Welcome to Wonderland Academy. Don't lose your head.

Getting into Wonderland Academy is easy, if you meet the admission criteria.

You must be a little mad.
You must follow the white rabbit.
You must find the key to enter Wonderland.

If you can nail all three, you're in. The only exception? Wonderland Academy never accepts students named Alice. By order of the Queen of Hearts, any Alice found sneaking into Wonderland will be behead.

Which begs a question. Why in the hell am I here?

My name may be Alice, but Wonderland Academy is everything my real life isn't. My boyfriend recently died. I just did a stint in a psych ward on suicide watch. And everyone thinks I'm "crazy" because I see people who aren't there. Ridiculous, right? That's why I'm willing to risk my neck to be here as "Lacey" Crane.

But who wouldn't want to learn how to ride a jabberwocky, train with a vorpal sword, cast spells using a teacup, or shapeshift into a fairy? As long as no one figures out my real name, I should be fine.

The only problem? Aiden, the Queen of Hearts son, is quickly becoming my best friend. And then there's Corbin. Despite the fact my heart is still broken, every time I see him something inside me flutters to life. How I'm going to pass my classes, and protect my secret like my life depends on it is beyond me. But I better find a way. Because in Wonderland, no Alice is safe.

I cannot wait to read the next book! I hope the same narrator does the next book. I really enjoyed the narrator of this book. She really added to the story. I loved how she did each different character. You could really feel the difference in personalities and it really brought the story to life.

To me the first few chapters are very important on if I will continue to read on or not. How the author starts the story, the attitude of the main character and how they introduce the other characters. I loved the beginning of this book. Lacey was vulnerable but also snarky. I really felt for her and the trauma of her past. Warning for other readers there are parts of the story where she talks about losing a childhood friend and her boyfriend during a school shooting. As sad it was to read it really to tie into the story and Lacey's mental health and how she fit in with all the mad people in Wonderland. However I enjoyed more all of the references to fantasy novels and shows that she grew up loving.

One thing that I did not like or wish I could change from the book is that the story only took place over a week. I do not think that it takes away from the story at all. And at some points it feels like the story took place over a longer period of time. I did enjoy all of the experiences she got in her classes and interacting with other students. The Baking class was my favorite. It was very funny to listen too.

The cheshire cat was one of my favorite interactions through the entire book. The talking flowers were funny too. I thought her interactions with Corbin were kinda lack luster but that might be because I was rooting for Aden since the beginning.

I really enjoy books that have hidden or secret agendas in them that get revealed thoughout the book. Sometimes I am able to guess before they are revealed and sometimes not. I really enjoy both and think it really adds to my enjoyment of the story. This story had both. I was able to guess a few of the secrets but not all of them. And they really made me needing to read the next book to see what happens next. I need to know!!

This was the first book from this Author that I have read. I am so happy that I found this book because it has introduced me to a new author that I think I will really enjoy her other books! But seriously I need Wonderland book 2!

So this starts off a little dark, just a warning, but it's not the tone of the entire book or anything. It gets pretty awesome - or should I say wonderful? - after that, actually, what with Wonderland and all!

First things first: I. Called. It. Now that my gloating is out of the way, I have a few things I need to mention.

I absolutely appreciated that this book did not forget about the classes partway through. So refreshing, as I feel like many academy books do forget about it, and just focus on other stuff, such as the characters' romantic and social lives. Sigh. Anyway, kudos to Karsak for that! And the classes were interesting, too. So jealous of Lacey. I want a Vorpal Sword, and a teacup holster, and a jabberwocky (okay, so she doesn't have one of those, but she still got to meet one, and they're basically DRAGONS)! So. Jealous!

Wonderful cover as well! Plus a rich fantasy world, various kingdoms, rising tensions, political intrigue, bitchy princesses, kickass heroines, and even some romance. Call me crazy, but this was just about one of the most perfect books I've read in a while. It had loads of awesome stuff in it, not t mention excellent editing, pacing, grammar, and flow. My only complaint? Book 2 isn't out yet. Not sure how many books the series will have, but my guess is three to five. Probably four?

