had thought was uninhabited hides many secrets, a shocking history that’s not quite ready to be buried, and something more.

Something ancient, evil, and hungry. Something that wants to consume Dragos and take everything he holds dear.

Something that just may be powerful enough to overcome the dragon…

I write paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and other stuff. I taught myself to read when I was four. That was around the time I tried to ride my tricycle to work. I wasn't sure where work was, but I knew it had to be interesting if people went there every day. Now I combine my love of books with work, and I don't have to ride my tricycle to get there. My Elder Races series began May, 2011. You can also find me on Twitter and Facebook!

There are characters that are unforgettable and when the author tells you that she's done with them and there won't be any further stories then they leave a vacuum behind. Pia and Dragos are pretty much my all time favorite PNR couple and I just can't get enough. So when Thea Harrison decided to document their move into the Otherworld Rhyacia it was like Christmas and Easter and birthday and every other holiday on the same day for me.

Pia and Dragos's relationship has come so far. Pia has really grown into her own. The tragedies and tough times she experiences have left a mark and a backbone of steel and iron will that wasn't as obvious before. She was never a doormat but now she's a sweet but feisty herbivore unicorn who stands up for herself.

Dragos is still mystified by women, even after years of marriage. I always get a kick out of seeing this ancient, most powerful dragon bamboozled by stuff Pia does or says. It's really a hoot. When this almost godlike creature very reluctantly adopts an ugly mutt the hilarity has no end. Seeing Dragos's fierce love for Pia is always a highlight - that's something the author does so well.
And there it was, that moment, with happiness dancing in her aquamarine gaze and the air around her effervescent with her Power—that moment was what the dragon would do anything and kill anyone for. That moment was what he lived for. That one, and then the one after that, and the one after that, all grouped together in his mind like luminous pearls on a string. Each one came to him new, a perpetual gift of joyful surprise, and as rich as he was, and as many jewels as he’d acquired, those moments were the sum total of the dragon’s true treasure.

Dragos and Pia's move to their new home doesn't go smoothly. Along for the ride are many familiar faces like Graydon and Beluviel, Tricks and Tiago, only to name a few. Seeing them again really makes me want to re-read the whole series.

The cliffhanger Thea leaves us with is brutal. I hope she writes fast like the wind because I can't wait to continue this story. I adored this journey back into the world of the Elder Races and I hope Thea Harrison keeps writing stories about this fascinating universe and the mythical creatures inhabiting it. This was a beautiful start to this serial.
For him, love was a collection of moments like this. Strung together like luminous pearls on a string

The Unseen is a novella in the Elder Races series by Thea Harrison. It’s full of humor, romance, surprises and all of your favorite Wyr characters.

Fans will enjoy return to the Elder Races series and one of the main couples Pia and Dragos. If you haven’t read the Elder Races series then you need to start at the beginning and read in order. This novella is not the place to start.

It was such a joy return to the Elder Race world. I love all the different kinds of Wyr’s and how vast the world building is. We are always treated to something new in each novel or novella.

It was fabulous seeing all the old characters from all the novels. They come together to wish Pia and Dragos good luck on their new adventure, but even with them leaving the Wyr demise and moving to the Other land of Rhyacia things don’t go as planned and the gang comes together to help. I loved seeing many of my favorite couples come back and having the author give us insight into where they are and what they are doing now. It was so fantastic to get answers to things I was thinking about and wondering.

The Cuelebre family are a joy to read about. It’s so great to see how much Pia has grown, to see Stinkpot and his adorableness, and to see how much Dragos love for his Mate.

I would love to tell you more, but I don’t want to ruin the surprises. I will point out that the author does note to her readers this novella ends on a cliffhanger. I have a love-hate relationship with cliffhangers, but I have to say this cliffhanger was in the perfect spot. It has left me wanting the next novella and I can’t wait until it comes out. Luckily I won't have to wait long, since the author will be releasing the next three novellas in quick succession.

