Teenager Usagi is not the best athlete, she's never gotten good grades, and, well, she's a bit of a crybaby. But when she meets a talking cat, she begins a journey that will teach her she has a well of great strength just beneath the surface and the heart to inspire and stand up for her friends as Sailor Moon! Experience the Sailor Moon manga as never before in these extra-long editions (about 300 pages each).

This was a bit of a random one. The dentist standalone story was so odd but funny in its ridiculousness. The whole book just felt different from previous ones. Disappointing fat phobia and some fart jokes that didn't fit with the rest of the series. At this point I feel like I just need to push on and finish the remaining books in the series, but I'm not enjoying them as much as I had hoped.
Chibi Moon gets her own love intrest in this one, and fully gets away from any intrest in Mamo Chan- about time. The art gets beter with each volume, and the plot ramps up while still giving time to the day to day lives of the girls. I am excited to start the next one and see what happens with the outer guardians being back, and also when the four new scouts will reawaken!
"Wherever there is light, there is darkness. Darkness calls to the light and light, in turn, calls to the darkness."
Eh..it was okay.. Atleast Chibi-Usa's got her own love interest now!
Is it just me or do the drawings look a bit rushed? There are so many characters at this point, that it's hard to figure out who is who. Also very confusing to know when a dream starts and ends.
After that amazing Sailor Saturn arc, I feared the rest of Sailor Moon wouldn't be able to beat it, and I was right. The plot was just Snow White??
5 stars for Eternal Sailor Moon! I love this volume! It has a ton of extras and Chibi-Usa finally found someone to fall for that isn't her father. Now on to #9!
I was thinking that this book felt a bit shorter than the others... It may be because I read it too fast or it was just me I wanted to finish it before Thanksgiving Break and I did!! I really enjoyed this book with all the characters and the new ETERNAL SAILOR MOON is stunning like always but I do like her Super Sailor Moon costume a bit more than the Eternal Version!! Otherwise stunning pictures and everything was great!!
yes, tell me again how fluffy fluff SM is. I did get a kick out of the dentist visit chapter, which is still as darkly hilarious reading it again - but don't ever read it before actually going to the dentist IRL. just no.
As always, this was cute and fun. I love the plot line. However, those fillers are annoying, but reminds the readers how young these girls are and that they are more than just guardians of the planet.
I don't like the character designs for the four villain henchmen, and I feel like their reveals after Zerconia is defeated were weak. I love Helios and the Eternal sailor transform artwork! The short stories at the end were cute, and the translation notes are always very insightful.
I feel like the dream arc is so close to the dark Kingdom arc: We have a long haired witch queen from the past coming back for the Earth who brainwashes one of the heroes 4 guardians so they act as the villain’s generals, and maybe also this baddie wants to smooch Mamoru? (Although here it truly feels like a throwaway line).
I love that Nehellenia looks like a evil version of Luna. I like the way she plays the evil fairy and to some degree, the questions she brings to the lore. I love seeing Chibi-USA be a real character and have a better love interest this go around. And while the story is always corny, idk, maybe there’s something to the star in your heart bit. Still cheesy, but I mean, it’s Sailor Moon.
That said I do think this is maybe the most nonsensical ending yet, where there isn’t a lot that I could easily point to if you wanted me to explain what happened or why. Helios prays a lot and Usagi and Mamoru keep making out and then everyone is wearing pretty dresses and then they aren’t and then we win.
Love the little bit with Usagi’s dream though.
Also, I really enjoy the little character vignettes at the end. I do really hate how “oh you’ll get fat” is a constant punchline in these. But otherwise they have this glorious manic energy and damn I love goofy side stories that let us get to know the characters better.
I also appreciate that we’re starting to see Venus/Mars sorta start to be a thing. It really reminds me of Marceline/Bubblegum at the beginning of Adventure Time. Onto the last arc and for everyone to die...
The Sailor Moon Eternal Edition is a tribute to Naoko Takeuchi's iconic series and an absolute must-have for fans—whether those who grew up with the series or newcomers discovering the magic of the Sailor Guardians for the first time.
Price: Approximately €30 per volume
Design and Quality One of the first things that stands out is the stunning design of the Eternal Edition. With its large-format, high-quality hardcover volumes and shimmering accents on the cover, it exudes elegance and timelessness. The pages are printed on thick, glossy paper, which beautifully highlights the intricate illustrations and delicate lines of Takeuchi's art. The color illustrations, which were hard to find in the original manga release, are included here, significantly enhancing the visual experience.
Content The story of Sailor Moon remains untouched in this edition, recounting the tale of Usagi Tsukino, an ordinary schoolgirl who learns that she is the reincarnation of the Moon Princess. As Sailor Moon, she must fight against dark forces. Supported by her companions—the other Sailor Guardians—and her "protector," Tuxedo Mask, she embarks on adventures filled with magic, friendship, and self-discovery.
What makes this edition special is its restored and revised translation. It stays closer to the Japanese original, lending greater authenticity to the dialogue while preserving key terms and names such as "Silver Millennium" and "Princess Serenity" in their original form. This attention to detail will delight long-time fans and provide new readers with an unfiltered experience.
Value for Fans and Collectors The Eternal Edition is not just a manga but a collector’s item. For long-time fans who grew up with Sailor Moon, it offers a perfect way to relive nostalgic memories. For collectors, it’s a beautiful addition to any bookshelf, distinguished by its quality and design.
Conclusion The Sailor Moon Eternal Edition is a fantastic re-release of a classic that has captivated generations for decades. Whether you're a long-time fan or just stepping into the world of Sailor Moon, this edition deserves a permanent spot in your collection. That said, I noticed some aspects of the manga that were newly illuminated for me, while others were omitted or not treated as they were in the series. I repeatedly noticed differences between the two.
