It is book release day, and I received this gem in the mail today! Because I preordered, I was able to try out a couple of the recipes about a week ago. They were delicious, and I can’t wait to cook out of this book in the coming months.
The Cheesy Green Chile-Chicken Chimichangas were yummy. Using a low-carb tortilla saved me points. The chicken filling was flavorful, consisting of a mixture of orange and lime juice, garlic, cumin, and diced green chiles. The air fryer added crunch without the need to fry with oil.
The Tortilla Shrimp Tacos were also tasty. I have never used crushed tortilla chips to bread shrimp or anything else before, and it worked out really well! I enjoyed the cilantro-lime slaw. Dave opted for tater tots instead because he doesn’t like cilantro--but we both agreed that we would have these again.
Skinnytaste is my favorite recipe website and has been for the past several years. Gina Homolka does such a nice job of re-making meals in healthier ways. Her meals do not taste like diet food. She will be honest with where calories can be shaved and where not to skimp. For example, she values small additions of good quality cheeses and will massage a recipe until she figures out the bare minimum of whatever butter or olive oil is an absolute necessity to achieve a certain flavor. She offers WeightWatchers’ Smartpoints estimates for all of her recipes, which is a huge time saver for me. For her cookbooks, she posts the points on her website for each recipe.
Each recipe in this cookbook is designated as quick, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, Keto-friendly, or freezer-friendly. I am so excited for this newest cookbook because I love my air fryer. I use it almost daily for my morning hashbrowns, for a fast “bake” of frozen prepared foods like french fries, or to achieve a bit of crunch to any kind of breaded vegetable or piece of chicken. I love the prospect of digging into all these new ideas for how to use my air fryer even more. It is going to be a fun summer!
Recipe wise, the recipes are Gina's normal killer recipes that I can't wait to try each and every one of them. The drop from my normal 5 star ratings is as a result of one very irritating feature. At this time, I don't own an air fryer. I plan on grabbing one at some point, but don't have one right now. What I loved about Gina's other cookbook was that she had a little note on the recipe's page that gave oven directions. In this book, I literally have to go to an appendix in the back which is a pain in the butt. Not quite sure why it couldn't have been done the same as One and Done.
Once again Gina Homolka provides mom every where relief with wonderful Air Fryer foods that are as delicious as they are kid friendly! As a mom of two girls and a Weight Watcher member, it's hard to find that perfect mixture of diet and kid friendly meals. Gina has saved my life! As with most cookbooks, a small percentage of the recipes would appeal to my family. But I did find some good ones I'm anxious to try. Skinnytaste.com has been a great source of light recipes for me so this was a good way for me to collect some air fryer recipes.
It took a huge leap of faith to believe that an air fryer steak was worth the risk, but I did it and I won't go back. $15 bison ribeye in the air fryer was the best bison steak I ever had! So many great recipes so I can play more with my favorite new kitchen appliance, and feel like I'm doing myself a favor every time I use it.
Most of the recipes in this book are really simple and do not require super specific ingredients that I will never use in anything else. I have tried a couple of the dishes so far, and I am pleased with how things have turned out.

I suppose it was informational, but the “Keto”, “Vegetarian” and “Gluten Free” designations on each recipe was a teeny bit irritating. If I’m a vegetarian then I’d want a cookbook of nothing but vegetarian recipes. Likewise if I’m doing a Keto diet or if I have celiac disease. I thought it made the cookbook less rather than more useful.
I’m a hesitant new owner of an air fryer, and was worried I’d burn the house down. But these recipes are simple, with careful instructions (as well as recommendations based on brand/model of air fryer). Also, I love the gluten-free cooking options! I’m making two different recipes this week—fried shrimp tacos and fried eggplant. Ready and psyched to try this out now!
I’m new to cooking with an air fryer and well acquainted with Skinnytaste recipes on the internet. I borrowed this book from the library with high hopes. Sadly though I thought there would be a lot more recipes in general. And specifically I was hoping for more vegetable recipes.