Rated: 4 Stars

*Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy provided by Thea Harrison with the sole purpose of an honest review. All thoughts, comments and ratings are my own.

**UPDATE June 2021: This story ARC was originally supposed to be a 4 novella, but the author has since changed her mind since The Unseen was published. We will complete the overall ARC in 2 novellas. **

I've only read the first book in the series so far, and I enjoyed Pia and Drago's story. When I found out there was a novella coming out on this couple, I had to read it to see what they are up to.

I like that we are getting a next phase of their life. Pia has had a second baby who is the same as her Wyr form, and what I remember from her book, her Wyr is highly hunted. Since the baby is the same, I understand why they are moving to another land for his protection. What we learn in this first novella is that it may not be as safe as they thought it was.

This actually makes me want to go back and read book one again, and then finish the series. I loved how much Drago is protective of Pia. There was also some hilarity in this with their baby Niall and a dog. I found this pretty entertaining until the end where the danger comes in. This ends on a cliffhanger and I have no idea what just happened. I hope the second novella releases soon!

Five Stunning-Cliffhanger Stars! Another gripping novella about the Dragos Family new adventure! I had to confess that the cliffhanger totally freaked me out! Of course, I knew that it'd turn out fantastically for Dragos and family & everyone in Rhyacia. (Or maybe NOT for everyone!) But the wait for the next installment ➡️ The Adversary was torturing and ripping me bloody at the moment! The knowing that things would turn out great in the end was no comfort whatsoever!

Yet, the entire story, until the cliffhanger ripped my heart out, was everything I loved so much about the series.

Loved how much Dragos loved Pia. Loved that she was going to save him the way she did in Pia Saves the Day🔥 But what I loved the best had to be a glimpse of beyond word amazing Liam, when he walked/flew into Rhyacia to join the operation to save/rescue Dragos. Sharing one of my favorite scenes:

Dragos looked at Pia. "I'm not getting sex tonight, am I?"

She laughed harder. "At this rate, I'm not sure we're getting any sleep either."

When she turned to go to the nursery, Dragos caught her by the wrist. "Make yourself comfortable. I'll get him." . . .

A few moments later, she heard Dragos murmuring over the baby monitor, "Quit making such a fuss, Stinkpot. You'll get your titty juice in just a moment."
. . .

The brittle sound of something breaking . . . "Oh, for fuck's sake, Niall—it's just a dog. Cut it out. No, you can't stab it! Change back, goddammit!"

5 Dragon Loving Stars!!

Thea Harrison’s Elder Races has been a favorite for years particularly Dragos and Pia. This tasty little novella does not disappoint! Let’s face it, it’s always fun catching up with Dragos, Pia, Liam, Niall and of course the rest of the Elder Races.

In this novella they are packing up and ready to move to the Other land of Rhyacia to start their new life in a place where they can protect their baby, Niall. The trip goes smoothly, but after they arrive they find out that strange things have been happening…Objects disappearing and then reappearing in other places, a building that collapses every time they get it built to a certain point. As Dragos and Pia begin investigating they encounter something very strange and possibly deadly.……

* This is a quick read that ends with a cliffhanger, it’s the first in a series of 4 linked novellas, and each of the first 3 have cliffhanger endings as we were warned by Thea Harrison. I cannot wait for The Adversary, the second novella due out in Sept 2020!!

Oh my it was such a joy to return to this couple as they prepare to start their new life. Pia, Dragos and their adorable Stinkpot are leaving Earth and this novella charts the events that happen as they both prepare and indeed cross over. An ancient world and a new life awaits but more importantly there are still adventures to be had !
This couple are always such fun to read about and I love that here we see just how much Pia has grown into not just a caring female but also one who is canny and brave. Dragos might admit he doesn't understand his Mate but his love for her is made abundantly clear in so many ways in this book. I've no wish to ruin the surprises but will say it's a cliff hanger ending ( yes I was left devastated ) and luckily the author is keen to be able to offer her readers the next instalment as soon as possible. What I can say is you can expect lots of humour, romance, surprises and all of your favourite Wyr characters are back so prepare to be entertained even if like me you are left wanting more. I love this couple and indeed their family always grab and hold my attention, more please !
This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

