My Grape Cellar takes fans of Laura Bradbury’s Grape Series back to the charming village of Beaune, where Laura and Franck embark on another grande adventure to restore a long-neglected wine cellar beneath the cobblestone streets—sight unseen.
Much as they dream of family winetastings in this relic of historic France, reviving a thirteenth-century cellar proves a formidable task. Laura never imagined she’d be hunting through ancient sinks, hauling stones by moonlight, or appointing godparents for a medieval cave, all while managing an even more important project: a new baby. Can Laura and Franck transform a dingy cellar full of garbage and coal into a magical space in the wine capital of Burgundy? Find out in My Grape Cellar, book 6 in the bestselling Grape Series.
Laura Bradbury is the author of the bestselling Grape Series, an award-winning cookbook Bisous and Brioche, the Winemakers Series, and "huggable" rom coms such as Oxford Wild.
She has a law degree from Keble College, Oxford but Laura’s true love was always storytelling.
She married a Frenchman and ran off to France after graduation so she would have something to write about. Now Laura lives between Burgundy, France and an island off Canada's West Coast with her French husband and their three daughters. She can be found writing, reading, or eating snails with a nice glass of Pinot.
I first started reading Laura Bradbury with her first work of fiction, “A Vineyard for Two” – I enjoyed that one so much that I will happily seek out her memoir series.
I just finished this one, #6 in the memoir series. I think they can be read as stand-alones, but I definitely am interested in reading the earlier ones! Laura and Franck buy an apartment in Beaune that comes with a neglected cellar. There’s a fascinating history of wine cellars in this region including ancient Roman cellars likely underneath. They spend quite a bit of time restoring the cellar and it was fascinating to be along for the ride. They luck out with connections to some people that have a magical touch with creating a perfect home and cellar. I need someone like Robert to redo my house!
This book placed me right in the heart of all things French and I loved reading all about their lifestyle. I want to go hunting for the perfect items to finish an apartment and go to a cellar baptism!
I really want to make time to read all of these memoirs now. And maybe look into renting one of their restored apartments on a visit to France. This was a perfect short read during a busy time for me -- completely fit the bill!
Thank you to Laura Bradbury for an early copy of this one to read.
Another great read with that Laura Bradbury magic.
Another beautiful cover, and lovely presentation-the books in this series are my feel-good go-to reads. Memoirette length, with fairly short chapters, this is a good companion to the other books in the series.
These books are such lovely reads; Laura Bradbury perfectly captures the atmosphere and beauty of the area.
I’ve not yet read all of the books, but, as the author has written them ‘out of order’, then it really doesn’t matter if you start with one rather than the other.
I really enjoyed the read. Some of the things she says certainly made me smile. A very entertaining read. Despite being 'novella length', this is still a fairly substantial read.
For me, pure reading luxury. Lovely reading for cosy nights in.
I have enjoyed all of Laura's Grape series, this being my sixth read. She has a lovely easy writing style taking her readers on wonderful journeys though Burgundy. My Grape Cellar charts the transformation of a lowly wine cellar, which she and Franck purchase along with an apartment that is also in need of renovation. Although pregnant with her third child, she manages to juggle life as a mother, with that of a partner in a holiday rental business. I enjoyed her descriptions of all the talented friends who helped create a charming addition to their business portfolio.
This is another delightful memoir from Laura Bradbury. I do love her books and her wonderful way with words which draws the reader in. This describes their renovation of an ancient cellar in Beaune which they acquired when buying a house in the town. What an undertaking it was and at a time when Laura was pregnant with her third child. Undaunted, and with the help of friends the job gets underway and the cellar is sympathetically restored to a beautiful place where folks can enjoy wine tasting events in the heart of town. I love her descriptions of Burgundy and the wonderful recipes she shares. This is a short book, sit down with a glass of wine and read it. You will be transported to France.
This was my least favorite of the series. It seemed to stay with real estate, food, and wine rather than family and all things French. And it seemed to skip over Laura's expanding family. Still, I enjoyed the read and gained a greater sense of travel and living in France.
I read this on my Kindle app on an old phone. This series has been easy for my eyes and fun for my language curiosities. I've already moved on to the next book. This one will center on the new baby. That should be more fun for me.
I have read all the grape series and I find them, amusing, and enlightening. I have enjoyed learning about another culture and all the little detail of that culture and how your worked though the cultural divide!
Restoring a wine cellar and having a baby Burgundian style After reading this book all I wanted to do was visit the beautiful old wine cellar that they lovingly restored and meet the family. I was sad to finish this, currently the final book in the Grape series, and I do hope that there are more books in the future. Laura writes with an ease and fluidity that allow you as the reader to be fully immersed in her story. Laura captures the essence of the region in which they live and brings it to life for you. Her descriptions of the local food and wine are superb and make you feel hungry! The French lifestyle, family and village are all brought to life in her books, and this is a series of books that I have thoroughly enjoyed reading and that I can highly recommend.