5 stars for this wonderful dose of madness!

This novel took a bit for me to sink into, but once I did, I didn't want to put it down and was sad when the last page hit.

Ever since Lacey witnessed her boyfriends death during a school shooting, she's been having a rough go at things. She's in the psych ward again, but this time she truly didn't try to commit suicide. Not that anyone really believes her. Just happy to get out and take another run at regular life her grandmother throws a surprise at her—a packed suitcase along with a ticket to the Wonderland Academy. Without warning, Lacey is thrust into the land of Lewis Carroll with one very strong warning. She's not to tell anyone her true first name and not to lose her head. But as things grow stranger and stranger, she needs to find footing in a very strange world and a very strange school and an even stranger secret plan, which no one wants to tell her anything about. Only that she is there to destroy their world as they know it.

The first chapter hits off with Lacey and a nurse, discussing her release and attempted/or not attempted suicide. Lacey carries a lot of baggage, and it was tough to connect with her and what was happening during these first pages. But when she launches into Wonderland, everything starts making sense in a mad sort of way. The world building is imagination pure and draws in until everything seems possible and magical. It's perfect for fantasy friends or those who simply love Wonderland. The author takes the time for Lacey, the Academy and those around her to develop, while allowing the more sinister plot to slowly unfold bit by bit. There's magic. There's intrigue. There's drama. And there's romance.

Friendship and trust are key in these pages, and while some heart-warming moments arise, there's enough truth hidden in the shadows to keep the reader guessing. Not everything is as it seems, and Lacey tries to trust her gut. Which can be good at times, and bad at others. It's a great beginning to a series which promises quite a bit of fun. The romance might be clear-cut and might not, and Lacey's allies might be truly holding good intentions or they might not. But it's exactly this madness which makes wonderland (And this book) a fun guessing game.

I'm looking forward to seeing where all of it will go next.

I received a complimentary copy and was surprised how much I enjoyed the tale. So, I'm leaving my honest thoughts.

This book started slow but really picked up once in Wonderland. Alice Lacey, who goes by her middle name, just got out of the mental hospital for attempted suicide. She is also hiding the fact that she having hallucinations of weirdly dressed people. Once home though she falls down the “rabbit hole” and ends up in Wonderland, specifically Wonderland Academy. She is confused but quickly realizes no one must know that her name is actually Alice, otherwise she might lose her head.

Karsak has created a wonderful world that is fascinating and magical. She has taken a beloved classic and reimagined the world and creatures in it. I loved the premise of this academy in Wonderland with different factions with underlying politics. It was all very fascinating and captivating. I would really love to take the classes at this academy. All of them were so fascinating, especially the teamancy and baking class. I can't wait to find out what happens next after that cliffhanger.

I feel like this book is a retelling with more of a modern day twist. There are triggers for school shootings and suicide.

But in this one, she isn't in an inpatient mental facility because of a suicide attempt. At least, not this time. After her release, she is sent to a private, rather strange, academy that mimics Alice's Adventures. Her curiosity gets the best of her and is thrown into drama, friends, and even some magic.

I gave this one 4 out of 5 stars. I enjoyed the mental health aspect of the story and it was a fun twist on one of my favorite classics. It's a great end-of-summer adventure that would be great for readers who love academy stories.