4.5 Stars. I was so happy to go back to the Elder Races and specifically Dragos and Pia. They are moving to the Other land of Rhyacia along with a couple of our other favorite characters. There is plenty of wonderful romantic moments, some humor with Dragos and a dog, and of course some adventure. The fact that Pia's second born son is the same type of Wyr as her makes their decision completely understandable - as keeping him safe will be difficult. Unfortunately not all is at it seems at Rhyacia. The book is a quick read and I loved every minute of it. It does end on a cliffhanger and wow is it a doozy! I hope Thea Harrison writes fast because I desperately want to read the next book!

A copy of this book was provided to me by the author with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

A short, dammit, novella, 9.9 in The Elder Races paranormal romance series revolving around Pia and Dragos Cuelebre, as they move to an alternate plane of existence. With passport control. It's been two months since "Planet Dragos", 09.8.

My Take
Okay, I'm a bit snarky with that last bit. Dragos does have a station set up on both sides of the passage that goes from earth to his new land, Rhyacia, though.

Part of my snarkiness is that Harrison is presenting us with half a quarter of the frickin' story. I'm really hating this trend among authors. Write the damned story. Give us the whole thing. I don't know if authors/publishers reckon they can get more money out of us by selling two four stories (to make up the whole story), if they don't want to wait until the author finished writing the whole thing, they want to ensure reader interest by not making us wait, or a combination of all of the above, but it does tick me off.

Hmmm, Harrison does "promise" us three more "linked stories with all new Dragos and Pia adventures", all with these same cliffhangers until the very end. Annoying.

That and Harrison doesn't feel as attached to this story. No, my feeling this started at the beginning of the story and was not influenced by my ticked-offed-ness. And it certainly doesn't help...

I'm guessing the introduction of Skeeter is meant to be a humorous aside, although it feels forced more than anything.

The Unseen also appears to be an environmental platform for Harrison as she is keen on not bringing anything plastic to Rhyacia. Good thing that retirement "watch" is goldplated *giggle*.

I can relate to Pia's grief at leaving the home she created with Dragos, and she's realistic enough to know she'll create new memories in her new home. Lol, there's also the eternal mystique between man and woman, that even Dragos has a difficult time understanding. He does prove he gets her though with that custom-made gift, *more laughter*, as well as that truthful assessment he makes to her.
"...love was a collection of moments like this. Strung together like luminous pearls on a string."
What wouldn't parents give to have such a discipline tool *grin*!

Sounds like some foreshadowing when Harrison mentions the complications of Lord Azrael and what it could mean in the future.

The Story
They're moving. Giving up all that is earth, to keep Pia and Niall safe. It's not just the Cuelebres either, Vampyres, other Wyr and Nightkind, elves, witches, Demonkind, and Light and Dark Fae are also coming. Partly because Dragos is a power no matter what world he inhabits.

It's only been a few days, and there are factions and arguments already...

The Characters
Pia, who shifts into a unicorn, is married to Dragos Cuelebre, a.k.a., the Great Beast, a dragon shifter and one of the Elder Races. Niall "Stinkpot" is their new few-month-old baby who also shifts — with wild abandon! — into a unicorn, "the stabby little psychopath". Liam "Peanut" is their oldest son, another dragon shifter, and away at college ( Lord's Fall , 5). Eva, she shifts into a canine, is Pia's best friend, bodyguard, and Niall's nanny. Lord Azrael, the god of death, is Dragos' brother. Jocasta and Ramone are a Wyr couple who will staff the house.

