“All men have an Achilles heel.” And Cassandra Mills was his.

As I began reading this novel, I was a little anxious because I realized it mirrored the trope of one of my absolute favorite HRs of ALL TIME, I Kissed a Rogue by Shana Galen, a second-chance lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers romance. I feared that this book would steer too close to my beloved favorite and fail in comparison, but I found myself pleasantly surprised and impressed. I fell in love with Benedict in book two, so I could not wait for his story with the elusive Cassandra. Their story was one of great love and great heartbreak, but underneath all of the buried hurt and guilt was a deep love and compassion for each other that ultimately unites them once again. Another great story by Adele filled with love, friendship, and mystery, and I cannot wait for Sybil's book next!!

After professing to love and marry Benedict Cavanagh five years ago, Lady Cassandra Mills gave in to her father's haranguing and turned against Benedict, crying off from their engagement. Since her rejection, the two have had nothing but cross words for each other, initiated by Cassandra, any time their paths have crossed. Cassandra knows she doesn't deserve kindness or compassion from him, the man should hate her, but when Cassandra is kidnapped from a ball, drugged, and dumped half-naked in Hyde Park, it is Benedict who comes to her aid.

Though it pains him, Benedict Cavanagh, the beloved but illegitimate son of the Earl of Tregarth, has a conscience and finds he must do something to help his former love. He was close to whisking her home before the day's first riders saw her in the park, but whoever staged Cassandra's elaborate ruination put paid to that plan. When Cassandra asks Benedict to marry her, he finds himself unable to turn his back on her and the feelings she still stirs in him. Cassandra has truly only ever wanted to marry Benedict, but now as they work together to learn who has been plotting against them, it is difficult to know who to trust and they must learn to rely on each other. But with so much pain and betrayal still between them, and some unknown villain still striving to drive them apart, is it possible for them to rekindle their love again?

Firstly, I really loved this book. Like Benedict's friends, I really didn't like Cassandra in the previous books because she was awful to Benedict and caused him such pain. But love and hate are often closely related and her vitriol stemmed from her own heartbreak, which didn't make it okay, but I understood. I loved seeing Cassandra break free of her father's selfish machinations and really come into her own, making decisions for herself based on what was best for her and Benedict. I found Benedict to be a great hero, so mature and strong in character, and it was great to finally see him get his happily ever after. He and Cassandra had such good chemistry, both in their physical relationship and in their emotional connection and it was great to see them get a second chance at happiness. I found their interactions to be interesting to read and the secondary characters were great too. Everyone had their own agendas and this bit of intrigue kept me invested in the story. This is turning out to be one of my favorite series and I can't wait for the next installment.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Blog link: https://mustreadalltheromance.blogspo...

When Scandal Came to Town is the third book in the Scandalous Sons series. This has been such a wonderful series, and this is a great addition to it. The book was well written and fast paced. I loved the main characters, who were well developed and perfect for each other. We meet Benedict in the earlier books and got a brief view at the pain he felt from Cassandra refusal to marry him. I was so glad to finally see him get his happy ever after and I can’t wait to read the next book.
Benedict Cavanagh, the illegitimate son of the Earl of Tregarth, received a note to be at Hyde Park at dawn. He discovered the woman he had loved before she had shunned him, laying half naked in the park. Rather than leave her there to fend for herself, he tries to help her escape ruin. Unfortunately, he wasn’t the only one to receive a note.
Cassandra Mills awoke to find herself in Hyde Park half naked with no idea how she came to be there. Her first thought was that Benedict must have done it to get even with her for listening to her father and refusing to marry him years ago. She is shocked when Benedict helps her and then agrees to marry her.
Can they find the person behind Cassandra’s ruin? Can they overcome the past to have a happy ever after?
I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily read and reviewed it with my honest opinion.

