Love is just around the corner for Nozaki and the gang—or so it seems...
The appearance of a young maiden from a private school stuns the Nozaki squad with some rather perplexing beliefs about...love? While the new girl is befriending Nozaki, Chiyo is playing the field with other attractive men-who aren't Nozaki! Meanwhile, the elder Seo tries again to win a date with his longtime crush, Yukari-'tis the season, after all. And love might be in the air for one Seo sibling, but how will the other fare when Lorelai's biggest fan, Wakamatsu, at long last learns Yuzuki's true identity?!
She is a Japanese manga artist known for creating The Magic Touch and Oresama Teacher which have both been serialized on the Hana to Yume magazine. Tsubaki began drawing manga in her first year of high school. She was soon selected to be in the top 10 of Hana to Yume Mangaka Course, and subsequently won the Big Challenge contest.
Another solid instalment. It can’t match how amazing it was at the start, but, honestly, I love this series so much. It’s like comfort food and even a less than perfect entry is still a great read.
There are some great chapters in this one - we get yet another variant of dating sim that plays out about how you’d expect (Chiyo’s frustrations at how they work is capped off with a great scene of her handling Nozaki). Another new character also gets introduced, Kashima’s overly innocent (only... not...) sister, and she’s a great addition to the cast - her ideas on how romances work would raise the age rating on the series on their own.
However, Seo and Wakamatsu have the best chapter, as Seo finally confesses (only... not...) to Wakamatsu about being the singer he’s infatuated with. It goes about as well as you’d expect, plus a doghouse, but I got a huge laugh out of Nozaki’s imagined manga version of this confession, which starts off like a trope and then goes horribly awry based on the characters in question.
Even the hypnosis chapters, something that usually make my eyes roll, are pretty amusing just because of how ludicrous they are. Solid entry in a series that knows its characters and how to use them to great effect.
Such a great, fun comic. Things move as slowly as ever, but I love how unabashedly thirsty Sakura is becoming. It's weirdly refreshing in a shojo manga heroine.
the only two character's that im not the biggest fan of in this series is maeno-san and kashima's younger sister. but tbh its a non-issue cause they still create hilarious scenarios with the other characters
and poor seo her relentless teasing of waka finally bit her in the ass but it still real funny LOL cant wait to see how waka will react when he finally realizes that seo is lorelei
Continues to be the dang funniest 4-koma out there. I'm always amazed at how well drawn and real the characters feel while still being wacky and hilarious.
Re-Read: July 2021 Less funny than last time, but I really liked the last chapter which bodes well for the next volume.
Re-Read: January 2021 I still really liked this! Kashima's sister kind of freaks me out though, ngl. Waka and Seo's chapters were my favorite. I'm really excited to see what happens in the next volume!
Original Review I really enjoyed this volume! The first few stories were't my favorite (though I still really liked them!) but I was laughing the entire second half. For the past few volumes I've been a bit frustrated that the plot never really moves forward, but I'm kind of accepting that that's just the type of manga this is and enjoying the ride. There was some slight advancement with some of the couples, but I think the series might lose a bit of its humor if they get together, so I'm fine with the stalemate that we're currently in.
This series is so funny and I really need to re-read it from start to finish since there aren't any more volumes currently avaliable.
I'm very sad this is the last (available) volume :( But I had so much fun!!!!! Especially in the chapter with Chiyo and Mikoshiba in Nozaki's place, there are some panels that I will never forget. I didn't enjoy much the whole hypnosis thing but because we had so much Mikoshiba's content it was easy to let it go! I hope I can read volume 12 soon :')
Bezsprzecznie prym w całym komiksie wiedzie para Seo i Wakamatsu.
Wakamatsu… truly, what did you hope to accomplish with the bunny ears?
Chapter 101 was truly a rollercoaster. From risqué to innocent to just plain dumbassery. Amazing, showstopping, etc.
It’s nice to see Seo be the victim of miscommunication for once.
I have a lot of sympathy for Ryousuke…
Nozaki had such pure intentions getting Mikoshiba a game called Hot Men Syndrome. I’m sitting in a tire repair center trying not to burst out laughing. This is my peak humor.