Alice in Wonderland as you never knew it.
Granted, it has all the elements of the classics - evil queen of Hearts, invisible Cheshire cat, the Caterpillar, vivid colors, talking rabbits, pocket watches, potions to change your size, etc... But the essence, the story of our Alice, is a unique treat.
Lacey was unfortunate enough to be given the name of Alice, especially as her place is in Wonderland-a place where every Alice is beheaded. Hiding her identity, she starts studying magic and attend weird courses, all the time trying to move on from her boyfriend's death and trying even more to wrap her head around the madness. However, she found her place, as it seems, and maybe, just maybe, her heart will open up again..
There are so many academy books out now I am getting truly selective, but this one is a great choice. The author wields the words with brilliant skills, navigating the plot with great pace and escalating the tension high, while keeping the reader emotionally engaged and supplying them with magical world full of wonders and oddities. To say I enjoyed the book is a huge understatement, and I want to see 'Lacey' very soon again.

Loved this audiobook! 😍🐇🍵

If you love Wonderland + Academy, this is for you. (See warning below before you get attached though!)

This book totally saved my from my epic book slump. Hats off to the audiobook narrator. All of the character voices were very unique, and it made for a fun, easy listen.

The story itself was imaginative with great worldbuilding. All the good stuff is here... teacup duels, magical baking, an elemental vorpal sword, dragon jabberwockies and a talking, prophetic rose. The underlying mystery and Wonderland resistance was a good addition. Also, liked the grounding of the story in Lacey's troubled past (a school shooting where she lost her boyfriend and a life of seeing things that *shouldn't* be there).

Warning: While I loved this book, the series appears to have been abandoned. There is no ending. 😭 (If Melanie Karsak sees this review, I'm prepared to start a letter writing campaign!! 💌😂)

Not your typical Wonderland

This is not your typical Alice story. Once you start reading or listening to this you will be swept away and caught up in the mystery and intrigue surrounding it. I really enjoyed it this version and I promise that no fairies, rabbits or any other magical creatures had a hand with my decision to write this review 😉.

The narrator does an amazing job with the different characters. I really enjoyed listening to her.

Wonderland Academy is an enchanting, dark story with plenty of whimsy. Lacey is whisked into a magical world where the truth is dangerous. This story is well written and had some Harry Potter vibes.

I enjoyed listening to this on Audible. Kristin James did a good job portraying Lacey.

So most of you already know how much I dislike Alice in Wonderland stories. Usually when I find out it is a retelling of it, I put it down and move on. Not that Alice in Wonderland isn’t a great story, but it is just too complicated and too much symbolism for me sort through when I usually read to escape real life. Also, there is just something about the original that can’t be beat…Until NOW!!!

You ask, “how did you pick this one up then?” So I had been following Melanie for quite sometime and actually picked up one of her Harvesting Series books, not knowing it was a zombie thriller…What a mistake. I didn’t listen to more than may 45 minutes of that one. But I really wanted to read or listen to a book of hers so when I saw she was coming out with Wonderland Academy, I picked it up on Audible with one of my credits. I just told myself, it can’t be that bad and the story actually sounded intriguing. The narrator is awesome–I binge listened to this one through work, house cleaning and driving to and from places. It was great, it kept me entertained and I was dying to know all the secrets the rabbit knew. I felt kind of like a kid again.

Melanie gives us a rich cast of characters with slight twists from the original version and new ones to bring some more relevance to the story. Also, there is symbolism around each corner; whether it’s a reference to Alice in Wonderland or to something else, she brings it alive and makes you rethink everything you thought you knew about the tale. Finally, the scenery is so lush and well described I felt like I was right in the middle of this fantastical campus learning all these amazing tea cup spells. I want to start carrying a teacup around just in case I get pulled into Wonderland.

Alice comes to Wonderland Academy because of her relationship to the first Alice and at a time when she is vulnerable and not sure of how worthwhile her life is since she lost the love of her life. Yes she’s in her teens, but still he was her soulmate. So she suddenly finds herself whisked away to this mysterious school where time and space seem to mean nothing and where people often lose their heads for their lineage. Alice finds herself quite popular in this new world and is a bit mystified by it all. Then the Heir to Hearts and a handsome bad boy both start taking notice of her. It’s definitely hard to say “No” to either of them even though she is heartbroken. She begins to find solace with them both and thinks she’s finally going to be able to move on.

