Sometimes, as is often the case with magic, things go awry. Sevana’s quite accustomed to magical explosions, fires, and curses in her daily life. People abruptly appearing inside of Big from a different planet? Well, she has to admit, that’s a first.

Deepwoods Guild specializes in traveling, but with Grae at the helm, they’ve never had a path fail. Until now. For the first time in his professional career, Grae has no idea where they are or how to get them back home again.

But maybe, if the Pathmakers and Artifactors can put their heads together, they can figure it out.

Ever since I was a toddler, I have been making up stories. I’d entertain anyone willing to listen to my wild fantasies about unicorns and gargoyles and amazing people. At 13, I started writing the stories down. At 23, I finished the first book that was, in my opinion, good enough to publish.

I spent three years trying to publish my book, Jaunten, the old fashioned way. The problem was my story was outside of the norm for young adult fantasy – it didn’t have vampires or the supernatural in it, it was clean enough to earn a PG rating, and there wasn’t any dark overlord to defeat. No literary agent would pick it up because it didn’t fit the “fantasy formula” that all of the popular books did.

I put the idea of having my book published off to the side for a while as I finished a Bachelors in English at Middle Tennessee State University. But as I worked on my third degree, the idea of being published came back to me. This time, while working as a paralegal, I had a better grasp of the laws involved of doing self-publishing. For six months, I did a great deal of research in how to do self-publishing the debt-free way.

It was hard. I was working full time, going to school full time, and living on my own. I never really had a break. I was always working on something. At times I felt like my brain would just go into meltdown from having to learn so many different things to make my idea work.

After six months, I thought I knew enough to publish myself. I put Jaunten out as an ebook, created a website and forum so that fans could communicate with me, and spread the word as best I could. Within three months, I was selling internationally. Within six months, I was making enough to quit my day job and sit at home, writing full time.

After six months of writing, publishing, and building up a reputation, I started to be approached by other people wanting to emulate what I did. I soon realized that there was a niche out there waiting for me to fill it—a place where original fiction could be published and released into the world. As of February 2012, I started my own publishing house, called Raconteur House. Since that point I have signed on four additional authors (not including yours truly) and am attracting more in a steady stream.

I have continued to write and publish the rest of the series through my House. When I’m not writing or editing, I like to go out into the community and give presentations of how to be an author. It’s actually really fun to talk to all of these people who want to be authors. Most people think that you can’t make any money being an author—actually, you can. And you can do quite well. It’s just a matter of working really hard, having a little talent, and knowing how to market your books. All I’m doing with these presentations is giving people the know-how to make their dreams come true.

While it’s true that you don’t need a college education to be an author, I encourage everyone to be as educated as possible. I have a lot of experience and education that most people don’t, and that’s what gives me an edge in writing. I’ve lived in places as obscure as Tehachapi, California and other places as large as Salt Lake City, Utah. I hold three different college degrees. I practice two different martial arts. I think I’ve tried every life experience that came my direction. All of that is incorporated into my books, and that’s what gives reality to my worlds and characters.

Even if I abruptly stop selling books tomorrow—which I don’t see happening—I would still continue to write. Creating characters and worlds is that much fun. Once you start, you become quickly addicted.

The two worlds collide!!!
I had the biggest smile on my face reading this book. I had such a happy fuzzy feeling getting a new story with Sevanna, seeing the Deepwoods guild discovering a world so different from theirs, with some much possiblities mostly because of the magic but also because how their societies are different. It feels like even though they spend such a short time in Sevanna's world, they learned so much about what's possible and they will keep it with them and maybe make their own world better :)
Oh, and since it's two years after the last Deepwoods book, we can see how the relationship developped, and I'm just so 😍😍😍

Just as enjoyable and entertaining as the full length books. I especially enjoyed the complete lack of angst and tension in this series. In very stressful times it’s so nice to read books with interesting characters and fun adventures where nothing terrible ever happens. Really hope the author writes more in this series.