The Wyr demesne is...
...based in New York City from which Dragos rules. Has ruled, as Lord of the Wyr for hundreds of years. Rune, a shapeshifting gryphon, had been his First Sentinel before he met and married Vampyre Queen Carling Severan, a very powerful sorceress, ( Serpent's Kiss , 3) and will act as regent for Liam. Sentinels who are staying behind include the reckless Aryal, the harpy investigator, and her mate, Pia's old boss, Quentin Caeravorn, a mixed-breed who is part Wyr (he shifts into a panther), part Elven, and part Dark Fae ( Kinked , 6); Grym, a gargoyle in charge of security; Bayne, a gryphon; and, Alexander, a pegasus.

Rhyacia is...
...an Other land in an alternate plane that Dragos discovered several hundred years ago. Graydon, a gryphon and Dragos' former First Sentinel has mated with Beluviel "Bel", an Elven lady and the Lady of the Wood just outside Charleston ( Shadow's End , 9). Giselle is their new baby girl. Linwe is one of her Elven attendants.

Malan Wei, a Jorogumo, is the station commander on the earth side. Paul was slated to be the city police captain. Only, he screwed up.

Friends include
Grace (she’s the Oracle) and Kahlil, a djinn ( Oracle's Moon , 4); Tiago, a thunderbird, is the not-so-secret lover to Niniane "Thistle Periwinkle", a.k.a., Tricks, the queen of the Dark Fae ( Storm's Heart , 2) ruling in Adriyel, another Other land.

The Elder Races are Elves, Vampyres, shapeshifters, and Djinn. There are seven Primal Powers in those Elder Races, and Dragos is one of them. Elizabeth Creedy had been one of Liam's elementary school teachers, who had rescued a dog, a cockapoo?, named Skeeter. Ancient Elven lore mentions seraph, possibly the origin of the angels mentioned in various world religions. Ys is another Other world mentioned. Urien had been Niniane's murderous uncle.

The Cover and Title
The cover shows the blonde Pia in dark skintight leggings and upper body armor, her body facing us, but her head in profile as she sights along her bow, a quiver of arrows on her back. She's standing in a pale gray-green-blue jagged landscape, a deep dark sky the outer frame for a pastel of pinks, oranges, and blues that form a haloed backdrop behind Pia. All the text is in white, starting with the title at the very top with series info tucked in at the upper right. The author's name is centered below Pia's knees with an info blurb beneath that.

The title is too true, for it's The Unseen, who dogs their land.

I'm ridiculously in love with the world of the Elder Races, so getting to dive back into a story that brings Pia and Dragos front and center again is FANTASTIC. Their romance (and their individual growth from the early books) has been a cornerstone of my infatuation with the Wyr (and all the Elder Races, actually) and I am over the moon we get to see the next step in their plans for the future.

FYI, I'm generally not a fan of cliffhangers, but I had no issues with where this piece of the story left off. (As the first part of a four-part arc, yes, this end on a cliffy. It worked, though. It worked nicely. Maybe because I knew this was only the first act, my expectation was that there would be plenty left unresolved. I don't know. For whatever reason, I wasn't bothered.)

Anyway. Pia and Dragos. And their gloriously stabby baby. And more than a few familiar faces. I do love those familiar faces. Starting their journey to settle Rhyacia is stressful in a lot of ways, but it ultimately looks to be the best course of action for them and a lot of the different Elder Races. Finding out that things might not be as they seem (and the eventual fallout from THAT) complicates things.

That said, if there's one thing Pia and Dragos are good at it's handling complicated issues. It's going to be a bumpy ride for them, sure, but I have every belief they'll figure things out. Eventually. Hopefully without too much collateral damage.

A touch of danger, a reunion of familiar faces, a wild new world to settle, and a relationship that can weather most anything. My heart eyes are strong and I am SO ready for part 2.

Veronica - per RFS
.
Buongiorno Fenici,

This review was originally posted on Books of My Heart

Review copy was received from Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the
content of my review.

I've loved this Elder Races series which started with Dragos and Pia. This novella is the start of a series of novellas with them as the main characters. Happily, we get many of the other characters from the series too.  Since The Unseen ends on a cliffhanger of sorts, I am concerned that the novellas could have all just been one book.  I'm not a fan of serials, especially if installments end abruptly.

