Ser Jammy Lannister is a Knight of Westeros, a long-standing member of the Kingsguard, and one of the finest bakers in the Seven Kingdoms.
Having lost his hand in a tragic accident involving spun sugar, he went on to become the greatest eggbeater this side of the Narrow Sea.
He currently lives in King’s Landing with his sister.

I have zero shame in buying this cookbook even if it is thee most random book on my shelf. I'm not much of a cook myself but I do love Game of Thrones.

I actually sat down and read carefully through every recipe as if I was reading a regular book. I would high recommend that you do just because there are little puns and references and jokes everywhere.

Although I highly doubt I'll make many of these recipes just because I don't eat much fruit and I'm technically sugar-free but I'm open.

I tried Hot Pie's wolf bread and it was successful even if it was one hella fat wolf and my dad messed it up. Everyone loved it and I was proud of it. It even got regramed on Instagram by the author Jammy Lannister.

If you like Game of Thrones check this out.

A few of you, certainly those who know me in real life, may already know that my husband runs the book review site, The Eloquent Page. This book came to my attention through his fiction contacts, not mine.

I think there must be few people now that have not heard of Game of Thrones. Even those not familiar with the TV show or books will find it obvious that this book is a parody in a cookbook of the epic fantasy series from G. R. R. Martin.

There is not much to say about the author, Jammy Lannister, other than his name is oddly familiar but I suspect it is not their real name. I understand he is a Knight of Westeros, a long-standing member of the King’s guard, and one of the finest bakers in the Seven Kingdoms.

The recipes are all sweet, with no discernible categories. The names of the recipes are homages to characters and places within the books/TV shows – Bran Muffins which features a decoration reminiscent of Bran aback of Hodor; Littlefinger Cake decorated with sponge fingers; and Brienne of Tart, a custardy tart within a ring of chocolate sticks.

The 21 recipes range in skill level, each recipe featuring a difficulty indicator. The recipes seem easy enough to follow, with fairly clear instructions. However, the ingredients list and directions are on separate pages due to the compact size of the book, which means you have to constantly flick between two pages – messy and inconvenient when your hands are covered in flour, jam or chocolate.

There are plenty of pictures in this book including in progress photos as well as the finished article. The attention to detail to maintain the fantastical atmosphere should be applauded. Great graphics make the pages look like crumpled notes, or blood-spattered tapestry. During the in-progress photos, any hand in the shot is either in a mail gauntlet or velvet glove.

My favourite recipe, and clearly the show stopper of the book, is the Red (velvet) Wedding Cake. I also have a particular fondness for the Tyrion’s Shortbread, The Iron Scone, and the impressive Daenerys’ Dragon Eggs.

This is a fun concept, but underneath all the puns and Game of Thrones references, there are some genuinely tasty recipes here. If you are a Game of Thrones fan, you will love this book. If not, it would make a great Christmas gift for the fan in your life.

As this contains only dessert recipes, I hope that there will be a sequel with savoury recipes in it. They could call it Game of Scones: Dinner is Coming.

This was the funniest cookbook I've ever read. That may not sound like a compliment (since I think I only listed 2 cookbooks in my Goodreads book list) but it is a compliment. Really. Not only is is funny but also drop-dead gorgeous. The most impressive (I think) is the Red (Velvet) Wedding Cake:



This book is how one fan whiles away the years between George R. R. Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice books: MAKE DESSERTS. Lots of them. With food dye and glycerin to give the blood a bloodier effect. Genius!

The desserts in here look too beautiful (or flat-out gross) to eat, but there must be some Game of Thrones fan out there handy in the kitchen who could make these. Not me, that's for sure. As soon as I see egg whites needed and not eggs, I'm lost.

Oh wait -- that's another series, isn't it? I'm not getting the cookbook for Lost, that's for sure.

2.5 rounded up. Nothing I saw in the description said this was a cookbook. It was shelved with the parody books in the humor section. =/ I was expecting parody, so needless to say I was disappointed with this one. There's some cheesy one liners throughout the book, but all in all, meh, and I don't know a single person who has the time to make these intricate things. Naw, I'm a pour cupcake batter in a muffin tin, bake and call it good, no frosting, no frills kind of person. I'm sure this will appeal to, if not a lot, at least a somewhat decent amount of people, but it wasn't my cup of frosting, so to speak.

Ever wanted to be Hot Pie? Of course you do, he's made it through 7 series and this recipe book may be able to help hone your culinary skills - there is indeed a direwolf bread recipe. A great gift for any Thrones fans. I definitely plan on making a Sept of Baelor for the finale and Easter is a great time of year for the Oberyn recipe. Valor Morghulis!

THIS BOOK IS BRILLIANT!!!

All baking recipes are themed on Game of Thrones with an artistic or puntastic edge to them.

From Hot Pie’s Wolfbread (a basic wholemeal bread, shaped into a wolf like he did on the show) and Sansa’s Lemon Cakes to a Red (velvet) Wedding Cake (3 tier cake with ‘blood’ pouring down the side) and the one I really REALLY wanna try myself Oberyn’s Smashing Surprise (long story short a decorated chocolate shell filled with red jelly so you can re-enact the scene and squish it open with your fingers, just like The Mountain did to Oberyn’s skull, mwahahahahaaa).

Oh yes, I shall be making a few of these recipes.

I received a preview of this book in the Kindle edition and was excited when I first viewed it. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to rate the extremely limited preview provided. The concept and what I saw looks fun, with witty Game of Thrones references thrown even into the recipes (Tyrion's Shortbread calls for 7,800 jars of wildfire), but without more than a handful of pages I can only give it three stars. With the whole book it probably would have been 4-5, but I can't speculate without actually seeing it.

Diehard fans of Game of Thrones will probably get a chuckle out of this book. Some of the recipes are gruesome (a chocolate head you drive your thumbs into to reveal the raspberry filling). I don't actually see myself making any of the recipes in here. Annoyingly, the recipe measurements are given using European measurements. All the recipes have complex assembly instructions, so again, I don't see anyone actually setting out to make any of these. Cute idea, but poorly executed.

I like this one. It is both a parody and a cookbook based on Game of Thrones. While some diehard fans of Game of Thrones are likely to think that this one is making fun of the original. I would respectably disagree. It is this kind of creativity that makes reading books more fun. Parodies have their place in this world and cookbooks are very useful.

It is a good fun cookery book for fans of the series, like others I expected some recipes to set the scene for a Westbros party but the ones given are great fun. Slightly glad this was a friend's copy as I have the recipes given in other books although this book's display ideas are certainly more stunning.

I got this for Christmas for my mother, and got to quickly go through it. Much fun. I rather enjoyed it, though I think I was expecting either more scones, or more food from the books/show. However, I found it quite enjoyable and actually tempted to make a few of the recipes.
The humour was spot on.