Unfortunately, as all good things do, Alice realizes too late she is being used in a horrendous way that could get her head cut off. So we get a cliffhanger, of which I absolutely hate. I’m still giving this 5 of 5 and it may make my Top 10 List yet. We will have to wait and see. It has given me a new lease on happiness with Alice in Wonderland. It has all the intrigue, symbolism and make believe I remember from the first iteration. I hope Melanie is able to keep it up in future books because she is spot on with a winner!!

Just putting this out there--I am a huge Alice in Wonderland freak. I lurve Alice and everything Wonderland. I have copies of the books in other languages. I collect figurines. I have commissioned artwork.

HUGE. ALICE. FREAK!

Having this passion for the Lewis Carroll novels I either crazy love or absolutely loathe the treatment other authors give to the lore of this magical world. It’s easy to misinterpret the archetypes Carroll fashioned his characters causing the retelling to slaughter something I feel is sacred. But this book Melanie Karsak has written is brilliant.

Also Karsak’s Alice and I coincidentally share a very similar name, mine Ali Lucia Crean (pronounced crane) and hers Alice Lacey Crane; therefor FIVE STARS!

No, really now.

Lacey Crane is crazy. Not only a rumor, it’s been institutionally certified. PTSD might drive someone to do desperate things but it won’t explain away all the imaginary friends (and enemies) Lacey has in her head. The mermaid in the river, the dapper Victorian gentleman with a compulsive disorder of his own, and the corn maze hallucination that mocks her for thinking that this world is even where she belongs are as real to her as they aren’t really there for her friends and family. What is a not-so funny aside is the least-with-this-world person in her life, her grandmother who is senile as hell, is the one who packed her bags for her next trip to an even weirder institution.

Swept away through a strange black dot on her living room floor she is suddenly having her new school schedule crafted by an otter. Better yet her ‘dorm’ advisor is a fairy, she’s taking home economics with a Prince, learning how to wield a sword by a tiger, and the tattooed bad boy she doesn’t want to notice just took her to see unicorns. Surreal? Maybe, but definitely possible. Living without coffee? Hmmm... that is going to be a hard one with which to come to terms.

The politics In this Wonderland are more dire than Lacey recalls from the books. The previous Alice is accused of destroying the realm generations ago. Since then all other Alice’s are to be executed directly leaving Lacey in a pickle. But there is an entire empire that was wiped from Wonderland history by the Kingdom of Hearts, and the Red Queen in this world is willing to crush her son with the weight of her evil. Is Lacey the only one who sees salvation in affaires d'cour?

And that tattooed Irishman? She is trying really hard not to notice him. But his secrets might be as deadly as having the name Alice.

I loved this freaking book. I cannot wait until book two. I’ve also put my money in investments of the two anthologies Karsak has titles in so I can see the evil Princesses tale and the backstory to the hot tattooed guy--the one with which Lacey is not completely smitten.

It was the unicorns. You can’t help but make cow eyes to a guy who loves coffee and knows where they keep the unicorns.

I got to listen to this book at the courtesy of the author in exchange for an honest review. It took me a little longer to get into this one, and it was an entertaining listen all around. Kristin James was an awesome narrator, she’s very talented, and definitely makes this worth one of your audible credits.

Melanie Karsak does a fabulous job of enveloping the reader/listener in the world of Wonderland, and everything definitely fits! It’s all pretty bonkers, with my favorite twist of typical story objects being teamancy. I love it! It’s so quintessentially Wonderland.

Lacey is a very likable and compassionate character, although she has a very, very dark past. Seeing her overcome that throughout the story is neat to watch.

Speaking of which, it’s only fair to mention that the first several chapters of the book are very dark, and deal with suicide attempts and a school shooting. I don’t like to give spoilers, but those can be triggering, and you should know about it up front. The story is about her coming to terms with what happened, and starting to actually move on with her life. So, it’s really about hope and the courage to move on.

