5 stars for inspiration! 2-3 stars for practicality
Although the events in this book are quite specific, example: “Aladdin Arabian Outdoor Movie Night”, you can take a lot of inspiration from each event and adapt to your own party.
I do wonder...if you have enough money to buy some of the obscure items they suggest for your party, maybe you could just hire a party planner and let them do everything?
There are some great recipes, fantastic decor ideas and fun party activities which make me want to throw a party! Overall, it’s a pretty magical book that inspires!
A beautiful guidebook to creating special, fun, and unforgettable Disney-themed events. Events vary from birthdays to bridal showers, baby showers, Valentine's Day, Halloween, and New Year's Eve parties to a Winter Wonderland Holiday brunch. Gorgeous spreads and photos with lovely Disney-inspired dishes, tutorials, and crafts.
How fun to plan your own themed party whether you're young or young at heart. This is event driven on how to have a themed birthday party, baby shower, bridal shower, outdoor movie, etc.
Take the theme, menu, decorations, etc. and use as inspiration for your type of party. Nice instructions from two weeks out to day off. Photos as a whole and step-by-step.
I loved this book! It’s part recipes, decor and games for a variety of different Disney-themed parties (i.e. a ‘Welcome to the Pride’ / Lion King baby shower). I liked that the themes for a lot of these were not in-your-face Disney. I don’t particularly throw a lot of parties but I will definitely be buying this book at some point, even if it just ends up being a sweet coffee table book. It’s absolutely not a 5* book for everyone but I really liked it.
Update: I bought it! You’re all invited to my Arabian Nights outdoor movie party.
WOW! Amy Croushorn offers up 11 unique event ideas inspired by 10 of Disney's animated feature films and of course, Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The films featured are up to date and do showcase a wide array of styles, colors, décor, food and activities, as well as good seasonal opportunities for each. Each event shows you the menu suggested, the decorations, the activity, the time-line (from two weeks prior to the day of), as well as tidbits of trivia from each of the films mentioned. Cinderella kicks it off with an Elegant Blue and Silver New Year's Midnight Ball, complete with a bedazzled Glass Slipper centerpiece. The Lion King follows suit with an African wildlife themed baby shower. The food really shines here in the simple BUT effective Slimy but Satisfying Dirt Cups and Rafiki's Melon salad. Alice In Wonderland takes us to the Queen of Hearts' Valentine's Day themed garden tea party and croquet game, complete with sandwiches and all things RED rose shaped. You don't want it to be off with your head before you fall in love with this fun spring luncheon. Mickey and Minnie Mouse celebrate your birthday with iconic bowtie pasta and Corn Dogs that will have you singing the Hot Dog Dance. The Little Mermaid, just like Ariel's happy ending (Sorry spoiler), is an aquatic themed bridal shower. The food of this party are particularly notable for the crab-cake (shh! Don't tell Sebastian) Les Poisson inspired eggs-benedict dish and Sand dollar cookies. Aladdin takes us outside and into a whole new world as an outdoor movie showing. The spices featured in each of the dishes takes us right to Agrabah, while rugs and decorative pillows serve as the perfect place to park and watch either version of Aladdin's story. Princess Tiana will be so proud of you for hosting a Mardi Gras themed dinner party, complete with masks, her famous gumbo and beignets. Moana joins the fun as a Luau and a traditional summer Barbecue unite. Peter Pan proves there's a kid in all of us with his "Never growing up" Birthday party. My favorite nod to the story are the Second star to the right 2-layer cookies. The villains take over Halloween for a pumpkin-carving party, complete with villainous desserts and a smoking Ursula Cauldron. The last event is the Frozen-inspired Brunch with a DIY waffle bar, Anna's finished...Sandwiches (that's what I was gonna say) and melted "snowman" drinks.
This is truly a Disney party lover's Dream. If you can't go to one of the Theme Parks for a vacation, make it your own party. I will say that the parties are MOSTLY geared towards an adult fan audience and not children, predominantly for the cuisine, hidden humor that most adults will get and the beverages offered. The other great idea whirlpool that this book gives you is that you can take any of the films and translate (most of them) to another party style or holiday. You have the tools to be creative, the recipes are here and a love of the films. So make your own magic and make a dream come true!
Full disclosure before reading: I am a HUGE Disney fan (as are a lot of my close friends) and I LOVE to entertain (when there isn’t a pandemic). So my friends and I have already thrown some great parties with creative ideas and wonderful food already. Having said that...
To someone who is a fan of Disney with kids and a Cricut, this book is a godsend. I will say that for kids parties, a lot of these ideas are ideal: not too expensive, easy to pull off (with proper planning ahead) and a joy to be a guest at. My only problem was it seemed like a lot of the ideas relied heavily on fancy paper art (which is fantastic for fancy paper artists of which I am not). As for the recipes, I need to try them before I judge them, but I am used to my recipes being from scratch whereas many of these involve jazzing up pre-existing food (which I am sure to appreciate when I am a parent trying anything to save time and money to create magic for my family).
Overall—this book is PERFECT if you love Disney, have a family who loves Disney and a month to prepare for an event. I look forward to trying a few of these ideas once it is safe to do so again!
Just to be upfront about this. I am NOT fan Disney, Warner Bros. stole my heart decades ago. However, this recipe book caught my eye. As I am always looking for unusual cookbooks to entice my littles to cook and eat (they need to take at least one no thank you bite of whatever is served). Luckily, there are so many creative people creating amazing foods and cookbooks, I can get the littles interested in cooking, and eating (!) tasty and good for them foods! Disney never came to mind. Then I caught sight of this book. Disney? Cover was enticing, so I had to find a copy. Still not a fan, BUT this book is magical! So many wonderful treats! And the photos just make you want to make everything in the book! These treats would be good for kids or adults. Great ideas for themed parties, or anytime! My littles are going to have a field day!
This book is gorgeous!!! First of all, photography is amazing! Also, as an aspiring event planner who loves to entertain, these are all great ideas. The curators are very creative and detail oriented. I would recommend creating things that could be reused for more than one occasion. Also, a lot of the recipes are more food ideas as they feature simply, pre made ingredients. It makes it easier for those who want things done faster but I like to have full recipes. But that's totally fine I have my own. Over all, loved it!
My husband gave me this book as one of my Christmas presents, and I absolutely love it! We are both Disney enthusiasts and love to entertain. Surprisingly, the recipes and ideas in this book are really accessible! And the parties work for grownups. The author is from Auburn, Alabama, which was a fun discovery at the end of the book. I already see several ideas I want to try here.
Very pretty to look at. While the table decorations are a mix of expensive dishes and cheap plastic decorations, actually trying to replicate the table spreads as photographed could get fairly expensive if you don't already have a lot of this on hand. Good for inspiration, checked out from the library. Could substitute different recipes and decor to make it your own.
Beautifully illustrated and love the bits of trivia throughout the book. However, I just don't think I would use much of the information, recipes listed. I read this a few months ago, however, so maybe I forgot what I liked about the book.
This book has awesome ideas for those interested in parties with a Disney theme. This book has it all, decor, invitations, food, activities, everything. I could wrap my head around this.
A fun book all about hosting Disney themed parties. The food recipes are easy to follow and not overly complicated. It makes themed parties attainable without breaking the bank or your sanity. No pinterest fails to be had here.
