Spies. Killers. Gentleman knights. Medieval England is about to face the Unholy Trinity.
You read about them in 'Lord of Winter'. Now discover Book One in 2019's exciting new Medieval series!
1200 A.D. - In the time following the death of Richard the Lionheart and the ascension of his brother, John, to the throne of England, a plot against the new king is hatched from an unexpected place – deep within the bowels of The Lateran Palace in Rome. It is rumored that the Pope himself is behind it. It is a plot so dark, and so dastardly, that William Marshal needs men who specialize in dark and dirty games in order to save a king they all hate, yet a king that England desperately needs.
The Marshal needs the men known as The Unholy Trinity -the Executioner Knights.
Sir Maxton of Loxbeare is the leader of this unholy band of cutthroats. A big man with dark hair and dark eyes, Maxton fostered in the finest houses, but there is something unsettling about him. He is a man who easily kills without remorse, and he never questions an order, no matter how unsavory it is. William Marshall tasks Maxton and his comrades with seeking out the papal assassins, and the duty soon becomes a high-stakes game of chess, with checkmate being the life of the King of England.
Enter Lady Andressa du Bose. A great heiress who was cheated out of her inheritance by a conniving aunt, Andressa has spent unhappy and bitter years serving in the convent she was essentially sold to. A chance meeting with Maxton introduces Andressa to a world she wants to be part of, and a man she is greatly attracted to, but in that meeting, she has unknowingly given Maxton a lead on something he very much wants – a clue to who the assassins really are. All signs point to papal operatives. Maxton has a job to do and he’ll use anyone he can to complete it, including the lovely pledge who is increasingly on his mind… and in his heart.
Join Maxton and Andressa in a deadly game of cat and mouse, where all is not what it seems, and even those most devout can sometimes hold a terrible secret. It soon becomes clear that Maxton must make a choice… give in to his feelings for Andressa, or save a king, and with that, England’s sovereignty. It’s a showdown of good against evil, and the power of love against a knight’s sense of duty, in this larger-than-life Medieval Romance.

That is until he comes upon Lady Andressa, who has been living in a convent, sent there by her aunt, who is stealing her inheritance. Filled with suspense, danger and strong emotions that you can feel through the characters, once you start this story you will not be able to stop. Kathryn LeVeque is a master at creating a story that is filled with strong heroes and heroines of legendary proportions that take you through history as never before. A remarkable debut of the Executioner Knights series. Cannot wait for the next.
Kathryn Le Veque never ceases to amaze me. How she unfailingly comes up with such outstanding stories is a mystery to me. But, I am always left with a big smile on my face with each and every book she writes. Oh, the ride along the way is undoubtedly going to be filled with angst, intense emotion, intrigue, sometimes tears and laughter, incredible battle scenes, camaraderie, family and loyalty (just to name a few). But the end result is always the same. I always say "geez, that was SO good!"
I was first introduced to "the Unholy Trinity" in Ms. Le Veque's "Lord of Winter." I remember thinking at the time that she just had to write individual books about the three intriguing lethal loners who worked so well as a team. "By the Unholy Hand" is Sir Maxton of Loxbeare's book. It is an off-the-charts winner and a fabulous start to this new series. There are a lot of puzzle pieces to this tale, with two fabulous, unusual characters taking the lead. Just fabulous!
The other "Executioner Knights" are Kress de Rhydian and Archilles de Dere. To say I cannot wait for their stories would be an understatement. Sigh. ;)
The assassination plot storyline was interesting and it was fun to see some old characters again in this novel, but there was no romantic heat. That part of the story was flat.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋Maxton and Andressa , what a team , and a great start to what looks to be a brilliant series. These two are awesome. He’s tougher than most , a man who knows no fear ,unless Andie is hurt or in trouble, he has seen and done it all , is not afraid to get in there and get the job done , and is in his element when getting Bric McRohans back up . She is meek , mild , and helpful, a lovely sweet young lady . But when she is called to defend and protect her King she is a veritable whirlwind, and doesn’t mind getting imaginative with anything to hand to protect herself . Great book and excellent story. Loved the meeting of all the great minds from LeVeque World , especially Max and Bric , so good .