I've had an air fryer for nearly a year and most of the time I'm fumbling for how to use it or how to properly cook things in it. The tiny booklet it came with has scant few recipes and the internet was less than helpful most of the time. I came across this cookbook in my local B&N. Flipping through the pages showed what appeared to me to be many flavor-filled dishes and actual recipes of many things I eat or would like to learn how to make. It was added to my book stack destined for the checkout. I have yet to try a recipe but I have several in mind and 3 tabbed to be made within the next week.
Pros: This book has directions of each recipe for the basket-style air fryer or toaster-oven style air fryer; cook times for conventional ovens (for people who don't have an air fryer); nutritional information for each recipe, and a label icon key for vegetarian, gluten-free, keto-friendly, freezer-friendly, dairy-free, and quick recipes. It not only has tips for air fryer success but also how to convert the temps & times of pre-packaged frozen foods to cook in the air fryer instead (I'm looking at you, frozen breaded chicken tenders.) There is an index at the back that lists not only the names of recipes but also indexed by ingredients.
Cons: Only one so far - I was looking this morning for a beets recipe but there are NO BEETS in this book. I will have to revert to conventional cookbooks and converting that temp/time to air fryer temp/time.
I’m going to call this my main summer cookbook for 2 reasons. 1) I live in Texas. It’s been over 100 degrees since May. My air conditioning seems to be running nonstop as it is, and the last thing I want to do is turn on my oven. My air fryer has been my saving grace and this cookbook has kept us eating full, healthy meals all summer. 2) The recipes are all incredibly easy and made with extremely fresh, easily obtained ingredients. I typically get home from work at 6:00 and can use this cookbook to whip up a filling, tasty meal in less than an hour. There is not one recipe that I’ve made from this cookbook that I wouldn’t make again. The spices and seasonings totally elevate most of the recipes (but beware because some are really salt heavy…proceed with caution). I enjoyed testing out the recipes so much from the book I had borrowed from the library that I ended up buying this book for myself. I’ve added my own notes to each page that I’ve made and it’s already become a tried & true favorite.
I've been trying to check out cookbooks from the library prior to making any purchases.
This gives me the opportunity to really look at the recipes ~ see if they are suitable for my family{I'm the lone female, btw}, do they contain hard to find ingredients{things the common grocery store doesn't carry or you'll only use a pinch in this recipe}, have me spending hours in the kitchen{not enough hours in the day for this}.
I've enjoyed using “The Skinnytaste Cookbook: Light on Calories, Big on Flavor” by Gina Homolka. So, naturally, I wanted to check into her other books.
As notated, this cookbook is geared toward the air fryer. The recipes didn't look complicated and pictures highlighted yummy looking dishes.
The only downfall... I'd prefer not using my air fryer/toaster oven to cook an entire meal.
Still, I'd recommend borrowing this from the library or picking it up if you want to expand your air fryer recipe collection.
I am a pretty experienced home cook who has not followed a recipe in decades (I may glance at a few online earlier in the day but then I just head to the kitchen and I love this book and actually follow these recipes and like them. My much younger sister turned me on to the Skinny Taste author and she is an avid fan. I make different recipes than my sister but I do love them.
Just this week I made air fry country-fried steak and the amazing sage gravy that goes with it, one of her quiche recipes (I made my dough from scratch though) and the air-fried falafel. All were good, I loved that gravy though...
Another Skinnytaste cookbook has been added to my go to collection of cookbooks. The recipes look amazing and I am eager to try all of them. I started flagging recipes I wanted to try immediately and ran to the store for missing ingredients. The Cheesy Green Chile-Chicken Chimichangas were delicious and I'm looking forward to trying the Cauliflower Rice Arancini and the Baked Stresel Apples soon. I love how all the recipes are made of wholesome foods and so flavorful while also being healthy.

Great selection of unusual recipes for the air fryer stoked to try out the everything bagel recipe and the mini berry pie recipe. There's a lot of breakfast recipes that are perfect for a weekend brunch, I do wish there were a few more vegetarian/vegan recipes. The nutritional information added at the end of each recipe was helpful and a nice addition for those of us who are watching calories, carbs, etc.

Several recipes look like dishes we’d try. As with all single method/appliance cookbooks (Instant Pot, air fryer, sheet pan), there are dishes that seem easier just to do with the traditional stovetop/oven method.
Includes color photo of most recipes. Ingredients are in an easy to read list. Instructions are in paragraph form rather than numbered list, but at least they’re short, well-spaced paragraphs.
Full of delicious looking and easy recipes; I cannot wait to get started trying them out. My only criticism is that unlike the previous cookbooks in this series there were fewer photos of the completed recipes. The photos are important for the presentation of the recipe, and I think it felt a tad rushed or less important than past books.

I have her other cookbooks and love her style of cooking. Can't wait to try some of the recipes in this cookbook. Love the fact that she uses fresh foods, recipes are easy to follow and nutrition facts are a great bonus!