I did really enjoy the story very much.  It's always a pleasure to revisit characters one knows and well loves.  Dragos and Pia are leaving Earth and starting a new phase of their lives.  Pia is sad to leave the home she has loved and been so comfortable, but they both agree it is what they want.  They are building a new community and some of their friends are joining them in this new world.

I can't tell you much more about the story without spoiling but let's be clear - things don't go quite as planned.  There are some mysterious happening which Dragos and Pia begin to investigate.  Pia seems particularly attuned to the problem.  It's worrying but nothing too egregious has happened, until it does.   The next story, which I hope is soon,  is The Adversary.

There are times it really helps if you read the precis... Autobuy/read authors get me sometimes!

Am I happy about the cliffhanger - not particularly. Am I excited for more - you bet I am!! I can wait for more, if we've learned anything over the last year is patience. (I still might not be good at it, but I'm better than I was before!)

Loved getting more of Pia and Dragos' story! And I am excited about the new world they are building. I know the author won't let me down in the end, but she sure left us hanging for now.

I listened to the audio of this, actually waited for it, and loved Sophie Eastlake's performance!

I'm really, really happy to be back in the Elder Races world, and I love Pia, Dragos and their family. They have now crossed over into the other world and this is the beginning of their adventures there.

Apparently, this mini-series is having four books, so I guess the four books together will make up a one story book. So this ends on a cliffhanger, and I'm really looking forward to the next installment. The author has said they will come out relatively fast, so not too long in waiting. To be honest I was so excited to see a new Pia/Dragos book I bought it right away, but if I'd known it wasn't a complete story in one book I might have waited for the next three installments and read it all together.

Not to worry, a new Pia and Dragos book, yippee!

With this book Dragos and Pia are facing a big change in their lives, moving to Rhyacia. Their last days in New York are interesting. Pia guilts Dragos into caring for a dog, which goes about how you think, but the best thing there is the dog adores Dragos, which makes for great fun!

When they arrive at Rhyacia things are and aren't what they thought. Pia learns that there is some crazy things going on, which quickly spins out of control. It lead to a couple of interesting scenes at the end and will make for interesting reading of the stories to come.

I’m not one to go for cliffhangers but this is Thea Harrison and it’s about Dragos so, even though I tried to resist, I ended up capitulating.

Now, I adore Dragos and Pia. Always have. I loved catching up with some of my favorite characters and seeing how Pia and Dragos were doing. Little Niall was adorable and giving his parents a run for their money. And Dragos interacting with the newest surprise addition to the family was hilarious. But, even with all that, I felt like something was missing.

Maybe it’s the installment thing, I’m not sure. But the first part dragged for me as it cataloged the issues of uprooting their lives and moving. It just didn’t capture my attention like some of the other books have. Then suddenly everything went into a fast-paced frenzy right before we hit the cliffy, and what a doozy that was.

Although I did mostly enjoy the book, I think I’m going to wait until all the installments are out before I read the rest. This way, if parts drag a little, I know I’ll still be able to get to the important bits in one go instead of plodding through, only to have to stop just as it gets to the good part.

Even though The Unseen didn’t work as well for me as some of the other books featuring Pia and Dragos, I’m still a fan. I’ll just have to be a patient one while I wait for all the rest of the books to release before I dive back in.

Rating: 3.5 What a doozy of a cliffy Stars

Thea Harrison gives her fans more of what they want: Dragos and Pia.

The Unseen is the first novella of four of the Chronicles of Rhyacia. In this new story arc we will be taking some old friends with us and leaving others behind. Here Pia and Dragos are packing up and preparing to leave New York and Earth for that matter and moving to the Otherland of Rhyacia.

I have to give it to Pia. I took a cruise for a week once and packed as if I wouldn't see civilization again. She literally isn't going to see civilization as we know it again. How do you pack everything you think you might possibly need...ever, especially when mechanical things don't work in Otherlands? Poor Pia was standing there with her Target cosmetics when Dragos reminds her that they agreed to "no plastics" in their new land.  She standing there like "but...but...but..."

