A spectacular volume, as usual! The King was amazing, Sariphi was amazing, Amit was SO fucking amazing, and Sariphi is finally acting as the Queen's Consort! I love seeing Sariphi and Leonhart together, I'm so glad Sariphi has figured out that she wants to stay by his side as long as she can. Leonhart being there for her after the banquet scene was great as well and that along with Bennu's speech to Sariphi reinforces the idea that Sariphi often needs others to remind her to lean on them for support, something she rarely does out of consideration for others as well as something she never had in the human world.

While I would like to address the attempted suicide scene in the last chapter, I'm not a psychiatrist nor an expert on children, thus anything I say could be inaccurate and potentially cause trouble. All I will say is that I think it was handled well, made sense in the context of the situation, and hope that it wasn’t triggering for other people.

I'm loving where the story is going right now and I enjoy reading each new installment of this series. It's hands down one of my favorite romance series and hope that it continues to get better.

This series consistently does a great job of gently, but still stingingly, pointing out the ugliness of racism and prejudice.

Not going to lie, the last part of this volume — the part with Tetra, the cat princess — absolutely ripped my heart out. I must have re-read that part about seven times. Tetra is initially presented as your typical royal brat (although there are hints beforehand that there's something going on with her). However, it's soon revealed (in an utterly heart-wrenching outburst from her) why she's acting this way.

And despite the awfulness of what Tetra's gone through because of the actions of her mother, Calra, Calra herself isn't presented as an awful mother. She's presented as a person who has also been pushed to the breaking point, just in a different way; she loves her daughter desperately but more and more finds she doesn't know how to reach Tetra, not realizing that she's the one pushing Tetra away.

The villain here is the society they live in that pressures them into specific roles, not either of them. As painful as it is to witness, it's honestly fantastic writing. It would have been so easy to vilify Calra, but Yu Tomofuji did not take the easy way out.

Also, the symbolism of

Tetra's father apologizes to Leonhart for the "shameful display" of his daughter (who, remember, just ). Leo further cements my love for his character by very pointedly cutting right to the heart of the matter:

Does the face of that princess truly appear shameful to you? We cannot speak to the circumstances of your family and your children. But if the plaintive weeping that reached our ears reached you as well... we should think you have more important matters to attend to than apologizing to us. You may be the monarch of a nation, but you are also a father.

Also: I've thought this for a while, but I'm going to state it plainly: I feel that Sariphi is calculating, to some degree, but in an entirely positive way. I do not believe for an instant that she "forgot" Tetra's (clearly false) promise to put a good word in with Calra on Sariphi's behalf — Sariphi just didn't care about that. Sariphi is generally very good at reading people, and Tetra was in pain. I feel that her "playing" with Tetra was nothing but calculating, but I don't mean that in a negative sense. Sariphi was trying to give Tetra the attention and comfort that the princess so clearly craves, but Sariphi knew that she couldn't do it on her terms. She had to do it on Tetra's, because Tetra would never accept it otherwise.

Sariphi is a wonderful example of a character using the ability to read and, technically, manipulate people in a good way. She will do whatever she can to make those around her understand that they're better than they think they are, even if she has to basically trick them into thinking it was their idea all along.

Princess Amit is, as always, the most precious romantic ever.

tl;dr I love everyone in this freaking manga, please give me the next volume.

In Summary

Sariphi’s trials come to an end! Well, not really. She attains the role of acting queen consort, but there’s no security in the position whatsoever. As such, even though her new title supposedly means that she and Leo can face the challenges of the crown together, the story still continues with the theme of Sariphi having to convince beastkind that humans aren’t awful.

The Review

Volume 6 begins with the conclusion of the consecration arc. Surprisingly, although the judge Set injected an insidious air right before the arc’s climax, he doesn’t appear at all during Leo’s consecration speech or the falling action. Even so, Set left enough of an impression that he’s likely to cause problems in the future. As for Leo and Sariphi, an unexpected outcome results from the incident: Anubis appoints Sari as acting queen consort.

It seems like a big win for Sari, but when Anubis lays out the conditions of the position, the concession merely sounds like a continuation of her queen trials only with higher stakes. So even though she now has a title, her newfound standing grants her no security. Thus, her fight for acceptance in the beast realm continues.

The narrative then takes a single-chapter detour to focus on another couple. Although Princess Amit’s feelings for the dashing Jormungand continues to be one-sided, her maidenly fluster is plenty entertaining as she waffles over whether to wish him well on his next military assignment. And as always, her toothy looks provide a humorous contrast to her blushing personality.

Then it’s back to Leo and Sari as they head to Ozmargo’s protectorate, the nation of Sarbul, for Sari’s first official duty as acting queen consort. The decision to instate her has not been a popular one, and Sari must confront the prejudices of the population at large. Leo’s authority keeps the behavior of adult beastfolk in check, but that restraint doesn’t extend to children.