This story had me gripped from the first page. This was a good paced story with plenty of action to keep my interest until the end. Romance and a mystery, what more could I want! I’m enjoying this series about the illegitimate sons of the aristocracy. I love the feeling of brotherhood between the men and the fact that their wives are no shrinking violets. This story concerns Benedict, the son of the Earl of Tregarth and Cassandra, daughter of an earl. Cassandra’s father was manipulative and obsessed with status and power. Benedict and Cassandra had such a connection and there were some very passionate scenes and some tender moments. There is also the mystery to uncover as to who was behind the actions. I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Adele Clee is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I like her style and storytelling. I loved this lovers, to enemies, to allies story. The Hero is one of my favorites as well. Benedict Cavanaugh makes no apologies for who he is, but still remains a gentleman at heart. Loving this entire series. Highly recommend.

I am so loving this series. This time we have Benedict and Cassandra in a second chance romance which is one of my favorite tropes. Add into that a bit of mystery and, boom, I am there in a heartbeat. I love how the fathers of these scandalous sons truly do love their children and Tregarth might be my favorite father. Cassandra gets a chance to redeem herself in this story. Knights in shining armor galloping to the rescue of damsels in distress, a villain of a father and a coward of a fiancé. What more could you ask for? The way these scandalous sons work together and trust each other (and their wives) is wonderful to read about. Ms. Clee’s stories are wonderfully written, the main characters are people you love to cheer on and the stories themselves are fantastic.

I received a complimentary copy from the author.

Great

I found this a really good book. Cassandra is an amazing character. She has been forced to do her Father's bidding for years until the day scandal comes to her door and she has to evaluate every thing her father has done to her over the past 5 years. Can Benedict give her back her self respect?

This is a delightful story of second chance love. It's perfectly paced. There is plenty of mystery. The villain(s) is/are horrible and everybody has an agenda. And we get to meet some old favorites again. I truly enjoyed the story of Benedict and Cassandra. I'm sure you will, too.

And yet another great book in the series! Again, Clee has created real, likeable protagonists, which I love.
Benedict's and Cassandra's story started out very differently from the previous two couples, in that they couldn't stand each other (Benedict for obvious reasons, and Cassandra because she was a pawn of her asshole father). They still secretly loved each other, even after their five-year hate-fest. It was great seeing them work together to solve the mystery of who was trying to ruin Cassandra's reputation; as a result, they allowed their walls of hate to erode.
Like his friends, Benedict was a fighter - mentally and physically - and his father was cool too. I also liked how the ladies from the first two books took Cassandra under their wings... once they and their husbands grilled the shit out of her. Remember - she was very nasty to Benedict in the past.
Looking forward to the next book! 5 stars!

"Perhaps we should kiss more often. After all you are my wife." Sigh. Yep that was me not Cassandra the heroine of this enthralling tale!
There is so much I want to say about this story, but I would just be giving you play by play of what happens between Benedict and Cassandra and the suspense and mystery that takes you on a journey from the first page!
Adele Clee has created yet another fascinating tale of two people who were in love at a younger age, but due to birth, peerage and an overbearing father they were torn apart. Now years later in the most damaging of circumstances they are thrown back together through the manipulation and cunning of an unknown villian. Someone is trying to ruin her father, or maybe just her, but it backfires a little.
Can these two work together to solve the mystery and find the love they seem to have never forgotten?
When I begin to read a book by this amazing storyteller, I know I will not be able to put if down until the end and it will contain everything I adore in a historical romance. I am never disappointed! Perfection overload!

The book did not make sense to me. None of the characters actions or motivations were realistic. Like, the hero and heroine were in love and the heroine was forced to reject him and then proceeded to be a b*tch to him for five years. Why? No real reason was given other than some throwaway line about her being angry. Even when they reunite there's no anger, they are basically smitten immediately. I mean the hero is barely resentful, and his anger was at least justified. If I wasn't told over and over how they hated each other, I would have had no idea. Nothing in the story supported their supposed history of animosity.

I don't want to spoil anything, but the end reveal was stupid too.

