In Me #3

It Dreams in Me

Rate this book
Sora, the High Chieftess of the Black Falcon Nation, has been banished by her own people until she can find healing for her broken spirit. Her seductive, murderous rampages have led to war with nearby clans and caused dissension in her own, as well. If another body was to turn up, Sora will certainly be blamed--even her own clan will demand her death. Now facing her thirty-third winter, she and her husband Flint are wandering the land searching frantically for the means to cure her shattered soul.

In the wake of the Eagle Flute Village massacre, Red Raven witnessed a woman murder Chief Short Tail of the Loon people in an exotic ritual. As word spreads, more people want Sora found and killed, but there is still hope to heal her . . . she must find her reflection-soul. But Short Tail's shadow-soul managed to find a home in his last breath, and, hell-bent on revenge, he'll do anything to put an end to Sora's life.

My professional life began in the dark basement of the Museum of Cultural History in Los Angeles, where I was cataloguing three-hundred-year-old Guatemalan saint carvings. I quit this fascinating job and moved to Wyoming to work for the U.S. Department of the Interior as a historian and archaeologist. When I finally understood the error of my ways I moved to Wyoming and started writing books. Since then, I've authored or co-authored 54 novels and around 200 non-fiction publications.

I love writing. And buffalo. And hiking the wilds of Wyoming's backcountry.

I'm married (until he comes to his senses) to W. Michael Gear, the novelist and my co-author, and we live at the edge of the Wind River Indian Reservation in the Owl Creek mountains of Wyoming. We're contented watching buffalo and writing books.

This was a bit of a mess, and I honestly can't figure out why I couldn't put this series down. My biggest gripe with this book again is the gratuitous SA. And the political knot got so tangled I would need an evidence board to fully decipher it. In the end, I was disappointed that the whole picture wasn't a little clearer. But at the same time, if there were three more of these I would lose sleep reading them. 🤷‍♀️

It Dreams in Me by Kathleen O'Neal Gear was, quite simply, not very good. I grabbed it for cheap in my Walgreen's to see what a supposed "historical romance" would be like. It was not very historical, and it certainly wasn't a romance. It was more of a weird Florida Indians mystery....

Yeah.

Reading this book was kind of like walking through an art museum and seeing Rembrandt after Rembrandt, and then stumbling upon a Japanese ink painting of only two lines. The ink is lovely, but after all those Rembrandts, well...all you can say is "meh." If it were a fully-fledged Japanese ink painting, maybe you'd say wow, but this is only two lines. The rest is blank white page.

The "blank white page" in this metaphor is what is left for you, the reader, to fill in for yourself. All the author gives you is bare sketch lines and the rest is a blank. There is no depth, no true description, no beauty.

Good series

This was a good series, like people of the owl, it's a successful deviation from the Gear's more typical format. The ending is ruff and a little abrupt would have appreciated a prolong but overall it's a good read and as usual if you're a devoted fan of these authors and have an understanding and connection with the deeper spiritual nature of their works its another thought provoking and spiritually stimulating read. FYI super sexual deviation from the Gear's coauthored books.

The last book wasn't as good as I had hoped. There was so much happening that it was hard to keep up. Unlike book 1 and 2, this one took my much longer to read. I did still like the series overall, but I am sad to how Sora's life was lived in the end. Flint who was portrayed to be the love of her life ultimately betrayed and hurt her.

It Dreams in Me

I just finished this incredible story by Kathleen Gear and like all the books by her and her husband, this one held me from the first paragraph through the last. Now I have several more to read. I really love all the Gears book. Great story tellers!

Wow!!! What a ride! I was thoroughly entranced and emmeshed in this trilogy! The layers run deep in this one. Very sensitive to triggers. Be wary of how you approach. I love Native lore and projections of history and this hit the mark at a perfect craving.

The third and final book in the "In Me" series continues the intrigue and mystery. I couldn't put the book down. The mystery keeps us reading and tantalized right up to the end.

What a strange book! I didn't realize it was the last book of a trilogy, which might explain some of the strangeness. I'm not sure if I'll bother to read the first two books.

With this book we really got a close look at Flint and Sora's relationship in the past and what he was up to know.

Also this book had some great moves for those that love political intrigue. Wink made some moves that were so cold hearted, with the old adage of the welfare of the many is better than the welfare of one.

Sore is still trying to find a cure for her. Again the methods were crazy and involved sex. The answers that she finds along the way are interesting.

Overall I found this series to be very interesting on why some people think they are better than others, that they deserve more, and the lengths they go to to get it.

The book is the conclusion for the Black Falcon trilogy. There are many long and boring passages in the middle accompanied by several sex scenes, which we've already seeen in the last two books. It's also quite annoying to see that Sora constantly switches which guy she's attracted to. However, the conclusion was very satisfying and quite entertaining near the end.

Seems like a good story, and engaging writing but I'm having a really hard time getting through this. I keep picking it up, then putting it down, then picking it up, then putting it down, then... you get the picture.

It was interesting to read a book where the women ran the tribes and I loved reading about all of the clans and their views on souls, spirits and dreaming. Although there were instances where the sex shifted power.

The ending needed to be a bit clearer. Still unsure about exactly what was causing her illness, or whether she was really murdering people. Also, the politics of it all wrapped up a little to neatly.

This is the last of a trilogy, which I didn't read. It's also only written by one of the Gear's (usually husband and wife write them together). It was an okay read, interesting but not like the usual written by the Gear's.

Loved loved loved it!!!!!!! It wrapped up the series quite well. Even though things don't end exactly the way one thinks they should, the last page fixes everything.