The cast of supporting characters is wonderful, and the love interest is definitely worth ogling. I’m always a sucker for a man with an accent. Of course, the cheshire cat is so good, you can’t have a Wonderland story with him. I wish he was real.

In terms of action and romance, it’s not the main focus in this tale. I think future installments of the series will see a lot more action, but this book is very much about developing the characters and the future direction the story will take. There is a healthy dose of mystery, and more than a little intrigue in the form of blooming rebellion. So while there isn’t necessarily a great deal of fighting and action, there is still plenty to keep you entertained.

I give this four stars because unless you love Alice in Wonderland stories, you will probably have trouble getting into this. While I enjoyed this, it’s not going to make it to my favorites, just because I’m not quite that into Wonderland reimaginings. I do think she did a beautiful job of recreating that world, and the scenery was excellent. If you are a hard core Wonderland fanatic, you’re sure to love this one.

First things first (I'm the realest): I received an Advance Review Copy from the author; I'm reviewing said ARC of my own free will, without influence from tiny bottles reading "Drink Me" or impatient rabbits.

I ate this book like it was a little tea cake on a table full of kale. I tried to read slowly so that I could prolong finishing it; I forced myself to hide my kindle so I could at least space it out to two days. Much like cake, I loved this book! (Cake exception: carrot. No. But I'll lick the frosting.)

The concept of Wonderland Academy is fresh among the myriad takes upon Alice, but also maintains the integrity of the majority of the original Carroll telling. Those details that have changed slightly do so in a manner that is authentically plausible and won't offend any die-hard Alice-heads out there. The story moves quickly and smoothly. There is a traumatic event that is referred to in memories, which is unfortunately very relevant to present-day (see book description), and I think the subject matter is dealt with extremely well. It's not graphic nor sensationalist but lamentably fits into the story seamlessly, though that's a "world" problem, not a book problem.

And then there is the snark. Melanie Karsak is a Snark Alchemist. She has the snark recipe perfected and brings enough for the whole class. (No peanuts.) I've read several of her books and she walks the snark line well in all of them. I find myself relating more to [Alice] Lacey Crane more than the historic. Lacey is Alice, upgraded.

On a personal note, I was really excited to be chosen to recieve an ARC. I thoroughly loved Melanie's (may I call you Melanie?) steampunk take on Alice, which was filled with Wonderlandish easter eggs. It's obvious that Melanie knows her Wonderland shit.

Verdict: EAT THIS BOOK! (but read it first)

Wonderland Academy isn’t just any college and Melanie Karsak isn’t just any author, both are exceptional! This is an exciting new trilogy in a Wonderland as imagined by no one else. Grab the first book and you’ll be hooked.

(Alice) Lacey Crane has been in the mental hospital for the past 3 days, involuntary commitment. It has really been an accident when she took too many pills, this time. But when you have a history, too many people just start to think you’re crazy. Even as Lacey is leaving the hospital, she starts seeing things no one else does, like the man in a Victorian suit with a top hat. Not only is he outside the hospital waving at Lacey and pointing to his pocket watch but he is also outside her house right after she gets home.

This really isn’t unusual for Lacey. She has been seeing people no one else could all her life. It was okay when she was young and everyone just referred to them as imaginary friends, not so much now.

Trying to fix her grandma, who has early Alzheimer’s, Lacey finds her grandma behaving stranger than normal. In fact, she insists Lacey is going on a trip and has packed her a suitcase, claiming Lacey is late. Then there is an envelope from somewhere called Wonderland Academy her grandma keeps giving her. Lacey has no intention of going to college after the disastrous school shooting her senior year. Yet her mom keeps sending off applications. This is probably just another one!

That’s what Lacey thinks until a hole opens in the floor beneath her feet and she finds herself in the magical land of Wonderland, where the most important rule is that no one named Alice can enter without being beheaded. There’s no way back home and this is like no college Lacey ever dreamed of!