Also, bad female anatomy. Come on authors, learn where the hymen is! If you are going to make a big deal about a virgin having sex for the first time at least get the basics right.

It started strong but everything went down from there.
Second chance story about a girl that denies the "love of her life" for her father's advice. They "hate" each other after that and after a ruse they found each other in compromising circumstances. They have to get married (they both wanted it) and then the book spends a lot of time just following shallow leads and the couple having rushed sex, that's it.

This second chance for love story continues the theme of parent-adult child relationship issues common to the series. The book deals with gross control and manipulation by parents in order to increase power and to achieve personal vengeance.

When Cassandra Mills finds herself dumped in Hyde Park drugged and wearing only her chemise, the last person she wants to see is the love of her heart whom she callously rejected five years ago. Benedict Cavanagh may despise (really?) Cassandra, but no gentleman, even an illegitimate one like himself, leaves a lady in such dire straits. Benedict's assistance ends up looking like something else to some of society's most powerful men, thus requiring rapid damage control.

But Cassandra's betrothed, her father's chosen for an up and coming political career, seems unwilling for the hasty wedding necessary to mitigate total destruction of her reputation. So Cassandra takes control and releases him from the obligation - after all, she never loved him and obviously he had no strong affection for her either. Cassandra tells her father that she will marry Benedict Cavanagh, or not marry at all!

They marry, but her past betrayal stands between them. Nevertheless they work together, along with the couples from books 1 and 2, to discover who has been plotting against them. This action filled twisty, turny investigation keeps the reader engaged and guessing! Some nice descriptive sensual sex scenes develop as our couple work on forgiveness and trust in the marriage.

I felt so sad and disappointed for Cassandra as those who should have shown her love and support let her down. I had some concern for Benedict's anger management issues, but I decided that frustration fueled the anger to which I can relate. I absolutely love the secondary character the Earl of Tregarth, Benedict's father! Surely his is a fascinating story!

Love this series! Cannot wait to get into book 4!

I love Adele Clee's books - she always gets me so involved with her stories & I never can figure out the "whodunit" until it is written out in front of me. I love that & there are always so many possibilities.

Benedict Cavanaugh is the bastard son of the Earl of Tregarth & Benedict will inherit all of the Earl's unentailed assets & a cousin would inherit the title. Benedict is known for his carousing, partying & womanizing around London but he had needed a place to help him heal after the love of his life broke off their relationship 5 years ago. And then he received an anonymous note to go to Hyde Park at dawn for a surprise he could not miss - he was surprised & found her 1/2 naked in a dirty chemise laying on the ground.

Cassandra Mills, daughter of the Earl of Worthen was beautiful, full of life, kind & in love with Benedict Cavanaugh, until she wasn't - she broke the betrothal & informed his that he was not good enough for her & her position in society. For five years, they would run in to one another & the verbal hate would start between them & everyone knew how much they despised each other. And then one night she woke up on the grass in only her chemise & who should ride up on his black stallion except the bane of her existence.

Ms. Clee's plot has danger, intrigue, villains, loving friends - old & new, evil family, some spicy romance & it will have you so embroiled in this wonderful couples fight to prove innocence & to find what was & could be again. The re-visit with some of the secondary characters is so great & they are such an asset to the story & I will say that you will not be disappointed in this book or this series.

I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.

Melodrama. Maybe if I read the other books, I wouldn't have disliked Cassandra as much but these two characters are both drama llamas. Their conversations are so passionate, their highs so high, their lows so distressing (for them.) I'm not into high angst or even characters who internally complain about their broken hearts constantly. At one point, the MC runs away from her husband because she's so TIRED of everything and breaks down in tears. He chases after her (and wasn't even part of the problem!!) and declares he loves her and her heart is soaring again. So maybe Clee's writing style isn't for me. Plenty of people love that kind of stuff.
There is a mystery that I won't spoil so that takes up some of the book but some of it is them getting it on. They pretended to hate each other for 5 YEARS and are forced to marry and are doing it within 3 days. I don't know, sometimes a slow burn seems a little more appropriate given the circumstances and how many places they have to visit to solve the mystery (including a brothel that definitely seems more like a sex club. It's amazing how often you have to visit one of those in a historical romance.) Literally, they are running about all the time, having sex, their friends show up to drop a few learned clues (and wink about their sex life, "I suppose you guys look tired because of how stressed you are." "Oh, better eat a hearty breakfast. I'm sure you'll need your strength later." Not direct quotes but you get the gist.) and then it repeats.