I mean, this was OK. Would probably have enjoyed it more if I'd read the Deepwoods Saga but it was perfectly adequate. I usually enjoy "slice of life" stories, but this one was just a bit too bland for my tastes.

This story did make me wonder though, because of an offhand comment, about some engaged people having separate rooms, if all of Raconteur's stories are set in fantasy worlds where sex before marriage is unacceptable, and that are somewhat conservative, cause I don't think I've seen a queer background character anywhere either.
But, I'll have to read more to figure that out, I did find the difference between the Artifactor world and Deepwods somewhat fascinating, it is clear racism doesn't really exist in the Artifactor universe, but is quite prevalent where the Deepwoods crew comes from. If I ever get around to reading deepwoods I might reread this to see how I feel then.

Content:

Language: Maybe one swear word? Mild.

Violence: None.

Sexual: Mild. Married couples go to hot springs together. Nothing happens, just talking.

Only barely a 3 (because nostalgia for favorite characters)

This is a very short, 55 page book according to my kindle, that features a crossover between Honor Raconteur's Deepwoods characters and her Artifcator characters. It takes place 3 years after the last book of Deepwoods (Fallen Ward) and after Book 2 of the Artifactor series (Dreamer's Curse).

The only spoiler, and it's a small one, is we get to see what Sevana names the wolf cub she's given by Decker at the end of Dreamer's Curse, which I don't think is much of a spoiler really.

While fun to see the Deepwoods crew again, this was pretty...boring? And I'm still salty about the price on this book being 2.99 for 55 pages. That's all I'm saying. I promise.

I was hoping for more info on where the Deepwoods crew is 3 years after the last novella. There really isn't much to report at all. Was a bit disappointing as a read.

A wonderful and whimsical read, crossing over two of the wonderful worlds of Honour Raconteur. A look at Deepwoods two years down the line from the end of their original story, getting a glimpse of life in Robarge and seeing that they are all well and in fact blooming. Sevana of course is as wonderful as ever and welcomes the strangers along with Big, Baby, Grydon and Kip at her side. This was like a treat read into favourite characters lives when they are relaxed. Wonderful, I wish there were more!

I was excited when I discovered there was a crossover as I love the Deepwoods and Artifactor characters. So I was a bit disappointed after I read this. I knew it was a novella and therefore short, but with so many people thrown in, it felt even shorter. In addition, the weirdest people were focused on. I assumed Sevana would get the most attention since she was trying to fix the problem. However, it was Denny, Alex, Hana.. Reading, I felt like one of those horrible parents at their kids' game. "Not everyone has to play, Coach!!"

Just Wonderful

I have been patiently (okay not so patiently) waiting for the next Artifactor story for I'm *pretty* sure 11 years(it feels like it alright?!). Then, to have a story with Deepwords and Sev and her gang, was truly magical. This was definitely something I never knew I needed and loved every word. Honor has done it again! I cant wait for the next short story *wink wink nudge nudge*(I'm pretty sure I can find some chocolate to bribe you with Honor).

Lovely short story

All of my Deepwoods friends are here. They are enjoyable characters in all their varied ways.
They accidentally cross over to the Artifactor world & meet the magic mountain, Baby & the gang. The interactions are fun. The story is light hearted. I'm so tired of grim dark fantasy. I like writing & characters that make me smile. Clean, magical, well written & edited.

You Brought Us Where?

Deepwoods3.5;Artifactor2.5

What a fun and terrifying crossover!

All the crew are there from Deepwoods, and we have Sevana’s core group as well. Big, the sentient mountain, is perhaps the star of the show, enjoying hosting duties in a rare occurrence.

The confluence of events made sense, which is always a challenge in fantastical scenarios. Now, we need more Deepwoods stories…

Fun “crossover” story!