Another book where the cover doesn't communicate the sophistication of the book and gives off the deceptive vibe of "yet another slightly trashy YA novel that is fun to read yet entirely forgettable"...because Wonderland Academy was anything but: it was an absolute delight to read, a diamond of a book that I could have easily devoured twice the length without blinking and still wanted more.

Sure, the underlying trope is familiar: girl finds out she has magical powers and is whisked away to attend a school of magic where she quickly becomes embroiled in a love triangle and deeper political rivalries. But the execution of the story was breathtaking: the author has such a vivid imagination that she quickly weaved a world like no other that we've seen before. Based on Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, this book does more than just throw obscure references at the source material every now and then: instead, it lives and breathes Wonderland with the same wacky nonsense and characters. I've never wanted to meet a Cheshire Cat more than now.

The flavours of tea, for example, and the transportation systems and the weapons and the political segmentation and the classes and the creatures and the food and the...everything! It's really cleverly done, a unique take on magic in a time where we thought we'd seen it all. But have you ever seen teacup duelling before? You bet you haven't! But by the time you've read Wonderland Academy, you'll wonder how you could have ever doubted the utility of carrying a teacup and saucer in a holster on your hip.

"Furious, I turned and headed across campus. Someone had to put a stop to this. Someone had to make it right. But first, I needed to drag that someone off a jabberwocky."

I will start this off by saying that I love everything Wonderland/Alice related and I am so impressed with this re-telling and how the premise is a spin off of an Academy and students are from the different sects. I freaking love the thought process behind the book and story line!

Lacey- real name Alice- has been through the ringer. Her boyfriend died in a tragic way and she has been taking up residence in a psych ward. She was not expecting when she got home to receive a letter that throws her straight into the heart of Wonderland and telling her that she has received a scholarship to the prestigious Academy. She is only given 2 warnings- she needs to keep her real name close to her and try to keep her head because all is not what it seems in Wonderland and it looks like change is coming.

These characters are well thought out and obviously a little mad. The integration between Lewis Carroll's story and what we see is exciting and informative. Even without knowing much about Wonderland, Melanie lays out the groundwork for the reader to receive all the information that they should know, but of course when they should know it. I am so intrigued to see what is going to happen in the next book and excited to see what is going to happen next.

All in all I recommend this book to anyone that is a little mad about Wonderland or things that are a bit weird as well as Young Adult books. 5 stars for sure from me!

PS: Thank you to Melanie Karsak and Xpresso Book Tours for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review!

Wonderland Academy is a fun, fresh retelling of Alice in Wonderland. If you're like me and tend to obsess over all things Alice, you'll want to grab a copy as soon as possible.

Lacey (aka Alice) is thrust into the world of Wonderland one fateful day and sent to learn at Wonderland Academy. Having no idea if she's going crazy or really living in this magical new world, she decides to roll with the punches and make the most of it. The only thing is, there are people in Wonderland who will do anything to stop Lacey if they ever discover her true name. Off with her head, indeed.

Now, I don't want to spoil things (and I know I will without meaning to), so I'm just going to say this: I absolutely loved this book, and I wish I could crawl into the pages and live in this version of Wonderland too.

The characters are both familiar and uniquely different. I rather liked the Cheshire cat. And Professor Warg was pretty nifty too.

The world building is fantastic. I loved the creativity of the Kingdoms, and I could easily visualize each location that Lacey went to as she learned more about Wonderland Academy.

The plot is nicely paced, and I found myself eagerly flipping through, trying to uncover all of the mysteries that resided within.

Secrets abound within Wonderland Academy, which keeps readers on their toes. You'll want to keep reading until the very end (which is a cliffhanger), and after you finish the last page, you'll be waiting impatiently for more.

4.5 stars from me!

Let's start with some harsh truths.