Sir Maxton of Loxbeare is summoned by William Marshall of a job to stop the killing of King John from the Pope which could throw all of England into turmoil; Maxton and his three other friends known as the Executioner knights takes the job. Maxton and his friends must find out who wants John dead. The job definitely isn’t easy and could cost Maxton everything including his life but he is willing to try. As Maxton is trying to figure out the mystery he meets the hungry starving pledge, Lady Andressa du Bose. Maxton feels drawn to Andressa and decides to help her. In doing so Maxton and Andressa form a sort of friendship and Andressa for some reason comes to trust Maxton. As Maxton gets to know Andressa he finds where she stays St. Blitha-holds some very strange secrets, women also disappear and cruel women are nuns. Maxton thinks there has to be a connection to the starving pledges, the disappearing women, the nuns, the Pope and the plot to kill John isn’t there or is Maxton willing to put his reputation on the line by accusing the wrong people? What a truly amazing book this is! The story is crammed full of mystery, secrets, spies and a sweet romance thrown in. The story is so intricate and wonderful; filled with quite a bit of action never slowing down keeping one glued until the very last page! Sure the story did start off slow but really built up into a pleasing climax that would satisfy anyone! Ms. Kathryn Le Veque just knows how to tell a fantastic tale weaving fictional and non-fictional characters in a way that is pure genius! Even some previous characters from other books made an appearance heightening the story but never taking center stage. Maxton the quiet, brooding, deadly intelligent knight is stealthy and not afraid of killing anyone that will get in his way. Maxton also has a hidden sweet compassionate side that is hard to resist, no wonder Andressa fell for him! He’s really a good guy even with his horrid reputation but there is a redeeming quality about him that just because he is supposed to be bad he isn’t really. Andressa the starving witty heroine is also great too! Sure at first she isn’t portrayed in the best light but when her circumstances come to light then she becomes a winning fighting woman that still manages to see the good in Maxton. This book definitely has staying power that waiting for the other stories of the executioner knights will be well worth the wait!

It's 1200 AD and in the time following King Richard's (The Lionheart's) death, John has taken the throne and a new plot against the King has come to light. It's rumored that the Pope himself is behind it. This plot is so dark, and so horrible, that William Marshal needs men who specialize in these sort of things. Men that will do whatever it takes to protect a king that they all hate, yet a king that England so desperately needs. These men are assassins who will kill assassin's without thought. These men are known as The Unholy Trinity (the Executioner Knights).
Sir Maxton of Loxbeare is the leader of this unholy band of cutthroats. He is a big man with dark hair and dark eyes. He was fostered in the finest houses, but there is something unsettling about him. He kills easy without remorse, and he never questions an order, no matter how disgusting or unsavory it may be. William Marshall gives the job of finding the papal assassins to Maxton and his comrades, but this soon becomes a high stakes game of chess with the death of the king being the checkmate.
Lady Andressa du Bose and a great heiress who was cheated out of her inheritance by her Aunt who sent her to the convent she now lives in. Now she is reduced to wearing second hand old clothes and is left wandering the streets looking for food and being a lowly laundress. She has spent many bitter and unhappy years serving the nuns of St Biltha. One day while looking for food she has a chance meeting with Maxton and he introduces her to a world she wants to be a part of. A world that she should belong to. Now unknowingly she has given Maxton a lead on something he very much wants and that is a clue to who the assassins really are. Every sign points to papal operatives. Maxton has a job to do and he will use anyone he can to complete it including the lovely pledge who is slowly embedding herself in his heart.
This is a game of cat and mouse where all is not what it seams, and even those that are devout can sometimes hold horrible secrets. It soon becomes clear to Maxton he must make a choice. Give in to his feelings for Andressa, or save a king, and with that England's sovereignty.
Kathryn LeVeque gives us a non stop action novel that will have you reading well into the night. You will find Assassins hunting assassins, love, honor, betrayal, bravery, and many more attributes in this amazing novel. Andressa and Maxton has the perfect amount of attraction. This was a wonderful book and I really enjoyed reading it. I can see why they call Ms. LeVeque the queen of medieval becuase this lady truly knows her way around a novel
The story is set in dark tones, much like the evil that is perpetrated against King John by the Pope of Rome. What makes it unfathomable, is not the Pope with his hatred against the King who seeks to change the political scape, but the means by which it will be done. That my good reader, is what will eat at your craw, will repulse you, sicken you and fascinate you.
The Lateran Palace in Rome housed three Knights in lavish style after they returned from the Crusades. These men were renowned killers. They didn’t question the means of execution—very Machiavellian in their views.
When the Pope commanded them to kill their own king of England for his own political agenda, they refused. From lavish treatment to imprisonment, until someone as powerful as the Pope needed their services.