As much as she agreed that moving to the Otherland for her safety as well as baby Niall, there is a big part of her that doesn't want to leave the familiar, and while she is not forbidden to return, there is too much time slip between the otherland and Earth and in conjunction with the travel time, it isn't like you can just quickly run to Walmart if you realize you need something. Dragos has lived millennia and while he enjoys his tech toys, he has lived move of his life without the things we take for granted.  Pia is struggling with letting go.

Pia's sudden doubts cause a small rift between them, especially as she comes to realize after years with Dragos, there is still many things she really doesn't know about her mate but while she hesitates to leave the familiar, she, Dragos and Niall travel make it to Rhyacia.

But once there, Pia and Dragos get reports of weird happenings and collapsed buildings stalling the building of their new city. Pia isn't too concerned when her friend whispers of The Unseen. At least until she feels something brush up against her aura and begins to wonder if this otherland has it's own dimensional shift living just off from their otherland.   Pia isn't ready to pack up and go home just yet, but was giving up everything they had in New York and moving to Rhyacia a losing venture?

Thea has warned us over and over again that each of the first three stories will leave off on a cliffhanger and she certainly didn't lie as OMG! I can't believe I have to wait to see what happens.

I felt a little off with Dragos in this novella. I remember being surprised when I read Dragon Bound that I liked it so much even though Dragos was soooo domineering. Most times I try to remind myself that he was born when the Earth was created and has lived most of that time by himself, being powerful and telling everyone else what to do. Dragos, for the most part, suppresses those urges to make Pia do what he wants and tries to be a good mate and father. It is impressive but this in story I don't know if it was just Pia's sudden apprehension effecting how I feel or the few glimpses into Dragos where he struggles with understanding Pia and his own feelings that disturb me. We also have other characters showing up with their own personal issues which just adds more stress to our already stressful story.

I am not going to say that Dragos and Pia are having a marital crises in this story but we have seen some stresses in the couple starting with Planet Dragos, especially after Dragos's injury and memory loss in  Pia Saves the Day, but I think the strain of leaving Earth and moving to Rhyacia has put a strain between them, and that is all before things start going bad...very, very bad.

As a bit of comic relief to ease the tension, Dragos ends up with a dog that Pia isn't allowing him to dump onto someone else and everyone is quite entertained to see Dragos taking care of his rejected snack.

Kudos for Thea to leaving me gasping and desperate for the next book.

Woooooohoooooo!!!! The Cuelebres' are back! I am in love with Dragos!!! So freaking happy that Ms. Harrison thought to write more about this awesome family. Pia and Dragos are making a major change and are bringing some of the past crew with them. I have to tell you I am not sure how you do it, Ms. Harrison but you somehow always engage me in the moment. I always feels like I am right there as the story unfolds. The words that describe the nature of Pia and Dragos's relationship is astounding. I have never read a couple so much in love with each other that with every glance, touch, or word they both grow exponentially. Just absolutely phenomenal❤❤ I love them both so much!!! This story is fraught with tension as we dig deeper about what is going on in Rhyacia and the surprises that are in store. This story does end in a cliffhanger which Ms. Harrison has warned us all about and what a cliffy it is! Lol. Another great note is we get to meet up with past and present Elder Race members and I am beyond the moon happy about that! Now, I cannot wait for the next book! Please hurry...loved it with all my heart❤❤ 5 STUPENDOUS, AWESOME, DRAGON-ROARING STARS🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

A novella I loved? I don’t even recognise myself right now! This novella was about a couple I’ve read before and loved from TH’s Elder Races series so I loved visiting them again!

Pia is the last unicorn shifter in the world (except for her son) and her husband is not only a dragon shifter but head of the Elder Races. They have decided to start the next chapter in their lives to moving from New York to a magical other land. However, when they arrive not all is as it seems.