1. I loved Melanie Karsak's Chasing the Star Garden, but I have struggled with her recent works.
2. This cover certainly proves the old mantra, "don't judge a book by its cover." I absolutely would not have ever picked this book off a shelf. It does not do this story justice. At all.
3. I am super leery of fairy tale retellings (especially super overdone ones like Alice in Wonderland) and am super picky about them.

Now for why all those points don't matter after reading Wonderland Academy.

I signed up for the author's newsletter with the continual hope that she is going to announce the conclusion of the "Airship Racing Chronicles." I am still really hopeful. Her last newsletter managed to hook me with her enthusiasm for this new project and a sample chapter. Enough that I requested an ARC...and I'm glad I did.

This is an excellent blend of Carroll and Disney. It's an Alice retelling that absorbs all the lore and embraces the heart of the fairy tale. The whimsy and color really lit up my imagination and made it an absolute joy to read. I was never happy when I had to put the book down and eager to pick it back up again.

I don’t think I have ever read a story quite like this one. It is such a magical play on a traditional story that it never felt old or tired! The way the story is woven was fresh and enthralling! I did not want to put this down, but needed to at times because I felt myself getting a bit too excited, LOL.

This author as a way about her writing, it is addictive and playful; has snark and humor, yet always manages to blend (flawlessly) my childlike need for adventure and my adult need for wonderful characters. The imagination and depth this author managed to incorporate into this story is beyond anything I could have imagined myself! I loved the classes the character took and would really; really love my own tea cup!

Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime and hold on to your jabberwocky. This wild ride is worth every page, every missed adulting moment and every minute of sleep! I received an ARC and am leaving an honest review; I also purchased a copy for my favorite’s library.

This isn't your typical Wonderland fairytale retelling, it's darker, more nightmare than any daydream!! The flashbacks are disturbing and dark and raw! This is reality, it's quite the emotional journey! This will take you to unpleasant places and push boundaries and you'll hold on tightly as this pulls you along. This Wonderland is filled with intrigue and lies. This academy places foe and friend beside you. In a world where being an Alice is an immediate death sentence, Lacey is in danger of losing her head. She is faced with a whole new reality that just maybe she isn't as insane as she's always believed. She has to keep her identity secret as she meets new people and creatures. The classes in this are spectacular! We get to see a bit of how Wonderland magic works and in the reasoning as to why the students must train so diligently. This is a must read for any Wonderland fan and if you love academy series this will lure you in as well. It's stunning and brilliant and the surprises don't stop!

I will admit, I am an Alice fan. I have read a number of Wonderland stories, some good, some bad. This was a truly fun read. Karsak does a great job of paying tribute to the original while still making the story her own. With a place as well known as Wonderland, that's not easy.
Following this Alice, better know as Lacey, as she uncovers the secrets surrounding her and the political turmoil she has fallen into was thrilling. Every time Alice was in The History of Wonderland class all I could think of was the phrase "history was written by the winners " and Karsak seems determined to prove that idiom right.
Don't expect any time of conclusions at the end, some connections are confirmed but the cliff hanger ending leaves the story wide open with some characters in serious concerns for their survival chances. I look forward to the rest of this YA trilogy. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.

Sooo glad I had a storm day to gobble this book up. So much fun, so much whimsy, and even a Wonderland recipes, modified for us Overthere-ians. :D

Alice--call her Lacey--has an exclusive invite to Wonderland Academy. She's probably crazy. After all, she only just got released from a psych ward. But Wonderland, real or not, is a place where she can get a fresh start, where she can learn magic, where she can be someone important.

If she can keep her head, that is.

I love this modern continuation of the old Alice in Wonderland stories, and I love the twists on the old characters with this whole new cast. The world really is a wonder, with classes like Teamancy and Jabberwocky riding, food like blinkberry scones and black and white untea, and magic around every corner. Just don't trip over the cheshire cat. ;) Oh, and did I mention there's more than a few very attractive men involved? :D

Can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the series!