I greatly enjoyed this exploration of how the two world views and cultures and perspectives and magic systems interact between Deepwoods and the Artifactor. Now I wonder if there’s going to be a follow up Deepwoods with this taken into account, cuz that would have quite the potential impact

Anticipation

I REALLY can’t wait for Sevana’s supposed last book! Pins and needles people, Pins and Needles! I loved this crossover. I’ll be rereading it a couple of times wishing the author would kindly hurry up and have the book out in time for my birthday so I can ignore my family for a day. Birthday’s the end of this month by the way. Awesome book!

Finally!

I was so excited to see a crossover of my two favourite series! Honour didn’t disappoint. I only wish this was longer. If you like either of these series then get this book. And if you haven’t read them, then get to it. Deepwoods has such amazing character dynamics, I want more. Artifactor’s main character is interesting herself.

Fantastic

O have missed both the artifactor and the deepwoods series so much and this crossover book between the two was a very welcome read. As always Honor spun a wonderful tale and I loved reading every word. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more of her work.

Excellent short story. I love anything with Sevana in it and it was interesting to seeing a crossover between Honor's two worlds. I've never been interested in reading Deepwoods, but I might now, since I'm curious about the characters from that world, and their stories.

A well-spun story!

I've read crossovers before....or watched a two-part special on TV....But i think this was the best crossover I've read in a very long time!

No war gods stepping in, no superior firepower, no little girls clicking their shoe heels together, and the dogs behaved themselves.

Excellent story!

not fond of short stories.

I am not fond of short stories, I and I had only read the artifact or series, so I did not know the other people. Judging from the short story, I don’t think I would like the other series as well as I do the arbitrator books. Oh well. It was interesting to see to totally separate cultures collide.

Loved it.

I loved this short story. I had not long finished the Artifactor’s series and was particularly pleased to read a new story with those characters in it. I have now decided I definitely need to read Deepwoods too. Fortunately I have the boxed set sitting in my TBR pile as I bought it last week. No prizes will be given for guessing what I’ll be reading next.

Crossover of two of author's series

Deepwater protection team for Caravan's using magical pathways accidentally land in the mountain home of Artifactor who may be able to return them home after researching the problem.
If you know series you will love the crossover story.

Enjoyable

An enjoyable read about a cross over between two enjoyable series written by one of my favorite authors. All in all that was a pleasant hour or so of my life. Well done as usual honor raconteur.

Fun and silly

Not much to say about this. It's a crossover short story, so read the novels first. I've kind of been hoping for another Deepwoods novel, and this story has some developments that might lead to more.

Well written, fun, nice blending of characters from two different series, but way too short. Please read the books in both the Artifactor and the Deepwoods Guild series to fully appreciate the book. Looking forward to more about the characters in both series.

A Fun Short Interlude

Sevana is surprised by visitors from another planet. How to get them home? It was interesting to look at cultural comparisons between the worlds. I of course liked Sevana's snarky personality.

Too short!

Oh how I love a good crossover! Just wish it could have been longer, also I read it in the wrong order. It should be read after all of deepwoods and after the child Prince.

I really loved meeting characters from both series again. The way they interacted was a joy to read. I hope for more short stories of this kind in the future. Honor Raconteur is definitely joining the list of my favourite authors.

Great

Seeing these two groups of characters meet was wonderful and I am glad someone suggested it. It made sense in how it happen and I enjoyed reading this. If you have not read either series, do. Actually all of her series have been entertaining which is a wonderful thing.

Revelations and surprises

The revelation (for me) is that there is a DEEPWOODS series. The surprise is that the strange interplanetary incident showed how very different the worlds of Honor really can be.
Peasant story, and relaxing read.

4.0

This was an interesting short story reconnecting the reader with the characters from Deepwoods as they take a little jaunt inter dimensionally. While I enjoyed it, it would be most enjoyable for those readers who are already familiar with the Deepwoods series.

Only wish it was longer!

Delightful story, blending two crews that just naturally HAD to meet!

Honor excels in bringing light and joy to every story she writes, with her characters always getting little “gifts” from life that are wonderful.