Sir Maxton, the leader of the trio, somewhere between the dungeon and his new job for William Marshal had changed. Those closest to him see it. Can a man who has killed for years without remorse change?
A hapless, yet a beautiful and kind woman, Andressa, resides within the walls of St. Blitha. She comes from wealthy titled parents, both have died leaving her to a guardian aunt who has little scruples in ridding her, simply by housing her in St. Blitha, the local convent. The Mother Abbess has little scruples using the money received monthly for Andressa’s expense to further her own comfort. The nuns are forced to leave the nunnery and steal food. Only those ‘special assistants’ of Mother Abbess have privileges.
But reader there is more, much more divulged as the story unfolds.
Sir Maxton comes upon Andressa while she is out stealing for food. There is some attraction, but he is above all curious as to why a nun is stealing food. Most events in life aren’t a coincidence as serendipity surely abounds. You will be riveted to this compelling story, much like rubbernecking in traffic when there is a gruesome accident. You won’t, no you can’t turn away.
5+ Stars - What a wonderful darker medieval romance! Here we have a tale of various assassins. The church plays an enormous roll from start to finish, but between what is going on is a love that is blossoming around cruel dealings, dangers, lots of intrigue and dark wickedness.
Sir Maxon of Loxbeare is an executioner knight who has been released from captivity and is now going to repay a debt for his release. He literally was run into by a poor urchin, but when he looks closer, he clearly realizes it is a woman who is a postulate from the local Abbey. She intrigues him because of her circumstances at present. As Max finds out there is so much more to her situation that has been truly unfair to the young lady in question. He is on a mission currently, but this postulate is now to become one of his personal missions as well.
Lady Andressa de Bose has had family tragedy dictate her fate and current circumstance because now she has only endured severe personal hardship for quite some time. Living in an Abbey where currently some there are starving, some are cruelly abused and some simply disappear. She has been doing everything she can to survive. She finds herself in a circumstance in the middle of a village where she runs into a huge man who is intimidating. Hopefully, he can understand her explanation if not... she is doomed.
I can highly recommend this story. As I mentioned before, this tale is somewhat dark, but it makes for a different, intriguing and wonderful romance while introducing us to a new trio of executioner knights. Now, I look forward to the next stories in this series of the Unholy Trinity. This author never disappoints. She continues to create magnificent stories with intriguing plots that entertain me, the reader, and fulfills my time with enjoyment.
Sir Maxton of Loxbeare is one of England's most skilled Knights. Since the end of the Crusades he and his friends have been mercenaries, sometimes taking jobs nobody else could do. However there is a line he will not cross. Lady Andressa du Bose has been sent to a convent by her Aunt , so the woman can use her inheritance. The convent has an evil Mother Superior. Her nuns live in constant fear and hunger. This is a fantastic book, absolutely filled with political intrigue, danger and great characters. Our hero is not a good man but he seems to be growing a conscience. Our terrified heroine seems timid, but has got nerves of steel. I won't say too much more about the plot because I don't want to spoil it for you. Just know that before you start reading you should make sure you lock everybody out and make yourself comfortable, because you will NOT be able to put it down. I was awake until 1:30am to finish it. I loved every page and can't wait to read the next in the series.
Uh. This group of knights was the biggest gaggle of gossips ever. “Don’t tell anyone, especially this guy,” actually means, “Hey, tell everyone and make sure to include the guy I specifically said not to tell.” Also, every single thing that happened was over explained. The plot to kill the king and all of its excruciating details were repeated so often, that I was able to skim quite a bit of this book as every character in the dang thing was told of it. All. Of. It. But again, no one can know. Worst assassins ever.
The story itself was ok, but the editing of this book was terrible. Honestly all the typos and errors completely distracted me from fully engaging in the book.
Book seems to be marketed as more of a romance and while there is a bit of a romance in the story there's also so much attention to all these different knights and their descriptions and who they work for, it feels like the couple is there to move the story along and that it's not about them as much. I did enjoy the story, the premise was very interesting and I did skim through quite a few pages that were descriptions of knights and really enjoyed the epilogue. I might pick up one of the other books in the series in the future as it was easy to skim through and generally enjoyable.