When Scandal Comes To Town is the third instalment in Adele Clee’s Scandalous Sons series and possibly my favourite so far.
Benedict Cavanaugh, the illegitimate son of the Earl of Tregarth, stumbles across Lady Cassandra Mills lying half naked and drugged in Hyde Park at dawn. Even though she once rejected his suit 5 years ago, Benedict cannot leave her to her ruin. He attempts to save her reputation by trying to spirit her home but the villain behind Cassandra’s downfall is too clever.
Caught in such inauspicious circumstances Benedict and Cassandra are forced to wed. But can 5 years of hurt and bitterness be overcome? And will love prevail despite the machinations of the unknown villain?
I liked this story a lot. A young Cassandra let herself be swayed by her father’s edicts five years ago and sacrificed her love to gain her parent’s approval. She has lived with that regret ever since.
Prepared to forget her love and marry well, she finds herself at the centre of a scandal not of her making. Now that her reputation is no longer above reproach, she finally feels liberated enough to chase her dreams – namely marriage to the man she never stopped loving. But can she convince Benedict that her love is not fickle? Added to that is the need to find whoever it was behind her ruination and gain justice.
With the help of their friends the Wycliffs and the Trents, Benedict and Cassandra rush to find the villain who set out to harm Cassandra as well as rediscovering their love and learning to trust each other again.
As with all of Adele’s books, this is fast paced and keeps the reader guessing as to who the real culprit is. Benedict and Cassandra’s road to a HEA is not easy but it is heartwarming to see them coming back together with a stronger love between them.
I would highly recommend this book and although it can be a standalone, I would recommend readers go back and read the previous two books because this is a great series.
Looking forward to Sybil’s story which is hopefully next.
I received this book as an ARC but the views are completely my own.

Two Halves of a Whole Reunited

Five years ago Lady Cassandra Mills denounced the man she had loved all of her young life. She vowed she would never love another, even if she did end up marrying her betrothed.

Five years ago Benedict Cavanagh had his heart ripped out and crushed by the woman he had loved all of his life. He vowed to protect his heart from love, even though he can't stop loving the other half of his soul.

When I'm reading a book that I can't put down, when I'm annoyed by interruptions, and I'm sad to come to the end...then I know I've just finished a 5-star favorite. Such is the case with When Scandal Came to Town by Adele Clee.

I loved everything about this engrossing and entertaining novel. As with Ms. Clee's other books, the characters were well developed and vibrant. The hero and heroine were complex, slightly flawed and totally in love. Their on-screen chemistry was so hot the pages threatened to combust. The plot was tightly woven with twists and turns that culminated in a satisfying ending.

All in all When Scandal Came to Town qualifies as one of my all-time favorites. Good job Adele Clee.

Content alert: In addition to a few descriptive on-screen bedroom scenes, there is some swearing and three specifically placed vulgarities

Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book from the author. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.

Cassandra Mills and Benedict Cavanagh have been in love for years. However, Cassandra's father wants her to marry a man who will be important, and Benedict, the illegitimate son of the Earl of Tregarth, is not that man. The story opens after Cassandra and Benedict have been enemies for five years. She wakes up (almost nude) in the grass of Hyde Park at dawn. Up rides Benedict. He is gathering her to take her home when men arrive and make an instant judgment about what they see.