Because this was about a couple I’ve read before I didn’t have any issues with the pacing of their relationship (which I have all the time with novellas). This couple is established in their love and relationship which I loved reading about. There was a hint of mystery and intrigue and it ended with a whopper of a cliffhanger which I did know going in and has me on the edge of my seat for the next instalment! If you ever read Pia and Dragos’ story in her Elder Races series I highly recommend revisiting their characters in their next chapter of life!

This was a lot of fun, but too short really to get into the setup. I felt like I was only just enjoying the mystery of 'the unseen' when they get revealed on the next page!

But otherwise, it's a well crafted novella that along with it's sister book, add up to a longer novella.
There is a cliffhanger but it also gives hope so it wasn't too stressful.
The author mentions 4 Rhyacia books, but there are only 2 and they have a definite end/HEA. Maybe the other 2 will come later?

Pia and Dragos are moving to the vast otherland that Dragos found centuries ago. Rhyacia appears to be a pristine Eden and the perfect place to create a Utopia for the other races who are happy to follow Dragos. Old friends are coming with and some are staying behind. There will be no plastic and of course no carbon burning machines.

But this pristine Eden is not as empty as they had thought and all is not perfect.

It's a fun quick read/listen. The usual audio reader, Sophie Eastlake, reads as well as ever.
Safety is fine.

This is the first in a four part story, all ending in cliffhangers.

Great read will continue series.

I am so very disappointed.
Maybe the initial decision to leave Pia and Dragos alone was good. Maybe I am in a bad mood.
What I can say: I really didn't enjoy this novella.

First: Pia and Dragos leave their older son alone. He might look grown up, but he is only a few years old. Nope, nopety, nope.

Second: Suddenly it is a huge effort to go back and forth between Other lands and real world. That doesn't fit with prior stories. The pages and pages about household issues and the move are beyond boring and left me clueless as to why anyone would include this in a short novella.

Third: Dragos is condescending. Pia has become a caricature of herself - the interactions between them are uniteresting and do not shape any story. What was interesting in the beginning of their love story (their differences, Dragos' lack of communication skills and emotional competence etc., his immense age and power and this young, modern, sensitive woman, he madly falls for) feels forced and chewed up.

Fourth: The stupid dog story. WTF. This is such a blatantly unrealistic twist - this socially competent, popular teacher who previously owned the dog, didn't know ONE person who knew that she had a dog and cared, after she died in a car accident. REALLY? No friends, no family, no neighbours, NO ONE??? And how Pia suddenly becomes Mrs Peta and feels that Dragos needs to adpot a dog that he doesn't want, and their love is so special that he just complies with her stupid wishes just to indulge her??? What kind of stupid dynamic is that? I assume the dog is supposed to be comedic and also to give Dragos some sweetness "oh cute, look the mighty dragon with the ugly little doggie"

Fivth: This shit around Niniane and her flight from her life with leaving her mate and lifepartner behind, who gave up everything to be with her. He can catch up with me after he cleaned up my mess - really??? And all this unresolved issues with her court - boring! And the pregnancy thing, wow, way to found a family by being drunk and sloppy! The best way! Pregnancy is so much fun on top of a ton of unresolved problems!!
And for the record I never liked Aryal, that is a shitty character that I don't want to meet in books anymore.
And all this stupid plotting just to make Tiago and Niniane go with Pia and Dragos to Otherland because no one else could protect their child...

I skimmed the second half of the book. It was boring and I lost any interest in the characters.

I am so disappointed.
This world had so much potential. But this seems like "make some money with a 4-part-storyline that wouldn't be good enough for a novel anyway so why not make fans pay for 4 novellas"...

I think I am out of Elder Races for good.

Gah! A cliffy ending!

My thoughts: I love seeing all our old friends again. I love how grouchy Dragos is, yet still gives his treasure to Pia. I love Skeeter! I love Skeeter and Dragos! Yeah, this ended on a cliffhanger, but it definitely set me up to be anxious for the next installment, which she promises comes soon. 4 stars
