So far my 13 (now 14) year old daughter has read all 4 books in this series out loud to me. It's her favorite series of books! She's pretty obsessed with them and the game :). So our reading times have become some of my favorite times for us to spend together. That is probably going to biased my opinions of the books just a little, to be perfectly honest.
That being said, I enjoyed this 4th book in the series the most so far! I think I would have enjoyed it even with just reading it on my own. The mysterious elements were more interesting in this book, and I enjoyed the character development much more.
Highly recommend for middle grade readers who love light horror and mystery stories.
+2 stars: to be honest I wasnt sure what they could possibly do after the insane ending of book 3. Anime flashback right before a character dies on steroids was not what I was expecting but it works here. +1 star: Halloween! 🎃 👻 +1 star: my son, my progeny, my heir apparent +1 star: the scariest thing I've ever seen ride malfunctionwise is from a water park so it tracks that the disaster the Petersons were running from was a water ride. Good research. Based on a true story but just different enough to not be disrespectful.
I chose this rating because I really like the book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes suspense\thriller. (Read the 1st three before this one!) I liked the suspense! I didn't really dislike anything.
It might have been better if I had read the books in order, but as it stands, the prologue is never addressed later in the book and the end isn't an ending but an abrupt stop in the middle of things. Also, the whole thing is excessively angsty.
Inconsistent with the previous books, sorry but that kind of writing error is a big no for me. The story is supposed to be a prequel, and earlier books establish an event to be 5 years before it. This acts as if the characters are the same age as they were in previous despite the timeline being 5 or 6 years in the past. :/
I really enjoyed reading this book for various reasons... 1. It was the perfect level of dialogue and perfect amount of pages for my skill level. 2. It was very interesting because you're seeing a kid moving from germany, and adapting to a small town he just moved into. 3. It ended on a cliffhanger so it got me hooked to read more! 4. And, it was filled with awesome mysteries!
This book was amazing because it was really captivating and it was just a fantastically written book that i thought might have been even better that the others