Cassandra says she must get home so she can call for Lord Murray to come and agree to marry her immediately. When Lord Murray arrives, he demurs. Cassandra says she doesn't want to marry Lord Murray and breaks the engagement. Several hours later, Cassandra and her father, the Earl of Worthen, arrive at Benedict's townhouse. Benedict learns that the engagement is broken, and when Cassandra asks him to marry her, he refuses. When Cassandra tells him that she will marry Benedict or no one, Benedict reconsiders. They married two days later.

The mystery of who would commit such a despicable act against Cassandra underpins the story. This story revives the characters from the previous two books. However, when an author resorts to repeated sexual encounters, it usually means that the story is lacking in depth. The story was strong enough to stand on its own without all the sexual content.

This is a typical meaningless, implausible book for this author, which fully corresponds to the short format of the short story. The hero is the most beautiful of all his friends and did not get a good story: an empty plot, an empty investigation, which is carried out by other people while the heroes have sex every free minute, at any time and anywhere, in the style when the heroine jumps on her knees with her skirts pulled up. We are told that the heroes loved each other 5 years ago when she was 18 and the hero was 21, but I didn’t understand why, there’s not enough format, there aren’t enough flashbacks and memories, and then there’s such love that 5 years of insults and humiliations to the heroine The handsome hero could not forget such love. I DO NOT BELIEVE!!!! And the heroine is a dummy, it’s not clear what she looks like, such an undetailed description that I couldn’t even imagine her. And now 2 days and the handsome man is already going crazy with lust and love and forgets and forgives everything. For me, this book is a dummy: neither pursuit nor love is believable or interesting, and sex is like with a whore in a brothel, and not making love with the woman you love. I don't recommend it.

This was such a fabulous story, I had a hard time putting it down until I'd finished it! Adele Clee keeps outdoing herself with this series and really keeps you on your toes until the mystery is solved. This is Benedict and Cassandra's story and wow, what a story it is!! It's a second chance story, as well as a "who done it" story and the love and passion these two share is thoroughly heartwarming.

I absolutely adored Benedict's character and my heart ached for him and what he's gone through, being illegitimate and having lost Cassandra's love but now, 5 years later, Cassandra is back in his life in a most mysterious way and the truth finally comes out why Cassandra had left him and why she had been so nasty to him. The most important part....they never stopped loving each other!!

As the mystery of who had kidnapped Cassandra and left her in Hyde Park unravels, you will be awed by all the deceit, backstabbing, lies and who in fact is to blame! I really enjoyed seeing characters from the previous books in the series as well.

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

No one to trust

Cassandra wanted desperately to appease her father and earn some sort of relationship with him! So much has happened since she broke Benedict heart and listen to poison spewing from her fathers mouth about his illegitimate origins! Benedict received a note that has him arriving in the park to a best naked and filthy Cassandra dazed and not clear on what happened to her! Bitter words are exchanged and Cassandra is such an ungrateful brat Benedict is ready to ride off and leave her! Witnesses arrive and leaving her almost filthy and naked is not an option! As this diabolical plan unfolds it is clear that someone has gone to a great deal of trouble to thoroughly ruin Cassandra where she can scarcely hold her head up in public! Who could hate her that much to cause such a public scandal!? The truth hits close to home and betrayal runs deep! It is unfathomable and unconscionable what lengths this evil reaches! Benedict has to defend the woman that he never stopped loving and Cassandra has to draw strength to fight for a future she's not sure she deserves!!!!

Book 3 of the Scandalous Sons series was difficult to read. 5 years before the beginning of the book, the Heroine rejected the Hero's marriage proposal. In those 5 years, they were hostile and bitter towards each other, saying and doing hurtful things to inflict pain on the other.
Due to the scandal created by the Hero finding the Heroine with very few clothes on in the early morning hours after a ball she had attended the night before and them being caught by several men of the ton, the two were forced to marry. However, the pain of the previous 5 years was hard to ignore and move past.
The Hero and Heroine were determined to find out who created the scandal and why. Thus the focus of this book was truly not romantic but a mystery to be solved...again. While there was still a smidge of chemistry between them, there wasn't really any romance or passion.
Unlike the previous books in the series, there was a good deal more humor in this one. That was the only thing to keep this book from being utterly unworthy of reading. It was an excellent way to end an otherwise dull book. However, it still did not help the book to warrant being Keeper for the Shelves worthy.