Alice for the 21st Century. Makes me Believe in Impossible Things

Lacey (aka Alice) is in a world of trouble. She escapes the absolute of insanity of her own life and world to enter one that is both better and worse at the same time. And her name may be the death of her.

Melanie Karsak has updated a classic tale with everything it needs for a new generation. Teenage angst, new friendships, magic, fantastic beasts and solid mysteries of a true magic kingdom. A kingdom that is alive with talking flowers, invisible cats and dragons (jabberwocky). College is always exciting but this Academy takes it to a new level.

Recovering from the tragic death of her beloved boyfriend and a life that seems insane, Lacey is literally dropped into Wonderland Academy. What she will learn may help her cope. As long as she doesn’t lose her head.

Do you ever get to the end of the book and let out a small shriek of annoyance at the cliffhanger ending even though you know that this is the first book in a series and this writer is a master at leaving you in the middle of the action? No? Just me then. The fact that I'm at work and everyone now thinks I should be a resident of Wonderland notwithstanding, this was a great first book. I love Alice in Wonderland! I love revisionist history! So I'm tiptoeing though the judgmental talking tulips at a revisionist Wonderland that takes place 2 generations after the familiar tale! If you are looking for a fantasy with a familiar (but still fresh) world, complicated characters with their own agendas, and the urge to feed characters something with vegetables (or at least the guise of healthiness), this is your book! Malanie Karsak has hooked me into yet another amazing series!

This is the first book in a new series by this author, and I really enjoyed it. Combining a magical academy story with Alice in Wonderland retelling, it's a fab concept, and the author has really put a lot of thought into every little detail - even the drinks and food are great! - and it makes it easy to feel like you are really there. I loved the story, and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys fairytale and classics retellings, magical academy stories, or is just looking for something a little bit different to read. I can't wait for the next instalment to see what happens next!
Ps there is a prequel story introducing Princess Amber and her family (and giving you a bit more insight into her character) available in a boxset of short magical academy prequel stories called Tales Out of School. And the best thing? It's currently free!

"I recieved an Advanced Review Copy of this book."
Wow I loved this book. It kept me interested the whole read. I was mad when I got to the end because the cliffhanger and I was so into the book I didn't know I was close to the end. I cannot wait for the next book. I loved "Lacey" her character may be confused but she is still a brave souls and has a fantastic caring heart. Even though everything is new she believes in doing what's right. Corbin... Well for 1 he sounds hot and broody. I love the bond they created with one another. Also I love what we found out about them from the rose at the end. Also I know that the heart queen is going to burn the External Rose because what she knows and means. That makes me so sad to hear because she seems like a main character now.

This book has become my new favorite Wonderland story!
Wonderland Academy is full of wonder, mischief, action, riddles, prophecies and mysteries. The characters are extraordinary and the story to die for!

Lacey has landed where all the mad people are. She is not sure why she ended up in a place that has only ever existed in a story book. There is a war brewing right under the surface and it seems she’s right in the middle of it. It seems staying under the radar will be a lot harder than she ever thought…

I loved this book! I would actually get unreasonably mad when I had to put the book down to do my mundane things. I could not get enough! I was especially upset when I reached the end. I need the next book asap!

Wonderland Academy was really a great retelling of Alice in Wonderland.

Getting into the academy is quite easy.

You must be a little mad.
You must follow the white rabbit.
You must find the key to enter Wonderland.

The only exeption, is that the academy never let in anyone who's name is Alice by the order of the Queen of Hearts for she will lose her head.

So when Alice "Lacey" Crane is suddendly admit there with not a lot of explanation she must be extra careful that no one find her true name.

Only one problem is that she quickly become friend with the Queen of Hearts son, Aiden.

I really have love the first book in this serie. Can't wait to see whats to come next since in Wonderland no Alice is save.

I have received an arc of this book by Melanie Karsak.
