Herman Parish (born 1953) is the author of Amelia Bedelia children's book series, nephew of original author, Peggy Parish. Having grown up with his aunt’s tales of Amelia’s humorous misadventures, Herman decided to carry on the legacy after his aunt’s death in 1988. He did not wish to entrust the future of the series into the hands of a children’s author outside of the family. Since Peggy had the summers off from teaching, she was able to stay with the Parish family for extended periods of time, allowing Herman and Peggy to develop a close relationship. More importantly, this gave Herman a chance to keenly observe Peggy during her writing processes, gaining great insight to the road ahead of him. To carry on the essence of the series, Herman thoroughly examined his aunt’s work and did his best to capture what exactly made the character of Amelia Bedelia such a hit. Having editor Susan Hirschman and illustrator Lynn Sweat in common with his aunt helped to make the transition. He has added thirteen more books to the series. Herman is a resident of Princeton, New Jersey, and travels to libraries and schools across the United States, speaking and inspiring young children. The importance of revising and editing is often stressed during these dynamic lectures. He has presented to students in more than 22 states.

So unfortunately I was gonna read this to my baby... well, okay, some people say things like “that’s not a baby, that’s a dog” (which is true, babies aren’t this cute and precious) but that’s beside the point, the ba... I mean dog didn’t want to listen to me read to her tonight or even look at the pictures (which apparently were scribbled on a bit by 5 or so year old me) so she didn’t get to experience this wonderful book!

What’s it about?
Amelia Bedelia (who takes things way too literally) is meant to help with a music class before their concert and things get pretty crazy and amusing.

Why it gets 5 stars:
The story is actually surprisingly interesting.
The illustrations fortunately weren’t scribbled on too much (as in just barely scribbled on) so I was able to see them all and they’re very good illustrations.
This book is sofa king funny! I was laughing out loud during the entire book.
The characters are very amusing and mix together extremely well.
This is not predictable like many picture books, you never know what kind of hilarious things Amelia is going to do next!

Overall:
This book’s great. I don’t give a s*** what age group it’s geared towards, this is fantastic and highly recommended, even if a little puppy didn’t want me to read it to her.

5/5

In her latest hilarious adventure, Amelia has gotten things all mixed up when Mrs. Rogers send her to the station to pick up the conductor for the school concert and Amelia shocks her with the train conductor! Another great read aloud for students that contains simple language and is a great option for students to read aloud to their peers or to an adult.

This is another enjoyable Amelia Bedelia story, with Amelia Bedelia causing lots of mischief at a school band concert.

Some of the newer Amelia Bedelia stories are not enjoyable to me, and don't fit with the original Peggy Parish stories of years ago. This one, by Herman Parish though, is very true to form of the original Amelia Bedelia books.

Hey there! So, I read this super funny book called "Bravo, Amelia Bedelia." It's all about Amelia Bedelia going to pick up a musical conductor named Mrs. Rogers. But guess what? She brings back a train conductor instead! The disasters start happening everywhere after that.

The musical conductor wants the band to practice some numbers. But Amelia Bedelia thinks it's about the alphabet! She's like, "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8…" Haha, she's a bit mixed up. And then a bird comes in, and she says it's a BC, but it's actually an ABC!

She tries to play the fiddle, but she puts it in her ear by mistake. Ouch! Then, she thinks she needs bows and ribbons for her hair when the conductor talks about a bow for the fiddle.

At the end, everyone wants to join the musical band because of all the funny things Amelia Bedelia does. And you know what? The concert turns out really cool. Even though Amelia Bedelia is not so great at music, she plays it by having fun!

I learned that with Amelia Bedelia, anything can happen, and she's nice but sends thank you notes, not music notes. Haha, she's one-of-a-kind!

This book is amazing, and I can't wait for you to see my full review on my YouTube channel.

This book is a part of a series called Amelia Bedelia. This particular book is about her picking up a conductor for a musical, but instead picked up the train conductor. After the real conductor shows up, she is constantly interrupting the musical with multiple distractions. She is trying to help out and it doesn't seem to be going her way. I chose this book because I remember this series being popular as a kid, i just never read it for some reason. I wanted to give this series a chance. The genre is comedy. It is for 3rd grade. I would use this in the class to show students that people make mistakes and have bad days, but there can always be a bright side to everything. It is a book with practical knowledge vs. informational.

That Amelia Bedelia has a real flair for mixing things up. Goodreaders, prepare to be shocked, shocked.

A plus, with this Amelia character, is how jokes and plays on words that may strike adults as corny-verging- on-cringy.... These can seem hilarous to kids of picture book age.

In this story, the big joke involves the difference between:

* A conductor for the school concert
* And a train conductor

All this mixup is supposed to be absolutely hilarious. Maybe best appreciated if you're about three years old....

But author Herman Parish sure knows his readers.

FIVE STARS for him and his picture book.

I appreciated the jokes within this story. The Amelia books always come across as so cleverly cheesy to me. They make me happy.

This is another classic story in the Amelia Bedelia series of books by Herman Parish, who continued the series in honor of his aunt, Peggy Parish, who created it. The story is fun and the illustrations are hilarious. This story helps to explain about conductors and orchestra musicians. Our girls really enjoy these books!

That Amelia Bedelia is sooo outa tune! In music class she has to impress a visiting musical conductor, who is easily flustered by the literally minded (overmuch!) Amelia! She gets string sections (from actual ropes!), locates wind instruments (electric fans, naturally!) and brings the curtain down! Weeellll, that did NOT happen but you get the picture! (Oh: the "fans are applauding"--insert proper LOL here--for a bravissimo performance! Prairie Home Companion would--actually, BAD idea!)

This is an excellent book to share as a read-aloud across all elementary grade levels. I would use the book to introduce grade 2 students to chapter books. I would also use it to teach reading comprehension skills, because it is a high-interest story. The book can be used to engage first graers in a science lesson about sound, too.

Amelia has done it again! She is sent for the music conductor, and she shows up to the concert with a train conductor. She ends up rocking the music for the show in place of that missing conductor. This book could be used in a music class or even in a regular class about music and the different members of a concert.

I read these books when I was a child, and still have memories of the stupid tales that make me smile. These books are great if you have a child in the family--even more so if you are a child at heart.

I would recommend Amelia Bedelia so any child. It is so funny and I love how it pokes fun at the English language. I am always amazed that Amelia Bedelia is still hired after all the trouble she causes :)

This book was disappointing to me because it is not how I remember Amelia Bedelia and really wouldn't want to use this book in my classroom after all. This is because I feel like it belittles women and the conductor is not nice and does not explain anything to her.

a hilarious story of miss understandings
a great series of mixed up directions and literal meanings, this is a great silly series to show children that mistakes and mix ups are possible if not probable, and that innocence may be more of the reason then meaning to do something wrong/

Full disclosure: I was coaxed into reading this. Perhaps it helps children read, but would it make them want to? Slapstick funny, all smiles, and lots of misunderstanding, but so what?