Whereas Sari had to win over a battle-hardened geezer a couple volumes ago, now she must deal with a bratty kid. Princess Tetra abounds with smart remarks, which is to be expected. However, her threat to make a suicidal leap is not, and the parallels drawn between Queen Calra and Sari’s substitute mother feel forced.

Extras include embedded author’s notes about the characters and the bonus manga, “The Beast Princess and the Regular Princess.”

The trials are over. Now comes the real challenges.

The Grand Consecration is nigh as the bells begin to ring but with the king only recently being stuck in his human form until recently he has no time to adorn the ceremonial armor for the event. With some quick thinking and an inspiring speech we and the trials at last and Sariphi is given the choice of taking on the position of Acting Queen Escort to see if she can really handle being the queen as news of her position echoes rumors across the beastkind kingdoms.

The first of her jobs as queen in training takes her and the king to the nation of Sarbul where Sariphi will have to overcome her own inadequacies to show those that would look down on her. This is another fine volume of Sariphi opening the hearts of those that find it hard to do so on their own.

In fact the only thing I didn't care for (and I hope this is not a common problem) is some of the full 2 page spreads like when the king arrives at the ceremony upon his holy beast or during his speech are arranged weirdly so there are gaps in the art between the pages making it look like there might be things missing on either side of the page. This is however a minor issue for me as I continue to love this series with fantastic characters, lovely art, and a simple story that still carries me ever onward as Sariphi does her best. :)

😭😭😭😭😭😭 What an emotional volume!!

Goodness, I absolutely adored this volume! I don't tend to like crying or getting super teary-eyed when reading, but this volume was such an exception! From that moving speech by the King, to a certain shared moment between two characters, to Sari's decision, and everything that follows, this felt like such a great emotional rollercoaster!

Though SARIIIIIIII!!! When she shares with the King her feelings at a certain dinner, my heart totally broke for her! I am thankful these two can be on this journey together and that neither of them are alone as it really lifted my heart for these two. The way they encourage and gently push each other to stand on their own feet but also support one another with everything they have when it comes to individual decisions is such a beautiful part of this series. Their love story is so rich and lovely that I don't think I'll ever get over this story simply because of that alone! <3

I LOVED Princess Amit having her moment! It was small compared to the rest of the story but I absolutely loved her! Glad she was on the cover and just how close she and Sari are!! It is such a wonderful friendship!

The last half was where I got most emotional because of the characters we meet. I won't say more, but Sari is a phenomenal character and more and more confirms to others that the King's eyes are indeed not clouded. The beasts around her are seeing just why he loves and cares for her because she also loves and cares for everyone around her. Truly, the way she shows that to this one character makes me teary-eyed even now because you can see and feel Sari's genuineness in every word, action, panel, and page. Honestly, this might be my favorite volume of the series so far just because of how moving Sari's impact was on this character.

Also, the Beast speaking truth there at the end! That man deserves some applause for that!

Another incredibly well-done volume!!

We learn that the next arc will be Sariphi trying to gain the approval of the common people and the various lords and kings. And I do like the idea that instead of just waiting in the castle like the past couple of arcs we are actually visiting the other lords by going to their lands and cities which is a nice change of pace as it means that their is greater risks for Sariphi as she no longer has the home field advantage that she had once.

Alright, correction, this is my favorite volume. This focuses on the idea of depression, and the long lasting effects of pressure, expectations, and disappointment. Honestly, I would recommend this volume to a lot of people. It's got a great strong story and conclusion, with fulfilling and heart-fuzzy results.

Sariphi's first duty as Acting Queen Consort requires her to win over a cat-woman who does not like humans.

This remains a sweet story that I enjoy every time I get to read one. Sariphi seems weak, but she's emotionally strong and refuses to give up trying to be worthy to be Queen. My favorite thing this volume was Amit's bravery and romance in offering a hand-made charm to Lord Jormungard.

More of a 3.5 star rating;
I really liked that in this volume we got to see a bit of how Sariphi’s trauma from her “parents” has effected her in her current duties. (Or is it duty since only one thing happened in this volume?) I also found Princess Tetra both fascinating and a bit heartbreaking to learn about, but I love how she interacted with Sariphi.

Why must children be so stupid! Obviously, it’s a plot device, but that little girl almost made me throw my tablet! I was legit reading as fast as I could to know the outcome! Argh! Now, I’m wide awake….

This book went a little deeper, but that just meant it hit a little harder. The characters continue to grow and become closer, the plot literally getting juicier by the page. Wonderful wonderful adaption of beauty and the beast. Can’t wait for the next installment.