Andressa du Bose is a pledge who is out looking for food when she is caught stealing a loaf of bread. Maxton is part of the Knights they call the Executioner Knights and they are commissioned to save the King, little did they know that Andressa will have a part in their mission..... Such a great read
This is my first read by Kathryn Le Veque, popped up on Amazon as a book I might be interested in. It did look good! The title, plus the Executioner knights as what it was about. So, pre-prologue chapter, there is a forced, maybe rape, sort of consensual sexual scene. Wow! I don't think any other reviewers have mentioned this. I almost didn't keep reading. Then, it fast forwards to several months later and we meet the knights who are so lethal, dangerous, paid assassins that they have that title the Executioner Knights. There is lots of back history about their time in prison and their relationships, I felt like there might have a previous book with all the back history and talk of of all their nasty deeds. Eventually, Maxton, one the knights, meets Andressa, the pledge to a convent. He ends up feeding her, she is starving, but she keeps going back to the horrid place. Long story short, she is there because her greedy aunt sent her there, she is actually a heiress. I am reading, reading, hoping for more action, or more romance. No, a lot of time is spent with the Executioner Knights sitting around tables in pubs or at a house talking about who wants the king killed and how it might happen and how they are going to protect him. What struck me as odd is these huge fearsome, lethal knights are mostly not so much. They talked about such private info with people around! Everybody talked about who wanted the king killed and why and by whom. I kept reading... hoping for more action, some fighting, maybe Maxton would spirit Andressa away and seduce her or something. Nope! They kept letting her go back! What!? I kept reading, wanting to read what happened in the end! It did keep my attention, the mounting build up of who and when to kill the king, seemed like everyone was aware of the plot, not really a secret. I really cringed when I found out how old Maxton was to Andressa's young 20. I eventually realized that the story was taking place mostly within a few days! Maxton suffered from insta-lust but we didn't read about any kind of relationship, other than his desire to marry her and take her to her ancestral home, like a day after meeting her, until the epilogue, and that didn't really fit with the rest of the story. It was odd. There were several surprises that caught me off guard, but then the author didn't really deal with them in depth. Maxtons band of brothers are always around discussing the situation regarding Andressa and the king, but not really doing too much else, kinda boring. There was one time when they showed their talent for killing and it was over the top gruesome. I don't know if I will read the next one. I gave this a three star because the plot kept moving and I did want to see how the conflict and relationship was resolved.
Kathryn le Veques, has started a new series with her knights of old, she's bringing new characters to life but also bringing favorites back too. In The Unholy Hand, she has three knights that fight the fights that no one else will do, or just can't do they look for those that will. In comes the first and main plot, the church has asked these knights to go and kill their king but doesn't give the reason why, so do they do it??? The second plot is once the knights get home they are asked to find who is if not already there that is trying to get to the king, and to stop them, so do they do it??? The the main knight meets a pledge, a very hungry pledge who steals so that she can eat and she has this knight thinking about things, when he learns where she lives and that the Mother is evil, that other pledges disappear when the Mother is angered, what can be do??? All this and more Kathryn le Veques has you putting off everything else til you can read the whole book to find out what happens. In every book that I've read by Kathryn, I have not been able too out it down. The whole book has me reliving the characters as if they are alive and real. As I read each page it's like I can see, hear and feel each of what is happening. See the town, streets, the tavern. Hear the laughter, the fighting and the running of the characters. Feeling the punches, the hitting even the caress that the knight gives the pledge. Kathryn has a way of writing and telling her characters stories that will just have you begging for more information about them, more stories of the families of those characters. More happy endings for even the sub characters. Kathryn le Veques is a wonderful talented author and you will fall in love with her knights like I did.💕
What an amazing story that takes place over 4 days. As I have read 100% of her books, it brings back the memories of the other characters. I give a 5 star to all of her books as she is my all time fav author. If I had a single complaint it would be to keep the entire series together vs bringing back a character from a book read 2 years ago. It makes me want to go back and read the other books again. Such feeling into the characters Max and Andressa. It makes you think back in history and wonder if those events really could have happened and I’m sure they really did. I love all the characters and can’t wait to read about Callen next.
Tis unfortunate that I own 14 books in this series and just could not make it past the first few books. Definitely not a writing style that I enjoyed. To each their own I suppose.
