Sorry, this series just isn’t for me. I mean, literally nothing happened! We wandered around for a bit, woke up a bunch of people who I can’t remember any of their names because there are too many and they all sound alike, and then there’s a wedding the end.

And we mostly follow either new people or the insufferable Robin who I HATE because she’s so rude and mean, not to mention we now have two Robins in the all amazing, grumpy Shira! I mean, she has some good reasons for being so but come on, girl, you could at least try a little harder then you actually do to, you know, BE NICE. But I guess that’s too much to ask for from these types of “strong females.” 🙄

The only thing I liked was the magical thyme which increases the time in your day when used. Um, yes please I want some of that! Can you believe how handy that would be in getting things done throughout the day? Very creative idea! I only wish it was real, lol!

I hear the third book is actually the start of the upward rise of this series, but I’m honestly not interested and am going to stop here and pick up other books by this author instead (her Jane Austen Fairy Tale series is particularly good if you’re looking for other options as well 😉).

‼️Content‼️

Violence: fighting with weapons (not detailed); injuries and blood (not detailed)

Sexual: a kiss (not detailed)

Other: magic; fairy godmothers; in the past several characters were cursed; fairy godmother gifts; grief over lost loved ones

This was an amazing novel! The first book was enjoyable but not quite believable and I wasn't quite sure about the writing style. This one blew book one away! The writing style worked really well for the story, and while it may seem a little odd that there aren't any villains, I liked that this was a fantasy story where the conflict was mostly internal conflict. I loved the weirdness and randomness and fairy tale elements- they made the book so fun! I also adored the repercussions of Robin and Eric's relationship. It was the greatest. thing. ever. XD And the way all the characters were connected... I also thought that the reactions of the characters who were woken up were very realistic, and my heart ached with Shira and Madeliene. I really enjoyed the entire book and can't wait to get my hands on the next one!

Age Appropriate For: 10 and up for very mild romance
Best for Ages: 10 - 18

I was not feeling well and was scrolling through my Kindle, looking for something light and mindless to read. When I can upon a copy of Do You Take This Quest? that I bought a while back, I decided it was perfect.

Like the first book in the series, Sew, It's a Quest, it is a lighthearted mash-up of multiple fairytales. Robin and Robert still are the main characters, and Arthur is introduced into the mix, promising an Arthurian legend book for the third installment in the series.

Robin was my least favorite part of the book, being highly annoying and inconsistent. She is getting married, but gets mad at her twin brother for wanting to get married. She also seemed not to be very excited about her own wedding, making me feel sorry for her husband-to-be.

I love the Sleeping Beauty’s castle and the interactions between the people who have been asleep for a hundred years. It was so fun to see them interact with each other and the outside world.

If you are looking for a lighthearted story and an easy read, and like fairytales, I recommend this book.

Most of what I said was good in my review of the old version still stands: I still enjoy the new characters (moreso in this version than in the old one), I love all the references to fairy tales and folklore, and I like Kendra's rather unusual style of humor. Kendra's also improved the character development (so Robin grates a lot less than she did) and removed most of the instances of rough writing. She's also added bits and pieces here and there, including one Robin/Eric scene which is rather adorable.

I will say that this book still suffers from a serious lack of suspense. The author herself has stated that it is, and probably always will be, the weakest book in the series, and I would agree. However, if you enjoy Bookania, it's still worth reading, and it's necessary to get to My Kingdom for a Quest, which is pretty great.

The Good:
-New friends. I enjoyed meeting Madeline, Serendipity, Solomon, Shira, and many other new characters. Their gifts (whether intentional or mixed-up) made for quite a few amusing situations, and the characters themselves were mostly easy to like. Ok, fine, Shira wasn’t always so easy, but she was still fun to meet.
-Fairy Tale References. I didn’t get all of these, I’m afraid . . . but I got enough. Trying to pick out some of the more obscure ones was a great deal of fun.
-Humor. Whether in the form of puns, unexpected situations, or unusual takes on common idioms, Kendra always makes sure there’s plenty to smile at in her stories.