Additionally, I found it interesting that although Sailor Moon was a pioneer for the LGBTQIA+ community, some statements in the manga seem odd—such as the scene where Bunny remarks to herself that girls shouldn’t love each other. I wonder if this was altered later on...
I've still got complicated feelings about the Sailor Moon manga, as I go back and forth between
1) appreciating their iconic originality, as they appeared during a time where manga was more for boys and their masculine heroes;
2) frustration at the way these characters, at the same time, seem to me so vapid and two-dimensional (don't even get me started on how everyone in the 'regular' world is basically a cardboard cutout); and
3) not wanting to commit to judging any of it because there are SO many baked-in references (in reading these newer editions which include the very helpful cultural notes) to Japanese storytelling and symbols that I have to just take a deep breath and accept that I am the foreign audience. There's only so much of the material that I can really process as an average reader looking for a fluffy plot. This is fluffy, but nearly every page I find myself running into the characters, or the villains, saying something that sounds absurdly off-the-wall but seems also very specific.
SO: with this in mind... and having read the other books thus far... I felt like the battle scenes in this volume took LONGER than usual.
Once that was done, the main arc of the book abruptly completed, and then it was time for several small, extremely silly stories basically featuring the characters battling their own weaknesses, as highlighted by (of course there have to be) land spirits with bad attitudes?? like, why?? Can't Mercury and Venus and Jupiter deal with personal crap without it having to involve some spooky decked-in-camp creature that's externally wreaking havoc? I think I ran into this in an earlier volume too: what first appeared to be a somewhat introspective, atmospheric story about Sailor Jupiter and her issues surrounding former heartbreak then becomes, again, a shrill "defeat the enemy!" storyline! This! is! Getting! Old!
Anyway... I keep reading these... so it's like, at this point, it's on me if I don't like it... yeah.
The Dead Moon Circus ends in this volume. The ending of the arc was a little confusing and whatnot, with all the crystals. If everyone has a crystal, it makes the Silver Crystal not seem as special? But maybe it’s the most powerful? Anyway, I loved how all the guardians were back together to fight this battle, Usagi puts to rest Mamo Chan’s feelings about holding her back, and Chibi is indeed the maiden for Helios! And can’t forget the first appearance of ETERNAL SAILOR MOON!!! All around gorgeous with beautiful angel wings!!! Very sweet ending, almost seemed like it could’ve been the end of the series entirely.
The short stories at the end of this Eternal volume, were so hilarious!!! I love seeing the comical side of the girls. It makes me remember that they are only 15 years old! Some think that these stories feel out of place but honestly, I feel like they are nice break from the dramatic storylines. Just enjoy them for what they are!
Also, I love how these newer translations have changed the name of the manga that Mina gives back to Usagi (in the 3rd short story), to H x H or Hunter x Hunter, the name of one of Naoko Takeuchi’s husband’s manga series!!! Cute little Easter egg!!!!
As far as the main story goes, this is a great addition. Perhaps even my favorite so far. Unfortunately, it ends with several vignettes that are... I mean, I was going to say they're "fine," but you know what, actually they're not. There's just a weird tonal dissonance between moving from the end of an arc, with several tragic magical people swearing their loyalty to their future princess, and Sailor Saturn (the Silencer, Destroyer of Worlds) promising the little mini guardians that they'll take care Chibiusa until it's time for the mini guardians to wake up, and then... fat jokes and fart jokes. It just... doesn't... work...
I don't know if it's just nostalgia, but I loved this. Nevermind that I went in cold, jumping to this after only reading vol 1, it was still a lot of fun. Sailor Moon is just one of those things that will always make me smile, so maybe I'm biased.
I appreciated how this volume nicely balances itself. After concluding a dramatic storyline, we get a series of fun short stories mostly about the girls studying for exams. Although the page count for the former outnumbers the latter, it still feel like you get a lot out of the backend without it feeling tacked on.
The pegasus thing continues to be ridiculous and the "golden crystal" is clearly a desperate plea to make Mamoru relevant to the story line. BUT. The Amazoness Quartet and their backstory is pretty cool (and they are so much cooler than Sailor Chibi Moon) and the bonus stories that are included in this volume really save it, as does the inclusion of the Outer Senshi. In fact, the bonus stories were so delightful I'm bumping this rating up significantly from vol. 7, which covered the first half of this story arc.
I think that the conclusion of this arc wasn't too bad. I liked all the new information about their past lives, but I kind of wish that some of this information could have been foreshadowed earlier in the story. The way that it was all just suddenly introduced made it feel like everything was made up on the spot, which was probably the case. Even so, I still enjoyed this volume. I especially enjoyed the short stories because they were really fun and gave some of the lesser characters more attention
This volume of Sailor Moon Eternal Edition finishes up the Dead Moon Arc or SuperS part of the story. This is also the first appearance of the scouts in their eternal forms.
Mamoru unlocks his Golden Crystal & Usagi & Chibi-Usa's Silver Crystal's transform. Usagi's becomes a beautiful flower & Chibi-Usa's becomes the Pink Moon Crystal (in a flower shape).
This is a great lead up to the final two volumes due to come out later this year.
So much fun to Re-read the Dream Arc of Sailor Moon again via the new English translation / edition and love the artwork too!! This is my most favorite arc of the series next to Stars, I love the funny short stories too, fun to re-read as well! definitely recommend reading including if you are going to watch the Sailor Moon Eternal Movies which are available to stream on Netflix worldwide now, as both films follow the dream arc of the manga, very closely too! : )