I absolutely loved the story of Maxton and Andressa! Maxton was the leader of an elite group of knights who became known as The Executioner Knights for each had a special skill used during their time spent fighting in The Lavant. Kathryn Le Veque writes amazing, deeply romantic, stories of love that break through the troubles, fears, and self doubts the characters experience. She takes you back through time to the stories location. I’m glad we weren’t left where we met Andressa. This series seems as if it is going to be a bit different than Kathryn’s latest books. I love the characters, her creativity and talent in forming the plot or storyline of this romance, and all of the emotional entanglements that make it a 5 Star Romance. I’d classify it as a must read that will keep you glued to your chair until the mystery unfold before you. I’m eagerly awaiting a Book 2. 😍
3 to 3.5 stars. The story was entertaining enough, and quite fast-moving, so it carried you along. Unfortunately the main characters felt a little flat to me, and I didn't really feel drawn into their lives. The timeline was also a bit ridiculous. A lot of the action of the story seemed to happen within one day, and the famed 'executioner knight' Maxton offered marriage to Andressa after barely meeting her/knowing her.
The MMC was your typical (for these kinds of books) brawny medieval knight. He'd been on crusade, had (unjustly) spent time in prison, and was in the process of reforming from being a stone-cold killer to a man who had feelings and was ready to consider marriage with Andressa. Considering Maxton's past, fortunately there wasn't too much violence in the book.
The MFC Andressa was a pledge (aka novice or postulant) in a nunnery. Formerly a well-to-do lady, once Andressa was orphaned, a wicked aunt had placed her in the nunnery with a plan for her to stay there forever while the aunt enjoyed all of Andressa's substantial goods and chattels. But this nunnery was a hotbed of corruption and evil. The pledges barely had enough to eat, and they mysteriously disappeared if they caused trouble. Although some of the evil nuns were super creepy, this part of the book wasn't completely out of the bounds of possibility. Religious institutions in this period were known to be rife with corruption, with some priests and nuns, supposed to be chaste, widely known to have had children and to live luxurious lifestyles.
Maxton and Andressa meet by chance, and his protective feelings are immediately stirred by this starving young woman who clearly needs help. Into this scenario, a wicked plot against King John is revealed, and somehow the nuns are in the thick of it. Maxton and his compatriot knights are called on to help find the plotters, and so the story evolves.
The story is pretty light on romance until near the end. I didn't mind that, as the plotting and spying were quite entertaining and kept me reading. It felt like a slow-burn romance, (even though clearly it wasn't, LOL) because there was so little actual romance till quite late in the book.
I didn't really like
The setting of the book and the general behaviour of the characters did have a convincing enough medieval feel. There were a couple of modernisms, such as 'OK" or "bumrush', but I just glided past these. Overall it was a reasonably enjoyable book, but I would just have liked to be more drawn in by the characters to feel more deeply involved in their story. At this point, I don't plan to read the sequels to this book, but who knows? I might one day if the mood strikes.
This is a tale of cruelty and murderous plots. Someone is going to murder King John and time is running out! Sir Maxton de Loxbeare and his friends Kress and Achilles are tasked with killing the assassin and protecting the king, but Maxton is not sure where to begin. But a chance meeting with a dirty but beautiful Pledge from a nearby Convent, might just be his key to the locked door. Sir Maxton is a huge, dark, broody and handsome seasoned killer, who we first meet in The Lord of Winter. He is the leader of the Unholy Trinity, but has lost his way after being recently imprisoned. Lady Andressa du Bose is a half starved, beautiful, brave and intelligent heiress, who has been robbed of her inheritance. Together, they can be each others salvation, together they can foil this deadly plot. From the moment this book starts, it has twists and turns in it, and as usual, Kathryn Le Veque explains clearly the history and politics surrounding this story, so that it becomes an integral part of this emotionally charged love story. There are lots of wonderful characters, Sir Achilles de Dere, Sir Kress de Rhydian, Sir Gart Forbes, the de Lara brothers, Bric MacRohan, Dashiel Du Reims and the camaraderie that they have for each other, adds another dimension to this wonderful romantic tale. This is a book of personal awakening and realization, that one can have something different and that life isn't just about service to one's king and country. I absolutely loved this book and certainly Lady Andressa makes for a wonderful heroine, and Sir Maxton does not disappoint as the gentle, but deadly knight. I am looking forward to reading more about the three who make up The Unholy Trinity.
Another night's sleep lost to "LeVeque Syndrome"...
That's the only problem I have in reading this author's books--my bedtime keeps getting pushed back later and later. The Unholy Hand is no exception.