I am a fan of this authors memoirs - The Grape series - I've loved them all so far. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity of an advanced reader’s copy of this latest book. This is a memoirette and a lovely addition, No.6 in this series. It’s an easy, light-hearted read, packed full of the author and her husband Franck’s daily life at a time when they renovate a wine cellar that got quite by accident - a lovely read.
I've just finished reading the whole of the grape series back to back and have fell in love with the Germaine family!! Lovely, lovely well written books that take you through the highs and lows right from the beginning.
I'm actually a bit lost now I've finished them all! Already signed up to Laura's mailing list and looking forward to some more! X
Truly, I have been captivated by Laura Bradbury’s Grape series. I have always wanted to go to France, and Laura/s writing is so refreshing, and her portrayals of her family, friends and neighbors, is so realistic, that I feel like I have been there. One day I will make that happen. Having finished this book, I will next start on her first novel.
Each and every book that Laura has written is very interesting and informative. It is amazing to learn about the huge amount of Wine Cellars in France. They devoted so much time, and extreme physical work in the wine cellar thus creating and developing a magnificent venue for years to come. Wonderfully written.
Reading Laura Bradbury's charming Grape series is like enjoying a relaxing conversation with a good friend. Her descriptions of her life in France - the laughs, tears, quirks and sweetness - are delightful. I'm so happy to have discovered these lovely books!
I adore Laura's memoirs of her life in France. Especially now, with much of the world under quarantine, her stories soothe this wanderers desire to enjoy other cultures. Hopefully one day to enjoy Burgundy in person.
Another delightful Memoir Having bought this wonderful series of books I was reluctant to start this, the final one, I wanted to savor the magical world of Laura and Franck a bit longer, I did not want our adventure to end. Wanting to increase their rental portfolio they buy an apartment in Beaune, to their surprise and delight there is a thirteen-century disused wine cellar, sight unseen they agree to buy this.
Laura, heavily pregnant with their third child, so much of the renovation is down to Franck and his trusty team of workers, their new friend Robert a talented builder, whose advice and knowledge knows no boundary. Faithful, trusty Hugo is back and the three of them are knee-deep in renovations surging forward with determination and stamina through the aches and pains.
Much to Laura's delight, they travel to the reclamation yard in search of a sink, clamoring through fields in the dead of night to acquire discarded stones to help direct the beam of the floor lights so they bathe the cellar in gentle lighting. Between them they seem to be able to turn their hand to anything, the job gets underway and the cellar is finally restored to a beautiful place.
Their dreams of being able to hold wine tastings in their own cellar whilst renting out cleverly designed spaces have come to fruition, their three daughters had great fun playing imaginary games in the cellar and were delighted with the child-sized tasting table courtesy of Robert's ingenious idea for the girls. The Baptism of the cellar was a huge success and once again I found myself transported there, enjoying life in Beaune with old friends.
I can highly recommend this series of books, thank you, Laura.
Fantastic, short read - especially of wine lovers who understand the intrigue and whimsy of owning a wine cellar. Further in populating with valuable, longer-term bottled residents! I’ve read all of Ms. Bradbury’s grape series - as they appeared on the market - and this book offered a lovely end to what began with a spunky, brave seventeen year old... I would love to say more about the parallels of the family events she witnessed to what she & Franck have built - but I wouldn’t want to spoil the evolution for other readers... Well done Ms. Bradbury and look forward to hearing more from your autobiographical and/or fiction series!
Laura's adventures continue as she and her husband purchase another property. This one includes a wine cellar that wasn't disclosed until day of closing. She has a funny wit that make her books enjoyable to read. I've read most of the others and the ones I haven't read are on my Kindle to be read.
I really enjoyed this book, the 6th in Laura Bradbury's “Grape” series. In this one, over the course of a couple of years they do up a cellar, under their holiday unit in Beaune. Lots of old friends come back and we meet some new friends as they turn the derelict, filthy cellar into a place to hold wine tastings.
I'm a Laura Bradbury fan. At once she's a worldly teacher and seems like a friend. I love reading about the life she's built and the loved in her life. She's uplifting.
I love this series. Laura makes you feel like you are right there in "the bevy "sharing their latest adventure. Their friends are your friends. Something wonderful to escape to during these trying times.
The Grape Series is a memoir of Laura's adventures in France, but they don't read as memoirs typically do. Wonderfully entertaining! I saw a couple of pictures of the wine cellar they renovated and it's amazing.
I love Laura's embrace of Burgundy life - renovating a wine cellar with the help of so many delightful characters. She does me no good with descriptions of delicious food and wine but it really makes the area come alive. All her memoirs are fascinating and educational
Wow. This was another great story. Laura and Franck buy an apartment in France with a neglected wine cellar. You help them along as you feel a part of the story.
Always interested, humor and good description of village life and the people in them. A pleasant trip into renovation an old cellar and living in France