These stories just keep on getting better and better. Each has been extremely well thought out and plotted and the end result is a brilliantly written and highly entertaining story.
In this one Cassandra and Benedict have a second chance at a love of note!
And, it all begins with an abduction with a difference.
Needless to say, the two get together to solve the mystery in order to right the wrong but before they can do this they need to wed to diffuse their compromising situation.
But will this be a marriage of convenience even though the heat level between them is combustable? Well, that would be telling...
Let me leave you with the admission I am sure this story will keep you reading till you tie up all the loose ends. And what a lovely bow those tied up ends make in the end!
I am recommending this book as a read that you will probably not be able to put down.

Stunning stuff, Benedict and Cassandra are pure magic together.
Their chemistry overflows from every confrontation and passionate clinch.

I’ve always adored Adele’s books and writing, and the Scandalous Sons series are some of her best .
Twists in the plots , tension in her characters relationships and romantic interludes that steam up your kindle .

Benedict and Cassandra have loved each other for years , but family interference on her side and the fact he’s illegitimate are what tore them apart.

When it comes to the crunch and she’s in danger of ruin he’s her only hope , but will he step in to save her or will he walk away .

It was great to meet the stars of her last books in this series again ,and to be introduced to some very interesting new ones.
It’s also really wonderful to be able to look forward to Daventry and Sybil’s book which comes next .

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

5 STARS, HISTORICAL REGENCY ERA DRAMA, KIDNAPPING

Book 3 is a fabulous & entertaining read & definitely fits into this Series. Adele Clee gave another delicacy out for hungry readers to devour! Oh yeah, licking fingers good as pages flew by & actual sounds of no, yes, umm, ok, plus incoherent sounds , page after page went by to this reader's satisfaction. ( I am sure I made various faces along with the sounds & some without. Beg your pardon, readers! )

Cassandra & Benedict, friends since they were young; but due to prejudice were not allowed to be in love. Their friendly relationship was stopped. Now, this terrible kidnapping of Cassandra & leaving her naked mostly in the park, who was out to destroy both of them? 5 years they had only said mean & hurtful things to each other, now, they looked at the other suspiciously.

Wonderful to unravel the clues & find out with them who had arranged for them to be in the park that night? RECOMMEND

Cassandra and Benedict’s story was so good, I had no sleep last night because once I started this book, I had to finish. Benedict and Cassandra once loved each other, but Cassandra turned Benedict away because he was illegitimate. Their love turned to verbal spats which made them dislike each other, but not deep down. I enjoyed their story of finding love and each other again. I have to say, I fell a little in love with Benedict, who wouldn’t. This book has mystery and friendship also. I also adore Benedict’s father and the love he has for his son. I don’t want to give anything away, but a Father who would go across London in his robe to help his son is a father we all should adore.
I received a copy of this book for my honest review.

I really liked this well-written story. An "unexpected second chance" story for Cassandra and Benedict (loved these two characters) with another intriguing mystery that had me guessing until the end; the mystery's solution was unexpected. The back story of how the young lovers were torn apart brought Persuasion to mind as Cassandra's father turned her against Benedict.
As usual with Adele Clee's stories, I felt the balance between action, dialog and description to be just right and had me turning page after page.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Nice book but after reading lots of Scottish romance, regency doesn’t just do it for me anymore. I don’t really like the 2 days instant reconnection or the quick decisions and discoveries. Sometimes it felt Benedict was more bluster than action, (especially after the demimonde lady hyped his sexual prowess but the descriptions of the lovemaking was super average). I didn’t enjoy the investigation and really just wanted to read when the couple came to a resolution concerning her rejection of him 5 years ago. So I skipped sometimes.

However if regency is your thing, I believe you’d like this.