More of a true historical fiction than a romance, this story shows us what it might have been like (actually probably really WAS like) back in a time when the Holy Roman Empire took advantage of its power, and not in a good way. The Executioner Knights are killers for hire, and have already performed more than their share of nasty, undercover slaughters. When the Pope tries to hire them to kill the King of England--their country--they refuse and end up in prison. Sir William Marshal (who really was a great knight in history) rescues them to intercept the killer(s). They are looking for a man or men. Who knew that when one of the Executioner Knights, Maxton, stumbles upon a starving pledge from a local convent, surprising clues surface along with feelings within the "heartless" knight he doesn't know how to deal with.
This is not your usual historical romance. If you're looking for lots of steamy sex scenes, you will be disappointed--unless like me, you're interested more in the story than the sex. There's just enough, with a slow burn romance developing between two unlikely "sinners." What I particularly like was how the author shows us, very clearly, the difference between a sex scene and a love scene. There is, most definitely, a difference.
LeVeque addresses many big issues here, good vs. evil, questions of loyalty and faith, knightly duty vs. true honor. It is, as always, eloquently written with larger than life characters and a fast-paced plot. Loved it. Keep it up, Kathryn! Who needs sleep anyway?
“Let me take care of you…let us find a corner of this world where two sinners can find happiness with each other.”
There is a plot brewing to assassinate the newly crowned King John. William Marshal takes the word of a trusted knight and hires what is known as The Unholy Trinity—The Executioner Knights. These three knights are united in one cause—to do what needs done for King and England without question or conscience. Sir Maxton of Loxbeare is the leader of this crew, and when his path crosses that of a frightened and hungry pledge from a local convent, it’s as if fate has put her in his path.
Lady Andressa du Bose was once an heiress to an impressive estate, but when she finds herself orphaned and alone, she is cast aside by her greedy aunt to die within the confines of a convent with a somewhat sinister reputation. Starved beyond reason, Andressa is caught stealing bread, but is rescued by a devilishly handsome knight, who shows her a kindness she had long forgotten existed.
As the plot against the King continues to weave around circumstances associated with Andressa, Maxton finds himself torn between being obedient to his liege and winning the affections of the lady. The years of Maxton’s sins are beginning to weigh heavy upon his heart, and he sees in the eyes of Andressa a hope of redemption…and perhaps love.
Kathryn Le Veque is a master storyteller when it comes to medieval romance. Highly recommend and look forward to reading more adventures of the Executioner Knights!
Maxton is a knight with a dark reputation. He lives to fight, has no fear of death, and no problem being its harbinger. Andressa is a young woman, pledged to an abbey as a result of the death of her parents and greedy relatives. While out foraging for food, because she is so very hungry, Andressa is thrown into the path of Maxton who is on a mission of his own. Not one to care much for the misfortune of others, Maxton is oddly struck by Andressa’s plight and takes it upon himself to feed her and assist her. It is through his actions the two are entertwined in a series of events and intrigue that could change the history of England. It is the balance of good and evil, one often disguised as another, as well as the possibility of redemption that compels both on their paths. That conflict and the growing attraction the two, a dark knight and waifish pledge, cannot deny, cause each to make choices that surprise even themselves. Is it fate that put them together or the hand of God? Absolutely fabulous story! This is one I couldn’t put down from start to finish. It has an addictive plot that draws one in, with wonderful characters, rich descriptions, and moments of humor and romance to top it all off. This is the first in a group of stories of the “executioner knights”, and I am already anticipating the next. I highly recommend it!
William Marshal needs specialize unit of men known as the Executioner Knights to play all the dirty games in the cat mouse murder mystery to save a king. Sir Maxton of Loxbeare is the leader of this unholy band of cutthroats and William tasks him with protecting the king’s life and finding the assassins and stopping them. Lady Andressa du Bose was a great heiress whose aunt cheated out of her inheritance by being a conniving witch so she has spent the last few years serving in the convent she was essentially sold to. Maxton and Andressa meet by chance when she attempts to steal some bread to eat in the small town near the abbey. They are mutually attracted to each other and Andressa sees a whole new world she would love to be part of. Unknowingly she has the key to helping Maxton and the Executioner Knight to defend the king and find the assassins before it’s too late. I loved this sweet story of the big handsome masculine knight and the sweet innocent Andressa, but it become clear they have choices to make. Does Maxton betray his king or the lady he’s come to love, and can she trust him with the abbey’s deep dark secrets. Absolutely great book I’m loving the Executioner Knights series and I cannot wait for the next book!!! This my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.