Chiyo and Otome games is a dangerous mix. Every previous Otome chapter was building to this moment.
Wakamatsu being so pure that he can hypnotize himself… 🥲 But seriously, the last few chapters have included the misconception that Seo has a new dog. And then Wakamatsu inadvertently hypnotized himself to act like a dog. Tsubaki, where is this going…? 👀
As expected, hypnosis as a theme is quite problematic. I didn’t like those chapters very much. Sad that the Hori/Kashima development had to be under such a morally sketchy precedent.
Okay, Chapter 108 fully makes up for the problematic hypnosis chapters. Chiyo and Nozaki peak comedy duo. Please never do a fansign, Nozaki.
Yes, another classic misunderstanding chapter! Miyako bi icon??? And we’re certainly learning a lot about Mikoshiba’s interests… 👀
Fun volume. Kashima’s little sister shows up and turns out to be a huge fan of Nozaki’s manga. She’s not even fazed by the fact that the author isn’t a high school girl after all, like the manga claims. But she turns out to have odd notions of boys and girls, as she goes to a girls’ school.
Nozaki being a boy causes him some trouble though, when he wants to arrange a signing session. Ken is against it for many reasons, but Nozaki’s adamant to try all sort of ruses, one of which is to make Sakura sign for him, as she looks like the image he presents in the manga. Nothing works though, but Sakura is happy.
In a side story, Seo’s college going big brother has a chance to tell about his feelings to Yukari, the mangaka who hides her job from her college friends. But she’s completely oblivious, so much so that she makes a game of it. She cannot understand a confession that doesn’t follow the conventions of girls’ romantic manga.
Finally, Nozaki tries his hand at hypnosis for a manga plot. Unfortunately, he accidentally hypnotises Kashima to completely forget Hori, much to his annoyance. Or is he, when she suddenly shows up at every practise—on time.
Waka and Seo, Hori-senpai with Kashima, my god. Can they start dating already?! I mean, Seo finally confessed to Waka that she’s Lorelei but he didn’t believe her and instead, he built a dog house, lol. The same goes for Hori, who’s been praising Kashima without knowing and he just loves her the way she is.
Nozaki’s pal, you know, that mangaka who goes to college, is hilarious! Along with Seo’s brother, they just make the dumbest couple –I mean it in a good way.
Sakura and Nozaki had their moments too and I can’t stop laughing whenever she has her own way with Nozaki being oblivious of her liking him, lol.
Mikorin being on full otaku mode, but now with otome games was hilarious too.
Alrighty, I am all caught up now with the volumes I own so I will be writing a longer review for the entire series.
"Monthly Girl's Nozaki-kun" is a delightful and comedic shojo manga. Not only is the romance in this story filled with tropes, but it is done so in such a way you can't help but at least crack a smile. I also loved that while reading this series I learned a bit along the way about the processes of creating manga. It was interesting to read subplots with the editors and when other mangakas were involved in the story. I still wish Chiyo would get a move on and just tell Nozaki how she feels but eh, it keeps the plot going and the comedy aspect alive. So if you are looking for a manga series that is light hearted and will make you laugh, I will suggest this one for you. :)
How good is to read Nozaki-kun once in a while! I hope the mangaka has no plans to finish this.
This volume has:
- Seo telling (or trying to) tell Waka that she is Lorelei (poor Waka, Seo loves to play with him, she is just not aware). - Kashima losing her memories... Hori-sempai is ok with it (her acting as a butler XD or being shy XD my favorite couple!) - Mikorin and Sakura playing an otome-game (Mikorin is just so funny!) - Nozaki-kun wanting to do a fansign event (Mikorin playing as the sensei... his reactions XD)
Romantic comedies go through loops - and this is no exception. If your this far - your probably good to go for the loops - I'm just hoping and praying for some sort of resolution.
My guess is Nozaki and Sakura - defying the odds - perhaps Sakura not even knowing it. Seems more natural than the rest of the cast getting through to Nozaki.