The Bad:
-Lack of Suspense. I don’t expect an edge-of-the-seat thriller when I pick up a Bookania novel. But Do You Take This Quest? seemed to lack any urgency at all. Except for a few bits here and there, I didn’t notice any overarching uncertainty, or any sections at all where I was truly worried for the characters.
-Rough Writing. I really wish this book had gone through another round of edits/proofing- my brain kept trying to go into editing mode whenever I noticed a missing word or a section of prose that could’ve been tightened up. It’s not as bad as in some books, but it’s still distracting.
-Robin. I really don't like Robin, ok? She grates on me. She’s very like Clara from Water Princess, Fire Prince . . . but without the book and movie references and without Andrew’s moderating influence. So, yeah. Thankfully, there was less of her in this book than there was in the first book.

Overall, Do You Take This Quest? isn’t an amazing book, but it’s still a fun, quick read.

Who knew that you could mix Sleeping Beauty, Robin Hood and Arthurian Legend into one book?

Well Kendra somehow does it and it work surprisingly well. Bookania is full of fairytales. They appear in big and small ways. Now this isn't a very deep or serious book. Puns abound. But it is a good cozy book that won't make you worry too much.

This is a bit of an inbetween book. There's lots going and you don't get bored, but there's no big over arching goal. There's a prince named Arthur who is looking for allies. There's another prince trying to get home for his wedding.

I love the way Kendra has brought all of the guests for the Sleeping Beauty's birthday party to life. They all have stories. Being asleep for a hundred years brings a lot of changes. Your kingdom could be gone, betrothals broken, speech and fashion changed. Or even worse you might have stained your hand by having it in blueberries for a hundred years. Among these characters, there is huge number of unusual or mixed fairy-godmother gifts. A lot of fascinating people.

And there are a few deeper spots. Mother-daughter relationships. A few questions about the nature and existence of God. And the sadness of the loss of a world you once knew.

Also there is a thread of mystery going through it. And some delightful snippets of someone's journal in between every chapter.

I recommend this for people who like light humourous fairy-tales.

(4.2)

This one doesn't have a much action, but it does have a lot of character growth that wasn't exactly subtle, but it wasn't in your face either. The romance is very clean, so anyone can read this.

I also really appreciated all the sibling power happening.

Recommended 10+ for mild violence and romance.

I read the first book in this series a while back, and just recently, I finally got to read this one!

Writing: 5/5

The writing was good. I mean, there wasn't anything spectacular about it, but there wasn't anything unspectacular about it, either. The writing wasn't the important part. The story and the characters were. I must admit, I was frustrated when it didn't really go from Robin's point of view much in the book. But doing the beginning parts with Madeleine's POV was probably the best way it could be done while making sense.

Setting: 5/5

Bookania is a very...interesting place. It's certainly a very unique fantasy world, and Kendra has made it and the fairy tales all her own. It seems a very light-hearted world, especially when compared to Ilyon. Kendra has done very well in world-building. It's strange how if someone resembles someone else, they look almost exactly alike each other. And there's a ridiculous amount of twins. But that's all part of the world of Bookania.

Plot: 5/5

Um...I'm not exactly sure what the plot was. But whatever it was, it was really good. It's confusing, but good.

Character Development: 5/5

I enjoyed having Robin and Eric and the others back, although I would have enjoyed more of Robert and Rosamond. I like the new characters, especially Arthur. I like Madeleine, but I honestly don't see why she's Kendra's favorite character ever (Sorry, Kendra). Madeleine is a little irritating, actually. But I still like her. I enjoy Robin and Eric together. They're just so funny. And Doranna...

Do You Take This Quest? is a good book and a great continuation of the series. Anyone who has read Sew, It's a Quest should read this book.
